    Each injector is actually programmed into the computer to each corresponding cylinder, so they do absolutely have to go back in the same place. There is a correction factor (IMA code) stamped in each injector solenoid that changes how accurately the computer fires each injector. Just fyi to anyone else attempting this job!

    I talked to a lot of people here at Brabus and they all said the same thing: why would you want larger Injectors? The right way to go would be more fuel pressure. I think that’s why no company offers larger injectors because it doesn’t make any sense. Even if you want 400+ hp that’s totally doable with the stock injectors.

    My dad told me to remove one of the injectors on our CDI because the copper seal was leaking. Somehow we didn't notice the leak in time and the entire of the thread of the bolt was covered in that black gunk. I gave up on the bolt because it didn't want to move and I didn't want to break that bolt. My dad barely got it out then it came to the injector. I had to hold a giant pry bar, trying to lift it up, while my dad used a hammer to free the injector. Was quite the job but we did it in the end with no broken bolts. The injector had ~1cm of pure black tar around it.

    Its worth cleaning the injector seats while they are out, a circle of fine abrasive paper superglued to the end of a plastic rod the same size as the injector works well. a little spot of grease on the end to pick up the swarf & drop it down the injector hole a few gentle turns cleans the seat ready for the new seal washer.

    The Bosh Service here in Germany said to me, that this Test isn‘t good for Piezo Injectors. They have testes Piezo Injectors which failed by this Test, but they were totally perfect. So if you have an Piezo Injector, you have to Check the selective quantity corrector with an Computer with your OBD Port. And if that says an injector is bad, it is bad! It‘s easyer to test, and the results are much safer and more correctly :)

    • @thefrs8022
      @thefrs8022 5 лет назад

      These injectors are not piezo, but anyway quantity correction can be checked with star and it's a good test to do. I have no clue why they asked Alex to do this test because they should anyway swap out the internals and fix the leakage and the quantity correction.

    • @martinigamer
      @martinigamer 5 лет назад

      Thef Rs Yes you‘re right, but if you have Piezo injectors by your car, don‘t do that test. It‘s more difficult/complicated as checking with your Computer the selectiv quantity Correction, and it‘s less correct as the Test with the Computer. If you have no Piezo Injectors, that Test is really good :) and sorry, i thought i had Piezo Injectors, but i‘m not an expert on Mercedes, i‘m more the BMW Fanboy :D But as you‘ve said, why he‘s checking that on his car, i don‘t know🙄

    I don’t know if you are aware of that but injector bolt should be replaced every time when used. Reason is that the material of bolt is made to shrink when hot. This is also reason for black death. Bolt will worn out and releases the pressure on copper seal.
    When you install new injector bolt then you have to be extra sure that the hole bottom of thread is SUPER clean. There is a coolant channel near it and if thread bottom is not clean, there is a 50\50 change to force crack into the head.
    There is more things to check while installimg injectors. :)

    I know you know this Alex but I’ve got to 6 minutes in and you haven’t mentioned fuel injection deviation quantities that are monitored by the ECU. In modern common rail diesels, you can monitor the fuel injection deviation quantifies as the ECU will reduce fuelling to compensate for one or more over fuelling injectors although the method you show here is the definitive test. Deviation quantities of +/- 3 mg/stroke.
    Example data below:
    Cyl. 1 Injection Quantity Deviation: -1.75 mg/stroke
    Cyl. 2 Injection Quantity Deviation: -1.66 mg/stroke
    Cyl. 3 Injection Quantity Deviation: -1.28 mg/stroke
    Cyl. 4 Injection Quantity Deviation: 4.69 mg/stroke
    The first 3 injectors on this Fiat/Opel/Vauxhall/Saab/Alfa Romeo Z19DTH engine are reduced to compensate for cylinder 4. This imbalance will result in a shuddering engine, the vibrations will have their own fun on your engine mounts etc...
    Have also seen the same information on my old bulletproof M57D30TÜ2.
    Great video as always Alex.

  • @heinzkot360
    @heinzkot360 5 лет назад +1

    to be honest: the test you show is pretty much the same in the mercedes dealership shops (exept for a little bit more professional equipment :D ) and your result is pretty much about perfect ... if you had an om651 you would have trouble with diesel spilling out of your tiny tubes after about 1 maybe 2 seconds :D ... but in this case your injectors are like brand new in terms of inner leakage ;)
    you mentioned the injectors might have been replaced at some point ... but these engines (OM646 / OM647 / OM648) have the most reliable injectors of the big engine planet ;)
    Just like the OM611/OM612/... these injectors don`t have to deal with stupid presure of 2000 bar and more so they just don`t have that much wear about time.
    My OM646 does have the first set of injectors that came with the car out the factory and it spooled almost 300tkm (186411,358 miles) wich is pretty much in germany :D they now start to get a bit old but i just give them to "Bosch" and they rebuild them. After that they are like brand new for very little money !
    And after i`ve blamed you in the last injector Video for not treating the injectors right after you get them out the engine i still have to say what mercedes says and all mechanics in germany know:
    injectors should not leak their diesel in any case because any air bubble that will be in there COULD (i dont say will) cause damage to it when it gets connected and the presure forces the internals to sit in their seal"position" ... as u might know there is a small needle inside the injector wich will be pulled to the top when the valve is supposed to open for the injecting process. this needle has to get back in place after that and does not like be thrown into place without diesel in between the sealing surfaces ;)
    plz don`t mind my writing im pretty tired
    thanks for your content i do enjoy it !

