I cannot believe that a qualified electrician put that double socket in that cupboard resting on the bottom of the unit, especially underneath a sink, gives good sparks a bad name, anyway great content as usual.

I have a double socket under my sink. I moved it up to the top of the cupboard, at least it won't be sitting in water if something leaks. Electricity above water seems more logical to me anyway!

There’s no regs saying you cant put a socket there but as an electrician myself I tend to put mine 100mm off the bottom and drill a 75mm hole out directly underneath it to allow the plug tops to fit up through but also if there is a leak the water can exit down that hole and not come into contact with the outlet. It’s more about common sense than following regs tbh. There’s so many regs that are fine but in reality you wouldn’t ever do.

No issue having a socket under the sink, (aside from putting it so low, that’s a rookie mistake)
More chance of a socket getting wet above the worktop…. Unless there’s a leak, in which case, the leak is the issue 😂 but the rcd will do its job and turn the power off in (usually) about 28 milliseconds 😃
