- Fitting an EPH mid position valve head onto a Honeywell body after 2 brand new valves have failed instantly.
This was one of those days where everything was just so stressful and capped off with a 100 round trip AGAIN to change a valve head that was faulty, well enough was enough and I've swapped it to an EPH one.....take a look to see how
#plumbing #howto #stress - Хобби
The saga of the Honeywell Mid Position Valves finally gets sorted......
Well done mate. Like the idea of the adapter for Honeywell. Can you put those EPH heads on Drayton to?
It's because you care so much, that you get so stressed out. That's the way you think and your real world plumbing does that. Great honesty in your vblogs. Thanks
Thanks buddy….. appreciate that mate
Thanks a lot mate just changed a replacment head this made it so straight forward
👍🏼👍🏼
And as it's your mate you've got to make the trip! Oh I feel your pain and frustration.......Massive respect for keeping your cool and once again getting the Job Done!
Thanks Julie🙏🏼
A joy to watch your video once again great work 👍
Thanks as always mate
Genuine video Mark as you say real life plumbing
Thanks mate….. real life stress aswell🤣
I hate days like this, to see it happens to another plumber makes me feel a lot lot better.....Sorry you had a bad day thanks for sharing
Gotta take the rough with the smooth sometimes
Keep up the great videos learning loads drill bits for £6 10 were brilliant great advice 👍
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Real world plumbing at it's best mate, haf a similar day today, back at the same job with a fresh pair of eyes nd a clear head
Yep a bit of time away from the job works wonders
The rough with the smooth an all that 👍
Yep exactly
Agree with other comments that say your stressed because it shows how much you care which being honest seems to be a rare trait these days. Like Phill Collins says hey think twice it’s just another day for you in real world plumbing paradise. The amount of people who have said to me sure plumbings easy aye yeah of course it is. Thanks for the video great job.
Thanks mate…. Appreciate that 👍🏼👍🏼
Doesn't rain it pours mate. Real world plumbing 👍👍👍
Indeed it does
Real world plumbing 💪🏻
100% mate
Would also check the voltage, had a few valve issues lately with not enough voltage and they play up.👍
great video ive had a few of those Honeywell valves do that I use Drayton seem ok used for yrs but I am really interested in those valves especially if there is a Honeywell valve with a faulty head thanks Mark
Yep the EPH valves with the converter plate works a treat
All that sounds stressful mate, as you say it’s real world plumbing, you will get past it and move on.
I hope things are settling down for you now and stress levels are reducing???
Still was a great film for me as always, it is what it is!!!
If it’s any consolation, I’m having a crap week as well, but just keep going.
Take care, I hope the week improves, regards, Chris 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Chris….. yep we all get these type of days so just wanted to show how it is as you know 👍🏼👍🏼
I feel your pain mate!
Honestly mate……. It’s drained me
I’ve worked it out now!…………..as you’ve mentioned them loads recently, Honeywell is the new channel sponsor?!😂
Hahahaaaa a partnership with Bristan🤣
I feel your pain mate.
Eph are fantastic and do replacement actuators for Myson also.
Yer EPH are great and the rep has been on the phone all ready
Never heard of compatible heads. Always just dealt with honeywell.
Unfortunately honeywell valves are coming from alot of different countries where always said Canada years ago.
I've had a few of late and just says EU.
Wondering if the quality is dropping which could be the issues?
Anyway well done. Stress is a killer in our job. Only those who live it know it👎
so sorry had days like that, seem more often nowadays keep smiling
Thanks mate
Our installer fitted drayton valves as he mentioned loads of issues with honeywell.
Yep, don’t blame him at all
Chin up Mark you will be laughing about this one day.. happens to us all one way or another.. Great video as always
Indeed mate… thanks buddy
Great vid, need these types of vids, I changed a float valve on a back to the wall pan, nice easy job right, WRONG
The cistern to pan bolts broke off, the donut washer leaked and needed replacing and the flush unit needed changing after I put it back together 😡 bloody nightmare
It’s never that easy in the real world mate🙈🙈
Question where do you get your custom floor Matts from ?I’m in need of some cheers great vid 👍🏻
Google “stickers and that”….. they are spot on mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers fella 👍🏻
video was great mate. :) never going to fit Honeywell again that's for sure, if they can not make reliable valves it gives me no confidence in anything else they make so I'll give them a wide birth...
