Dr. David will be covering 5 common reasons you can't bend your knee.
Many people suffering from knee pain lose motion in their knee. Sometimes it's from knee arthritis, a meniscus tear, a knee ligament injury, knee cartilage damage, and other times it's just plain old knee swelling.
We'll discuss what to do about it and answer questions live!

Probably the patella in my left leg is just above the knee joint which I think is the patella alta. I need treatment. In such a situation which doctor can I consult.??

I have watched many RUclips knees doctors show and explain how to fix but none of them can explain and demonstrate like you, your explaining so easy to understand and your demonstrate so easy to follow and I fixed both of my knees because of you doctor, thank you so much. I have live in pains for 3 months and every God damn doctor in Florida only subscribed medicine to help the pains but did not tell you what to do. Again, thank you so much for these videos and helping me get back on my feet. GREAT DOCTOR. GOD BLESS YOU.

Sorry you've been in pain for 3 months now...yes most doctors are trying to do their best with what they know. They usually know medications VERY well, so that's what they recommend.

I'm a 30 year old who has just been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis a month before my wedding, 2 months before long flights to and from our honeymoon. My range of motion in knee and hip is appalling, has been for 6 months, and no one is able to help me with exercises until June. All I have is RUclips and videos like yours. You are by far one of the most professional, compassionate and insightful experts I have ever seen. Thank you for doing this. It has been a huge help. I recently experienced knee pain following a 9 hour flight I was in business class, so had a great seat but the air pressure change is considerable. When I landed, I started limping and over the next three weeks it got worse. Could this be enough pressure to cause a meniscus issue or perhaps make a mild issue worse?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  Год назад +5

Hey @iamirish, so sorry to hear that you developed knee pain after your flight :-( it is not likely that you developed a new meniscus injury. It is possible however that your shin bone has shifted on your thigh bone and is not in the right alignment anymore. There are a few exercises that may be beneficial for this. I’m in pain medicine now but my knee feels stiff everyday and it clicks when I walk AND I’m walking with a limp. I am 53 and worked out when the injury initially occurred on that day. This just all started feb 25, 2023. I over did it on that day. The Orthopedic surgeon now wants to do an MRI on my back. No one is able to help me with the swelling and loss of motion.

Carlsbad Caverns - cool! I wrote a poem about my visit there many many years back. One knee slowly got to where standing for a time was uncomfortable. But then I fell at home and the leg was forced to bend more than I could have bent it and that really ignited pain. Your videos with exercises are really helping me - working on the glutes, slowly building in heel raises, and such. I always thought the knee problem was more or less cartilage - that knee has a lump to one side which I thought was cartilage. It started in my mid-60's. Thanks for those exercise suggestions.

Thank you Dr. David as always 🙏
This video is so timely for me.
I had a fall 3 days ago and tried to lift myself from the floor putting pressure on my left deformed knee.
Within an hour my knee became very swollen and stiff so I could not walk.
I am applying an Aurveda herbal paste to reduce the swelling and took Diaclofenec for the pain. The pain radiated upto my shin too.
I am much better now and able to walk a little with my walking stick.
With my multi joint deformity after 20yrs RA condition, this was a setback. I was making good progress this year, improved my knee joint mobility and am using the tips and exercises in your videos. Coincidentally after the fall i got relieved from the inflamation in my left hip area. Maybe the autoimmune cells attacking my hip rushed to the rescue of my injured knee. An RA response?🤔
I am doing your exercises to tighten my glutes to help my hip joint.
my Angel's must have inspired you to make this video just when I needed it most. Thank you Dr. David...you are a jewel.
Blessings to you and your family.🙌

Trouble bending knee. No arthritis. Solar panels gave me a flare up. Autoimmune mixed Undifferentiated disconnective tissue, lupus, severe muscle joint pain from immunizations, SJS-TENS medication reactions , many falls, and a severe trauma to my knee.
Left knee pain medial anterior and posterior bursitis
😊Tibial shift and how to heal a meniscus tear videoed helped immensely with pain but if I'm off my pain meds lupus meds and Prednisone I have debilitating pain and extremely limited ROM range of motion. If I'm on all my pain meds LUPUS, CNS, I have better range of motion but I have to rest ice compress elevate and exercise as tolerated.

