    Keep in mind, the people who want these devices want them *because* they do less! That way they can focus on their work and environment. And a slimmer form factor, faster pen response times and USB-C is everything I know people want out of a new reMarkable. But at $399 it's just pushing the limits of what it should cost, and if the final price tag with the Marker (which, just saying, should always be bundled), the Folio and express shipping is going to be $536 (not counting customs!), then they're just out of their minds.

      @@TheChameleon2008 I'm not the one buying these! There's people who want to have a physical limitation, and I even heard about studies that prove this is effective (because there's no notifications, there's no temptation to switch the features back on, and because greyscale displays aren't as stimulating/distracting as color ones). So you know, even if it's outrageous to you, let people spend their money on what they want. Or wait for reMarkable to become bankrupt.

      @@xerzy Yea, the problem is that you can find studies that proof whatever you want :) Its not hard to take control over your own device but it seem that lots of people dont know how to do so. Even most phones have a Do not disturb function :)
      I love the tablet but the price it making it hard to adapt for the average joe. Lets hope the price comes down and in the future we might see a more affordable one.
      I would have hoped that e-ink screen would come down in price and that normal stores would use them so that they dont have to adjust the prices al manually.

      @@TheChameleon2008 No, you can't find studies proving whatever you want, not at least without them being refuted (you can check this in places like PubMed) - I can't link atm because I'm not good at tracing them back, but I certainly have seen them.
      But then again, who cares what value it gives or not if the price is too high for you. And who cares if someone else is fine with the current price I guess - which I doubt many people are in a global recession, but whatever.

      The Remarkable is a gimmick for people who love toys. People who are interested in productivity will stick with a computer/laptop and use a real keyboard. People interested in graphic design or a do-everything tablet will use an iPad Pro. Writing with a pen is the slowest and stupidest way to take notes. I honestly can’t think of a single reason to write notes with a pen. Even apps like Notability are over-rated by people who just like the novelty of it.

      @@TheAquaClone Since it's physical inc particles located within the screen, it makes it feel and read like paper, in an authentic way. I agree this product is niche but I already have a mac and an iphone, I don't need more screens in my life. I love that you can see the screen clearly in the sun, and that you have to turn on a lamp at night to read. Also you don't get blasted with blue light. I see many pros here that a normal tablet just can't achieve. If you switch between pages in a notebook, it's not instantaneous, the same when you take out the eraser and erase. It's a physical act, and so the cons of this technology is acceptable for some.

    I've always been watching this product because of how freeing it must feel, and yet at the same time I have an iPad Pro which I get to use quite often but not what I thought I bought it for-writing down notes. I'm a heavy note-taker simply because writing things down helps my mind break down the thoughts as they go in; I'm quite a fast typist but there's just a disconnect with how fast the mind goes through your thoughts and typing out something-in the few sentences I've had in here so far I actually missed some words already because I *thought* I already wrote them down.
    I do wish they make a smaller version of this though, and just sell a single-purposed e-reader. I've owned a few kindles which I've either handed-down or sold, (primarily because I think the iPad or iPhone can fulfill my reading needs), but I'm actually looking to buy a Kindle again BUT their current designs are really holding me back. (The Oasis looks very good, but at that price, it's not really a value proposition I can agree with.)

      There are specific problems with the reMarkable that people have complained about in more objective reviews. The issue with writing on any tablet is the comfort and ease. In general, digital tablets are worse than paper. @@n3ff848 Just to name a few, you have: the Sony DPT, Ratta Supernote (A5/A6), Onyx Boox Max 3, and of course the reMarkable 2 here. All of these are e-ink.
      Although I didn't mention e-ink displays specifically, the iPad Pro has one of the best pen experiences in a general tablet. The Samsung Galaxy Tabs are pretty decent too if you install Samsung Notes.
      The biggest issue with the reMarkable 2 is that it is not a great e-book reader. As the review notes, the software is exactly the same as in the reMarkable 1. If your goal is to do all your reading as well as writing on a single tablet, then the reMarkable is not for you.
      And it is doubtful they'll fix it, seeing as all the issues like e-book reading is still present and have not been improved in the last 2 years, even with the new tablet.

  • @YashMewada
    @YashMewada 3 года назад +7

    The performance problem mentioned here ( in terms of responsiveness) - as the reviewer here says "Should" not be blamed on processor. That is by design how e-ink displays are supposed to work ( with slow response due to particles sticking to bottom of the screen when content is being displayed and then not-sticking when the content is not being displayed). For software - If they do more than they already do, it would have to become an iPad / Kindle competitor and not have its own category which might be bad for the company itself.

