Suhr make’s a great guitar. The neck on mine is like buttered glass and the fretwork is the best I’ve seen on any guitar. Definitely gonna have to have a Aura for sure.
Absolutely incredible stuff! As a PRS owner for several years, I look forward to increasing collection as soon as I can figure out how to increase my bank account. Please keep up the great work! My only suggestion would be that you come up an acoustic line that goes along with your S2 Electric line.
Reb Beach plays Suhr! Given that, the company is always on my mind when I think about guitars. I'm not anywhere near the type of player Reb is, but he's the best and plays nothing but the best! I play a bit of drums, but Reb was the one who inspired me to pick up the guitar. He's the bomb!
On any level? That's complete nonsense. I've played medicocre Suhr guitars, I've played good ones. I've played bad Fender's, I've played incredible ones, etc. Any company can make great guitars provided that they use the right materials and put in sufficient effort with regard to fretwork, setup, finishes, and all the rest. It's just that Suhr only offer high-end guitars that are out of reach for a lot of players, whereas other companies make a wider range of instruments covering different price points.
Umm John Suhr use to work in the Fender Custom shop, so I doubt he has any more knowledge or secret sauce than the other Fender Master Builders like Dale Wilson. Paul Waller, Jason Smith.,Yuriy Shishkov. Suhr does make great guitars, but so does the Fender Custom shop and of course with Fender it's actually a real Strat or Tele.. Same with the Gibson Custom shop...They build phenomenal guitars and ya don't get a real Les Paul buying a Suhr copy.. Of course there's no reason you can't own guitars from all three builders... You can't have too many guitars.
John Page also makes his own guitars and he co-founded the Fender Custom Shop. He also allows budget versions of his designs to be made in Japan - which are far better than equivalent priced Fenders [well branded Fenders at least- jury is still out on them being genuine]. I still think Suhr and Page to name a few have a massive advantage over the custom shop in that they aren't trying to hold onto some bullshit legacy that ceased to exist beyond 1965 [You could stretch it to 1970 I guess as George Fullerton was still there until then]. As such they can make guitars with refinements / improvements not available to Fender and so on. I don't consider any Fender produced after Leo Fender sold the business to be a real strat or a real tele. As for Gibson's, I wouldn't piss on any Les Paul that didn't come from Kalamazoo. Heritage guitars have more Gibson DNA than what Gibson sell these days. It's like people calling the Veyron and so on Bugatti's - they are Volkswagen's people. You can buy a name but you can't change the past.
People arent allowed to play NAMM display guitars because dealers usually buy all display items from most makers and dont want scratches or dings etc. The ones people are allowed to play are ones makers really dont care if they get jacked up by someone noodling on em, cuz they are not the exact guitar a dealer is buying . Suhr, Anderson, etc the guitars on display are for sale..
right ...he is really smart too. i can find great fenders and gibsons that i love... but his are sweet too. and he knows so much about amps and his business. r.e.s.p.e.c.t.
Charlie Nuzzo When a “clone” or “copy” of an original model improves on every aspect and is better made and plays vastly superior to the original, what does that say about the model being “cloned”?
RicardoDiazHimself reinvent the wheel would be to create an instrument with completely new features (no strings, no pick ups, etc, etc), but we are talking about design. It is the same with Chinese vehicules, that's one of the reason why they are cheaper. BTW, great great guitars, with no designers.
Селим Тополь you’d be surprised how hard it is too come up with new designs/shapes, especially when you have to make sure they will sell, you know since it is a business and all.
FrankThaThird totally agree with you, but it is a challenger and the are a lot of professional guys that can do it, especially when this is not the cheaper guitar in the market. As a guitar lover (I am not guitarist) I would love to see something new as others manufacturers have done.
The namm show is not a guitar center. Go to a Suhr dealer to try guitars. Namm show is to show dealers a new product. They can try them just asking. Last year a super expensive Ernie ball guitar was stolen at the show. You don't want that with $8k guitars
I don't understand why Shur is so confident about showing off their copied designs from fender. The only original design they came up with are their goofy headstocks. Don't get me wrong they make great guitars but the way the use the word "classic" really gets on my nerves.
