Only Hickock45 could make a 21-minute video about a single shot survival rifle interesting to watch... I do wish it had a ejector instead of an extractor. That *ping!* sound and an empty case zipping over your shoulder is brilliant!
I have one they are available as pistols too and are a good little gun best 180 i spent on a 22 it feels solid and it may be ugly but i love mine even without any sights i still hit my target could fire from the hip it dont matter for me and i can reload one handed call me a bs(er) but i made a sling rod that attaches to the rail screw and i use that because sometimes it feels like something i want to make a belt buckle tap dispenser because my left hand fumbles too much reloading and ambidextrous shooting is a pain with small guns because im right eye dominant and if you try that right now it just no way man i wish they had more calibers i want mine in 9mm or 38 special even 223 222 224 etc it has songle shooting potential maybe an upscaled model haha
Loved the review but was amazed at all the comments from the self-professed "Gun Guys" that seemed completely impervious as to the sense behind this platform. I think it's an obvious contender for firearm of choice for many especially into the outdoor sport lifestyle i.e. serious camping and hiking such as those that live for the Appalachian Trail or Patagonia where it's a nice compact tool that provides some defense and survival options in an emergency and does so without a noticeable footprint. Especially for someone that is a hardcore hiker that realizes just a few ounces can be the difference in successfully completing a leg or not this is a solid option and with a fairly decent build quality and very fair price point I Chiappa found a contender.
I love my little badger. .22 magnum, its nice to be able to have one box of ammo and plink through it slowly at the range. More reliable than just about any 22 semiauto
I got one in .22LR when they first came out for $150.00, just because I like to plink and I like firearms that are...well...different or unusual! This really fit the bill...fun, cheap to shoot, easy to operate, very light weight, good sights, and that trigger...smooth as butter! Before I ever dropped the hammer, my initial thought was that being such a cheap rifle, the trigger would be horrific! Man...was I wrong! Like Hickok45, I fired before I expected. That's where the whole "keep you finger off the trigger until absolutely ready to fire" comes in! I was so impressed, I told my buddy to come over and drop the hammer on this thing and he was equally impressed. Something hickok didn't mention is that the bullet does not fit flush in the chamber. If you push it down flush, it will not extract the bullet when you open the gun after firing it and jam up the works. It doesn't fully extract as you probably noticed...the brass comes out just far enough to get your fingers on it. Of course, with the paws on Hickok45, he is probably using his finger nails! LOL! Love the videos hickok45 and John...keep em coming! I would recommend this little gun highly!
I have one in 22LR with a Still suppressor and I love it. Non shooters are amazed because it doesn't look like a gun to them, and they enjoy trying it because it's so non-intimidating. The trigger is slightly heavy but crisp and it's fairly accurate. I removed the iron sights and installed a cheap red dot, and removed the lower rail so it folds a bit tighter. It's very light and robust and great fun for plinking a few targets in the garden when the urge takes me. With a suppressor it's quieter than an air gun with subsonic rounds. The break barrel makes it very easy to clean. I would highly recommend it, especially in 22LR.
I have 2 of these . One in .22 LR and one in .22 Mag . I've had a ton of fun with them and may get one in .17 HMR too . I get them for $ 163.00 at my local gun shop .
I enjoy guns, yet never go to shows and hardly ever get to a gun store. Its vids like this that give me info and knowledge on guns. Its pretty easy to not watch if you don't like the firearm. I enjoy Hickock's manner in the way he teaches about guns. He is one of the very few channels I can watch about guns. Don't really care for the " tough guy " bs channels.
I started using weed whip string to clean .22 and .17. I cut it to length, (a bit longer than the barrel), sharpen one end, and heat and "dob" the other end to enlarge it. I can then stab a patch with the sharp end and move it to the other end. The string is much more narrow and softer than the bore so I don't worry about damaging it. Any gun can be cleaned from the breech end this way. It's CHEAP too! Works great.
Travis K Well, you spread it along and I appreciate that as I'm sure a few people will here who end up using it. Good ideas deserve to be spread regardless of who gets credit for coming up with it originally.
That's actually a pretty cool idea for such a tiny barrel. You should have seen the looks on the shooters faces when my Black Powder revolver was fowling. Not only did the Cold have the whole front end taken off from the back, but I rummaged and found a twig long and straight enough to push the cleaning wipe down the barrel. Ingenuity I love it.
