What a beauty. Nothing wrong with finding value in budget-friendly guitars, but I’m personally grateful that when you pay for expert craftsmanship and relentless attention to detail-that’s what you get.
Way back when ...I was working in LA , I decided to get a custom guitar made by the custom shop. I went down to the factory and met John Page and we went over the design of what I wanted .. An Arch top Tele with a Mahog body and a set neck and Standard Tele pickups in the usual metal bridge .. He assigned me to John Suhr to build it for me . Left LA and waited ...and waited ...and waited. Got a call from John Page . Said terribly sorry but John cant build it as he has been assigned to build Eric Claptons Amps so will I accept that Gene Baker builds it .. Didnt know who he was but I was assured he knew what he was up to ..Got the guitar a year later .. excellent as is all Gene's work , but missed out on having a hand built Suhr ..
Totally agree. Lee represents the average guitarist with budget money. Today is a turning point with an expensive guitar but we still love Lee “Mr Budget”
Damn, that is a SWEET sounding guitar tone. If the fit and finish is as good as I suspect it is, that guitar is perfection. And yes, HSS is the perfect configuration.
Congrats Lee, lovely guitar, I’m just about to pick up a James Tyler, like you its a brand I’ve always wanted to own , hopefully my smile will be as big as yours when I get it. 😎🤘
Health to enjoy Lee! I am sure it's a keeper especially because it was for a milestone birthday and it's good to have a story behind a guitar, makes them a bit more special and worth more to you than the actual value. Happy birthday and enjoy.
Congratulations Lee and happy birthday. A tasty axe for sure. I’ve never played. Suhr. I have a couple of PRS guitars that are flawless and play so well. Enjoy and welcome to the club (50’s club)…
Love the the Rats:) Happy Birthday Lee!!!!!🎉 Love your new guitar:) I turn 50 today as well maybe I should buy one too lol:) no I’m good. Be well folks:)
Good video, happy birthday Lee... you are a cool dude. Beautiful guitar so I quickly googled to find out what "the damage" would be. As expected, this is very expensive and I could never justify it. Now shoot it out against one of your "bang for the buck" purchases :)
I caught a lot of crap for the gig bag and honestly I had mixed feelings about it at first. Now I love the gig bag. I’ve had it now for 9 years and it has been great. Love my Suhr.
We all rationalize that exceptional guitar purchase in our own way but we eventually get there and wonder why we didn't do it sooner! Congratulations! "I sold a vital organ " he says, hilarious!
Love the clean sounds of this guitar. IMO, the only thing you are demonstrating with the distortion sounds is the guitar intonation setup (which also sounds good too). For me there are two things - it has to sound right, and it also has to feel right. Both of you shows that it ticks these boxes in spades (if that is a thing) :).
There's only one Lee Abraham. Sometimes, you have to treat yourself. The Egyptians tried to take their wealth with them and it ended up in the British Natural History museum. Good for you Lee. Great playing the both of you. Two different styles. God bless you both 🙏 🙏
I just bought the perfect fender strat: the American Ultra in exact same color UltraBurst and HSS as well. Phenomenal guitar. Also shaved at the heel with the extra cutaway...the perfect guitar. Im sure yours is just as excellent. 😊
Great story….especially about the chase for the ultimate guitar. Tbh Lee gigging all the time, why not buy an amazing guitar that you really want and not settle for any compromises. I look forward in hearing whether Lee still has the Suhr in a years time, and whether he has any further comments on using it for a year. Likes and dislikes if any.
first time i heard of Suhr was around 2017, got back into guitars and was on the prowl for a new axe. Tried out a Suhr classic strat just like that 3-tone but with 3 single coils and their version of relic. Hands down, the most elegant strat i've ever played, but $3500 for a strat was excessive; and only a gig back for all that moola? i'll stick to my Nash relic, celebrating 20yrs together this year.
@@stephenh.4476even to this day, I will not give in to that. Saw a video today that iconic guitars had laid off it's workforce citing expenses etc. Its another cali guitar maker building $3500+ strats. No wonder
Suhr are a great guitar, but we have to face it, we pay a lot of money for the name/brand when we buy Fender/Gibson/Suhr/ and other well known brands😏😞
Lee come to the dark side. Just kidding. Enjoy your new guitar. Happy Birthday. 🎉 yep John Suhr and Rudy Pensa who still has his guitar store in Soho NYC.
I love the design, quality, and feel of Suhr guitars, but they just feel too sterile to me. I have owned five different versions, and never bonded with any of them. Not sure why. They sound great, look great, feel great, but I almost never grab my Suhr. I always grab my other guitars first.
I’m the same way. I’ve owned several and sold every one. IMO the S doesn’t sound like a strat and the T doesn’t sound like a tele. They don’t feel right either.
People like it when Lee is on because it’s a good vibe between the both of you, and I think he represents the audience the “every man” (maybe not now with his fancy axe). RUclips is littered with pro/semi pro players and it’s nice to get a perspective from someone who seems knowledgeable yet relatable.
lol thats actually a relevant point,my most expensive guitars, are probably the ones ive played least live, and the odd time i have, the guitar hasnt left my body, whether onstage or not, cant leave it sitting anywhere, where as ive played all, well most,of my bit less expensive, mid priced to cheaper guitars at many gigs/jams etc only posh gigs, with proper backstage area, which sort of limits the gigs
The reverbations of this pivotal decision will spread through society like a pandemic... upscaling for our budget gear. Lee... what have you done? Do Suhr sell HSS S Types?.... See it has started already!
I’ve always had cheaper guitars but got a Suhr 5 years ago. I now have two and have never looked back, genuinely worth the price
What a beauty. Nothing wrong with finding value in budget-friendly guitars, but I’m personally grateful that when you pay for expert craftsmanship and relentless attention to detail-that’s what you get.
This is how I feel about my Vigier. At my age 52 I’m going to buy myself a killer guitar every birthday.

