Here's how I discovered him. Came home from work on a Saturday while the family was out. Hit the couch and turned on the TV expecting to nap. I stumbled on Austin City Limits and this was on. Got his Lost Dogs CD the next day, and more after. Took the family to see him at the Boulder Theater. Iconic voice, songwriter, and player with such wit, cleverness and a sense of humor. ruclips.net/video/gNxuo_HdBhY/видео.html
I first heard of him as I walked into a jail cell and an inmate was sitting on the floor playing a guitar, and singing Sam Stone that was 1977 and I was 21 now I'm 67 and know almost every word to every song he has written.
I fell in love with John's music the first time I heard it. I immediately put meeting him on my bucket list. Sadly, there was no time for that to happen. When he was ill, I completely focused on his health reports. I have never been starstruck before or since, but I wept when he passed. It was some time before I could listen to his music again. In fact, it is still a bit difficult. He touched me deeply. Thank you, John. I hope you are singing for all the souls in heaven. Now, that would be an awesome reward for them. R.I. P.
True for me also. About the only celebrity death I ever cried openly about. Something about that combination of wise touching human poetry, great humor, musicality

The day I heard one of my best friends died, another friend called and said simply "John died" and we cried together. Loved him since 1971.
My dad knew he was dying, one of my last pictures of him being lucid was when he was listening to my John Prine collection on my phone and sitting in the California sun.

The word great is thrown around to often. He was a great man. Part of what made him so great is that he did not understand his greatness, which allowed him to speak to us ordinary people. I just finished Todd Snider's book. He speaks of entertaining stories of his relationship with many legends. He makes it very clear that Mr. Prine was in a class all by himself by the way he treated ordinary people. He also spoke very highly of Kris Kristofferson, which is neat since he is the one who made it happen for John Prine.
My wife and I were fortunate to see John shortly before his passing. I'll be forever grateful. Can't help but feel that life on earth is slightly less loving, less joyful without John but at least we have his music to carry forward.
This show is fantastic! John’s music is such a comfort to me. I envision JP standing by peaceful waters, smoking a cigarette that’s nine miles long, and drinking a vodka and ginger ale. Next to him is my dear husband whom I lost to Covid 4 months later. They are both sporting illegal smiles. I will love them both forever and a day ♥️
Saw him live in Manitiwoc. Snuck up on stage prior to the concert. He was huddled with two others in the corner of the stage, as if in prayer. I turned around, and walked back off. He performed for shy of three hours, ....never took a break. AMAZING CONCERT!
He's in Heaven drinking a vodka ginger ale, smoking a cigarette nine miles long, and kissing the girls on the tilt-a-whirl!😆 Man he is the best storytelling songwriter ever! Never had to sell his soul either like Bob Dylan! He's he's up there with the real Commander and Chief, jamming in God's band and running him ragged I would imagine! 🤣✌️🤟 Rest in peace John!, We all miss you down here!, see you soon!!!
John is so dearly missed. This is why. There is nothing more moving and beautiful than JP live. All of our lives were enriched by his life, and diminished by his passing.
Ya gotta know: if you never traveled through the state of Kentucky, you'll not fully understand the reason for this artistic genius. You get in those back hills and bottoms and you will find true Paradise. John Prine had it goin on for sure 5 miles away from wherever he is!
I discovered John Prine back in the seventies and have been a fan every since then. Thanks so very much for sharing your talents with us while you were here John! You will always be here through your music and your words.
I feel like one of the most fortunate men ever and the luckiest for coming across and buying John's very first album. I'm pretty sure I've heard every song he has ever recorded and released over these 50 odd years you can never get enough. A beautiful man!
And Jason Wilber holding it all together--I wish he would have played more harmonica! Such a beautiful musician whatever he plays. He & Prine were priceless together.
Saw him first in 1990 in Greenville SC and last in 2018 at the Ryman. Man, John could work a crowd, just like he did in this one. I've been in a band for years, and we play Lake Marie, Illegal Smile, and a few other tunes from time-to-time. I always look forward to playing/singing a Prine tune when I see it on the setlist. I wish John was still with us so I could present him with my very own lifetime achievement award. He provided my wife and I with years of enjoyment. Among the greatest souvenirs we have collected are memories of seeing John perform and sharing his music with us.
SOUVENIRS of priceless quality and He was more than a real door prize. I could handle the void left from his passing so much less painfully with an illegal smile. But like he pointed out, the medicines are less effective since medical establishments married insurance companies and both beholding to GOV LEO interests more than humane decency.
Somewhere smoking a cigarette 9 miles long With all the things that go between a woman and a man, i know my friend and hero John Prine really truly understands❤❤❤
Just 3yrs ago, man his voice was strong again. kudos to the sound engineer who made it sound like a jam but was putting the correct instruments forward at the right time. And they got JP's voice out there too.
Love John Prine. John knew he was vocally challenged but it was the genius of his songwriting and the honesty of his delivery that was his gift. Shout out to the wonderful musicians that performed with John. You Rocked!
Knew Pat Mclaughlin from my childhood...that's him what ever the instrument or venue...saw him many times in my own home doing that same Bebop...he played my wedding back in 1979... a favorite memory of mine and he introduced me to Prine back in the seventies before he ever knew Mr Prine himself... 1973 or so, stopped by the record store on my way home from college. John's first album was on the store's record player. Bought every subsequent album since. RIP John.