I know this is a (very) belated comment, but wanted to clarify - this rifle has direct lineage to the M-6 line of rifles (Springfield Scout). They were made for pilots as part of their survival kit. Lightweight and easily stored under the seat or elsewhere, it could keep someone alive for a week or 2 after a remote hard landing. The original guns were over/under - typically .22 over .410 or something similar. I owned a .22 Hornet over a .410 in the early 2000's, and sold it for what I thought was a fortune in my early 20's. It still stands out as the biggest mistake I have ever made in regards to trading firearms or knives. I made about $100 on it, and bought a fly reel. The gun is worth $500 more than that now, and incredibly hard to find. Great video. that .17 HMR is a really interesting round, I have never watched a video with one, and had no idea about the velocity, etc. From a pure survival standpoint, I think the .22 is a better option (price, ease of finding), but the .17 is a really interesting little stinger.
Ive got one of these in .22 I love it. Put a red dot sight on there and its awesome. Ive got darn near 1000 rounds through it now and its still as reliable as ever.

Finally a 17hmr video, thanxs man, I Live on the Alberta prairies and am a religious gopher shooter, used to use 22lr and .223, but switched to the 17hmr 2 years ago, use a Savage 9317r bull barrel with a Leupold 4-12x50 VXII. out to 250 yards it still cuts 'em in half, no comparison!!!!!
I think the .17HMR is a great round for plinking and otherwise having fun. This rifle is probably a good choice for teaching younger shooters. It looks like it would be fun to shoot. This is why I love wathcing hickock45's videos. You never know what you'll see, but it's probably going to be fun to watch!
Woo Hoo I just found my new home defense firearm!!!!! Ok maybe not but it looks like a fun little backpacking plinker where predators aren't an issue. I have a decent little collection of Firearms, and one of my favorite's is my used N.E.F. 20 Gauge Pardner break open. It's 18.5" barrel Mod Cylinder choke, and just FUN to shoot. So I know what you mean when you talk about respecting a simple gun. This was a pretty cool video Hickok45, I wish you would do more on unusual or affordable firearms. You do a lot of middle value and higher end firearms but not enough of the S&W VE aka Sigma value quotient. But I am a sucker for something unusual. Thanks for the video.
I've always had a thing for small, camp-type carbines and survival guns. I have a Few Marlin Camp Carbines myself, but I would like to add a small caliber, folding pack gun to my kit.
This little .17 round is not only faster than a .22lr but also has more muzzle energy! (~245 FPE vs 135 FPE for a .22lr). They should totally make a .17 caliber semi-auto pocket pistol like the Ruger lcp2.
Ye it Would but it does have a kind of half ejector it just lifts the casing up a bit so it’s easier to get out, while not a proper ejector it’s better than nothing
It has one sorta you gotta crack it fast enough or use stubby 22s cuz they are hilarious but still pack a little tiny punch thats good enough for me but it has an extractor so idk why they didnt make it like a shotgun where the smoke in the barrel is thick enough for the shell pressure remaining to push themselves out of you mean an extractor similar to a revolver then totally they should. Now correct me if im wrong i like to know what i can learn the answers to. But can't tje short casing make it likely to actually eject rather just extract
My favorite firearm that I own is a Winchester Model 67-22. Single shot, rudimentry stock, bolt, firing pin, and iron sights. Like you said, nothing better to hone shooting skills & discipline for both the novice and the experienced.
That is one of the cooler and more unique firearms I have seen recently. Looks like it would be a good critter gitter. Keep showing the cool firearms off hickok45
just like the mexican 22 i use to shoot as a young boy without suppervision. In the hills of Vacaville C.a breach loading is cool for first time shooters, along with the bows and crossbows we used as boys growing up kinda exposed me to guns before i recived a m-16 in basic seven months later in the jungle of Panama then dessert storm small guns are cool my boys have a hk 416d but for a young black boy hiking and fishing i had a blast.
Great review. I went with a 22WMR Badger myself. It is a cute little rifle. I've got it all dolled up now with rail covers, hand release pivot pin and wrapped the stock in para cord.
Late to the game here, but those skeleton frame .22's were popular with bicyclists back in the 1880's and 1890's. They were for picking off stray dogs that were notorious for chasing cyclists. Makers back in the day were Quackenbush, Hamilton (for Sears), and J. Stevens. It's so old, the design is new again!
Looks like something developed by the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) to be dropped to the French for dispatching enemy officers and other garden pests...now a suppressor suddenly makes good sense. Or have it in a survival pack in a wilderness/float plane or boat as a small game gettter. Great review brother. Loved it.
hickok45 the snobs like AR and AK vids. We all enjoy your show because you spread things around. Nothing more boring then seeing the same Tactical garbage day in and day out. I never would have even known about that little thing if it weren't for you. My two little ones would love a small rifle like that!
