Goodluck, and get back to slaying!
EDIT: there are wires in the controller on the left side. If you’re opening with a knife, be careful not to cut those. Comments suggest buying a tool on Amazon.
UPDATE: August 2023, I have had to redo this process one time since making the video, but my controller is still working fine as of writing this. Hope it works for all of you too!

Still works in 2024 great video thank you 🙏
It’s both of mine LB and RB ha
Thanks for the video!!! LB on my Elite 2 was acting up, I didn’t use rubbing alcohol though…. I just blew through it with compressed air and Bam no issues lol. I had it for almost 2 years and this was my first and last problem 👍
@@prevail14I wish it was my first and last problem

this actually worked… To my absolute astonishment it actually worked. You saved me so much money and frustration. He needs a hero medal from the president.
I accept
Lol
Trust me its not gone I’ve went through five elite controller all the same issue and I did this trick but it does come back if you use the bottom frequently
Update: March 20, 2023
This still does work even though at first I thought it didn’t work. After putting rubbing alcohol on the bumper, I clicked on it multiple times as said but my LB was still not working properly. I’m using it after like 6 hours and now it works perfectly. If it doesn’t work at first, relax and let the rubbing alcohol fully dry. Hope this helps

Holy shxt this saved my life. I've already changed one via warranty but the right bumper stopped working just after a month and I've been living with it for almost a year until I find this. Absolutely killing it!
not much effort and beats having to buy a new controller. Glad it worked for you! 🙌🏻
Just tried, hopefully it works!

How long did you have the controller before you gave it in to its warranty
Just followed your guide and cleaned my bumpers and gave a good clean around my buttons and all. This corrected my almost non responsive left bumper and it works beautifully now. Thank you!
I did it with 70% and it still worked! Thank u ma dude
same
Dude I cannot thank you enough, I’d already been through 1 series 2. You saved me like 150 bucks ❤️
Happy to help people save $$$
Same! I wasn't even planning on buying another series 2, since the bumper button issue wasn't fixed like Microsoft claimed, and ended up getting one with my series X.
I was about to give up on mine and revert to the OG controller.
Lol shoe doc reference
@@turnup4777it’s not a shoe doc reference lmfao that’s how much the controller costs 😭😭😭
@@BustaDG I know but I thought it was funny 😭
The warranty expired a week before my bumper stopped working. I was losing my mind trying to basically punch it to get it to work. Finally decided to try to fix it myself with this video. I used 70%, pressed RB for like 5 minutes and sprayed some canned air on it and pressed it for another couple minutes. Instantly works. Thank you
Got you
For what it’s worth, you may want to check if your credit card has “extended warranty coverage.” More cards offer it these days, and it offers a sort of warranty coverage for 1 year beyond manufacturer warranty (technically they just reimburse you when you replace it). I usually find a use for it once a year.
😮
Thank you so much for confirming 70% works!
@@Mattserpiececan you use rubbing alcohol?
You saved the day dude... it's the first time I've ever had issues with the bumpers on an Elite... much appreciated, this fixed it right up!
Short, precise, informative and most of all, it works! Dude you're a legend, saving people loadsa money/time ❤ thank you 👍
appreciate it!
Thank you for this video! You saved the day! I've been through one Elite controller already because of a right bumper issue where it worked only 10% of the time. Now both are fixed 🥳
Awesome! Glad it worked!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
You've become a hero of Elden Ring players everywhere. The disassembly was really helpful. I also rotated the circular plastic piece in the button housing by 90 degrees, and I think that helped a lot.
That was always my goal in life 🫡
Ha. Yeah that’s what I was playing when right button went.
Insane. Was done in 5mins. My RB was so damn bad and feels like new now. Thank you so much!

Just did this on an elite 2 that had a left bumper that wouldn’t register about 30% of the time. I haven’t tested it extensively yet, but at the moment it appears to have completely fixed the problem. Thanks for the video!
you have an update on it
@@akakarva5285 It has only been a week but it is working correctly still.
UPDATE: I did this three months ago and the elite controller is still working as good as new. Saved me from buying a new controller.
I had the same exact issue out of nowhere, same bumper too, I tried putting paper under the plastic part to thicken it a little, didn't do a thing, then I did this like a couple of times in a row and it was making my lb stuck, but after like 30 minutes the button is like brand new and I can continue air rolling in rocket league, thank god!
Still works 2 months later
Should have tried this before spending time trying to wedge paper between the button or other methods. This one worked best.
Excellent work! Just got a Elite Series 2 Core off eBay for a pretty good price. Right bumper was the only slight problem and now it works perfectly. Thanks man!
glad it worked!
Absolutely PHENOMENAL method. I was honestly not trustworthy in this video due to there being so many out here like this. But I can say with 100% certainty it worked!
Just follow the video and it should work. Thanks a lot!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thsnk you for the video. You saved me another $85. My first controller shoulder bumpers died and it was out of warranty so i opted for their $85 replacement.
The replacement left bumper went out and it doesn't show a warranty for the replacement. Your video saved me from having to buy a replacement for the replacement.
I ended up using 70% alcohol and still did the job appreciate the content

