      He should sit down, if he can’t start at 9 million beats per min he should be on the podium for this piece. Way to make one of the best “military” bands sound like they didn’t practice. Ego shouldn’t belong in music.

    • @coloraturaElise
      @coloraturaElise 5 лет назад +65

      @@frankiesanchez2319 I don't think they sound like they didn't practice. No one can play at that speed without practicing. And his ego doesn't enter into it--the clarinets get the credit for being able to handle it, not him.

      I've listened a bit to the Irish reel style, on which this composition is based, and it seems as though the tune is supposed to be played this fast, but slurred.

  • @merlinpetroff6893
    @merlinpetroff6893 4 года назад +89

    We played this every night on bunches of tours. You really don't need to double tongue as much as stay relaxed and not get tongue tied. I was principal there until 1992. by the way, we called it "Molly on the Floor"! Those men and women turn into solid Grenadilla when they play!

    As much as you may not believe the tempo was correct, do not doubt the Colonel. The Lake Highlands Symphonic Band play Molly at MidWest in 1976 under Eddie Green , who is acknowledged as a Grainger expert, and this is their tempo. And it was magnificent!

      Yes, the reason so many think it's too fast is because most bands play it too slowly....because they can't play it at tempo. But of course, this is the USM Band, so they can!

    • @LeoPlayzPiano
      @LeoPlayzPiano 8 месяцев назад +1
