  • Upper Geyser Basin. Geyser Hill. Old Faithful. This is the big time. This is the walk that many, many thousands of people come from all over the world to see, do and experience. Upper Geyser Basin as a whole covers square miles of areas, and holds almost 2/3 of the world’s geothermal features. If you want to see, hear, smell and experience boiling water, this is the place to be.
It takes about 25 minutes to walk Geyser Hill, without stopping to ogle at the features. To walk the rest of the main Upper Geyser Basin - to Riverside Geyser, Morning Glory Pool & Daisy Geyser - it’ll take another hour or a bit more. Again, without stopping to watch and really enjoy the features.
If you’re worried about trying to catch Old Faithful, don’t be. She goes off every hour and a half or so, so odd are you’ll catch her from afar at least once on your wandering. And if you time it right, you can wander most of the basin in between eruptions.
No matter how many times I visit the park, I try to get this walk in at least once. Because it is so special, and there’s always something new and different to see. Whether it’s a new feature poking out of the crust, and old feature skiing down, or simply the eruption cycles and colored bacterial mats shifting.