I have a Little Badger in .22Lr, and I agree that the trigger is phenomenal. I checked it and it came in 1.8lbs pull. And it is almost silent with aguila super colibris. Really fun gun. Want to get one in .22 mag now.
The double rifle is called the double badger. They also make a little badge with a wood stock, they come it in 22lr 22WMR and 17 hmr. They also make one called the little squirel which is chambered in 9mm flobert. Chiappa make some great guns.
Long time video watcher, first time commenting. I really enjoy all your videos and greatly appreciate the time you invest in showing us all these videos. I can't speak for everyone, but from those of us who greatly enjoy these videos I would like to say Thank you and keep up the great work. I do have a request if you could possibly try, whenever possible, various semi automatic shotguns for those of us considering getting into 3 gun competition. Off the top of my head the top recommended are: 1. Benelli M2 2. Mossberg JM 930 3. Remington Versa Max 4. Stoeger M3000 5. FNH SLP MK1 Again thank you very much for your videos, and hope to continue seeing more.
I got this rifle. Very cost effective gun if all you need is just one shot. Great trigger. Breaks very crisp, and a child would have no problem with it. The rear sight is easily adjustable with attached knobs. It breaks down nearly in half for backpack storage. The pistol grip (sold separately) is hollow and contains a cleaning kit. It was designed for emergency survival in mind.
I know I'm a little late watching this. but 17hmr is my go to round for small game hunting. I'm a little south from you in western north carolina, squirrel, rabbit, ground hogs, and even varmits up to coyote I hunt with a 17hmr I also shoot 17wsm hunting. those rounds you were using were some of my favorites. but don't let the little polymer tip 17 round fool you the first time I used one squirrel hunting I made the mistake of shooting one in the side directly in the middle, needless to say that one was ruined (17 cci polymer tip) I now use the cci fmj rounds for everything I eat and soft points or polymer tip rounds for coys or any other varmit. the 17wsm only comes in polymer tip rounds and using it squirrel hunting takes carefully placed shots. but for anyone new to small caliber firearms in my opinion I believe the little 17 is a great starter and a great hunting round for small game. review the savage b.mag *heavy barrel* in 17wsm the fastest rimfire in the world. I believe it will surprise you.
Use a 17 HMR here in australia for rabbit, bigger caliber for larger species such as roo obviously, but have always had a soft spot for the 17 on small game, super fast and flat, super accurate, and packs a punch down at the other end, 17hmr for the win 👍🏼
I showed the boys at work my .22 version today, they thought it was hilarious at first, but then I put a grip on the front and a red dot on it and they ended up appreciating it a lot more lol, a couple of em shot it and said it was awesome
WOW I was playing with one of these at a friends house yesterday. I kicked myself because I didnt take any pictures of it and I had no idea what it was! I get on RUclips bored after a nice day and low and behold under "You may like...." I see a thumbnail picture of Hickok45 holding the Little Badger and realize RUclips and Hickok45 have conspired to read my mind! :-) anyways thanks for sharing even if the video is old. Now I just need to find one in 22 Mag or 17 HMR.
Ive had the 22lr versions. Ive put at least 500 rounds through this thing. Add a cheap little red dot and you have a winner all around, This gun is so much fun.
I really enjoy my .22lr. Picked off dozens of Red Squirrels with it, simple bushnell scope, Yankee Hill Machine Flash Hider(AAC Prodigy Silencer coming in the next few months), and wrapped the stock with Paracord for more comfort. Awesome little rifle and a great go to rodent/pest control rifle. Buds is too high as well as most other retailers. I picked mine up for around $125
In 44 years of shooting I've never seen a tin can flip over and land on its top when hit like that last one H45 shot. This video was worth watching just for that!
As an owner of two chiappa little badgers be warned not to disassemble the firearm. The Chiappalloy used in the little badger is likened to a soft aluminum that the hardened torx screws can easily be strip the threads out of the receiver. It is evidently a known problem as the manual vaguely warns to not over torque the screws. I've been trying to warn everyone I can. Wood screws would have been a better choice from the factory for more bite. Just my 2 cents.
What a great lil Gun Hickok. Really love what you guys do! Being over here in England we don't have the access to Firearms that you guys enjoy. You probably get this all the time, but would, if possible, love! To see you guys do a vid on the British forces L85/SA80.
I have a little Henry .17HMR levergun and love it. I use heavy nylon weed whacker cord for a boresnake, sharpen one end to poke through the gauze and melt the other end to make a knob. The CCR ammo, hollowpoint without the plastic insert is turned sideways easily in a light breeze. Thanks for all the good videos!
