    If you have space at home, do a mock setup with some friends or family. Have everyone stand in your shopping space at once. If you feel crowded, so will your customers. There's many customers that feel trapped in the traditional U-shaped setup and simply will not stop in if another person is already in that tight space.

      What is the best shape to use then?

    • @laurent3415
      @laurent3415 Год назад +5

      @@purelivingwater7707 That depends on booth size and how close your neighbors are. If at all possible, aim for 2 entry/exit points so your customers won't get trapped by slower shoppers. If your customer approach-areas can be along the outside of your booth space they can access your merchandise a lot easier and can just back up a step to re-enter walking zones to the next booth.

    Seasoned vendor here. A lot of what you said is spot on! Canopy weights and a wagon are essential pieces of equipment. One piece of advice I can share is try to have your transport containers for small items double as your display. I am a tie dyer and soap maker so it's funny how our product lines are similar. Other essentials I would add are a battery powered fan, a clean up kit (with wipes, paper towels and a trash bag), and a cooler with drinks and possibly snacks.

    • @holditch1
      @holditch1 Год назад +2

      These are all great things that are essential. Do you do any events in cooler weather? I tried last year and I couldn't tolerate it, but this year I'd like to find some way to have a little bit of heat and maybe give it a try. Do you have any recommendations? I have a small portable propane heater and I wonder if it would help if I put up the 3 back tent walls?

    • @The-Grateful-Hippie

    A word about pink tents - they're eye-catching, but they WILL change the color of the items you display, especially on a sunny day! It's like boosting the warmth & saturation on a photo. Something to consider before you invest.

    Very informative. Thank you. One thing we have started doing also is we bought little risers, I think they are for a bed or something, but they’re like 4-6” blocks that we put under each table leg just to raise it up a little higher. It doesn’t seem like much, but somehow it just raises stuff up enough to feel a difference, if that makes sense.

    I use a Fannie pack with seperated zipper pockets. No cash box. Works great for me

    • @Kat_and_Luna
      @Kat_and_Luna Год назад +5

      I've decided to go this route too because I know my ADHD will make it too easy for me to get distracted and let my cash box be vulnerable, especially when we've had problems in my area with couples doing a one-two to see purses where the woman talks to distract the victim while they are putting their cart away after under loading and the man grabs the purse if it was left behind in the car!

    • @holditch1
      @holditch1 Год назад +6

      Same. I get too distracted for a cash box and I include tax in my pricing, so I wont need to handle coins.

  • @holditch1
    @holditch1 Год назад +27

    I would add to not get too fixated on your booth being a specific layout because sometimes you might need to change it up last minute, depending on your neighbor's setup, how much space there is between booths, and even if the ground is unlevel. I've had to move tables to straddle potholes on the pavement before to avoid trip hazards, and I've also ended up being on a corner unexpectedly, which meant I did better with 2 entrances and a more open layout, since customers might come in from either direction. If you have a lot of room between booths, I like to set may tables up in a T shape and maximize display space, but if they are tight together, I have to use a U. If I have neighbors very close and they have up their side walls, I can't put up my back wall because it traps all the fresh air out and it becomes a sauna inside. But if there's space, I sometimes put up 2 walls in direction sun will be coming in, to make it cooler. You also have to be careful if there's a chance of rain and your neighbors have up side walls -- they will dump water into your tent and that becomes an issue, so you have to have your walls ready to pop up quickly if it starts to sprinkle. Point being -- come up with a few different variations so you can change up easily when you get there, if needed.

    Is there a certain size tent that is standard for markets or pop ups?

      Usually is a 10x10ft tent/spot. But I've also joined smaller pop-ups with a 6x10 ft space, so just a table would fit basically.

    You have your sandbags stowed away empty. How are you going to get anything to fill them with when you set up?
    We keep ours filled with sand at all times, and we take both the sand bags and weights that we got at a yard sale that are for weight lifting because sometimes you need both styles. Also, most venues not only require the tents to be white, but white is best for outdoors it helps reflect the heat. And you will always have to be able to switch up how your layout is we set up the exact same way for around 1.5 years then went to one that our normal layout just didn't work so we had to hurry upon the spot and change everything now we don't even sweat it we get there as early as possible our favorite is night before when applicable and take our time and set up our layout for the area we are in, we always sit where we face incoming customers so we never have our backs to them.
    I have been doing this going on 3 year my biggest pet peeve I see from other vendors is they are nose deep into thier phones while potential customers are looking around thier booth not only does this turn customers away and they just lost sales, but it's the best way for mischievous people to steal from you and you won't even know it until it's too late.
    Also something I saw from a 1st time vendor this past Saturday, the event wasn't busy at all it ended it a flop, though to kill time I guess her and her husband were pretty much Dr humping each other if they weren't on thier phones the whole time. Don't do that, no PDA!!!
    Also, if at all possible, don't do events alone. Have a friend, hubby, boyfriend, teenage son, daughter, etc. Go with you. Yes it will be boring for them if they aren't into it, but not only does it help with set up, but hard to be robbed when there are 4 or more sets of eyes on the booth at all times. Plus, you can take a bathroom break much easier if someone is sitting at your booth. When I cannot be at an event my boyfriend has a friend he trust with his life gonwith him, she helps him set up manage the booth and at the venues that don't have to be all handmade products she takes some of her flea market stuff and sells it while hanging out with him.
    Also plastic totes with kids is far better to haul your products vs. Boxes we started with boxes they fal apart, they get wet and become soggy trash. You can't predict the weather keep your products safe don't use boxes you'll end up mad at your self when you go to pick it up.one day the bottom falls.out and your standing in a pile of busted glass and candle wax chunks. It ruined the entire day and puts you in a very bad mood!
