Having one for less than 2 months, absolutely hate it. Almost every lens needs calibration (no data on old 3rd party EF lenses, like sigma), viewfinder gives out soft images at full rez, color profiles and styles retention from raw only in DPP, noise is weird (I'm used to film grain and old dslrs). Picture quality at full resolution only acceptable with prime lenses stopped down a lot (makes the lenses unusable wide open). It's a do it all camera for hobbyists, not good for anything professional, heck even for microstock it would struggle.

Great video! I wish I could afford the 90D, I currently use my cell phone for video with a tele lens. I did get a decent sounding mic and some lighting. It may not be notch expensive gear by any means, but it does the job. For those who can afford it, I say get it. there are a few key things left out here that I will add in (and also why I really want this camera) On screen audio levels, mic, HDMI, headphone jack, remote control port, you dont have to remove from it from the tripod to remove the battery, you can change the gain on the preamp while recording as well as the headphone volume.
Yes it was bouncing all over the place! Haha, funny thing is you get the face and eye tracking pop up in 120fps, but as soon as you hit record it disappears... tricky ..😂
We were actually really close to buying a 90D when looking for an upgrade over our 80D. It's kind of a beast of a camera tbh but feels a bit like a new muscle car in an age of electric super cars if that makes sense?
Great to hear your opinion on this bro, definitely seems like a strange move by Canon - I know quite a few who are using it and really happy with it! But I know what you mean good analogy - like making a new awesome diesel (:
Currently torn between the 90D and the R6. Upgrading from a 77D. I mainly shot motorsport, wildlife and general family portraits (mainly our toddler!) 😂 Canon 100-400 L mark 2 pretty much lives on the camera.
Those are the same exact two cameras I’m torn between 😭😭the R6 I feel would Last me so long and prevent me from wanting to upgrade so I can focus on glass instead
If it wasn’t for mirrorless I’d say a brilliant camera, but don’t forget the better battery life a dslr provides. Ive just bought the 90d as my back up and am very impressed.
it is worth it but keeping in mind that good shots are heavily dependent on good glass. Also, an understanding on how to work that 32mp sensor to your advantage or you will get soft focus.
Even the 80D had the same soft focus problems regardless of glass while using the viewfinder, same problems now. Yeah pictures will look nice downscaled, but then what's the point of that many megapixels. It's a hobbyist camera and that's that.
I feel it's a very capable machine the extra pixels really do help. I started off on an SL3 which is also very nice. I am a hobbyist and don't feel the need to own something like the 5D or a 1D. This was a purchase I agonized over for a year before pulling the trigger. SOOO glad I purchased it. Get one while they are still available.
I find the 90D paired with Canon 17-55 2.8 I.S. is an excellent B Cam to EOS R... very steady combination on a gimbal. Probably the only downside is the lack of ALL-I in 1080p 60p - that would have been nice... I'm hoping for firmware update at some point. The 4K is definitely comparable (especially in 1.2x crop mode).
I've had my 70D for five years now and it's feeling a bit long in the tooth. Still a beast on a tripod, shooting raw. But I've been thinking about this upgrade. Still worth it? I think I could still make some decent coin with my 70D.
I just got mine shot 15 Videos today and am very happy actually made my 200d look like so bad sorry did not upgrade sooner Mirrorless not Sure but from my experience, one should get at least five years to ten like well would want to up Grade by then anyway what I am saying is EOS Mirror Camera lasts
Hi Kai, thanks for sharing this info! I’m a new canon 90 d owner and I’m actually just learning how to use it. For some reason while learning the settings my screen went black so I can’t see what’s on the display screen went shooting video or taking pictures. Has this happened to you before?
This has happened to me on my first camcorder - it was a faulty connection to the LCD - please get this checked out by the place where you bought it. If it’s still in warranty you should get it fixed or replaced for free.
@@KaiCreative thank you Kai. I purchased at Best Buy, but I do have 1 year canon warranty. The only thing is I purchased it right before I left the US to start my travel Vlog-so I’m on another continent and the warranty is only in the US. So I was told I’d have to pay :/ (and it is a brand new camera). Alternatively, I may just wait a few months until I go back and start my videos on my iPhone xr. Thanks again
I left Canon for Fujifilm and have missed Canon ever since. I only do photography, no video but like the chunky size.. is this too video focused a camera?