RicardoDiazHimself those are fender's classics not theirs and they only have a 20yr old history. Yes every brand does them but other brands don't have like exact design copies and with their Moto on IMPROVING guitar design and quality on companies having original design and history, I just think they are getting away with a lot here. Hey Joey Landreth plays them so they are great guitars but still something about them just gets on my nerves.
Suhr is not saying they are THEIR classics. They're saying its a "classic" guitar design. Does Schecter, ESP, Anderson, etc etc etc get on your nerves too?
RicardoDiazHimself dude I don't think ur getting the concept here. They produce EXACT same design copies and sell em. How would you feel if someone else was selling ur designs and calling em better? Do you get it? ESP, IBANEZ, SCHECTERS and other super start brands don't do that and have greater history.
Schecters and ESP make the EXACT design. Search: ESP vintage plus or Snapper. Schecter Traditional, or the sultan, or the wembley. Also: Greater history? John Suhr started building guitars at the same time that Tom Anderson at the end of the 70s/early 80s, which started SCHECTER. Then ESP started early 90s with Tak Hosono. Then: Ibanez started in the 70s making *EXACT* copies of Fender and Gibson. Not even "improved". The so called: "Lawsuit guitars". So, you were saying?
First off, I know the guy makes amazing guitars. I would love to play one. BUT, it would be nice if people would at least give Les Paul credit, even if they hate Gibson. It's Les Pauls design. Using generic terms like single cutaway all the time is lame. A fucking Telecaster is a single cutaway. It's pretty obvious when you make your version of a Les Paul. Just give the guy a shoutout for fuck sake.
They don’t say certain things for legal reasons, has nothing to do with not giving Les credit for his design, especially since Gibson is sue happy, they know other companies make a better SINGLECUT at better or on par prices, so they have to resort to legal battles against smaller builders.
Les Paul didn't actually design the guitar, he helped Gibson develop a solid body guitar but Les didn't have a lot of input into the actual design. He had his name on it because he was a very popular electric guitarist during the late 40s & early 1950s. I guess that you could say that the original Les Paul was basically the world's first signature guitar.
I love suhr guitars just amazing guitars all around and there tone is amazing also
Suhr make’s a great guitar. The neck on mine is like buttered glass and the fretwork is the best I’ve seen on any guitar. Definitely gonna have to have a Aura for sure.
The modern satin now comes with a gotoh floyd rose, instead of the original floyd rose, thats worth mentioning. Great upgrade in my opinion.
love my Suhr !
They really cover the A to Z for guitar players
lol
I assume this is a joke cough Ibanez cough

Gorgeous guitars. I tried one at The Music Zoo recently. So good.
Great interview, Suhr makes awesome instruments. The Asato models are kind of appealing !
Accept as far as I know Asato used the
Thornbucker
Seems that every year they revamp their Pro Series/Core line. Difficult to keep track of all the specs :-)
Holy shit, the black and gold Suhr Mateus Asato is stunning!!!
I need one of those Les Paul types...very nice
Yeah, wow, those are amazing.
My boy Mateus. Man I wish I had the cash for those
Bell Cranel I’m in the same boat. Hope you get one👌🏼
I have rhe cash, i played one... i like my strats lol couldnt pay that much for a copy.
Guitars for life these. Gibson and Fender cannot compete with these on any level.
On any level? That's complete nonsense. I've played medicocre Suhr guitars, I've played good ones. tdunster2011 really? They practically live off fender and Gibson copies.
Fender live off Fender copies ffs. What's the difference ?
Was there any color available for the mateus asato guitar?
People arent allowed to play NAMM display guitars because dealers usually buy all display items from most makers and dont want scratches or dings etc. The ones people are allowed to play are ones makers really dont care if they get jacked up by someone noodling on em, cuz they are not the exact guitar a dealer is buying . 0:09 Is that Jean Reno on the left?!
John Suhr is quite skilled
right ...he is really smart too. i can find great fenders and gibsons that i love... but his are sweet too. and he knows so much about amps and his business. r.e.s.p.e.c.t.
msievers55
Your reply was quite good
First 100 Aura's already sold out!!!!!!!!