I sadly only discovered his music only a few year’s ago he came to Australia wa lucky enough to see him and Tyler Childers fantastic concerts had tickets to see him again before COVID cancelled the concert unfortunately took him away from AU’s but has left us all a lot of joyous music forever , enjoy paradise JP
You can just see how much Pat loved the music, I love watching him jam out, he knew he was part of something great. John Prine, may your music live on for generations, may your music, wisdom and humor touch others as it has mine.
I first became acquainted with John’s artistry in 1970.being from a musical family and a young guitarist and singer of many many songs.the first one I learned was grandpa was a carpenter.it changed my life and my musical profile if I may be so bold. But the impact was profound and remains so,to this day in 2022.I’m well into the senior years now and still take his songs to heart.every single one of them.I saw John on stage a couple times the first in Vancouver BC in 1971 or 72.a very impactful and heartfelt writer and performer. What you get with John on stage is just straight goods.A mastery of word smithing and the ability to grasp a crowd and keep them in his hand.Massaging the goodness and real life in all of us.You’re in the good place now John.I hope to be in your presence again.
Best concert I have ever seen (Wilmington, Delaware). John and his band stayed for an extended encore. He always had such a connection with his audience. One of the greats. His words hit home with everyone. Cannot believe he is gone. His music will always be with us.
The Best of the Best!!! Someone needs to write a book with all his lyrics arranged to fit! I grew up with John and his music; Feel like I knew him personally. Ain’t it funny how time slips away? We never know what we have until it’s gone.
I was fortunate to see John in 2014 for the first and only time. I received the tix for a birthday present from my two sons who found out I was a fan from some FB videos of John that I shared. They blew me away with that gift and was shocked they paid that close of attention to their old man. One of the greatest concerts I’ve ever been to and it’s the worlds loss that John ain’t in it..
Wonderful concert. Many old favourites, but some brilliant songs that I haven't heard before. Gosh, it's such a terrible pity that the great man is gone from us, but thank God, we still have this wonderful music to appreciate. RIP John. Gerry Farry.
Played with John a long time and man was I jealous being a Mando / guitar player myself! Imagine the stories he has just riding on the bus with John? Hope he wrote the good ones down!
@@brianbolger6313 Be kind it's not that hard. John brought Peace and love to every song, every concert and every member of the audience. He was a good, kind man. Take a deep breath and hold it in long enough to permanently absorb some of John's love, kindness and peace.
I missed John Prine when he performed in New Haven in 2009 and have regretted it ever since. His music is a national treasure that will outlive us all. RIP, John Prine. You are sorely missed!
Been listen’n to John Prone for 51 years and I haven’t heard a musician of his caliber …. He’s not only a genius musician but a master of the human condition …… and he will never be equaled in artistic expression ….. long live John Prine …. 🙏