    • @ccchhhrrriiisss100
      @ccchhhrrriiisss100 3 года назад +2

      Great point. I think that the price point hurts the market though. While it is not as versatile as an iPad, it is priced in the iPad range. I think that this would be a turnoff for people who have $400 to plop down. The $400 price point for this etablet might actuall bait such individuals into purchasing an iPad or a similar tablet at or near the same price point. This was something that the e-Reader manufacturers learned the hard way.
      The first Kindle sold for $399. The Nook also sold for nearly $300. However, the iPad and other tablets weren't much more than that (and some were actually cheaper). So, the early e-reader devices priced themselves into competition with more versatile tablets. It led to entry-level tablet models for Amazon's Kindle and even the Nook.
      The Kindle is now $89 and the more powerful Kindle Paperwhite is now $129. They are in a different price class as tablets -- and they are selling well.

    • @YashMewada
      @YashMewada 3 года назад +1

      @@ccchhhrrriiisss100 I Totally agree, they are onto something great here with the tablet. It has been a great start and I have actually seen quite a bit of interest from people around the tech community. And hopefully they should be able to carve out a new piece of the market with a note-taking device category. I am not 100% familiar with the tech that goes into this but would definitely be a great win if the price came down to the kindle pricing, the point being , if Nook is able to do it ( can't really compare to kindle - since the owner's manufacturing scale and capacity is at a different level ) , Remarkable should be able to do it fairly quickly. In the case of such devices all that is to this is more about the pencil and the software than the display or hardware ( in terms of processor and chips) itself.

  • @FuNeRoCk

    i got mine 2 days ago and i absolutely love it
    i would not consider not beeing able to acces the internet or watcing movies a downside because the tablet will not distract you and thats huge for me might not be for others
    for the feeling- it feels waaay nicer than any other tablet because it provides friction in a similar way paper does, on other tablets with a glass display it slides too much
    in addition it provides several layout templates for writing notes for piano or guitar sheets, calligraphy structures weekplanner dayplanner checklists and layouts to scetch
    it is a very specific tool, but one that probably will replace any kind of noteblocks or planners i heve used before
    at the moment i mainly use it to write my dnd campaign with it and it helps to organize everything a lot, because i do not have to flip through a lot of pages to find the correct one, i can have zoom out and look at an overview of all them to find and select the correct one
    10/10 so far would recommend if you prefer writing than typing

      @Bhargav Venky Definitely. iPads with Apple Pen capacity
      are way more expensive.

      @@IStMl Base model iPad is $329 + Pencil will be $100. More expensive then the preorder price, but the retail price of the reMarkable i think is going to be 500 or something.

      @Bhargav Venky Of course I am aware if the higher price but I can also do a lot more with it. So I get a lot more value out of it for the higher price, hence the reason why I rather spend my money there. Try to smoke that!

    I click expecting to learn what this device is about and what it can do but instead he is telling me how it's faster than gen 1 which I never heard of ... Just call the video a comparison of remarkable 1 vs 2 !!

    And customers who ordered months and months ago wait and wait and wait...with paltry information from reMarkable and excessively delayed delivery dates which are changed inconsistently. Caveat emptor!

    As a classical musician, this is really appealing for reading, rehearsing, and performing music. However, the iPad app, ForScore, is so hard to get away from. The iPad also has a faster processor that can flip thru pages a lot quicker.

    I want this so much. Not feature packed so I can concentrate on tasks more. I too learn by taking notes and this will be great for my final varsity year because I always find myself distracted when using the ipad for note taking.

    I rather buy a Tab S6 Lite -oh wait - I have 1....heck a box of pencils and a box of paper are a better buy

    I thin that lack of media features is a great plus to this device since it avoids distractions. It's absolutely focused on note taking and I love it for that. If it was closer to 250-300, I'd consider it. At 350, it's a hard sell tbh.

    I am a teacher who has work STEM and schools with a one device rule. Three things to note about this. 1) The singular function of writing is so Important. People forget that paper and pencil are technology too. But I have seen many Apple devices and Chromebooks not allow this function at all outside of a text format. 2) I believe in multiple tech and devices low, mid, and high for education proposes. This device gives a good way to minimize paper and store large amounts of text while adding elements of mind mapping and annotation to the mix and eliminating the inattention that can be caused by onscreen distractions such as internet and applications. 3) The cost may seem prohibitive, but when you factor in its purpose, its usefulness and how well it does compared to other similar devices, it actually comes out on top. Again, citing Chromebooks and Ipads that really don't get used to their full potential anyway, or are limited in how they can be applied in schools or with device memory. Sometimes a devices intended purpose is better if it is bespoke over being a multi-use item. Remember its still only one screen. Smart boards are a thing of the past because they too were supposed to be multi use, but realistically they were still one device with one screen and good for one thing at a time.

    I have recently received my Remarkable 2 and I am not disappointed. In response to the comment of the price for a dedicated device or a device that does that and more, the ReMarkable was designed to be the upgrade to paper. It was successful.
    The reason a carpenter carries a tool box instead of a single multi tool is that a multi tool is not efficient. The dedicated tool for a task gives precision and enhances the carpenter's skill. Remarkable was designed to enhance your mind by eliminating distractions and promoting creativity and focus. The RM2 does that well. I still feel that my RM1 is a great tool, but find the RM2 hardware and software upgrades excellent and the next step to freeing my mind.