Just ordered mine today!! Finally got an upgrade from the Rebel T6. I hope the 90D isn't considered out of date so soon, I'm barely gonna get it as a step up!! Hopefully that wasn't a bad decision :(
Yeah you will like it. Just don't buy a ninja v with it.... it only does 30fps output through hdmi. When you use 120fps remember to use focus bracketing or use F4 and above that way your focal point will stay in focus. Also, your photo and video switch will have separate menu options depending on which one you are going to be working on.
@@vanessab.4765 the ninja v comment basically I was meaning if you wanted to do 24fps hdmi output to the ninja v specifically... it will only do 30fps which is alright for some. The ninja v is good. And you are welcome.
Shame about the single card slot and lack of IBIS, but it has too many other features to resist, IMO. Canon refurb price is better than most used and, other than packaging, nearly equivalent to new. How many lenses deliver resolution to challenge this sensor?
Great video very informative, the only thing I ask is “why are you waving the camera around with no cover over the sensor or lens on as it’s just sucking in the dust” sort of strange behavior for a filmmaker, other than that you did an incredible presentation!
I really hope that mirrorless cams wont really replace dslrs. I am a big fan of the optical viewfinders of the dslrs. And I dont mind the bulkiness of the bodies.
Great video, question if you don't mind me asking. I filmed a video on my Canon 90D on automatic, I also set it at 4K. When I open up Final Cut Pro X, it's asking me what " Resolution " I want to set the project at. 4K is the best that is out there for this camera, do you know the best Resolution and Rate numbers I should set Final Cut at ? The best one ???? The best best one ? If so, thanks.
It is a very capable camera giving a lot of options. No sure about the 2nd card slot hang ups. We only had 36 exposures per roll in the film days and it was very easy to spoil an entire roll of film.
The 90d is the high end version of the 5d mark iv. Great workhorse of a camera with many options that can be useful. The use of an SD card slot only is only a hindrance if you allow it to be and that’s a preference. Other than that I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you are doing sports or wildlife photography. Great video and in depth explanations. 👌🏽👏
I’m looking for an upgrade to my 70D for RUclips filmmaking, but for similar specs on a canon Mirrorless your talking EOS R5 for 4K, and 120fps in 1080, W which is a £3k body only! 😓
I was tempted by mirrorless when i heard about how light and small, but to be honest I was disappointed. The difference in size and weight was no where near enough to make it worthwhile for me. Plus the fact that I have hands like bunches of bananas doesn't help. The grip on the 90 is superb. My daughter however is slightly built with small hands and a natural fit for mirrorless. horses for courses and all that.
Hi, i have t7i and would like to upgrade to a higher resolution, i am looking for general use , portrait , wildlife , and landescape which i do like the most. And it will be better if i get a aps-c camera that I’ll be able to use my old lenses with it that’s why i want to know whether is 90D good and sharp for landescape or not. Because I’m on a tight budge. Thanks
I have the 90D and 5D Mk iv. Using the 5D Mk iv I get hardly any fails due to focus error, with the 90D I'm getting around 80% fails due to focus and poor image quality. The 90D is not a camera for beginners.
I’ve been using a T7i mainly for live music (low light) and wildlife shots/video and thinking about upgrading to 90D. Do you think I will see an improvement in performance? My biggest complaint with the T7 is having to push the ISO and dealing with grain to get a fast enough shutter. Thoughts? Thanks.
Isn’t an APS-C sensor cropped anyway? You had said there’s no crop on 4K however it’s not a full frame camera so .. not sure if I understand this correctly..
Yes it’s a crop frame camera already - so the focal length of the lens you attach is cropped in by a factor of 1.6x. Some canon cameras which offer 4K have an additional crop of 1.6 on the 4K (for example the canon m50 and SL3) meaning that those cameras have a total crop of 2.56x (1.6x1.6) when using 4K. So for example using a 15mm lens in 4K on the Canon m50 actually gives you an effective focal length of 15mmx2.56 = 38.4mm. 😅
@@KaiCreative thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I’m just having a difficult time finding a full frame camera without a crop factor when using video.. I already have a micro 4:3.. just want to try something different.
It is a struggle with Canon - a full frame with no crop in 4K is the canon R5, the next best thing is the R6 with a crop of 1.07x - everything else that is prosumer has a crop on it 😅
@@KaiCreative thank you so much 😊! So basically if you have a 35 mm focal length. You must times that by 1.6 for the 90d to get the actual focal length ? So to achieve a 35 mm focal length you have to have the lense at like 20 mm? Also is it worth investing in a DSLR when it seems like everything is transitioning to mirror less ?
