You do realise that silicosis causes pneumoconiosis that is an inflammation and scarring of the upper lobes of the lungs causing nodular lesions resulting from inhalation of silica, quartz or slate particles. You are exposed to silica etcetera when drilling or cutting concrete. You are all concerned about asbestos and mesothelioma yet fail to realise that silicosis is more likely to kill you as your exposure to it is far greater than asbestos.
Especially when you wear mask but don't use appropriate dust control measures.

I'm a 60 year old semi-retired electrician and have disturbed a lot of asbestos in my time, especially in power stations accidently knocking lagging off pipes, drilling into asbestos sheet thinking it was plasterboard, but what I'm dying of is silicosis caused by years of inhaling concrete dust from drilling and cutting!

Also what u call all the parts and pieces of electrical equipment is completely different from here. Although we have single phase 240 to all our houses, we mostly run 120 circuits to the various rooms in our houses. Pool motors and AC condensing units get 240. I have a couple of car racks in my shop which r also 240. So I am learning u guys do things differently. And probably many ways more advanced. The channel is a lot of fun!! Great vid as always Cory, regarding the thermal runaway, I think this is less of a problem in newer EVs, and will be less and less of a problem over time as we move to solid state batteries, so long as a company doesn't store a load of Chevy Bolts under your apartment, the risk is fairly low :)

  • @mfx1

Asbestos is fine if still intact, you can double bag it up and dispose of it properly, Chrysotile woven asbestos is relatively safe compared to other forms of asbestos so the risk from a few fuses is EXTREMELY low, There's more of a risk if a fuse has blown as that may have damaged the rope. there's really no reason to throw anything away that's been in the same room.

Agreed, the way people act around potential asbestos is hilarious. Yes, it's a known carcinogen. But no, just looking at it or touching won't kill you. Even directly inhaling the dust isn't a guarantee of getting cancer. The chances are actually really slim and it's more from continued exposure. Like someone mentioned above, I also worked around it for years and years, over 30 years ago. No one I know I worked with had any ill effects from it.... yet...... lol

In Belgium, there is a requirement to have an RCBO per charging point. Every charging point is therefore typically wired separately with 6mm2 into a distribution board close to the parking spaces, with the RCBOs in that distribution board. In case of a bus configuration, the alternative is to integrate the RCBO inside the charging point, but then this is not user-serviceable (i.e. you need to call an electrician to activate it again...).
Love the channel, lots of love from across the channel.

    Great video as always
At planning stage should have asked for the asbestos survey. No life is worth the risk.
On day one should have had a look at the onsite survey file to know where asbestos is if any is present and where it is located. If you drill through asbestos, you have now created a big problem and you are now responsible for the clear up and all other health and safety problems that arise.
Cory was right walk away you should never just sweep or use a standard vacuum the only one you can use is a H class vacuum and they can only be emptied under controlled conditions. And they need to be DOP tested every 6 months.

Nice video. Writing from the US here - so pardon if my metric to us to metric conversions are askew. What you are doing on this job I think is fairly cutting edge - at least for the US - as we've not broadly prioritized electrifying multiple - much less all parking spots in an apartment building car park. So there's lots to learn here about what is acceptable and good practice. If I understood you correctly, it sounds like you are taking a 60amp 3 phase ~240V service line and splitting it 3 ways (I assume then effectively single phase) on each of 3 lines into ~10 chargers each. You mentioned 22KW - which I assume is the approximate service of each single phase. My question therefore is this: If everyone signs up for the service (eventually) and everyone looks to charge at the same time say overnight, won't the effective per car charge be just ~2KW each (given 10 chargers per line)? I'm wondering therefore is there a 'standard' for what available power should be across the number of shared units. I feel like here in the US building managers are worried about needing to bring in multiples of 40/60 amp 240V circuits into their building paired with each new electric car that comes into the garage to 'live.' Each also with a meter to measure monthly usage for charge back to the user. The idea of sharing a single, or even 3 circuits across 30 spots seems foreign if not quite practical.

In a car park with residential "home" charging there will always be the same residents parking each night. On average each car uses 8 kWh per day which means during 12 hours each charge point will use 0.7kW on average. Load balancing and metering is all handled via wifi connection to the chargers.

    • @edc1569
      @edc1569 Год назад

66kW is able to deliver about 230 miles of range an hour, or 2,000 miles in 8 hours overnight. For many apartment buildings this is going to be fine for quite a lot of spaces. When working at scale you always leverage diversity, its just in this case you can actually manage it which allows you to run much closer to capacity.