How is $3000 for a guitar affordable?
That suhr was confusing
Sky Burial lol. Which one? I wasn’t confused.
I’m pretty Suhr I know what you did there.
@@n8c.rad.823 whoosh...........
Fuck that company. I HATE THEM.
1:55 it does what? Let them do their job
Travis needs to do his homework before the show!
Is it so hard to make a new design/ body shape?
I think it's less that it's hard to make, but harder to sell. New shapes are usually not terribly well regarded and sell poorly to start with.
Man im so sad , why did they change the neck profile :( and no fiesta red now? :|
The vintage yellow is way better....
Holy crap I want that tobacco burst flametop telle over there
I don´t even wanna know the prices...
Exceptionally affordable when one considers the price of an aircraft carrier
5:14 "is called the classic ass"
how the hell did suhr get wolverine to present their guitars?
hchoe741 the 90s X-Men wolverine right 😂
And Ibanez etc
You got it the other way around. Ibanez ripped-off Suhr guitars for their new AZ line, not the other way around.
Ok So this is the Fender clone booth... next
Charlie Nuzzo When a “clone” or “copy” of an original model improves on every aspect and is better made and plays vastly superior to the original, what does that say about the model being “cloned”?
Well Fender is copying Suhr with the new Ultra (but it’s still not as good)
Or is that a mis -print
Looks like an ibanez az!! LOL
Jeez, wonder where Ibanez got the inspiration from, lol
David Jones
Poe’s Law
Amazing guitars, but come on, pay to some designers to create a new design and stop copying Fender, Gibson, Etc...
The Modern is their own design. Even then: No need to reinvent the wheel, just do it better.
RicardoDiazHimself reinvent the wheel would be to create an instrument with completely new features (no strings, no pick ups, etc, etc), but we are talking about design. The Modern is their own design. It was actually designed for Guthrie Govan, thats why it was his signature. And its the highest selling model they do.
John $$$uhr
I know those are great guitars. But they are just too expensive.
Also, you cant pick them up and try them out? Lol...
Best I have ever played
The namm show is not a guitar center. Go to a Suhr dealer to try guitars. Namm show is to show dealers a new product. They can try them just asking. Last year a super expensive Ernie ball guitar was stolen at the show. You don't want that with $8k guitars
There’s so much hype on these guitars, they look like total Fender Copies! Sucks you can’t play them or hold them at NAMM, what’s up with that???
Sewer guitars
What's with all those black headstocks though. Pretty ugly...
Too expensive! They should come our prize range close to ibanez premium or prestige
Joseph gordon lewitt looks so weird with his hair dyed blonde... But is making a good job as journalist (y)
I don't understand why Shur is so confident about showing off their copied designs from fender. The only original design they came up with are their goofy headstocks. Don't get me wrong they make great guitars but the way the use the word "classic" really gets on my nerves.
Well, those models *ARE* classics. Also: Every brand does their own version. Why does it bother you specially that Suhr builds them too?
RicardoDiazHimself those are fender's classics not theirs and they only have a 20yr old history. Yes every brand does them but other brands don't have like exact design copies and with their Moto on IMPROVING guitar design and quality on companies having original design and history, I just think they are getting away with a lot here. So, you were saying?
That's not John Suhr you tools, its a guy named Travis talking about his guitars. Just say "Suhr at NAMM", instead of trying to clickbait people.
CNCTEMATIC I take it you’ve not watched the whole video?
No, I got 15 minutes in. I see John shows up at the end. My bad.
First off, I know the guy makes amazing guitars. I would love to play one. BUT, it would be nice if people would at least give Les Paul credit, even if they hate Gibson. It's Les Pauls design. I'm just now learning this on Facebook.
SaintKines They can’t refer to Gibson due to legalities. Plus their ‘strats’ have never been called strats etc..
Les Paul didn't actually design the guitar, he helped Gibson develop a solid body guitar but Les didn't have a lot of input into the actual design. It was actually a Paul Bigsby design.