Yes you got it on the focal length. Whether I’m not to invest in a DSLR is really up to you - nothing wrong at all with the tech - but the brands all seem to be going mirrorless. So the newer tech / functionality will be in those camera bodies - plus support will probably exist longer for the mirrorless series from the big brands.
Would like to choose between 90d and m6 mark 2. Im not sure which one to take mostly for photography not interested in making videos. I have 700d from 2014.
It’s great for on-the-go video and also photos, too. I’m more than satisfied with the sports photos performance. And it doesn’t break the bank. The upcoming R3 looks like it’ll be cool, but for those of use who want more honey for the money on a smaller budget, along with modern DSLR flexibility, this one is totally worth it.
Can I buy the canon 16-35mm 2.8 for 80d and will I have an ok wide angle because I need a wide angle lens for my 80d which is good in low light situations. Thanks
I have one. Incredible video - but my 8 year old fuji is superior in terms of photography. I was not impressed with the quality of the images, the weird auto exposure, the noise, ect. Also it's just blurry when you zoom in. Not a single sharp photo. Personally, I hate sharp images but it's nice when taking photos of animals. The 18 - 55 kit lens is the worst junk I ever used :/ 90d is ok with prime lenses. You have a lot of cheap options.
6 reasons to switch from Canon 90D to Sony A7III. I have owned and used the 90d for 2 years for both photos and video. 1. The canon 90d does not have a log profile, preventing colour grading and restricts creative freedom to stylize projects. 2. A 50mm is really 80mm, You have to x 1.6 crop factor per mm, which gets tedious. I would like a 50mm to act as a 50mm without maths. 3. Shallow DoF (Bokeh) is harder to achieve due to crop sensor size. F2.8 on 90d equals f4.48 on a fullframe camera due to sensor size. I love bokeh so it contributes to a switch. 4. 90d lacks actual In body stabilisation, it's stabilisation acts more like a digital zoom to crop out shakey edges. 5. Lowlight capabilities on the 90D are not great. It has 32.5 megapixels where this is good resolution on a small apsc sensor it introduces more noise. I have found the 90d introduces noise (grain) at ISO 1600. It becomes noticeable at 3200, displeasing at ISO 6400, and unusable for professional work at ISO 12800 (imo). For people who intend to work inside lowlight venues this may become challenging and decrease the quality you intend to produce. 6. Final thing, when in video mode the gridlines on 90d disappears once recording removing the rules of thirds guidelines. As a videographer this can get a little irritating. Apart from these factors the Canon 90D performs beautifully, for both photo and video with not one issue over 2 years. The quality is perfect and is a great tool to add value to your production. If you are not interested in color grading the log profiles should not be a deal breaker. Also if you have no worries of doing the maths of 1.6 crop factor to add to the mm, and the aperture this should be no problem. And also if DoF (Bokeh) is not everything to you you will be ok. Or you can look for a fast lens such as f1.4 to balance achieving a more shallow DoF. Lowlight capabilities may not bother you if you do not intend to film in challenging lighting situations.
Give it time, I suspect these will come down in price as more and more jump to mirrorless 👌 Although, you might be one of those people who goes mirrorless?
@@KaiCreative I'm planning on sticking with dslr's for a bit. As mirrorless cameras become more popular, dslr's and dslr lenses will flood the second hand market and become much cheaper than their mirrorless succesors.

@@ragheborfali3432 I hear you - 5fps for sports/action isn't great...which is also one of the reasons why I finally decided to upgrade and buy the 90d. Canon is speading the butter too thin on the bread. I want a dedicated camera, not a hybrid where loads of money has been spent on the video development that I have to pay for but will never use. A good video camera is a much better investment if video is your game most will still take good photographs.
Camera picture quality is bad at full rez even with canon EFS lenses, using the viewfinder everything comes out soft. Same problems the 80D had. Only acceptable sharpness comes from 50mm f1.4 primes stopped down to f4 and above. Shame, as it's a very promising camera loaded with features, but crippled.

Gotta say that video footage looked pretty clean! Nice looking 120fps! Just a shame you don't get the full on AF!
What on earth would manufacturers do if some people weren't so easily convinced that their perfect camera today is trash tomorrow?
Currently torn between the 90D and the R6. Upgrading from a 77D. I mainly shot motorsport, wildlife and general family portraits (mainly our toddler!) 😂
Canon 100-400 L mark 2 pretty much lives on the camera.
