  • A review of the Yeti Tundra 45 cooler, a great 32.9 litre cooler big enough for a long weekend camping trip while still being easy enough to move about

    Reading off both the imperial and metric measurements was very courteous of you. We learn both in grade school, however when you don’t use one every single day, can get a bit Rusty.

      We swept metric when I was in school funny with weights I think in metric and with other measurements its cm except with people its feet and inches

    One thing with that seal leaking is that if it leaks water it leaks air and the whole performance of a fridge is based on the vacuum of the seal. They could easily sort this by making the seal better. Personally I like the UTOKA coolers as they are nicely styled like yeti but come complete with all the things you need at no extra cost. Bottle openers, basket, chopping board, drain plug, pressure release valve etc. I think they’re actually better than yeti and similarly priced.

      I have done a fair bit of testing on coolers hot always flows to cold so a better seal slows the heat getting inside the bigger issue is radiant heat from the sun on the lid thicker is better the Pelican elite coolers have thick lids and great seals

    I’ve got 2 of these coolers. A 35 and a 45. Can’t say enough about how good they work for me and my girlfriend.

      If is was not for my very remote trips in the Australian outback I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on a second battery and solar panels. You can buy a lot of ice and it never has any electrical problems regards Mike

      @@ivangil5260 I found the 45 is just a little bigger than I need. And it’s quite heavy when full.

    They don’t make these completely airtight so they can work with dry ice. That’s why it leaks some water when tilted.

      I think Yeti is having a lend of us with the cold lock gasket, sure enough dry ice changes from a solid to a gas that's heavier than air so they don't recommend using it in car or tents. Potentially there is a possibility of exploding a perfectly sealed cooler but Yeti tundras have rubber catches so unlikely. More likely is the cooler would burp to vent gas 😂regards Mike

    Great video as always! I could be completely wrong but does the number 20, 35 or 45 refer to can capacity like with the soft coolers?

    • @kisbushcraftdownunder
      @kisbushcraftdownunder  Год назад +2

      No its just a model number it would be so much better if it was litres or quarts

    • @kisbushcraftdownunder
      @kisbushcraftdownunder  Год назад +1

      In Australia Yeti rates the Tundra 35 at 21 beers and the 45 at 28 Beer cans

    • @warwickbourke
      @warwickbourke Год назад

      Yes it definitely would. Oh that’s interesting. I would have thought they’d hold more than that with ice of course. I currently have 2 70lt Technic ice Signature Series and they’re just too big and heavy. The 45 looks to be a perfect size.

      @@warwickbourke cube party ice takes up a lot of volume 2 litre per kilogram if I going camping with a cooler I make some block ice at home then fill any space with bag ice. Ice about $4 a bag so a top up won’t break the bank 🏦

    • @warwickbourke
      @warwickbourke Год назад

      Yes that’s true. It quickly adds up. I’ve always used frozen 2lt milk bottles filled with water. I’ll give what you do a go. I find party ice around here barely frozen so I buy the day before and freeze it more at home. Probably unnecessary but it works for me.

    I just bought one. Are they as recognisable here in Perth as in other places? Like, how careful do I need to be about it getting nicked? I love leaving shit unattended lol

      I don't have a Haul but I do have a pelican 45 quart wheeled cooler in white and its a great cooler when I bought it I thought I would use it a lot more than I have it seems for me at least the smaller coolers get used the most

    • @kisbushcraftdownunder
      @kisbushcraftdownunder  3 года назад +1

      A small considerations is the tundra haul doesn't have a dry goods basket or a divider

    • @moviefan62
      @moviefan62 3 года назад +1

      @@kisbushcraftdownunder Yes but they make exact-fit aftermarket ones you can buy on Amazon. I know the Haul has wheels to make it easier to move around, but my concern is that at some point I'll have to lift in and out of my car and being 14 lbs heavier than the 45 to being with (empty) is a minor concern.