Thnx, Paul… great post as usual.
Congratulations Lee!! Happy Birthday and enjoy this cracking purchase! 🎉🎉
The two of you hanging out talking gear is a great combination. BTW. Congrats on the new guitar

Congrats again, Lee. Nice video guys!
Happy birthday Lee! 🙌🏻
awesome.... an honest review we can all relate. Thanks TSR and please keep it up......
Lee, it's a keeper it sounds phenomenal a great show and tell
Congrats on the beautiful guitar and Happy Birthday !!! from Detroit
Great sounding guitar. Lovely as well. Congratz!
Oh Paul, just an fyi, although we love Lee, it’s when you both show up together is where the magic happens, you’re both great when you collaborate 😊

That's a really GREAT sounding and looking guitar! Congrats!
Happy 50th Lee!👏🏻👋🏼

Several years ago, I bought a Suhr Modern (HSH) as a 60th birthday present for myself. Wonderful instrument. It's my "race car" guitar.

Lee for the lead player of the video. Wait the guitar took the lead! Thanks Lee! Just beautiful sonically and visually.

Couldn’t agree more!!!
I got one of those Peach Dealer selects shipped to me in Aus, I don’t play any of my other guitars these days.

congrats twice , Birthday and Geetar
The necks are like butter so heavenly. I’m jelly . I’ll eventually get me one just because I must. So damn expensive though.
Great guitar Lee, I think people in Harley Benton will be sad to see you go..... Now you got to get a SR amp to mathc that axe!
Probably not the first to say but, John Suhr was the head of the fender custom shop. First at Pensa-Suhr, then Fender, then his own Suhr.
Great story….especially about the chase for the ultimate guitar.

No mention of the silent circuit that keeps the singles quiet or the quality of the treble bleed.
Both make the HSS so easy to live with.
Once you play a Suhr, you don't want anything else. I got one quite some time ago, and it has been my main ever since.
Tough to beat their playability, tuning stability, intonation, etc.
Love them too but it’s a pity they are so expensive for something that looks like a cheap squire, the necks could be roasted or caramelised maple
@@keithmulcahy3417 They certainly don't look cheap up close. And the guitar in this video has a roasted maple neck and fingerboard..
I don't know? There's alot of excellent S type guitars available. MusicMan would be my first choice.
I have played a few but haven’t bonded with any of them. All great guitars though.
Ouh that’s nice 🙂
Did you said roasted maple does classic s or classic antique comes with that configuration and a thornbucker+ ?
Or you had it custom build?
Very nice example with a lot of mojo
Simple player this Lee chap. But got tone in his hands.

$3500 for any guitar is nuts.

whats that amp sound? only watched part
hi Paul, which one you prefer? ssv+ or thorn+ to be paired with v63
I’m afraid I haven’t tried the SSV
Maybe Lee should get his own channel?
yes he should.
👍
Lee lee Lee, What have you done.....lol

Well chuffed. Pip pip.
What's the amp? Sounds pretty much like a Fender Mexican tele.
Suhr is crème de la crème
A TRAITOR IS WHAT MR LEE IS :D
He's not a man of the people anymore.

Not that it's any of my business but Mr Budget seems to have bought a lot of (expensive) gear recently, maybe the GAS is getting him.
With a guitar like that you’ll have to ditch the pub gigs and start playing in wine bars

I play for Galahad, Cosmograf and release my own solo albums. Also play locally in the bar band
@@Docksidestudio1 Ahh I see, now I know where I know you from.
Lee, please answer my questions! Yes, no?
I'm sure they're very nice but I just cannot get on with that headstock...
The Ultra is cheaper in the U.S
I’ve owned a few of these and never bonded with them because they don’t feel or sound like a strat. Looks can be deceiving.