I’d probably get the adapter and the R6 if I was given this option
Those are the same exact two cameras I’m torn between 😭😭the R6 I feel would
Last me so long and prevent me from wanting to upgrade so I can focus on glass instead
If it wasn’t for mirrorless I’d say a brilliant camera, but don’t forget the better battery life a dslr provides. Ive just bought the 90d as my back up and am very impressed.
Killer 2 camera body combo: [FF + UWA] and [APS-C + Telephoto]. Helps when both are high on megapixels. That's where the Canon 90D comes in.
Great video....but now I'm confused between sony a6400 and 90d
It's 2022, Canon 90D vs. Canon RP.
is it worth the switch?
Picked mine up today! Thank you for the honest review, it definitely influenced me to pull the trigger on this great Camera!
How much did it cost
it is worth it but keeping in mind that good shots are heavily dependent on good glass.
Watching this a year after I bought my 90D. I absolutely love it!
Question: in your opinion what is the best lens for this camera if Im going for pro travel film videos
You can’t go wrong with the 24-70 f/2.8 canon 🤩
@@KaiCreative Apart form the price and lack of image stabilization. I'd probably go for the Tamron version.
I've had my 70D for five years now and it's feeling a bit long in the tooth. Still a beast on a tripod, shooting raw. But I've been thinking about this upgrade. Still worth it? I think I could still make some decent coin with my 70D.
If u love ur 70D, u'll come hard on a 90D.
I Love using this camera I have done my 1st Music Festival this year and managed to get some amazing shots
What lens or lenses did you use?
I ordered mine a couple of days ago, and it will be here next week!
So so amazing... loving your review
It’s my everyday camera. Love it. Easy workflow. N clog but cinestyle is pretty good
I left Canon for Fujifilm and have missed Canon ever since. I only do photography, no video but like the chunky size.. is this too video focused a camera?
Just ordered mine today!! Finally got an upgrade from the Rebel T6. I hope the 90D isn't considered out of date so soon, I'm barely gonna get it as a step up!! Hopefully that wasn't a bad decision :(
Don’t worry the 90D is a beast
Yeah you will like it. Just don't buy a ninja v with it.... it only does 30fps output through hdmi. When you use 120fps remember to use focus bracketing or use F4 and above that way your focal point will stay in focus. Also, your photo and video switch will have separate menu options depending on which one you are going to be working on.
@@PassionPainNDemonsStreetwear phew, thanks!
@@cedricjamesjr1 Thanks for the good info!
I have it and love it! Also, any tips for a beginner?
What are you looking to create?
Thank you for sharing, I'm going to me change my 6Dmark ii to 90D
Great video very informative, the only thing I ask is “why are you waving the camera around with no cover over the sensor or lens on as it’s just sucking in the dust” sort of strange behavior for a filmmaker, other than that you did an incredible presentation!
I really hope that mirrorless cams wont really replace dslrs. I am a big fan of the optical viewfinders of the dslrs. And I dont mind the bulkiness of the bodies.
What did you use to record this RUclips video? Did you use this camera?
Great question! I used the EOS-R in 4K with the 15-35mm RF 2.8 for the talking heads points - all the Broll of Emily is on the 90D
Why is the dual card an issue, is it that one would fill up and instead of replacing while shooting weddings etc?
Great question - more for professionals - writing to two cards simultaneously- backing up as they shoot 🙏
I have a 70d that I use for YT videos. Do you think it's worth the upgrade?
If you want more of that 120fps 😉😉
It is a very capable camera giving a lot of options. No sure about the 2nd card slot hang ups. We only had 36 exposures per roll in the film days and it was very easy to spoil an entire roll of film.
Nicely said. People really are spoiled aren’t they. Just fucking switch the card.
Reminder Set
Thanks for joining Bro!
Canon 90D is a beast - worry more about a good lens and the creativity & you are set for a good while
The 90d is the high end version of the 5d mark iv. Great workhorse of a camera with many options that can be useful. The use of an SD card slot only is only a hindrance if you allow it to be and that’s a preference. Other than that I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you are doing sports or wildlife photography. Great video and in depth explanations. 👌🏽👏
What canon camra worth buyimg to video and take photos of wedding and all occasions
Sold my 90D earlier this year upgrading to the A7iii
Thanks for sharing - interesting 🧐 what reasons did you have for the shift?
