The popularity of Overlanding and the amount of high value gear we tend to carry makes a attractive target of a unattended vehicle 🚗 This is how I try and manage the risk and reduce the rewards of breaking into a vehicle

Good tip 👍
Hard to find here in Europe,do they still make them?
He has lots of adds on eBay best to cont him directly he makes limited runs of products
@kisbushcraftdownunder thanks for the reply
Amazing setup 👌 love from the philippines 🇵🇭
It's great to have a stove that can use different fuel types regards Mike
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
It's a handy way to move fuels without getting a mouthful regards Mike
How do you like the DC3 so far? I got the DC4 and its been an awesome little stone to have. Great for trips out in the bush
They are both great pocket stones regards Mike
Super helpful, thank you. I actually recently found an opinel no 8, all rusty and wont open all the way. Since i dont have an opinel in my collection, i decided to restore this thing and needed to get the blade out to get to all the rust.
Glad it helped regards Mike
You can also put a thermal/survival tarp or another blanket (most people use wool) in to this combination to scale up or down the insulating capabilities. Also, do you think a hootchie would be able to make the below linked shelter and still have enough over hand to make a decent awning/rain protection? ruclips.net/video/XS_5SV8aAHM/видео.html&ab_channel=CorporalsCorner
The hootchie is bigger than the poncho so I can't see a problem
Thanks, Mike, for your review!
You are welcome regards Mike
Been wanting to put a one handed main blade on my Outrider for ages. You've convinced me to do it. I have a Sentinel as a donor. You really need to invest in a Dremel mate! 🙂
To do your blade swap you will just need two drill bits 2.5 mm and 3.0 mm good luck and enjoy the modded SAK
@@kisbushcraftdownunder Thanks! I just need to find the correct brass rods. I'm thinking it may be possible to swap the main blade just by extracting (and replacing) the pivot itself, rather than disassembling the whole knife?
@ no you can’t by the time you drill the collar that holds the scales on the pins will be to short unless you remove a layer of tools permanently
@@kisbushcraftdownunder Yes, I realize that. But its not what I asked. I'm thinking (have not tried it) that I can extract and swap out the main blade alone by just removing the pivot pin alone. And replacing that pin afterwards with a new one, made from 3mm brass rod of course, as you demonstrated. Seems possible.
@@JohannSwart_JWS I did it once on a 110 buck with a back lock but the force on the Victorinox pivot pin is significant the snap when you close the tools is back pressure and you have four to deal with and five Liners the liner lock is pushing left and right that can be eased by keeping the cap lifter and blade open . So I don't think 🤔its possible with two hands maybe with someone with a steel rod pushing each back spring back as you walk the brass rod through each tool layer
Knowledge is Power , thank you !
Love your work! We are the same generation. "Valuables" is so spelt, but who cares about spelling. I'd never leave my 4x4 specialist tool box behind, even in urban setting in NT.
WA is having the same issues since the government basically decriminalised property crime only fines and community service for theft cases. The only solution is to remove temptation and hope they go somewhere else in 2002 I did the Gibb river road with two smashed side windows ruined a huge trip.
Just ordered one
I think for the price its a great camping knife regards Mike

Is there a difference between the bottle colors?
No all the same sizes just different colours
I have 4 /100 Ah Duracell Agm Batteries on my wood work shop .They are wired in series .They are Pushing 14 Years Old. we have had about a week no sun and its Been 25 to 28 at night and I think I got one getting weak . I'm very pleased with their performance.
25 to 28 Fahrenheit? or Celsius yesterday it was 60 degrees Celsius in my car 🤪my deep cycle battery is on my bathroom floor the coolest place in my house. I only put it in the car when I need keeping them cool and charged is the secret to a long life
When I think of how many times I have used a fire steel, I feel both really happy to have seen this and so incredibly dumb that it never once occurred to me.
Literally brilliant
Great short! I would've never thought to do that
Nice tip that I'll probably never use😅
Wonderful tip!
that's actually really good advice to make a quick fire
That’s a pretty solid and simple piece of advice.
Safer and more efficient especially in the wind
Is it merino wool though? Seems not to be
Web site says 80% merino wool
The best technique is whichever one lights the fire
Its better to keep the sharp Knife still and move the fire steel you don't need a bad cut out Bush
Just be careful they are using cheaper thermal qualities
I just weighed my six year old one and a new one same weight and dimensions how are they less thermal ?
Absolute genius
In the first 40 seconds you notice the "Uhr" written on the box and it means "clock" in German.
Great to know regards Mike
Hi Mike, is there any maintenance on these?
None that I know off they don't have a catch bowl like some other pre cleaners the dust comes out the bottom
@kisbushcraftdownunder thanks, great channel.
Nothing like having a touch of coffee with your cream.
Nice !
Just bought a brand new one in Camp Green color at a thrift store for $6!
@@johnnyhorizon8368 great to get a win like that
May i know wich brand is that pot? Thanks, i also have my 1.5 liter eagle kettle been thinking wich pot will it fit in 😂
The kettle in this Video is the 750ml and the pot is a MSR titan pot the outer on from a three piece set. I have a 1.5 eagle kettle and sit that inside a steel deep sided frying pan made in Japan. If you look on eBay Bushcraft Takibi Deep Frying pan you can see them. Makes a great cooking set with the kettle
This is great idea !
That is brilliant !
A handy tip when Kitchen Knife is dull and its making hard work of carving
All good alternatives… but a 90 degree spine is also useful for scraping, not just ferro striking.
I was thinking 🤔about the spine on my Mora today living in a dry environment can't remember when I last scraped the outside to make tinder. I might make a thumb rest for the back of the blade for comfort
I specifically handline, I don't use rod&reel. I got a Yoyito a few years ago but only use it for trout & panfish nowadays cause it's actually cheaper, lighter, & simpler to just use Trilene XL straight off the spool, just take the sticker off. Possibly Trilene XT as well but I've never bought it, i think it's the same spool, the spool needs openings large enough for 3 fingers for me to use. But when I use the Yoyito & Trilene, I use my pinky, ring, & middle fingers in the reel, finger guns style basically. Yoyito I use 3 holes next to eachother for best comfort, & trilene I use 1 hole fitting those same three fingers in. Just a tip & an idea if you want more handreels & more line for only $8 a pop, with added comfort & slight weight savings.