I have just discovered the music of John Prine, thanks to a subscription on You Tube. GREAT! Her voice, both deep and sweet, will brighten my day, when I'm down, her voice will put me back on my feet! RIP
The first present my girlfriend , now wife , bought me , 40 something years ago , was a John Prine Album. We were both fortunate to see him shortly before he passed. A true legend
I love all kinds of music. I didn’t know about John Prine until recently. I have tried to listen to all of his songs on RUclips. It made me sad to find out he was already gone. Very few artists have moved me to tears with talent. Those that have it, have it and it is known immediately that they have it.
Great show! I saw him back in the 1970's at a place called the Exit/In in Nashville Tennessee. Just him and his guitar a one man show! And he was good 👍👍👍
Glad you appreciate what Pat brings...he also cowrote most of The Tree Of Forgiveness and I Remember Everything... knowing Pat I can almost pick out the lines he contributed.dont know Prine at all so I could be over reaching
Moved to Boynton Bch. Fl 1973 met a nice couple who became my best friends. They introduced me to John Prine I was hooked he's the Dylan of my life. Love you John .
My dream job was to play Mando and guitar in John's "band". Maybe we'll pick one in heaven? Love you John. PS - always finding something new "Long Monday" is a new tear jerker classic for me! What a privilege to have seen you at the Tower and Philly Folk Fest. Best singer songwriter mailman ever!
😊 From Speed of the Sound of loneliness, Paradise, Jesus the missing years, Wish you all the best, Egg and daughter night and to the favorite Sunmers End. I love John Prine because when he gets to Heaven hes gonna have a Vodka and Ginger ale and smoke a cigarette nine miles long a quote from his song When I get to Heaven.....I love the fact tha he's the most rare poet with the soul of a special man who I hope to meet when it's my time. I learned of him through my pappa who I love and miss so much as he passed away 12 years ago. Now I do what my dad always wanted me to keep doing is to play my guitar as I have a beautiful new guitar and am learning to play covers of his music. I have Paradise down so far and look forward to learning many more.
Saw John Prine at Frederik Meijer Gardens years ago. I went there with my daughter, Rita. It was an outdoor concert and we ran into her father and his new wife... He takes her out for dinner and mine's are new clothes... that's the way that the world goes round you're up for Monday the next year down it's a happy enchilada🥴

Best concert I have ever seen (Wilmington, Delaware). John and his band stayed for an extended encore. He always had such a connection with his audience. One of the greats. His words hit home with everyone. Cannot believe he is gone. His music will always be with us.
John Prine music takes me home. What an awesome writer.
My first time finding this; it's incredible. I so miss John, Jason and Dave together. 100% gorgeous.
The Best of the Best!!!
Someone needs to write a book with all his lyrics arranged to fit!
I grew up with John and his music; Feel like I knew him personally.
Ain’t it funny how time slips away? We never know what we have until it’s gone.
I love this guy he’s my go to guy when ever I need a pick up Fifty years now May 30 2023
I was fortunate to see John in 2014 for the first and only time.
"Hello in There" just makes me cry like a baby..... and I''m 70,,,, thank God for video...!!!
Great Concert... Thank you John... Rest in peace, God Bless John Prine..
Wonderful concert. Many old favourites, but some brilliant songs that I haven't heard before. Gosh, it's such a terrible pity that the great man is gone from us, but thank God, we still have this wonderful music to appreciate. RIP John. Gerry Farry.
Jason Wilbur is great, pure class.
Amazing player, classy and very tactful. He was so skilled but he never overshadowed the lyrics, his playing was perfect for John.
Played with John a long time and man was I jealous being a Mando / guitar player myself! Imagine the stories he has just riding on the bus with John? Hope he wrote the good ones down!
Evrytime i hear him play dark shadows are gone. My heart begin to sing and his music lift me higher. Feel strong and happy. Praise-the-lord!
Praise life. Praise John. Don't do a good man down by association with yr bronze age murder cult.
@@brianbolger6313 Be kind it's not that hard. John brought Peace and love to every song, every concert and every member of the audience. He was a good, kind man. Take a deep breath
and hold it in long enough to permanently absorb some of John's love, kindness and peace.
I came to Prine far too late in life. His magic with lyrics and simple but impactful music make him someone I could listen to forever

One of the Great American storytellers - hi is missed! RIP John
I am always amazed each time I really listen to the words, what a genius in make things tie together, just in awe. Great words and music.
Love this man and his guitar

Great show! I saw him back in the 1970's at a place called the Exit/In in Nashville Tennessee. Just him and his guitar a one man show! And he was good 👍👍👍

.
Love John and love SF, one of the Planet's amazing spaces.
I am greatful for the celebration of love and connection. What a testimony to the power of goodness to lift us all.
Can't help noticing the band plays without a drummer, I love it and it must be quite rare.
Beautiful music.❤
To the 🇳🇱. Glad you discovered him. So many songs. Explore Sam stone hello in there and 6 o'clock news.
