I don't know how common this is, but even one instance is too much. These contracts are for A LOT of money. The profit margin after paying workers is phenomenal. No reason to wrong those that make the work happen

I have a small construction firm for 20+ years now. I can’t even think of owing my guys money or not paying them every Monday morning. Without them I would never be able to do the jobs myself.

@@PaytonDowns it works for me and my crew We never had an issue. Some time we work 7 days a week so Monday is ideal for us.

Noticed once he said that they all went quit, the Sheriff Deputy went on a "defence mode"to protect himself and fellow Deputies to not get involved in State/Federal Labor Law Dispute.

Exactly. The foreman is just caught in the middle. He has no control over the office procedures or finances but is expected to continue to produce work. Its not his company and I can tell he doesn’t like the way things are any more than anybody else. As far as the guys in the office you can tell its a totally different attitude

I know of companies in the union right now in Southern California that make their employees work Saturdays with no pay in order to keep them busy. Buy tools for the job, out of pocket. This needs to be addressed with in the union first. The guys don’t speak up because their names get exposed and nobody hires them for telling. Can we be anonymous? If we speak up? and what will be done about the issue? This company has been slapped in the wrist before, the guys are scared because they’ve been told if they take their tools the union will fine them but what about the contractor that is supposed to provide such equipment??

I have to say though there are some great union companies and deserve all the recognition but we need to get rid of these RAT contractors we have in our union, first clean house then move out. I don't argue with subcontractors here in NYC.
I ask or try my hardest to be fair and understanding,but will go to the GC who'll gladly pay and charges the sub a 22% fee.
I had Triton Structural here in NYC for Hurricane Sandy work and whatta fkn mess they were for about a week.😅

It’s these actions that the business representatives do that make me proud to be a union carpenter
the workers need to file a wage theft claim with the department of industrial relations .there are severe penalties and fines that add up daily for unpaid wages .they can still file a claim even after being paid late and caught up ,and will most definitely be awarded .wage theft is a crime !

Nope that cop should not honor that arrest cuz ur willing to leave he should stress that if he’s doing illegal pay checks and withholding he will be glad to put him under arrest.. police shouldn’t be able to let anyone feel that using police as a weapon is ok
He has no choice, they are trespassing on private property. If they really meant all of this they would take all of their evidence to the police and see if criminal charges are possible for the checks. Once the cops come around the site conducting a lawful investigation the workers would have been paid no doubt. There are laws to follow when doing this kind of stuff and this page can't go around acting like vigilantes or they risk jail time.
Love to see active union reps. Unfortunately here in the East the idea that unions actively protect their territories is a myth. NYC used take great pride in the unions controlling the building work. No more. The same is beginning to also take hold in NJ.

The scene at 1 time I've seen a cop catch the back of somebody that would be and wrong by somebody else. They're always catching the backs of the guys doing the wrong. That's how they learn to do the wrong themselves Nowadays everybody in the world starting to fight back against the cops

This would never happen to legal citizens in construction. Speaking of which, I, myself as a carpenter of over 15 years experience can't get a job because contractors would rather hire illegals to pay less. When these illegals say they have rights, it makes me sick.