Thank you! My right bumper started acting up yesterday. Had to press it hard for it to register. Used fast drying contact cleaner spray today and now it seems to be good as new.
Awesome! Glad it worked! That’s what my bumper was doing also. It’s the worst
this was so helpful! I was so disappointed that the bumper crapped out again. this took like 20 mins and its working perfectly! Thank you!
Holy cow this helped so much! I ended up folding the plastic trifold so there would be a bit more leverage for the bumper to lift entirely off the button itself. Now I can ping to a location in apex without saying I spotted an enemy 😂
Dude....folding the plastic just saved me.....ty for this comment
Awesome! Glad I could help 👍

Lmaooooo, broooo same. After pining so many times for enemies I thought I wore down the bumper bc of it 😅😅, I will try this technique soon and hopefully it works 😊

Glad to hear it!!
Update: 3 months later, my bumper is still working perfectly! 🙌🏻
does this fix responsiveness in the bumper as well? my left and right bumpers take like a really hard press to register the button do you have any solutions like this for the paddle buttons to be more responsive?
@@brianjenkins2247 yes, that's what was happening to me and this fixed it!
@@Mattserpiece it's looking like an improvement but not quite a full one may have to do it a second time. Used to need like 7 presses to get now it takes 2-3 so better but still not consistent
So what is the initial cause of the issue?
Hi, I live in England and in every shop I have been in they don’t sell the achol I also probably won’t get sold if they do due to age so is there anything that could be used instead of the achol?
This genuinely worked man, thank you so much!
You’re incredible, this fix saved me buying a whole new controller. Might have cracked my faceplate a little but that’s way better than spending $200 on a whole new controller lmao
lol definitely better than dropping all that money
Lol, my faceplate got some weird warping so decided to purchase a replacement off of ebay for $15.
Short, detailed, & to the point. Fixed my RB button like a charm 👍👍 Thank you!!
The iFixit tool kit came in handy here, I have seen people do this and leave pry marks on the plastic. This worked well though, my son's controller button wasnt working and works again after following these steps. Thank you. You just saved us from buying a new controller.
Love it! Definitely better than buying a new one!
Havent used my elite for months and found this video and fixed my LB. I didnt have any Rubbing alcohol so used duster, then wedged my knife in between the LB button and the white button, then pressed multiple times. Seems to have done the job!!!
Thank you!
This controller was poorly made. It felt good for about 6 months of hard use.
Mines lasted 2 years and just like a month ago started having problems so
Mines 7 years and still absolutely mint. Best controller I’ve ever touched
@@Frost.x7xit hasn’t been out for 7 years, how is this possible? Also you are most likely not competitive. This controller unlike normal ones are MADE to be competitive controllers, what’s funny is it breaks if you are hard on it or tap it fast. How can you be competitive if you have to play slow and light?
Mines 57 years no issues so..
Xbox controllers are actually very well made. Especially the elite, feels like a tank. Not sure what you're talking about.
BestBuy Geek Squad said can't fix it, Tried this & works great now!!! Appreciate you sharing this!
Take it back and prove it to em haha
Great video. Just a tip for anyone else who has tried this fix and it DID NOT work, there are tiny brackets just under the boxes connected to the white buttons that sometimes get bent down. I had to use a butter knife to gently push up on the bottom of the box and it fixed it. Again, this is for those of us who can’t fix it with the alcohol.
i appreciate it, the alcohol helped but didn't fix my problem but i did what you said and pushed it up with a knife and that made my bumper work consistently
good tip!
cool. Perhaps I'll try this next (before I attempt replacing the switch). You wouldn't by chance have a picture of this would you?
Can you do me a huge favor and show where
What boxes do you mesn
Thank you!!! I usually don’t leave comments, but you deserve the praise and the sub! We all know these controllers are expensive, so it sucks when stuff like bumper issues or stick drift occur. It happened to me once before but I had warranty so I just sent it back, but it happened again and I don’t have warranty anymore so I just saw your vid and gave it a shot and it freaking works now! Don’t need to buy a new one (:
Have a great day bro!
ayy appreciate it. I'm glad it worked!
this helps with stick drift?
@@mat.b. Not necessarily, it’s worth a shot though if you already plan on opening it up if you don’t have warranty on it. Just clean with 90%+ alcohol after pulling out the analog and let it dry completely before powering up. I would watch a video on it before winging it though.
But it fixed my bumper issues for sure, still no issues with that.
@@Flickshot664 yeah, sprtized some contact cleaner in there while i was working on it just to test but doubt it did anything for drift, happy enough CC immediately fixed the bumpers after all this time
I haven't been able to use my RB for months. I was using another controller. I was thinking about taking it to an electrical repair shop we have here in town. I thought I'd try to look it up to see if it was fixable on my own before I did take it there. You saved me a good amount of money for an easy fix. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
What happened? Did it work?
@@MonkPain yeah. A lot of time these type of tutorials are hit and miss and some are straight up lies. This one is legit though and it really did fix my controller
@@Skylight2423 I'll try it later then, thanks for the feedback.
@@MonkPain I did have to do it a couple times. You should put the alcohol on and let it dry and then do it again. That's what I had to do. It worked for a bit and then stopped again. So I did it like two or three times before putting the controller back together and I haven't had an issues with it again
Thank you bro this is the only vid that works on my controller thanks a lot
Was just about to get mine repaired before I saw this. Can’t believe it was such a simple fix. Huge thanks!
Glad it worked for you!
where do you get it repaired?
Thank you for this video. You saved me from buying a whole new controller. My bumper wasn’t responding when I tapped it at times and couldn’t find a solution until I seen this video. Now I’m back in action. I’m recommending this video to anyone who go thru this issue.
How was some alcohol able to fix a register issue of the right bumper? I dont understand, can someone please explain
I’m always extremely skeptical on things like this because it just never works for me but God it did actually work. I’m so surprised and thankful that I didn’t have to get it repaired completely.
Works wonderfully even with 70% isopropyl alcohol but it just takes a bit longer to evaporate (I used a blow dryer on the coldest setting to speed it up, thank you very much 😊