Thank you for the advise. We follow your suggestions. I tore my meniscus in 2016. Workman's comp Dr sent me to back to work with a brace after an xray showed nothing. I kept working but my pain only became worse and I finally got an MRI which showed medical meniscus tear and osteoarthritis. I had surgery. They ended up removing 90% of the meniscus and removing material from the hard cartilage. This made my knee lose range of motion worse even after two separate 8 week programs of physical therapy. I have a strong tolerance for pain but I think works against me. Therapist cound not get my knee to gain range a motion. I even let 2 of them to try and push but the knee would not budge. Now my left knee feels like I have a miniscus tear and osteoarthritis as well but I don't want to get surgery out of fear of them making it worse. Knees hurt from standing still the most. I do food deliveries now because it's the only thing I can tolerate now. I do physical work on my ranch but at the end of they day I end up throbbing so bad that I lose sleep. I'm trying to use a stationary bike and see if I can smooth out my knees.

Hey Stefano! We are so sorry to hear about the difficult position your knee meniscus tear and osteoarthritis has put you in :-( A very important component in your recovery, aside from the exercises, will be strategically and methodically offloading your knee whenever it's possible. This might mean using a walker or a cane every now and then, or having a seat with more frequency as a way to take a break from being on your feet too much. Now, the exercises will be crucial in getting you better. Here is a playlist with several videos that could be useful to get started:

Didn't want a knee replacement 5 y ago. Lost weight and started strength training, not my knees) nothing wrong after a year, then pandemic comes and i let go. The last year after i fell backwards i woke up to a knee lock. Have been seeing fisio and medicine, i keep on watching your and other videos. I have started an exercise, sit on chair, heel on another chair in front of me and place a 3kg bag of rice on the knee. I'm stretching the ligaments and it feels like I'm winning.

I had a welding table collapse on me the edge of the heavy table hit both of my knees in the 90s. Dr.Schneeburger pulled out cartridge and smoothed it over. Now 2021 I experienced unable to bend. My bone hurt all the way down to my foot. I took myself off NSAIDs, realized they were causing more pain. I am taking garlic and turmeric. I am having body fevers at night for weeks. I am able to bend it now. I am still having body sweats. My bone is feeling better. I think I had bone infection.

Thank you for the brilliant video Never heard anyone else talk about knee locking , this happened to me whilst stretching & had to get hospitalized. I at the same time had severe sciatica - such a bad &sad state of affairs, 😢wish I had known how to fix the knee alignment then but even the osteopath wasn't able to help as it happened in his practice the second time( when I made a side ways movement) the pain 20/10.only strong opioids helped. Now I don't have a lot of pain,am able to bend /straighten my knee but I think the sciatic is still there no pain but numbness under foot in the 2small toes & in the lateral aspect of calf. Any suggestions how to overcome this?

Very cool that you get relief with the athletic tape. That means that something about changing the pressures helps your right knee. There's a good chance then that you have a muscle imbalance and addressing it would help your knee.

I can straighten my right knee ok but bending back much less than 90 hurts after being on it for a few hours. Looks like some slight swelling also. About 12 years ago I hyper extended the knee but nothing was torn just stretched and I went through therapy and the knee tightened up fine and has been fine until February.

Im a 32 yr old female i was diagnosed when i was 2. The meds ive taken helped at the time but never stopped the progression of the disease/ damage. Currently im dealing with a knee issue. My right knee wont bend more than (90 degrees? Idk) when im sitting in a chair and my feet are flat on floor.when I need to bend it further it wont allow it and its insanely painful. The inside side hurts and then i get a jabbing pain in the top of my knee. Like my knee cap is being pushed into muscle idk thats just what it feels like. I got stuck in bed bcause i couldnt bend it. Its very annoying and frustrating and painful.

Kirti here. I am 75. I have chronic arthritis. For nearly a year my knees have become stiff and I can’t bend them. I walk with tracking sticks. I walk like a robot.