@@KaiCreative Needed to go Mirrorless+ needed a full frame Body 💯
I own the 90D and I LOVE it :)
Hello, how is the dynamic range? I Find it is awful on the 80 d. Great video, thank you!
Much better.
Great Thumbnail, great content and awesome looking camera 👍😊📸📸📸
Hi, i have t7i and would like to upgrade to a higher resolution, i am looking for general use ,
portrait , wildlife , and landescape which i do like the most. And it will be better if i get a aps-c camera that I’ll be able to use my old lenses with it that’s why i want to know whether is 90D good and sharp for landescape or not. Because I’m on a tight budge. Thanks
great video, I am glad I found it
I have the 90D and 5D Mk iv.
Thoughts? Thanks.
Do you use fast aperture lenses? That can help u alot instead of pushing iso to its limits
I like it but a 2 1/2 year old camera that has not dropped a dime, in price?
Would like to choose between 90d and m6 mark 2. Im not sure which one to take mostly for photography not interested in making videos. I have 700d from 2014.
I would go with the 90D
One day, I'm going to be happy that I started following this channel at its beginnings
Who should think of getting one.......Anyone with right amount of coin! that's who. Thanks for the review friend
Can I buy the canon 16-35mm 2.8 for 80d and will I have an ok wide angle because I need a wide angle lens for my 80d which is good in low light situations. Thanks
Excellent, thank you.
Is the Canon 90d good enough for Wedding/ Event photography?
Yeah I have heard from a couple people that it’s great for weddings.
I shot my last video with the Canon 90d it's my favorite camera 📷 too great 👍 video by the way...
Thank you for making this video! makes my life easier ... : )
The 90d can shoot the external flash in liveview mode?
Does it need a dedicated battery grip??
What gimbal is best for 90d
The 18 - 55 kit lens is the worst junk I ever used :/
90d is ok with prime lenses. You have a lot of cheap options.
Good to know.
Which is your fuji?
Same boat here, having the 90D and just cannot live with the soft focus issues, even the primes cannot be used wide open...
Great video kai!
Thank you 🙏
@@KaiCreative should I get the 90d from client work? Is it optimal quality?
@@KaiCreative for*
For client photos I’d say yes (only one card slot though) for video I’d say yes for 1080. If you want Clog or 4K then look at the R6/R5
B roll? Are you saying to buy an even more expensive camera for a roll?
1.2x Crop Mode is for increasing the Video quality
Wish I could get one. But my camera store had a waiting list. An have to put 200 down to be put on a waiting list

@@jonathanfilms408 not sure how to trust it isn't coming from a grey market. So I ended up getting a 2021 Canam 450 . Lol
Lowlight capabilities may not bother you if you do not intend to film in challenging lighting situations.
does it output 10bit like M6 II ???
I got 2 canon 80Ds cameras and I will
Get the 90D one day
thanks for being honest
Idk why I'm watching this, I'm using a 650D from like 2012...this is so out of my range
You are way ahead of me and so advanced !!! :-) - I'm still using my 450d from 2008 ... :-) :-) - and happy with the results I can get out of the old lady...She's still going strong. I am sure I have shot more than 200K photos with the cam by now. (BUT I have ordered the 90d, and it should arrive in a weeks time)... Happy shooting !! :-)
@@jensb3490 It is a great camera, but my problem is that I mostly shoot sports/action and the 5 fps isn't good enough and I have to take way too many shots when a camera like the 90D would've taken less
@@ragheborfali3432 I hear you - 5fps for sports/action isn't great...which is also one of the reasons why I finally decided to upgrade and buy the 90d. A 450d is even worse than your 650d :-) ...I haven't seen a decline in the price, at least not where I live, and I don't want 2nd hand, so buying it now seems to be as good as waiting till "tomorrow"....

@@KaiCreative oooo, what a flex

The question is.....how many people are worth a very good camera.....
swiss knife of cameras
Canon is speading the butter too thin on the bread. I want a dedicated camera, not a hybrid where loads of money has been spent on the video development that I have to pay for but will never use. A good video camera is a much better investment if video is your game most will still take good photographs.
Camera picture quality is bad at full rez even with canon EFS lenses, using the viewfinder everything comes out soft. Same problems the 80D had. Only acceptable sharpness comes from 50mm f1.4 primes stopped down to f4 and above. Shame, as it's a very promising camera loaded with features, but crippled.
The Canon 90D is way out of my budget.
👍
If someone doesn't care about there 90D