Don’t blame you mate, I will be doing the same👍🏼👍🏼
Hate these types of days ! Hate this saying even more .. ‘it is was it is’ .. but it is completely true !👍 just need to get head down and crack on 👍x
Yep,…. Just knuckle down and see it out👍🏼
Drayton every time for me
Yep anything but HoneyWell nowadays
I hope the next load of jobs go well for you mark as you don't need the aggravation. Looks like a bad batch of motors in them valves you got honeywell stuff is junk now I normally stick to salus and have never had any bother. Is that heating system been converted as normally a gravity system wouldn't have a 3 port on it and the pump would only operate if heating was called, hot water via gravity from the boiler on 28 primaries. Keep up the good work bud 👍
Yer it’s a pumped system, I just meant it had tanks in the roof but said gravity…. Stress of the day 🤣🙈🙈
I’ve changed so many few year old Honeywell 2 ports recently gone to Danfoss now
They are rubbish now the Honeywell ones
Few weeks back I had the same clicking noise from a Honeywell 3 port. What I found was when I took it off the valve it made this clicking as the motor was over shooting the arm pass the micro switches and would not return back unless I turned of heating and hot water off BUT when I put it on the valve it functioned fine. It’s been few weeks and still working. There must be something not right still as I’ve always fitted honeywells and not come across this till recently
Yer I think they are going downhill recently…. A lot of people are saying the same
If you take the heads off they often do that, over shoot and don't function as they should.
@ Gas Mark
I done a Honeywell mpv today and thought it was faulty because the gears were clicking. As soon as i mounted it back on the valve body it was perfect. The Canadian honeywells never did this. The Honeywell i had today was made in Hungary.
Eph are now my go to valves.
Take the good with the bad jobs mate. Keep the videos coming, every day is a school day for me.
Was it M1 J15 - 14 you missed? I’ve missed that a couple of times 😂😂 a few choice words on each occasion
Yep that was the one….. you know my pain 🤣🤣🙈
I once had a Honeywell causing trouble with a Worcester Greenstar Ri. It was giving out an odd voltage to the switch live, can’t remember what, but maybe something like 120V.
I replaced the complete valve for another Honeywell but the boiler still wasn’t liking it and the same low voltage.
Spent a lot of time looking for the fault. Checking electrics. Had eliminated it being the valve because I’d just fitted a new one. Just couldn’t figure it out. Was at the point where I started to renew all the electrics thinking that there might be damaged wires or something.
Fortunately I called Worcester and, thank goodness, he seemed to recognize the problem. He said the low voltage was a problem specific to Honeywell valves when used with a Worcester boiler. Following his advice I fitted a new valve - a Siemens - and it worked fine.
It was ‘one of those jobs’ if you know what I mean!
Fortunately it was on my Dad’s system, so not so annoying as it could have been.
Wanted to share, in case it helps anyone else. Love it that we can all help each other easier these days.
Happy plumbing!
Love hearing little stories like this…. Will help someone out👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Don’t apologise mate. You do some cracking videos. I mean this one wasn’t great but you can’t be amazing all the time can ya 😉
Well done as always Mr
Hahahaaa…… love it🤣🤣
Mate we only get stressed because we actually care about the job. If we ripped people off & never went to call backs the stress would go & the bank account would grow. I’ve had customers who shelled out good money to bad trades & never got the problem solved, then I’ve got to the job, solved the problem & charged a sensible amount . Might have earned less, but can sleep at night with a clear conscience . Good on you for sorting your mates place out, & always good to have decent supplier in your corner when products go bad!! Just need to learn how to use your satnav now & the world will be a better place! 😉
Indeed Tim, completely agree with all of that mate 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Real world plumbing
Indeed mate 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Honeywell Quality control has been shady of late. We've had new Honeywell actuators fail on install. They used to be bullet proof. By the way they usually jump back like that when not fitted to a valve body. The ones I looked at were switch and soldering issues on the valve pcb.
Apparently this was a dodgey batch of motors and now it’s all sorted…. Time will tell eh buddy👍🏼
So I see from the comments it's a Honeywell EvoHome fitted, Honeywell recommend going pumped to avoid issues (listed in the literature with the Evo). Also if it has a 3 port valve on it, shouldn't it already be fully pumped, if it was gravity hot water I'd expect a second set of F/R to the cylinder in 28mm. The issue with the clicking on the head is the arm has bumped over the micro switch so wants bending down, it's just a misalignment and it happens on the 2 ports as well.
Sorry it is pumped with tanks in the roof…. Not full gravity
@@MJTiffPlumbing I figured that's what you meant but being as you didn't put the controls in there's no guarantee it's wired correctly. Always prefer to wire my own controls using the Boiler manufacturers or Hive/Nest. Outside of the main ones it's very hit and miss to whether they're compatible or not what with Part P+ now.
Do you mean boiler plus?
Real world plumbing. A lot different from showing people how something's done on a nice clean bench with everything to hand !
