Almost 50 years ago, sitting around with my one of my brothers and two of my sisters in our teens; listening to albums from Cat Stevens, Jackson Browne, Joni Mitchell, and John Prine...set the foundation for the man I grew up to be. Still deeply touched by his music. Today is the day before Easter...i find myself wishing Jesus would raise this man from the grave.

I still suspect there’s more, though. I was just considering that phenomenon & how I really just finally ‘got’ a couple of songs I’ve been listening to since the 70s. Right after I was watching House of Strombo & to my amazement he talks about just that! He talks about first holding & savoring a song like an exquisite secret ‘like I know something you don’t know’ while he enjoys a new song before he ever plays it for anyone. Then to my amazement he went on to explain how thrilled he is that as he continues telling stories about songs - that more & more of us start to get the punchline. Beautiful. ❤️

Music from a Lovely Human being who had so much to give thru his words and music. Awesome John, sure, your in Heaven. Blessings and Heartfelt Gratitude for all these years of happiness you gave us. Thank You for Posting these Gems. Out of this world.
Covid took him and we must learn to live with just his soul, his poetry and keeping those other musicians (his partners), especially Jason Wilbur, who are having to bear John's departure..
I listen to his music a lot. To me it has a great message and if you sit and ponder the wording and stories, it has so much feeling and truth, it’s got lessons we can learn from. I miss you John
Sometimes when I have something in my eye and I can't get it out...I'll put on this storyteller of old or another and it'll only take a song or 2 before tears cleanse my eye. Works every time. Harry Chapin is a good one too.
I was sitting in the 4th row in the pit. I don't usually splurge for great seats, but I'm soooooo glad I did. It was by far one of my most memorable concerts ever and i've been going to 12 concerts a year since 1995.
Thank you for uploading. A wonderful talent was John but more importantly a wonderful human who empathised with all the pain and suffering of our world. An example to us all in trying to understand each other. Long may his spirit survive.
Thanks for uploading this concert. I know John's in a better place, but he sure is missed by a lot of people. Love and hugs to Fiona, his sons, his brothers, and his wonderful band!
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps...how did he express how wonderfully people feel so universally? So many awesome lines. How the hell does a person work all day, and have nothing to say?
I first found John Prine in a stack of albums while babysitting during high school. He was sitting on a haystack, and being a rock fan I don't know what drew me to him...but I've loved his songwriting ever since. I love his concerts, and got to see him in Raleigh, NC when he was already "ancient." Such a treasure!
One of the greatest songwriters ever , had a ticket for the show in Amsterdam and never got to see him. COVID took the show and him away. I love all kinds of music as long as the artist pours everything into it but I always thought that the most difficult was to write a simple universal song like him and people like Townes van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen and a few others could do. When the lyrics are so good if the music is complex it’s difficult to focus on the importance of what they’re really saying

R.C. Schuster, Outer Banks of N.C. What a treasure. Seen John back in the 80s out in La. and been lestening to him every scence he passed. So talanted.
One of the handful of times I was fortunate enough to have the see John play was around like 1990 when my wife, Michelle and I went to Chicago to see the Grateful Dead play one of the last shows of their summer tour at the Rosemont Horizon (now the Allstate Arena). Day after, looking for something to do, we see that John Prine is playing downtown at some dinner theater, Circa 21 Dinner Theater I think??? No tickets available for the two- night show so we leave my name and number of our hotel with this really nice box-office girl who happened to have been at the Dead show the night before... It was kind of a long shot waiting for tickets to materialize but the phone rang the afternoon before the show. It's he girl from the box office and she has some questions for me, like "where were you Saturday night" I said "Chicago"... What did you do? " Saw the Grateful Dead" - She apparently had other ticketless people hoping for a miracle ticket. She told us our tix would be at will-call and that we were "guests of John Prine"! and "Be sure to thank John and Al Bunetta***". It was a great show and we got to hang with John and give him some nice Iowa outdoor herbal from my backyard. Al Bunetta was a really nice guy and funny, in a gruff sort of way - I'm sure he was a great manager - John must have thought so because I think he was his manager up until he died in 2015. During the show we sat with John's doctor and his wife, who were also really interesting and friendly people. Wow - I hadn't thought about that trip for years. I had eaten like 1/2 gram of mushrooms at the Dead show and Michelle had somehow ingested 3.5 and we had ended up with a bunch of tour-heads sleeping all over our room. One of many memorable trips on the Grateful Dead's summer tour which was kind of a thing myself and most of my friends looked forward to every year. This year had the additional bonus of ending with seeing and smoking with one of the greatest songwriters and performers ever! We had been planning to see John play in St. Louis Born too late, died too soon... ***Al Bunetta: Check out billboard magazine article about Al Bunetta www.billboard.com/music/music-news/al-bunetta-longtime-manager-of-john-prine-dies-at-72-6509492/ I knew he was John's manager for years but didn't realize it was 40 plus years AND that Al was also co-founder of Oh Boy Records. And he was Steve Goodman's manager as well! Looking back, I didn't realize how fortunate I was to have been able to see all of these amazing people play. There are a few great ones left and a lot of amazing young people carrying on. Go see some live music!
A wonderful performance by a genius artist completely intruded on and ruined by obnoxious advertisements after (and even DURING) every song. JP's legacy deserves better.
I swear more ads have been added since the last time I viewed this. At least put them on between songs not in the middle. I'm not sure you can listen to one complete song without interruption. This medium is my soul means of maintaining some sanity in these awful times. My wife passed away April 10 and I have been alone since. Prisoners claim solitary confinement is cruel and unusual punishment, I now see why. We all need human contact, even if it is bad. I guess because after all we are all human, even though some humans ain't human. Thank you John, you figured that out decades before me. Stay safe everyone and have faith.

