I was there when they had the fight that broke them up. It was at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in LA. Ozomatli had opened for them and walked straight through the crowd and out the front door to play in the street. Rage was playing the most intensely charged set that I have ever witnessed. At one point Zach told the crowd that the next time a cop puts their racist hands on you, to put them in their grave. Tom got visibly angered by the comment and stepped over to Zach to have what looked like angry words while they both kept shaking their heads at each other. Toms last words to Zach before he turned around to play, was “Fuck you!” Then they played like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The entirety of General Admission became a mosh pit. The most epic shit I’ve ever seen. I was there at the DNC when they ran us off. I have seen them and Tool 30+ times collectively, and I’ve never seen anything like what happened that night. Hands down, best concert ever…

WTF... I grew up with Brad Wilk and he is the only band member you didn't profile in a bio?? So, born in Oregon where he lives now, Brad Wilk was raised in Woodland Hills California in an affluent hillside home bordering Mulholland drive. His parents were average people and he has an older brother named Steve. Brads first tattoo was of a lion's head on his shoulder and he had a drum set he played daily during his high school years. His idol was Neil Pert from Rush and Brad could play all his music beat for beat. He would accompany his older brother at friends parties and was considered calm and quiet. Eventually he broke out of his shell and formed a band called Rage Against the Machine. The band went on to make history as a global phenomenon fighting for the rights of the suppressed. Personally I could have toured with them as security and photographer, but chose to remain in the San Fernando Valley.
Thankfully got to see Rage live at Electric Factory in Philadelphia 1996. Being 30 and not greatest health having just came home 6 months in hospital I was no way going in the mosh pit. Still listening and rocking them almost 30 years later.

Now that I'm older and much open minded also going through life changing situations which left me broken and pissed. It got my listening too one of the few rock songs that i liked "killing in the name" and that got me going deep into RATM music. And wow. That way we can get the new people to vote for us while we tell the existing people that our opposition don’t care about our health bc they don’t obey our mandates!!!
You’ve really thought this through! Good job 👍🏼
@@jaredr991 you need professional help. Go see a therapist
The best band ever. I hope they work things out to continue to speak out against human rights violations. Love is the cure for hate.
Love is the cure for hate until someone disagrees with you
LMAO
Yes absolutely they were awesome, thier message resonates today 2022.
@@carlbowles1808 They are all trust fund kids that are about as edgy today as a butterknife
@@carlbowles1808 You're correct sir. The issues we've faced were what they saw coming.
People who speak their mind even if they put their careers on the line are truly courageous.. Also there were no details about the drummer...
At age 16 this band changed my life. It was the first time I truly questioned authority and my government
"No money was harmed" A sentence that makes me nauseous
Holy shizz!! Am I the only one who would like to see THAT collab??😳😲😁
Who paid you to make this comment

@@dcrewmomma I would love that collab! I bet it's lit.
Went and saw them last week in Cleveland... They remain timeless!
This band is like no other and deserves all my love and respect. I was once more blasting "Bullet in the head" this morning, yeah.
What i love about this channel is the transcript they leave. Its great if you are doing a report
Love a lot of Zack's solo and collaboration stuff, but he really shined in RATM and they are iconic.
Zach looks exactly like his dad holy shit
Well I look like my dad
A lot of people do
Love these guys!!
The Ghost of Tom Jones!!! Still rocking out to this jam going into 2024. As we continue to RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
You freaking haters going to hate all you want people still love this band. ✊✊
Thank u 4 "click-blocking" me from being trapped by this video. 😏
@Sean who r u talking to?
Suck it
I've loved RATM since their first record. I've even hung out with Tom backstage and had a great time with him.
They're still a bunch of millionaire communist hypocrites though.

We're Communists but our ticket prices are capitalistic. Great music but these guys are about as genuine as a $3 bill.
Can you tell me
thank you!!!! haha, u know! wait though....they are awful, it's the same two riffs.
Why is there no background story about the drummer?
That is what I came on here to say.
Not tragic enough, I guess.
Went to the Wu-tang / rage concert at the meadows music theater back in 97 and that shit was pure mayhem. I’d like to apologize to all the people I hit with pieces of the fence.
Yikes - if this guy thinks Rage Against the Machine is tragic don't tell him about Sublime.
You nailed it.
Or BADFINGER even more.
Great work, really enjoyed this video, instant sub
This band was/is a LEGEND till this day, I hope they come back to tour in 2024!!!
Had the background. And love your tell of the story. Thank you
I love RATM, there message was really on point, I also enjoy Zach's collabs with RTJ. If people haven't heard it they should. I sense a RTJ/RATM album in the future.
There is no band without a drummer....