The EV charging under buildings is already a huge debate here with a few high profile fires that causes massive damage to the structure and loss of other cars.

Lovely install done by you guys.. on a side note, does make me wonder about grid capacity full stop though - from what I could see here, you've got a three phase 63A supply, but each of these car chargers is capable of working up to 32A each.. so to run all the car chargers at full capacity, you need 960amps. So if all the spaces had an EV plugged in and charging, they'd be running at about 1.4KW each. By Telsa's own calculations, a Model 3 would take about 48 hours to fully charge - so even with all the caveats of not every EV would be using 100% charge at the same time etc, there just doesn't seem to be enough power in the building to charge 30 EVs at any decent rate.
I think the other thing to mention is how on earth does this get charged for? As a communal supply, if I'm living in flat 10 and don't have an EV, and John in Flat 15 does.. I don't want to pay for the electric cost of charging his car in leasehold fees.

    • @southcoastev
      @southcoastev Год назад

Hi, the calculations aren't correct, there are 30 chargers total, across 3 Circuits. Each circuit the max draw is 32A so across 3 Circuits that's 96A not 960, that would be correct if all individually fed.
Monta is how the billing is done and its on a per user basis

    • @southcoastev

My concern about the installation of dummy devices is if the manufacturer goes bust/changes the design and you can't get the live unit anymore. The government should introduce a universal standard for both the physical unit and also any communication/interface with the controller.
Large scale indoor EV installations should have additional regulations associated with them, either fire alerting, supression or separation.
I agree, I'm not a fan of top cable entry, even if the manufacturer claims a certain IP rating.

Great content and been following you since Artisan so the reference made me giggle.
Sometimes tho, the music can be a bit loud as it averages a lot higher than the vocal, it’s common on lots of channels but something to be aware of.

Mono audio means that both microphones are coming through at once, not that it’s coming through in both ears (he’s using a two transmitter to one receiver microphone set) If the microphones are recorded in stereo you can mute the person who isn’t talking, but if one person is breathing heavily and the other person is talking and you’ve recorded in mono, you cannot remove the heavy breather as the signals aren’t discrete, they’re merged.

The key part is actually doing audio editing in post, vs just recording the audio and cutting the video. Get one decent stereo mic at the camera for ambiance, and then lapels on each of the talent. Recording 4 audio channels is stupid cheap/easy now.
Too many channels think oh I just take this great stereo mic record it and I'm good to go. Stereo mics won't give great separation between two speakers unless they are really far apart. It can help a little bit but not usually.
The whole moving around bit is mitigated by centering the dialogue in the stereo space in post, maybe allow a little pan to place them in the space but unless the talent is yelling from off camera a hard pan L/R will always annoy people.

Car battery charging is over 90% efficient so there is little heat actually being dissipated at the charging location. I'd expect about 80% of the KWh going into a car ends up at the wheels unlike ICE vehicles where about 15% of the fuel (petrol/diesel) energy makes it to the wheels.

I'm not an Easee fanboy, but find the support from the UK office pretty reasonable. They are in trouble with authorities due to claiming to meet RCD standards which are designed for physical RCDs. The regulatory bodies just haven't caught up with electronic RCDs and the same could happen with many other charging products that also use electronic RCDs. Physical RCDs can't reset by themselves whereas electronic ones do etc. Can you imagine how the design would be compromised by having a physical reset switch?
I do think that this install is going to lead to complaints in the future - sharing a 60A lift supply with so many chargers really is poor. I faced the same situation with a 100A landlord supply which supplies a pool heater + other misc stuff. I would not have dreamed of accepting this and have gone through the pain of getting the DNO to quote for upgrading supply to 300A and the reason for why the government grant is so necessary. £500 per partially provisioned space and £850 for each fully provisioned space.
In terms of load balancing, the Optimizer (100A or 500A, single phase or three phase) can use their own proprietary RF to control ONE master, but if you have several circuits then all need to be on WiFi to communicate and I am not aware that load balancing communication beween optimizer and masters goes via the Easee cloud servers.

Great video as usual Cory. Was there any pushback from the tenants who had to park their cars elsewhere whilst you were doing the work considering majority weren't having an ev charger installed?

When we did it at mine I managed to get unanimous approval from other residents as they realised how good a deal the grant made it - ended up about £65 per nay for enablement work which future proofed the parking space. We agreed to do it in sections so cars could move to free spaces 👍
