He has stepped down as ruler so Poppy could become Queen. Heck, Barb's dad did the same thing. I think aside from the Classical Trolls, all the main genres have a named King, either former or current.

Every genre in this movie has been boiled down to its most stereotypical and most generic bad part. They didn’t use any bad metal and/ or rock songs but the problem is just the songs are very bland and not as diverse as others like iron man by Black Sabbath or stuff like that

I still find it hilarious how they got amazing artists to sing in this movie.
I'll be honest, that I find it most interesting that Branch in this movie had a lot more screen time and not a lot about poppy.
I also want to mention that if the Trolls are usually identified by the music they play or regional, How is it that branch can sing and dance with different trolls when they said that the other music sounds awful to the other trolls? but branch seems not to give a F***?
I mean Branch spent like an entire 2 decades hating music or fun, so at this point he probably doesn’t care anymore

I love how rock is the antagonist and pop is the protagonist, when in real life it's the other way round.
I watched this movie before the final countdown to 2021 with my parents because my mom wanted to watch a movie about Trolls. Not even two minutes in, she reconsidered her decision, but I insisted that we go through with it. After seeing the movie, I can state with certainty that CinemaSins missed about 80% of the sins this movie committed. And GOD DAMN is it a trip…
Bonus sin: they never address why barb looks like a desaturated poppy. When I first saw the character design, I thought she was gonna be like, revealed to be poppy’s half sister from her mother running off to join the rock trolls or something, but nope, just a lazy recolor looking troll.

To be fair, it’s more realistic for him to not immediately be happy again all the time after years of being...Branch.
Here he's bluish, while in the first movie he was completely gray. Guess his happiness got downgraded.
Technically, he wasn’t gray, but a kind of blueish/greenish color. They’ve never gotten his colors right. Not in the Netflix show, not in Trolls Holiday, so honestly I wasn’t surprised

If it doesn’t quite fit another genre perfectly, it becomes rock. Explain to me how Coldplay, 21 Pilots, The Kinks, CCR, The Ramones, Green Day, Sheryl Crow, Metallica, Tom Petty, David Bowie, Queen, Dagonforce, and Smash Mouth all fit under the same category-rock. In the movie Barb even does a rock version of classical music. Name a more diverse genre. No other genre has as many different sounds and instruments and styles.

The very first time I saw the trailer and ever since I have thought this. For all the styles of music, they rely on stupid and overblown stereotypes. I'm not trying to whine and say that any sane person believes them-but these are kids movies. Why is rock n roll evil, dark, and scary? I'm pretty sure most adults enjoy it?
Idk why people always stereotype rock music as an evil music, it has different genres of rock music, Christian rock, hard rock, alternate, punk.

@Max Selcow Well they did say they are hard rock trolls so I assume they are going for that earley motley crue/ kiss/ emo look cuz for some reason many people think that's how rock artists look like and all they do is play crazy shit. I am not saying I don't like those things because I grew up listening to emo and got introduced to classic rock bands because of that. However, portraying rock with that is just unacceptable in my opinion. Also now kids are going to hate rock/metal because of this movie
I haven't seen this movie. But I didn't get the impression that Rock was supposed to be evil, just the most aggressive which sort of kind of makes sense. It's like in Avatar the Fire nation was the evil nation, but Fire itself wasn't evil just the Lord of the nation made it that way.
DreamWorks created a "look at all the movies I made" logo but didn't even add a scene from their best movie, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron, but instead added Boss Baby scenes? I'm disappointed.
It's like they forgot it existed! Oh wait, they didn't forget, cuz they made a crappy Netflix show that's barely like the movie and has poor cgi.
They also didn’t include how to train your dragon which has an actually decent Netflix series what the FUCKING FUCK?

Nation of trolls @1:42 is as brutal as it is accurate.
You know, for as lame as the storyline may be, the animation design is incredible. I watch this once in a while when I'm bored and I just look at the sets, the scenery, even the characters. I notice something new almost every time.
WAIT A MINUTE! At the beginning of the first movie, the trolls escaped captivity and found a new home. No one was carrying around the big harp thing. Nobody had it in the crowd during the escape.

As a metal head this movie makes me sad. Metal heads are the kindest and chilliest people I know. You don’t even have to like the same bands but you still have a familial connection. “Metal is for everyone

@Sam You should have said black metal the first time then, instead of categorizing a sub genre into an entire genre. Nothing sounds better because it’s literally a fact that metal and rock get your heart rate higher than any other genre, you can’t “it sounds better” anything when that is a scientific fact. All those hip hop artists stole things from rockers and such. Riffs, rhythms, lyrics, don’t even try defending them.

This movie is literally just "metal elitist take over the world" and "the ultimate power cord", while extremely well animated and sounding pretty good, isn't a power chord. The funny thing is that punks and metal heads are pretty much the exact opposite of what they are portrayed as in this movie

As a baby punker (I'm starting to get into alt and punk culture), yeah this is true, a majority of people that are metalhead, alt or punk fans are more than likely to be some of the sweetest people you know, and if anything, it's the people that like pop or popular songs on your local radio that have been cunts towards me.

I grew up with 'old' Disney movies and found this movie was actually not to bad. It has its problems but it is a pretty serviceable movie.