Gosh I remember going to their concert when in college at the Rainbow room !!! Best band ever !!!
Thankfully got to see Rage live at Electric Factory in Philadelphia 1996. Being 30 and not greatest health having just came home 6 months in hospital I was no way going in the mosh pit. Still listening and rocking them almost 30 years later.
My top 10 Rage Against The Machine Songs: 10. Freedom 9. Bombtrack 8. Know Your Enemy 7. Sleep Now In The Fire 6. Bulls on Parade 5. Guerilla Radio 4. Bullet In The Head 3. People Of the Sun 2. Testify 1. Killing In The Name

Listen to "Maria", it's one of their best songs aswell.
When I was in the Marines 20 years ago, I was asked why I had a RATM poster hanging up in my room during an inspection. I simply said their music motivated me to do my job. Shout out Bravo Co 1st Tank Bn.
A history/culture lesson in every song........that band is SORELY MISSED
sure...
I’ll never forget seeing rage against the machine and tool on a side stage at a lollapalooza at fiddlers Green in Englewood Colorado. I think in the year 1993 or 1994. I was blown away by both of them.
I’ve met zack while at work last year… he’s been pretty cool with me ever since def a super cool guy and hope they do shows soon
I used to smoke out with Sindog❤️
And would let frontman from Cypress Hill

Totally awesome. A unique and rebellious band with a powerful message.

Oh lord I don’t know if I want to watch this because I love them so much and I don’t want to feel heartbroken
Rage against the machine turned into Rage for the machine
I've known about RATM since when i was a kid in the 90s(Killing in the Name song luv that song) but never really gave them a shot to listen to all their music. I was jus too much into my hip hop and R&B music. Hard rock/punk/metal wasn't my thing. Now that I'm older and much open minded also going through life changing situations which left me broken and pissed. It got my listening too one of the few rock songs that i liked "killing in the name" and that got me going deep into RATM music. And wow. I didn't realize how deep and political they were and so fitting their music is to the kind of person that i am.
I've became a truly devoted big time fan this year. I have a new found respect for them especially for Zach😅 but hey man, i guess it's Better late than never.
🤘🏼
Legends❤
Love this band since evil empire came out. when I was a kid in fifth grade. I'm lucky enough my mom didn't care what I listened to. And they were the first heavy metal I got to hear. Which was Bulls on parade I'll never forget that song.Never once thought to figure out, what they were like. I didn't know they had f***** up lives. But what about the drummer. How come nobody said anything about the drummer?????? Who is he or did he have nothing crazy happen to him so he wasn't mentioned.
I dunno why, but I teared up at the Cornell segment.
Great video !

Yeah the bands called Run The Jewels. RTJ4. Thats where zach is out-letting now. Check it out.

😳 So much hate against a band I thought everyone loves? I feel like I’m missing something...when did the hate start and why?
Mostly seen it comes from conservatives or folks who are just now realizing that they're a political band.
@@p1ysaucedo I am a Christian and I love their music. They speak against racism during a time when it wasn't popular, they're anti war, and anti murder no matter what your cause is. Who can't get behind that?
It started around 2016 when it became the "cool" thing to be a far right supporting bootlicker.
@@TheChuckfuc there's plenty unfortunately

Thank you for posting this history of rage against the machine. Killing In The Name Of is one of my favorite social protest songs. I didn't know of their history of being bullied. I'm a songwriter and working on my EP I'm finishing my fifth song this week. All my songs deal with social issues facing our nation and the world including racism and bullying. Can I send you a preview of some of the songs with my private SoundCloud links. I have all the backend things to do so I'm figuring releases for about 2 to 4 months except for bullying which I accidentally have a release date I can't remove. That one might have to come out Friday next week although I had tried to delay it. If you like rage against the machine as I know you do, I think you might like some of my songs. Peace, Leslie

I love there music, it's REAL, true to the core. I love there honesty... This is what it is and this is what the see, so why handle them so hard? What are you afraid of? The just make music
The message they put in their music is ultimately things that can be changed for the better and calling out the atrocities of our own governance
While Tom supported a group who killed 60000 people, yes I am sure they were worried about atrocities.

@JJ Graham lol or you're just too far right
@JJ Graham, I agree with you and Dominant31. We were blindsided with a lot of this music at an early time of our lives. But once you start to see the truths in real life, there’s no going back. They went from Raging Against The Machine, to be coming The Machine. Sad but true.
Lol RATM has been working for the democrats since 1992.
Love RAGE and Tom Morello! I've listened to his Podcast on audible at least 5 times and it helps give me a little hope in humanity
I was distracted so maybe I just missed them giving any background on the drummer Brad Wilk, or any talk about the members and their bands before forming RATM or even how they met outside of Zack and Timmy. All of that would seem important for this type video.
THEY MISSED OUT A LOT SHAME

As a Patriotic, Conservative American, I always loved Rage Against the Machine. I can separate politics from art.
Music is supposed to make you FEEL a certain way.
No love for Brad?! Let the drummer get some!
I like how they made the statement that "assassination is the same as being tried in a court of law", they let everyone know that they have no intention of ever being held accountable for their crimes.
This is not tragic.. this is legend! Hope their spirits are high and their minds in the right place when they finally get to play for their fans. RATM🙌🏽💯❤️

Rage against the machine: criticizes dictatorships and murders
Also Rage against the machine: praises Che Guevara
I feel like every band has a “tragic real-life story” video on RUclips
I can remember when Rage/Wu-Tang had a concert together… it was gold!! Wow that was a good time for hip-hop rock and funk all in one.

The tragic part is, they became a part of the machine.