Thank you! Nervous about prying the faceplate off, but everything worked out well.
RB broken during Elden Ring was the worst.
Yeah this happened to me when I was playing overwatch the thing is I didn’t have to clean it my rb button was like 1 millimeter out of place and I had to press it with a bit of force for it to work I didn’t even figure it out until I reopened it and took a closer look and I seen that it was very slightly out of place so I gently put a flat head screwdriver under the button and pushed it up
Happening to me now does it really work? The alcohol? I have everything just want to know how it fixes it ? I dont want to disassemble for nothing yk ? Please helo
Does it work ?^ help*
@@GA-ky3lj I just cleaned it and test that everything was moving well. Then waited for alcohol to dry before turning it on.
I removed the little plastic sleeves with some tweezers, cleaned with the rubbing alcohol, hit the button a few times to make sure the solution was getting in and sounded good. Turned it upside down hoping it would help drain any excess liquid, I think I took a dry q-tip or paper towel to get any extra solution out and waited to dry before I turned anything on.
The faceplate just clips back on. I think I broke one of the tabs taking it off, but still feels solid back together.
Sorry for the long reply. I remember I had a lot of anxiety doing the repair, but it ended up working well.

I’ve been doing this but for some reason it wasn’t as effective anymore. I clicked it while I was putting the alcohol on like you said and now it’s perfect. Crazy how that one little extra step made a huge difference!
Absolute legend! Thank you so much! my girlfriend bought me it as a Christmas present and I haven’t been using it as much because the right bumper wasn’t working and I felt terrible and I finally found a video that genuinely works. Thank you so much!!
This is incredibly helpful. Most tutorial videos didn't do anything for me, this completely solved the problem.
This fixed it, and took me about 5-10 minutes! Thank you so much. I wasn’t going to invest more money for a controller to break quickly again. Appreciate the help :)

Thanks soo much works now
Awesome! Glad it worked for you!
This worked for me. THanks. Quick note to all who try, the alcohol has to dry completely. I had to wait 20 min or so but after that it was perfect.
Awesome video, made opening the controller very easy! I used an old smallish-kitchen knife with blue tape over the edge of the blade.
My controller didn’t become completely fixed by the alcohol alone, seems the switch wore out.
WHAT WORKED was stuffing a small piece of cotton swab under the bumper (in the largest opening there) to provide a little extra spring to lift the bumper. The failure to press seemed to occur when the button wasn’t fully released, despite the tactile click of the release occurring.
Innovative solution, love it!
I can't believe this actually worked! Thank you!
Worked for me, but really be careful when removing if you remove the bumper tabs, I broke one off. But if you follow the guide, you apparently don't need to remove them.
thank you so much i literally thought i was about to break my controller at first but im so happy now

So I did this and it worked great for 5 minutes and now my bumper isn’t responding at all! Don’t do it!
Mine is still goin strong 😬
Just did it last night, mine didn't work right away. After continuing to blow hot air to get all the alcohol dried while continually pressing the bumpers and even doing my best to flatten out the depressions in the plastic everything is working so far 🤞

It may work for a little but it never works for me in the long term
You can also invert the plastic piece, which may help it last longer as well.