Loved the Golden Bear... I was mistaken for JP at the Troubadour in 73.. I went to Tower records on Sunset to by his albums.. love his tone and lyrics..sad days now
golden bear was sweet , saw , jerry , linda , kingfish , elvin bishop , and stood in the foyer to watch the Bryds as a kid
It just blows my mind to see the number of comments on these John Prine videos. Wow. What a legend.
Hold on a second... ( I am trying to pick up the puzzle pieces of my own mind) off the floor..SMILE..I LOVED YOUR COMMENT ❤
@@margaretstoner4701 l liked your comment as well. Is that a song...because it should be 🤗
Music from a Lovely Human being who had so much to give thru his words and music. Awesome John, sure, your in Heaven. Blessings and Heartfelt Gratitude for all these years of happiness you gave us. Thank You for Posting these Gems. Out of this world.
Gitan Rajapakse Amen!🙏🙏🙏
Yeah John. You don't need any stinkin' flag decal to get into heaven.
You've always been there.
That's the secret.
The man is an American treasure and a genius songwriter! I miss him so much!
Thank you for posting. A great American, a great human. Brought joy and tears with his words and music. Long live John Prine!
Yes he did
Sometimes when I have something in my eye and I can't get it out...I'll put on this storyteller of old or another and it'll only take a song or 2 before tears cleanse my eye. Works every time. Harry Chapin is a good one too.
Loving all of his songs. Bravo! I bet he’s now singing among angels.
Wonderful concert listening to John Prine - and as always good to watch Pat McLaughlin wiggling inside the music when playing the mandolin.
Agreed. He seemed to be the one that enjoyed it the most. I know they wrote a song or two together. This is just lovely.
I was sitting in the 4th row in the pit. I don't usually splurge for great seats, but I'm soooooo glad I did. It was by far one of my most memorable concerts ever and i've been going to 12 concerts a year since 1995.
This was the very best version of Lake Marie ever. My favorite JP song. Magic.
...not to mention IRON ORE BETTY !!!
May he rest in peace. One of the greatest songwriters rt up there with Kris, Willie, etc. Love him⚘
Memories
Windows rolled up & my mind rolled down. Just one of the many ways to enjoy the genius that is JP.
Long Monday is one of his many many best.
That David Jakes on bass sure puts John's tempo straight every time!
Thank you for uploading. A wonderful talent was John but more importantly a wonderful human who empathised with all the pain and suffering of our world. An example to us all in trying to understand each other. Long may his spirit survive.
John Prine is Life… A fantastic voyage 👍. Saw him Alb , NM 2017 . Thanks John. Bought the concert t-shirt.. Best damn shirt i own .😎
Thanks for uploading this concert. I know John's in a better place, but he sure is missed by a lot of people. Love and hugs to Fiona, his sons, his brothers, and his wonderful band!
Just posting to keep the memory alive, 💚 from Ireland , his second home. Sad I'll never see him again in concert.
These songs will live forever.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps...how did he express how wonderfully people feel so universally? So many awesome lines. How the hell does a person work all day, and have nothing to say?
he's got big wings...........trust me....honorable is a forgotten trait
Didn't expect Connor Oberst. Got the shivers when he came out.
Me always a fan see him in his glory at a bar every one happy to be there
One of the greatest songwriters ever , had a ticket for the show in Amsterdam and never got to see him.
Who would have thought, real musicians playing real instruments singing real songs. I think this is what we used to call talent
What we used to call music.
WHAT A HORRIBLE LOSS!!! THIS MAN GAVE SO MANY OF US GREAT STORIES & HUMOR!! HE WILL BE SORELY MISSED!!!
Yes,I am sore about our loss of him but we gain from him and we pass it on,long live BBKing
So many of us loved him.............