Seems like it would be a great backpacking or survival rifle that could surely keep you from starving to death. My grandmother told me that grandpa fed the family on deer with nothing more than a single shot .22 when the family was first starting out. Single shots make one a good marksman just like Hickok said
Hickok, I am dying to see you review a Browning BLR. Very few people have done an extensive report on this amazing rifle. Please help those few of us that know how great this rifle is to show people. I say that a takedown BLR, Stainless Steel, in 308 is just about the finest all around hunting rifle out there.
Good review, Hickok45. The Little Badger looks like a handy rifle to take along camping or fishing. Plus, it's an excellent rifle to teach kids how to shoot. The external hammer is something that can be watched to ensure gun safety. Plus, machine gunning off, boxes off .22 ammunition in a semi-automatic, doesn't teach kids anything (Except to waste money like a drunk-politician).
Keep up the good work, look forward to listening to your interesting informative and unbiased view of the diversity of available fire arms. P.S think we not fooled anymore by your gun safe with all these weird interesting guns you find down the back ;)
I've seen you shoot those two liters with larger rounds that didn't tear up the bottles nearly as badly as that little badger. It might be small and simple but it'll still put holes in what you're aiming at. I'm not telling anyone to take it bear hunting but for what it is it's pretty cool.
Almost got one of these about two weeks ago at a gun show, owner wasn't willing to do a trade though. It's a shame, I have such sweet fantasies of building grips and other accessories for those rails...
Thanks for the review on this. I will be looking into one for my son to learn on and keep around for a Lil survival carry around. Definitely looking forward to the chiappa rhino review. I like the way they look and wonder how they function.
I have one in .22 magnum. All I had laying around was an old Leopold vari-x ii 4-12x40AO. The scope is as big as the rifle. Lol. But everyone who shoots it is impressed at the accuracy
I have this gun in the .22 LR version and absolutely love it. The only thing I did to it was paint the front sight bright red, just to make it easier to get a quick sight picture in a survival situation.
As for the cleaning - when we had to shoot some corrosive ammo so we needed to clean up right after we finished shooting and there were no appropriate cleaning rod on the firing range we just got a long cotton rope with diameter smaller than the gun caliber, put it trough the barrel, made couple of knots on the loose end, dipped the knots in the cleaning fluid and pulled the rope with these knots trough the barrel. Worked just fine for us.
44 people don't understand the value of a nice, relatively powerful but small and compact single shot rifle. But if they ever needed one and didn't have one, they'd be voting differently. And H45 is right on the mark, as usual: a "youngster" could do a lot worse than start out with a rifle like this one. It's patience and practice that teaches the basics, not firing a lot of ammo. that makes it hard to afford. Great vid.
I want this gun. I've been thinking of a Little Badger for over a year now and seeing that it's chambered in .17 just put it over the top. I know what my christmas money is going towards.
The cartridges in the stock look so mean!
Love your channel sir. I'm a huge fan! :)

Nothing quite says "badass gun" like extra ammo storage on the stock, does it?
+DemolitionRanch You should shoot some stuff with a .17 HMR some day... would make for a good video.
Jay Hutchins as far as I can tell, he is shooting some stuff with a .17hmr.
get one of these and compare side by side to the Henry U.S Survival
Only Hickock45 could make a 21-minute video about a single shot survival rifle interesting to watch... I do wish it had a ejector instead of an extractor. That *ping!* sound and an empty case zipping over your shoulder is brilliant!

It would make a good little gun to keep in the trunk for emergencies.
What a neat little hiking, camping, squirrel, rabbit gun. It's light and small enough to even take it stream fishing.
I LIKE it!
I've felt for some time that I have enough guns, but this one is calling to me!
All i can think of is: "We need a .50BMG version!".
It would probably just explode when you shoot it xD

WH250398 Maybe that's how to universe started mate, the big bang is being uncovered here.
ArthurAlcantara RUclips users' logic in a nutshell. :)
25mm version
Great review. I went with a 22WMR Badger myself. It is a cute little rifle. I've got it all dolled up now with rail covers, hand release pivot pin and wrapped the stock in para cord.
Late to the game here, but those skeleton frame .22's were popular with bicyclists back in the 1880's and 1890's. They were for picking off stray dogs that were notorious for chasing cyclists. Makers back in the day were Quackenbush, Hamilton (for Sears), and J. Stevens. It's so old, the design is new again!
Just ordered one of these a few days ago from a local shop
Going to be a few weeks before it will be in and the anticipation is killing me
Looks like something developed by the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) to be dropped to the French for dispatching enemy officers and other garden pests...now a suppressor suddenly makes good sense.
It's a cool thing and is what it is!
Well done Hickok for reviewing ALL firearm types.
