It doesn't mean it can't be done in US. 1.9 tdi is very popular and there is a ton of custom parts and modding info available. Can't say the same about cdi. 400hp 1.9tdi will have very little stock parts, so we'll be talking about building powerful engine BASED on 1.9tdi. What we're doing here is adding more power to stock motor. I can build 600whp om648 but internally it'll be completely different than stock. So you're using it more as a BASE.

None of them would survive in a country without a speed limit. These highly tuned engines are usually good for a quick run and then they´ll have to cool down.... NIce engines, cool builds but usually not "vollgasfest" (full-throttle-steady). Apart from that: You are absolutely right...
@Legitstreetcars Both those guys calmly chopping up the front cover, etc. A thing if beauty. My only comment would be to put a shorter serpentine belt on it. The one replacement pulley was much smaller, and it looked like the tensioner was bottoming out.

Gents, another awesome installment. 'Can't wait until it hits the dyno. I will stand by 300 hp and 600 lb/ft of torque numbers when the build began a few months ago. The tranny will be living on borrowed time though without further "hardening".
We once had a similar case, we used a forklift as a tool to pull the injector and lifted the car and used it as a puller. The bitch came out but it wasn’t a pretty face to look at.

These are some of the best engines around. I have been developing a stand alone ECU for them to be able to unleash their full potential for engine swaps and tuning.
I'd recommend picking up a right angle die grinder and putting a swivel fitting on it. Its a lot easier to work with and manipulate when cutting/grinding things. Never know when you need to get it into some awful spot to cut something.
When that harbor freight grinder stops working replace the power cord and you are good to go I've been working with mine for 4 years on home and car projects worth the money
My C220 CDI could take only 20 hp with chip tuning from 150 hp stock to 170 hp . I wouldn’t mess with mine since it’s a small engine , but good job on the E320 CDI . All Mercedes engines are firm and stable .
thank you for instuctions. just did this to my E320 cdi wagon, for preparations to lots more power (and for some reliability issues) but it needed some more work than you showed in the video. mainly for the belt rerouting. but worked in the end. now i miss only a turbo for my build and i have a nice powerfull daily driver
Cut a dryer vent cover hole in the side of the building or the door. Get some rubber hose and put it on your exhaust when you need to start a car. Use the vent to push the exhaust outside. This way you don't lose the heat in the shop or poison your self. You need to use the dryer vent to stop rodents from getting in your shop.
Geraldo Marra I have the 2.7 5 cylinder and 2.148 4 cylinder baby sisters of this 3.2 cdi and they both sound amazing in my 2 vans. But I have nice custom exhausts on both.
If you have a lot build up “black death” you can soak it with hot water. Let the water with a soft jet run over the carbon and you will see it will come loose. In Belgium i seen the problem a lot (working by MB dealership) we always manage on this way to work easier after cleaning the carbon. 👍🏻
I’m really impressed with this. I really want a Mercedes turbo diesel now. Looks like it gets better mpg than the gasoline engines, it’s a luxury vehicle, plus the available torque makes it a premium GT car.

Its shows just how wrong the north american market has been with regards to these 3l diesel engines. We are still 20yrs behind the rest of the tuning world.
This is awesome! So lucky for you to have a local guy with knowledge to help out. Only have a tune on my CDI so far but it's helped immensely. Side note, you need the MB rtv mini applicator gun! Makes putting on rtv so much easier than dealing with half dried up tubes.

Let me know when you're in San Diego, I think you'll want to check out my diesel car. It's pretty quick as well. Last time on the dyno it was 361hp and 574 lb ft and I'm expecting a little better next time as well.

Not a bas idea. Now his 320cdi has a Darkside Development upgrade turbo but maybe a custom manifold,with Biturbo and Hybrid sandwich like the newest Mercedes. A better porting on the heads and so on. I'm not in to that rolling coal but maybe installing a better Katalysator, DPF and potentially a SCR system and map the car to run clean and efficient. I'll Stillthink 400hp is possible with those systems on it.

That fitting that you used the Vise Grips on looks like a spline drive. They do make sockets for them but I haven't seen any at Sears or tool stores unless special ordered.
Since this is a daily driver, I would like to see you tune it for fuel mileage like you did with your Vette if possible, in addition to maximizing the power. If you do this , many may think I am crazy for suggesting but I would like to know how this impacts the emissions. Love the work on the CDI.
Great video. I'm currently in the process of replacing the oil cooler and seals of the shitty OM642 of my GL320 CDI. Hoping EGR delete and PCV valve reroute away from the intake can help bulletproof this Mercedes diesel. Also read suggestions to remove engine top and bottom covers to let the engine breathe more. It would be great if you two could do a video on bulletproofing the OM642.

Please add methanol injection befor the dyno. It will lower EGT's and add power. Also please consider nitrous oxide ;-)
