I feel exactly the same, and I read so many comments from others who also feel like a good, close friend has tragically died too soon. Such a kind man, such a brilliant songwriter and musician...i have spent the last couple months looking up more concerts and relusteningxto his wonderful music. I was lucky to live near Chicago from 1975 to 1979. Started listening and seeing him frequently in clubs and little folk concerts in 1975. He has been a major part in the soundtrack of my life since then . .. i have lived a musically blessed life in so many ways. I will always be sad that this COVID virus took him away from us in early 2020. None of those of us who loved him were ready to let him go... yet we had to. I cant even imagine the depth of grief of his family and close, close friends...
Johns passing hit me as if I lost a life long friend. Never before did the passing of any entertainer affect me like this. I actually cry sometimes listening to his music. His music has been part of my life since 1982, and will be till the day comes when I'm reunited with my friends and family on the other side. The first John Prine song I ever heard was Paradise, thanks John....Peace
Dear John, you had all of us in the palm of you hand when you played Toronto's Riverboat in 1971. You were shocked we all knew your lyrics & sung along. Now, all these decades later, you've left us after Covid complicated your Cancer-weakened health in 2020. 4 years later, those whose lives you impacted through your music & lyrics are grateful to have vinyl & CDs to buoy sagging spirits or just to give a smile. We will always love you, handsome Johnny. *I noticed that Fiona moved to FLA, and life has been severely impacted by Hurrucane Helene. I think your soul & spirit was watching over them & kept harm to life & limb at bay.
Just started listening to this fellow. Very accomplished and talented. Very easy to listen for hours. He must have been a down to earth person. This is all our loss. Just know he made a lot of people happy. How many people can do that. RIP. John
Saw John in concert, but never got to meet him. I've never been do bummed by the passing of someone who was not a close personal friend! However it felt like he was. I too have been binge listening since his passing!
AWESOME JOHN YOU ARE THE BEST IM SOME HAPPY YOU QUIT THE POST OFFICE!!! GOD BLESS YOU MY GOOD FRIEND YOU LEFT THIS EARTH A LEGEND AND NOW YOUR A LEGEND IN HEAVEN!!! REST IN PEACE JOHN PRINE!!!
I only saw John Prine once, in 2003 when the war with Iraq was being cooked up. I was hoping to hear "Flag Decal," but told myself not to go in with expectations, just take what you get. He opened with "Flag Decal." It was a quiet show, he was humble, did two encores if I remember right. Leon Redbone opened for him - was surprisingly good, also very humble. It was one of the best shows I ever went to. When I heard he was on a ventilator I pretty much knew his prospects were not good, but had a weak hope. He had a good life. We all could do so well. We count our blessings.
RUclips is just the best for keeping John Prine alive for all of us..Happy Thanksgiving..we are VERY thankful for John's wonderful music and lyrics like no other ! John , Enjoy that 9 mile long cigarette & vodka & ginger ale..you earned all your great time in heaven !! We will all be up there with you before you know it !!

I as well am so sad over this. I have been on a John Prime marathon for 3 days now. All I see is he was even more Special than I thought. And that was pretty special. Such a kind and compassionate soul, master storyteller, great musician. I. miss him so much ,R.I.P. John Prime .There's some great musicians in heaven so happy to see you and get down with you😇
It was a big hit to have John Prine be taken by Covid. I saw him a number of times over the years and only met him thanks to the meets and greats after the shows. He seemed like such a kind loving person who really appreciated his fans. He will be missed. Thanks to who posted this show.
Just so very Awesome!! Something about the eternal condition of us all streams right thru him...and everyone playing with him have no choice but to become part of that stream as well.
The first song I heard from him was Sam Stone. At the time I had a habit and a lot of my friends were coming back from Vietnam strung out this song rang very true to us !
I am very sad that I did not get to see John Prine perform but I did get to see Lyle Lovett (in Cardiff, supporting Mark Knopfler) so to me it's lovely to see them singing together here. Wish I could have seen both....
Great artists! So sad, and such a great loss. I love everything about John Prine, unfortunately I never got a chance to see him perform. Thank you for posting!!
The loss of John Prine is a hard blow. We're lucky there are recordings like this. Three favorites of mine, but the first time I've seen JDG (looking good) in short hair!
Great Post after being Saddened by Johns passing I'm sure Angels are Singing ! Goodness Grace Happiness and good Health ! Great Goodness ! Thanks again
Thank you very much for posting this show, I had not seen this before, I’ve seen John Prine several times at the Strawberry Music Festival in Calif . We appreciate you sharing this with us fans missing our favorite songwriter and troubadour. He was a generous man with his time with his fans.
I kinda woulda mentioned Marty Stuart as well. Philip Donnelly, great friend of John, all the way to the end , there was only a few months between their passing , rest easy guys....well maybe not too easy..... I guess there be some raucous fun too. 🙏🙏❤️❤️
Daphne Randall it’s sad that he’s gone but he left a great legacy. I loved how he almost crossed over into Classic Rock, just check out how Saddle In The Rain builds up and ends, more Rock than country, yet he goes full-on country ballad with Sam Stone and Unwed Fathers, and Philip Donnelly’s guitar solos too, he’s a showman in his own right. Very underrated in my opinion.
He was the last of the acoustic players like Loudon wainwright they started out when I was just 17 years old and there gone .Prine was a true genius .one red rose was my favorite song .
9:05 I believe I can say that no guitar player ever had less technique than you see on display here. Goes to show what technique can get you - and what it can't.
It's the heart and natural talent, not the technique, that connects with the listener. Technique can only create the illusion of talent, like a copy of the Mona Lisa.

Tony Newman on drums and Percy Robinson on Pedal Steel
Had to be Marty with all that hair.
Rich Diana Rachel Peer puts him to shame single handily keeping aqua net in business. 😀
Phillip Donnelly (rip) “The Clontarf Cowboy “
Martin Nolan on keyboard
Who was the set of legs with the angelic voice?
Lyle and Marty were the kings of hair back in them days

Marty Stuart as well, on mandolin. Anybody know who the chick is on bass?
Sure glad you didn't choke on that gum, John. Love ya.

His name is John Hagan. Lyle mentions it three times in the course of the video.
Who is the guitarist playing with Jimmy Dale Gilmore? The guy is amazing!

Tom Gray of the Seldom Sceen.
How old was John in this video?
22:35 wearing headphones. My ears left for Texas.
Wait. That's Marty Stuart!
No Jimmie dale Gilmore? But you promised.