I thought i would add add a little note for those who live or venture into the tropical zones. The use of the word northern and southern hemisphere in this video is a little miss leading. What should be used here is the suns declination, is the suns declination north or south of your location at the month of the year you are in. If you live in between the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn, then the sun travels over your head two times a year. When the sun is south of the equator, everyone north of the suns declination will have the sun in their south (use north Hemisphere in this video) and when the sun is North of the equator, anyone south of the suns declination will have the sun to their North (Use south Hemisphere in this video). You can download the suns declination tables on line, become familiar with the equinox times and the declinations of the sun through out the year in your location and locations you intend visiting
Hi Mike, Excellent video and great improvisation. I live in the UK and can get the pan stand for under £10 (20 AUD) so your price is just outrageous. It can slip off the 25 series, so yours is a step up, well done. I'm actually interested in making a heat diffuser to spread the heat load across the bottom of the pot/pan. I've got a couple of questions if you can find the time to answer. 1) Does your mesh reduce the hot spot and consequent deformation in the centre of the pan? 2) If it does a good job, what size mesh have you got? An easy way would be to count the number of holes over a 25mm length, I reckon you have 11 or 12, which makes it about a 2mm hole. Judging from the flame pattern at 13:39, I think you might have cracked it. I've got duossal same as you, with a NS billy, because they only do their billy-cans in NS or UL and I've got paranoid about that burning in the middle! Thanks for a really interesting post. Paul
I can just fit a 1/16 drill bit through the mesh we use it as a fly 🪰proof Security mesh I haven't had any issues with pan deformation on my Trangias but I am mostly boiling water and heating soups. Frying always messy out bush so try to avoid it. With me living outside the most remote City in Southern Hemisphere we don't get cheap deals on stuff and postage can be outrageous regards Mike
@@kisbushcraftdownunder Hello again Mike. Thanks for such a swift reply. I actually wrote to you last night but there was no evidence of it this morning and I realised later that I'd included a link, which must be a no-no with YT. Thanks for the advice over the hole size. Based on your info, I'm going for the next hole size down (1.3mm), because it uses the same wire gauge (0.5mm) as the 1/16" hole mesh, thus making it a bit stiffer, with a 52% open area. I love fry-ups and stews, especially in our cold winters, so I generally need longer burn times than you. I'll make 2 initially, 1 for each configuration of the pot clips. If they work I'll re-do them in a TIG-welded SS rod frame to avoid the rough edges of the mesh. If you need anything from the UK, drop me a line and I'll send it direct. I never got to see your part of Oz, the closest was Port Hedland, where the trains stretch to the horizon! Thanks again for your help Mike. Have a great New Year. Paul
Where did you buy the burner? Could you just make one yourself?
Be a easy DIY I got it as a Gift 🎁but they have a web site you can buy carbon felt online or you could use sand in a tin as well
How has the ground sheet held out after use? I see they are available again to buy.
Seems to be holding up fine mostly get used as a sit matt on day hikes when its wet
Mine failed after one year - a ring of pinholes around thebottom of the chimney on the inside.
Was it a stainless steel one or Aluminium?
@kisbushcraftdownunder Stainless. I was using it on top of a well fitting wood gasification stove. Together with the chimney of the Kelly, the effect was quite ... volcanic. I do wonder whether the resultant heat was too much for the welded joint at the bottom of the chimney.
@lawrencegt2229 As long as it had water in it shouldn't be a problem
I got 4.5 years out of my AGM, was hoping for 10.
So many variables depth of discharge the ambient temperature I think a AGM battery in a cool location and kept charged with a smart charger could last ten years but not in a hot car regards Mike
Thanks for the video. What heights are the stock breathers?
The front one is just below the fuel filter and the rear is on top of the diff housing they aren't really breathers but one way valves. Letting air out but not in when you cool a diff housing rapidly air/water/muck enters via the axle seals
So that's what the notch is for! Had this one for a while already and still couldn't get the purpose somehow