Thanks mate…. Day to day mate 👍🏼👍🏼
Yeah the real world of plumbing
Love your videos mate. Glad you chose to wear gloves. I wouldn’t want to touch anyone else’s toilet 😂😂😂😂😂bet you see some real horrors!!
Thanks buddy…. Yep it’s never nice!!!!
I'm not a plumber but a competent diyer I have replaced 3 honeywell valves in 10 years as a engineer myself is it a case of unnecessarily messing about with design that does not need improving just go back to basics love the videos my goto for advice thank you
Thanks mate 🙏🏼🙏🏼
i use Molybdenum Wire to cut silicon sealant
Never heard of it
I think the hot water off wiring is incorrect, if the hive receiver is in gravity mode the light will be dark blue in the top corner.
Oohhhh…… this is very interesting, however this is a HoneyWell EvoHome system…
can you explain please buddy👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing y plan wiring requires hw off from the d/valve (grey wire), hw off from the programmer or hive etc (normally no.1 on the back plate) and hw satisfied from the cylinder stat.
If one of these is missing (usually from the programmer), in some cases you can get the “clicking” at the d valve head.
On older systems set to gravity on the programmer this isn’t an issue as there’s always power to the hw common when heating is required.
If you whip off the hive receiver (two pz1 screws underneath) the wiring should be neutral, live, hw off 1, nothing on 2, hw on 3, heating on 4.
If there no wire on 1, you can set hive to gravity mode.
Hope you seen that the orange and grey are different on Eph M valves ,
Are they???…. Seemed to be working fine???
You think you have had a bad day ? My thermos flask leaked today whilst I was fishing and ruined my sausage roll ! Honeywell used to be top quality back in my day, is it just the valve or have you had problems with other Honeywell kit ? Thanks for taking time to share your day .
Bloody thermos mate🙈🙈🙈
Just these valves…. At the moment 😮
The wireless stats and some clocks have screen issues. Gone are the days you fit controls and they are still working 20 years later. Unfortunately we may have improved technology but we have lowered build quality/ life cycles.
I feel your pain. Had a can of redbull develop a small leak in my waterproof hold all and did not notice it quickly. I now have some clothes and tools sticky and smelling sweet. Also got a catch on my rolling toolbox snap off at the start of a 500 mile journey with 4 trains from Isle of Sky to london. Currently holding it all together with large cable ties and electrical tape. Keep up the good work Mark
A quick question for you pal. Which do you are the best boilers. I was told Baxi and Vailant as it’s easy to fit replacement parts. Apparently Worcester Bosch are a nightmare. Interested in your opinion.
I’ve heard good and bad on most boilers, Baxi and Vailient seem to do well at the moment to be honest
@@MJTiffPlumbing cheers pal 👍🏽
Baxi all day, i fit Worcester for local authority work, they are shite
Ideal baby, never had an issue with the 103 I’ve fitted
I’ve started to come away from Honeywell zone valves almost have to buy an additional synchronous motor or buy a Drayton one for half the price and more reliable
Yep stay away… I use EPH now
Nite start using eph controls now
You should try finding some address off Oxford Street in London sat hav' at not 100%
Bet that’s a nightmare
Hi Mark, where do you get those quick connectors from ?
Those were from plumbase, 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks
Hi mate , where do you get your quick connectors from ?
From Plumbase mate, think Screwfix stock them aswell
@@MJTiffPlumbing thanks buddy do you know what they call them ?
Can they ever cause air in the radiators if faulty ?
It just won’t get hot
Guess what I'm doing with the two shonky, throw a six to start, Honeywell actuators on my Central heating system this summer? Never realised there was a direct replacement that went on the same valve?
Yep, get the EPH ones and they go straight on👍🏼👍🏼
Aah mate it looks like maybe u were wanting to get off at J15 Northampton if u miss it it’s quite a distance to J14 MK. If u do that again can u just carry in to my house in MK please 😆🙏
Exactly what I did mate…… bloody nightmare🤣
It’s a real ball ache stuff like that but you don’t really have a choice but to do it. There should be some way to get recompense which I dare say you could fight Honeywell for but it wouldn’t be easy.
HoneyWell don’t want to know….. however EPH have been straight on the phone 👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing like I said on the Gram. There was a firm called stromm doing parts for Honeywell and the were great at first but then I was swapping loads of mid positions within days of install. Two ports were fine just the 3s.
Honeywell were bomb proof when the valves were made in Canada but now made in the EU they are crap, their programmers are even worse, I now use Drayton,
And yes days like that are real world plumbing it's good to see that we all have the same shit.
Thanks mate… yep real world day to day plumbing
Any else having problems with honeywell trv making noises at the min? Had several in last few weeks doing it. Multi directional ones but still noisey, fitted hundreds over last few years and no problems till some recently fitted ones. Alwsys used em as they are "the best" despite costing far more than cheap ones.