👍🔫👍
Off the top of my head the top recommended are:
1. Benelli M2
2. Mossberg JM 930
3. Remington Versa Max
4. Stoeger M3000
5. FNH SLP MK1
Again thank you very much for your videos, and hope to continue seeing more.
Agreed, how is it's range?
Well said sir! I happen to enjoy the variety of firearms you review. Always entertaining and educational new or old
Use a 17 HMR here in australia for rabbit, bigger caliber for larger species such as roo obviously, but have always had a soft spot for the 17 on small game, super fast and flat, super accurate, and packs a punch down at the other end, 17hmr for the win 👍🏼
I showed the boys at work my .22 version today, they thought it was hilarious at first, but then I put a grip on the front and a red dot on it and they ended up appreciating it a lot more lol, a couple of em shot it and said it was awesome
Something like this is perfect for training up the kids with, I will get one for my daughter in a few years.
This video made me stop hating .17 HMR, and made me like it.
Every time he walks back towards the table before remembering there's 12 rounds held in the stock
On my bucket list
I really enjoy my .22lr. Picked off dozens of Red Squirrels with it, simple bushnell scope, Yankee Hill Machine Flash Hider(AAC Prodigy Silencer coming in the next few months), and wrapped the stock with Paracord for more comfort. Awesome little rifle and a great go to rodent/pest control rifle. Buds is too high as well as most other retailers. I picked mine up for around $125
Looks like a great rifle to keep for survival situations, either at home or outdoors. And affordable!
Love the .17 round, SUPER ACURATE !
17 HMR is a pretty decent cartridge for hunting small game and varmints. My brother took out a pretty large coyote with a single shot with a 17
It would be nice if there was at least some kind of spring loaded casing release. It looks silly, but also kind of fun.
I shot one and I really was impressed. Aventually I probably will get one in 22lr. ...Thanks for sharing.
You put pointed tip cartridges in a tube? I assume that's why they have that plastic bit? Lol sorry I'm new to this
Seems like it would be a great backpacking or survival rifle that could surely keep you from starving to death. My grandmother told me that grandpa fed the family on deer with nothing more than a single shot .22 when the family was first starting out. Single shots make one a good marksman just like Hickok said
DocLarsen44 I'd rather carry an M4A2
@@506jeff
Sure, but you use what you have.
After one mile carrying everything you needed I bet you’d wish you’d brought this.
looks like a perfect little gun for an apocalypse type scenario.
Man that thing is beautiful, its got so much character
Good review, Hickok45. The Little Badger looks like a handy rifle to take along camping or fishing. Plus, it's an excellent rifle to teach kids how to shoot. The external hammer is something that can be watched to ensure gun safety. Plus, machine gunning off, boxes off .22 ammunition in a semi-automatic, doesn't teach kids anything (Except to waste money like a drunk-politician).
"Let's put one on the gong."
Nice! I see a great christmas stocking stuffer right here.
I really knew nothing about the 17HMR round. Thank you for the education.
Nice video, good to see something different. thanks for showing and talking about it!
Keep up the good work, look forward to listening to your interesting informative and unbiased view of the diversity of available fire arms. P.S think we not fooled anymore by your gun safe with all these weird interesting guns you find down the back ;)
60fps, the definitive Hickok45 experience.
Well done hickok45 .. keep up the great work
reminds me of the custom gun from "The Day of the Jackal" with the custom ammo.
That looks like a fun little gun Hickok
I've seen you shoot those two liters with larger rounds that didn't tear up the bottles nearly as badly as that little badger. It might be small and simple but it'll still put holes in what you're aiming at. I'm not telling anyone to take it bear hunting but for what it is it's pretty cool.
I'm glad to see you back. You need a backup plan in case the yards take you sdown again. Pleascput content on another video sharing site.
Good to hear that it's not a piece of junk. That makes me ask, could you please review the Winchester Wildcat 22LR semi-auto?
I've been looking into one of these. Thanks for the video.
Wow that's so cool, I haven't seen a firearm like that before.
This is a nice backpack/survival rifle. 17 hmr is a nifty little round and will get food on the table.
"If I take this in for any serious combat I'm probably gonna paint the front sight"
My head hurts from laughing so hard....
Paint the whole thing red. What if you are having trouble locating your gun in a survival situation.
Yeah that's a nice little lightweight rifle. You can stick it in your backpack and go hiking with it.
I'm a huge 17 fan!!! Awesome, just wish they cost less....
Please do more reviews of weird guns like this. This video was cool
That 17 HMR looks like it would be really fun in a handgun. Tearing up soda cans would be a blast with something like that I think.
