    I love doing this exercise!! And the best part is that not too many folks at the gym do them they're all huddled around the bench press which leaves the exercise open for me

      A lot nicer on the shoulder joint as well, this is my favourite upper chest exercise now.

    • @gabrielrangel956
      @gabrielrangel956 8 лет назад

      ***** I meant the shoulder as a joint, but it does. The landmine press is traditionally a shoulder exercise, though I'd try to do this variation focusing on your chest.

    • @KungFuZer0
      @KungFuZer0 8 лет назад +3

      +strength0VERsize Yeah it does, just like most chest exercises. Doing it single armed and leaning more forward would be a standard Landmine press that hits mostly shoulder, no chest.

  • @buffdudes
    @buffdudes  11 лет назад +44

    This exercise is very similar to a landmine shoulder press, but with a few key differences. You're leaning more towards the bar to help with upper chest activation, and with the hands clasped together you want to squeeze the chest as you complete the full range of motion, keeping your elbows tight to the body.

    I absolutely love this exercise though it's very annoying when you hit failure and you have to some how move backwards and drop the barbell even when you are already fatigued from the exercise.

    • @bboooobbyy
      @bboooobbyy 7 лет назад +12

      Tom Bekhor place a bench in front of you, perpendicular to the bar. Easier to start and finish the exercise.

  • @buffdudes
    @buffdudes  11 лет назад +2

    Hi Colaborador300. Try leaning towards the bar a little more throughout the motion and the chest contracted squeezing the chest together by keeping the inward pressure in the hands.

  • @MrAntiMJ
    @MrAntiMJ 11 лет назад +9

    After watching this, I decided to try it out in place of an close-grip incline dumbbell press at the end of my chest workout.
    Just by holding and stabilizing the barbell, it was already like a burning chest isometric. The end of the barbell itself forces a closer grip than holding two dumbbells together which makes for a tighter squeeze when adducting your arms. The final press just puts it over the top. Also, you get an extra squeeze in your core as an added bonus when you lean forward.

    tried this and it really hit the upper chest good. i've just started subscribing to you guys few days ago and I've already learned a lot. I enjoy your videos and it also helps me get amped up. Thanks buff dudes!

  • @buffdudes
    @buffdudes  11 лет назад +2

    Hey czoraa21. We don't see why you couldn't do unilateral landmine chest presses, but without clasping the hands together to get extra squeeze in the chest for better contraction, you might not feel it as much in the chest. Feel free to try it out and let us know!

    I personally don’t like Incline Bench all that much and I find this to be a nice and more fun alternative that works for me. It’s a nice mixture of Incline and Overhead Press that also works the inner chest a bit.
    I doubt that it hits the specific muscles as effectively as an Incline but I also think that this hits more muscles overall while also incorporating some core stability

      I bought a viking type slide over end of bar attachment.its got rubber grips .so instead of both hands together holding the bar ,I can press it up with hands apart .plus I start it off with a small bench in front of me ,so its easier to pick up from a double knee position, and as I touch the bench on the down position its easy to go to failure and place the bar on the bench instead of the floor.