R.C. Schuster, Outer Banks of N.C. What a treasure. Seen John back in the 80s out in La. and been lestening to him every scence he passed. So talanted.
John brings us back to our roots. Love it.
We love and miss you John!
I'll never be over it. When he died it was devastating.
Same here. Every day.
Sure was !
Saw him at UMSL Touhill (doc) theatre with Cindy, we loved each that night
The only one that can make me laugh n cry in the same song....
Louis
Born too late, died too soon...

I knew he was John's manager for years but didn't realize it was 40 plus years AND that Al was also co-founder of Oh Boy Records.
And he was Steve Goodman's manager as well!
Looking back, I didn't realize how fortunate I was to have been able to see all of these amazing people play.
There are a few great ones left and a lot of amazing young people carrying on.
Go see some live music!
It's a crooked piece of time. Great story, man. ❤
❤ how can u not love this
Now this music is pure medicine . And boy we need it . vote ballot down blue and save everything we hold dear
Wow. I was with til...oh no...never mind
Please leave politics out of this. Johns music is for everyone.
@@Jkizzle202 no politics , hate them . PASS HR1 , voting rights are NOT Politics . Rebuking hateful seditionists traitors not politics
been rediscovering his music. can't believe I lost contact with his music. sorry john.
A terrific writer and performer.
HELLO IN THERE is the saddest song every written!
A wonderful performance by a genius artist completely intruded on and ruined by obnoxious advertisements after (and even DURING) every song. JP's legacy deserves better.
I am finally going to learn a couple of john prines..
love john's muxic and words
So damn good, makes me weep.😢
This is such a great capture. The quality, the intimacy and the song list. Thanks so much for sharing.
I love you JP
i remember everything
Who could not love John Prine..
one of the best!
goose bumps, tears and joy........
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. RUclips has gotten ridiculous with ads - install uBlock Origin in your browser and the ads stop.
@@wirenutt57 How much does it cost?
@@barbaramcdonough1155 I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It is so hard to lose someone close. Your whole life has this gaping hole in it and in the first months, you think it will be that way forever. I dont think it usually stays the same. I think we will always, always miss them but find a way to go on living and loving, still with that hike inside, but not so raw, maybe not quite as gaping...you will be in my thoughts and prayers, if thats ok...
@@barbaramcdonough1155 it's free.
@@wirenutt57 Thank you so much for the uBlock Origin tip. There have been more ads throughout this wonderful 2014 L.A. Greek Theatre program than I've ever experienced before. Mow even an ad for "Ad Remover" @ $40/year.

Come a long way buddy. Rest in Peace.❤️🌹
Damn I miss him.
RIP to a friend who never knew me!
Awesome concert!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us!!
I was there that night.
So good.
The 7 people who dislike this video, I'll pray for you!
Dylan...i believe Mr.Prine would of forgave the fact they have no taste in a certain music that can only be relatable cause we have common sense. Mr.Prine is a peacemaker like us. Smile...❤
Well my guess is those 7 have no joy at all in their lives..RIP JOHN we miss you
I like John Prine A LOT and this particular video a lot. And it is thanks to people like John Prine who inspire freedom for people to like or dislike what they want.
Thank you JP for letting me be me
Have all his songs in my playlist
Hot Damn..
Thx!
That’s the Conor that played #LandlockedBlues. I haven’t yet been able to follow #ConerOberst from #BrightEyes but there’s no mistaking that voice. I’m almost positive I heard him on am OST but the one I was pretty sure it’s from doesn’t list it & the 2nd choice doesn’t either. Perhaps it wasn’t credited on the OST but I know that’s where I heard it & why I’ve not yet been able to f/u. Good job & what an honor to have played WITH John Prine. How cool is that??! I see you’ve found success - I recall that song from SO long ago. You didn’t go unnoticed. ❤️
I love John Prine so much I bought the new Jukebox singles box set and I don't even own a record player.
That black face Tele is soo beautiful my. Breath is short!