Seems HoneyWell really are going down the pan fast
If I remember rightly, something came out about Honeywell Trv’s not actually being bi directional as they stated they were!
Well they are still being sold as so?! We try put em all on flow side since having problems and seems to be stopping it but it was easier just to put em whatever side suited the rad best before.
@@peterdenson7031 they were being sold as so, old place I used to work had to change them all on a load of jobs and billed Honeywell for the labour to do so
@@alimack5489 A batch of incorrect ones went out as Bi-directional from what my local independent has said. What with the supply issues the last couple years and issues now getting materials it's starting to show up more and more that things aren't arriving at all or are incorrect.
Honeywell switched product production from Canada to Poland and that is when the problems started , it’s not only valves but dodgy programmer screens as well , I don’t fit any Honeywell products anymore as you carn’t trust it , shame really as it was top notch gear back in the day.... 👍
Yep used to be the market leader….. far from it now mate
What a pain in the arse that valve has been 🤘😎🤘
Mate honestly……… it’s done my head right in!!!!!!!
@@MJTiffPlumbing We all have the odd one Buddy sent to test our metal 🤘😎🤘
Had 2, honey well 2 port valves go within 2 weeks of each other in the same house. It’s annoying because I look like the arse going back to fix it twice
Exactly mate… it’s shocking from honeywell
Mark honey well used to be a great company but there trying to change the wheel and failing miserably
Surprised you didn't manually operate the valve before fitting the replacement head .
Have had some being very stiff .
I did buddy👍🏼👍🏼
You’d think being plumbers we were all loaded and had easy days just changing taps for £500 and going home to our mansions. It’s never the flipping case is it 😂.
That’s what people seem to think🙈
Should of got Clayton plumbing to do it for you Mark that's his neck of the woods aint it?
Yer Luke is Northampton….. but this was for my mate and to be honest I wouldn’t of wanted to dump this nightmare on him🙈
HAHAHA just a bad day i have a week like that mate we are in the wrong trade mate was driving past Jenners in edinburgh couple of year ago ,,,, a guy was doing the long reach window cleaning i seen it was a guy i used to go to school wth ( thick as mince ) anyhow he invited me to his house that night for a catch up i rocked up to the Grange in Edinburgh nothing under 3 mil
electronic gates couple of mercs in the drive he works from 5 till 11 then golf course .... and then he says so G how is life treating you ..............didnt know if to laugh or cry
🤣🤣🤣🤣
What a run of bad luck mark .Not what you need .
See how this one goes if it go faulty again might be a good idea to get the wiring checked out 😯😯
We all get those days not to often thou 😂
Had a mesage today to say it’s all working fine with the new head…… finally🙏🏼🙏🏼
So the sponsorship you recently signed and soon to announce isn’t Honeywell then? 😬
Thank god no 🤣🤣
Dave should have thrown in a free Bristan shower 😂😂😂
Hahahahaa
Nightmare mate but you get them days.
Indeed you do mate…. This was one of them
There’s a junction like that on m4. Be aware.
Thanks for the heads up
E,E,EPH 🤣🤣🤣
🤞🏼🤞🏼
The valve is phuqued which burns the motor out.
No it isn’t….. the motors on the Honeywell valves were a faulty batch so swapping the head to the ESP did the trick👍🏼👍🏼
@@MJTiffPlumbing what are the batch numbers?
This was about 18months ago…..
Who put the bog handle on the wall 😂😂😂🤪
🤣🤣
What a headache this issue has been .
So much of a headache mate
crazy shame you can't claim against Honeywell for the mileage and time. Especially with the price of diesel. Real world plumbing real world pain and frustration. Hope the rest of the week is better. Look after yourself Mark
Would love to be able to but HoneyWell have not even contacted me even after going to town on them on Instagram…… I will pop and see them at installer show in a few weeks😉😉
Never fit any 3 port valves
Just incase you do…. Don’t get HoneyWell🤣
Bound to be wired wrong. Surly there is no way 3 valves have been bad
The EPH one has been fine 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank god that job is over. Definitely stress ppl out when you have to do the job twice and even this job has you for third time.
Tell me about it mate….. I’m sure we will be back at some point🙈
Where are the valves made China..
Dunno but they are crap
Why didnt the baxi engineer change the head would have saver you a lot of time and stress nothing worse than running around and not much to show for your efforts
Because I had only changed it a week earlier so still covered by me….. EPH on there now🙏🏼🙏🏼
It’s not his job to change an external part under warranty for the boiler is it.
All had shit days, and it always seems when your working for mates they are the shitest
Hahahahaa so true
Hate honey well gronfos all the way are delta
Yep they are rubbish
