The Norwegian / Icelandic electrician here! 👋 Cory, Thanks for spending the day with me. It was a lot of fun. Hope that we can repeat this... ☺ Just a note on the mistake on my part. The cables that needed to be rerouted were not the right cables mentioned in the video. I misread notes in the report and fixed right cables afterwards. 😅
Cool to take a look at my northern neighbours, NL here. Your wholesaler looks exactly the same as ours, with the scanning etc, ours is just not open 24/7. Your installs also look pretty much the same. Do you have 3 phases a lot in domestic properties aswel?
@@helgiheidars Cool, its mostly TT here. Country looks amazing aswell. Wanted to go this summer but the new ferryline from NL to Norway got cancelled :-(
If anyone is interseted, phase reversal would make a motor go backwards normally but nowadays everything over 5kW is controlled by a VFD and it doesn´t matter if you reverse the phases into the VFD. You would have to switch the phases going out of the VFD or change the settings in the VFD to change the direction of the motor.
Hi Cory, phase rotation - well yes. Many moons ago I was working on a farm slurry pump and yes you guessed it, the phase rotation was out of sync and - boom it blew instead of sucking. The result was not pretty and my boss and the farmer got covered, kept my job but only just !!!!
So strange, i was over at Artisan Electrics watching old videos and startet watching the episode where Cory "quit". Started reading comments and found my way to this video since im from Norway. So wierd that this video was dropped 1 hour ago.
omg, just got chills, you are fishing at Hinnavagen, I had a summer job over my O and A level years (about 40 years ago) with Norwegian Contractors who slip formed the rather impressive sloping structure in the back ground. Love Norway, beautiful place fab people
Nice day out on the tools. Imagine what would happen in a 24h self-service screwfix here 😮 the Norwegian one must be like a private members club to get access.
As a DIYer and looking from the outside in I do agree about wiring under floorboards fuel for the fire. I love cable trays and should be used in lofts so all cable above insulation. Tough if this is more expensive. What price safety. Kinetic switches should now be used in all rooms even the bathroom as I have done. Great video seeing how others work. I hope their tradesmen are better than ours.
Boom on the Visa issue, really happy for ya,absolutely quality video as always, from Artisan which are great as well,to watching you in what seems to be you in your element.Complete new way of watching a quality spark doing his stuff, look forward to the next video. All the best mate.
Changing the phases can be hazardous. I had a conversation about that today and he mentioned a solar company that tried to do the customer a favor by swapping the three phase to brown, black, grey. They had to pay ~10.000€ for the repairs to feeding systems etc.
If a motor starts spinning the other way round this can cause alot of damage. Usually the rotation is changed in a location with a seal here in The Netherlands.
@@jim575757 I prefer to switch the phases on the actual motor connections to maintain the proper phase sequence as far as possible in the installation. Using hybrid motor starters and frequency converters are really convenient though
Norway didn’t sell off their north seal oil and gas and so they invested and have one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world. That has trickled down to all aspects of Norwegian life. It’s fantastic.
@@jim575757i think european are too obsessed with renewables / clean energy without realizing that in order to achieve those, you are going to pollute other third world country and reaping fat benefits from it, famously nigeria where the pride of your country (shell) being doing its dirty works for decades.

Well done on the visa! I read today about someone trying to get a visa for their child, waited 2 years - no response - even when lawyers tried. Journalist intervened and mysteriously completed the next day!
I think your electrician said he couldnt believe we put cables under floorboards, why would that be considered a bad thing? Congratulations on happy wife sitch
maybe the heat generated by overloaded cables? maybe they trunk everything into walls/ceilings? maybe they know something we dont? 😂 seriously though, good question!
Really enjoying watching & learning from you Cory , I really like the plastic covers Idea , All the best to both of you getting back to the uk 🏴 ⚡️👊
I had tradify. And it seemed to indepth and complicated for what I needed. Maybe if i wasn't stuck in my ways of what I already use then i might have gave it more time.
This is totally not important hit you were half right about the large 3 phase fans used in industry settings. Get a phase out and it will run backward however the majority of dust extraction fans are centrifugal and will always extract. If they run in the wrong orientation the velocity will be significantly reduced (I’ve found typically 1/3rd of the velocity). Like I said, not important but the more you know.
If the tray is an exposed conductive part it requires earthing. If the tray is and extraneous conductive part it requires bonding. If the tray is neither of the above it requires neither earthing nor bonding.
In South Africa all wiring is conduited. My house has metal conduit earthed at the meter box. Seen many UK installs where the rodents eat the T&E in the roof space etc... Come on UK .. get with the program... not FlexiCon but rigid conduit when re-wiring.. and none of this capping malarkey LOL
Sometimes they are rotated on purpose, for example in apartment 1 you have 123, in apartment 2 you have 231, in 3 you have 312, and when the installations in the apartments are clones of each other, you end up with balanced phases. Obviously you keep the rotation correct. It doesn't make much sense in the input of a large distribution board though, unless the building has 3 or more large boards.
In the NL in domestic single-phase they apparently solve it by calculating housenemer modulo 3 and then the installer (grid supplier) knows which phase to connect in the particular house. Nice job and great video Cory. (I would use flexcon next time at 30:44 to protect the earth wire a little better).
Why would you put a C for a car charger? There is no motor or something to cause a big inrush current. Type B trips at 3 to 5x nominal. At c63A, it will never rush in 250 A for a charger.
It is the same for sockets, fitting B breakers will result in nuisance trips after a power cut or brownout when a bunch of switching supplies are plugged in. Unless your loop impedance is poor enough to require B, it is much better to just have C everywhere. In Finland the pre-made boards usually have a random assortment of B and C. If you are lucky they wired the cooker and sauna into the B16's and your sockets into a C16. Otherwise you will have nuisance trips.
Having watched a few NL spark videos I was surprised to see that the three phase usually seems to go into three double-pole RCDs in new boards, which then feed a group of MCBs each through L+N bus bars, rather than one or two four-pole RCDs with 3L+N bus bars to the MCBs. Also interesting to see that old Diazed fuse boards had a switch for each circuit after the fuse.
It must be camera angles mate, all is covered and photographed for their paperwork and I’ve double checked and looks fine. Had to be fabricated as it wasn’t possible to purchase there anymore
I thought I recognised the place. I get over there quite often. Surprised that you don't want to settle there, however it might be a bit too quiet for you and hinder your rise to Stardom 🙂. Keep spreading the electrical word for the world wide sparkies. 🙂
