  • Egg and tomato, is possibly one of the simplest meals from the English buffet breakfasts, but one of the most important. It has survived the evolvement into the full English breakfast, even if made in a slightly different way.
The recipe is from a cookery book from 1894, so I decided to just follow it exactly.

I know! I dont think its in all cases, but fresh eggs are good for two months if they are refrigerated after laying. (which they usually are). In the uk it's different as eggs are not normally refrigerated, but still should last a few weeks. The eggs I bought in the video only had 16 days left on them. :(

I bet they were good a lot longer tho. I love that eggs can last so long, i keep them at room temp in the uk, but i didn't think it would take so long to get to the shop@@Recipeengine

If fresh eggs are not washed , they don’t have to be refrigerated. Store eggs are washed so that removes something I can’t remember what so they have to be refrigerated (in the US )

@@cookingwithsherry Exactly, they're washed in the US - this damages the outer layer and increases the likelyhood of salmonella, which thrives in damp warm conditions, that's why they keep em in the fridge and we don't have to

@@protopigeon I bet they are. It was from a food program on ITV, but can't remember which. Was all about distribution. Im sure its not all of them that can take a month though. :)
