Written by bassist and founding member Steve Harris, the song is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, which took place during the Crimean War. And inspired by Lord Tennyson’s poem of the same name.

    • @timothybarry6418
      @timothybarry6418 3 года назад +119

What Lisa did not say, is that The Charge of the Light Brigade was a cavalry charge, where cavalry was a horseback division of an army. The charge was lightly armed cavalry up against an artillery position where the artillery was on higher ground. The charge was ordered by the CO on the field after a communications SNAFU and was basically a suicidal run into crossed artillery fire.
At the time it was one of the British army's biggest millitary blunders!
At some point thereafter, some of the Russian canons were taken. Those canon are used to this day as the raw materials used to forge Victoria Cross medals. Those medals are the equivalent of the USA's Medal of Honor...

Although I grew up in the 70s and 80s, I wasn't into metal and I never went to see Iron Maiden, though they came to town many times. Some time after 2000 my young nephew - a metal head, and god only knows where he got that from - was ready for his first concert, and Iron Maiden were doing a retro tour at the time, so I got us some tickets. I was never a fan, but I'll admit it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Bruce is a consummate performer and one hell of a vocalist. When my nephew's younger brother was ready for HIS first concert, I made sure to wait until Iron Maiden came around again, and neither of us were sorry for it.

The Trooper was written about the infamous “Charge of the Light Brigade” incident that occurred during the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War in 1854.
Iron Maiden’s lead vocalist is Bruce Dickinson who truly is “one of the most interesting men in the world”. In addition to fronting ‘Maiden, he’s a licensed jumbo jet pilot (pilots the band’s tour jet himself), a world-class fencer, is building a full line of ‘Maiden branded beers, and has his own personal WWII tank collection.

The perfect song as an introduction to the mighty Maiden!! As an 11 year old, it was the first Iron Maiden song I heard and it blew my mind🤯!! I played it over and over again because it was such an adrenaline rush!! Then I realised Iron Maiden had lots of other amazing songs and boy was that fun!! Recommending songs is tricky as they have so many great ones.
Essential Maiden tunes for a newcomer :
    Hallowed Be Thy Name.
    Number Of The Beast.
    Run To The Hills.
    Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner.
    Blood Brothers.
    The Clairvoyant.
    Paschendale.
    Wasted Years.
    Infinite Dreams.
    2 Minutes to Midnight.
    Can I Play With Madness?
    The Evil That Men Do.
    Powerslave.
    Heaven Can Wait.
    Speed of Light.
    If Eternity Should Fail.
See I told you recommending the next song would be difficult as there are just so many GREAT ones!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Whatever you pick you will really enjoy going off how much fun you had with the Trooper!!
To maximise your enjoyment please watch live performances of the band as Maiden are one of the best live bands to have ever conquered the Earth!🌍
Now all you need is to be properly introduced to Eddie, but I will leave you find out about him another day. Just remember as long as you love Iron Maiden you have nothing to fear from Eddie. Everyone else on the other hand ......... (Evil Laugh!!!)🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My best friend from those days still reminds me of that time when a couple of guys (a drummer and guitar player) from my high school heard I was a player and they found out where I lived and showed up on our doorstep to introduce themselves in order to ask me to join a band they were putting together - he told me afterwards that he looked out my bedroom window and saw both of them rocking out in my front yard during this song, then they eventually rang the doorbell... Iron Maiden often has this "galloping" rhythm in their music which is mostly Steve Harris' bass since he's probably the best at it of his generation. The band is 40 years old so there's a lot to uncover. Like most bands that last this long, their best music was from their beginning in the 80s and 90s. @@matehavlik4559 First off, oaky I may slight off, but still hold that Bruce is not TINY ... that is my dad! lol
Trust me, I know what it takes to be tiny in the USA, ... I am 4'10" ... yes that's FOUR feet, ten inches. ;)
You want a tiny male, try 5 ft 3 in, that's my dad. And at that hieght, 3 more inches is a lot taller.
The average male in the USA USED to range from 5'5" to 5' 9" (this is from 1980s when I was a teen.) It took being 5'10" and above to be considered tall, and under 5'5" in to be considered short.
Either the height changed or better info since they've changed it since then when I googled it. In the US they now go by ethincity often. If you go to the Wikia, it shows by such .
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_human_height_by_country
Seems now instead of a range of height they give one number for the average. and in the US and UK it's 5ft 9in,
But I still hold that 5'6" is not short. It's the shorter side of the a range but would not be classed as undersized by drs. the way my dad was.

Interestingly... this is exactly what it sounds like in concert. Absurd amount of talent!

I can remember those comments about the 6 !!! young men with long hair sitting in the cellar, moving small figurins over a table (pen&paper roleplaying game, I think it was early D&D or something) and listening to evil metal music (Iron Maiden). Maiden was really influencing my youth and school time, it was awesome back in those days. That was in the early 80s... it`s centuries ago and still I love Maiden. Next year I will see them live again.