    Hang on there, those injectors are coded, each has a code printed on top, this is stored in the ecu, the ecu knows the flow rate from the code.. If they're boring em out.. How will the ecu know the flow? Whoever is remapping it better be good.
    The e400/420 cdi in w211 guise was "born dead" , because MB didn't consider offending it as a T model.. Customers weren't happy, they wanted a quick wagon and didn't get it.

    • @thefrs8022
      @thefrs8022 5 лет назад +1

      the code is basically just a correction amount to the flow rate. The new injectors will have a new flow rate that will have to be remapped manually and also new codes that will have to be programmed with star diag.

    The black death puts the shits up me with my OM642. I will be doing my injector seats in the near future.

    Alex, I love your videos, glad to see the CDI again! I just thought I'd let you know that Skillshare customer service is horrible. I cancelled after my 3 month trial and they STILL charged me for a full year premium subscription. There is NO phone number to contact only Email, and the more I research it this is literally a VERY common problem. The only way people get out of the subscription is to order a new debit/credit card. I just thought I would let you know. I wouldn't support a company that treats people like that but it's yours to do with what you will.

    English is not my native lng, so I may have the wrong terminology. Here in Bulgaria, when the diesel injectors fail, people give them for refurbishing/rebuilding, which includes replacing the sprayers (part if the injector that sprays the diesel through it). I think they can replace components inside the injector, so it pumos more cc of diesel, while keeping the same injector body, and it screws back in. Maybe there is a more powerful diesel engines, which use the same size injectors with higher fuel flow capacity. Nit only drom Mercedes, car manufacturers use Siemens, Bosh, and other brands injectors, so there must be a way. I know about many diesel cars, with remapped ECU, and replaced injectors for more power.

    I thought it was critical they go back in the same cyl ?. There is a barcode on the top of each injector which is a Compensation code. This code is input into the ECU calibration so the ECU can meter each injector precisely. At least thats the case on my OM651 2.2d.

    Buddy, this is simple AF. I have modified om613 and om648 engines up to 440hp on my account. You get ~300hp from healthy om648 witht cat delete, proper software and big intercooler, Stock turbocharger, stock injectors, stock hp pump, manifolds etc. To get to 400hp range you with big turbo, not some hybrid crap, I recommend Borg Warner s300v, bosch cp3 pump from om628, big intercooler for example modified iveco Blackstone, c30amg injectors- but I recommend custom built injectors made out of c30 Amg injector cores, swirl flaps delete, and exhaust manifold. Add properly done software and you're done. It's really simple, no rocket science

    With DIESEL its pressure fuel pump pressure because MOST turbo DIESEL run on high pressure fuel pumps hope this helps change your high pressure fuel pump to more powerful uprated ect and poss injectors

  • @VladoT

    I recommend adding an inline fuel pump (low pressure side) because if the high pressure fuel pump starves for fuel and tries to vacuum up the fuel from the low pressure side it becomes unstable and it will be very difficult to tune properly.

      What Logic is behind IT? Valves, pistons yes but injectors?

    • @brycebalke859
      @brycebalke859 5 лет назад +1

      Gregor Unglaube Because the injectors are piezoelectric. Meaning when a current is applied to the injector, the piezoelectric crystals expand just enough to allow the pintle to spray just enough fuel for any given amount of time as long as the current is still applied. This precise measurement of how far the pintle opens is controlled by the crystals in each injector which is never perfectly measured from injector to injector. Therefore they must be coded so the CDI control unit or engine control unit knows how the injectors will act.

    • @jimmyaber5920
      @jimmyaber5920 5 лет назад +1

      @@GunitEngage the onjector manufacturing used to require a lot of injectors be scrapped or adjusted to get flow rates within acceptable range. With later HPCR electric injectors they found the way to cheap out. Measure flow rate and mark that on injector as a code. Enter code into engine control module so its opening time curve is adjusted to that injector flow rate. There is wiggle room since the ECM adapts for injector wear but the compensation range isn't that wide.

  • @manowaari

    Be interested to know how similar those injector bodies are to the ones used in an Audi V6 TDI bet both are bosch with different caps.
    I'm surprised it's taken some work to find someone to improve the nozzles as I know the older Merc scene has insane diesels with the OM606 capable of running over 500hp with a custom IP and nozzles.
