It takes an enormous skill to play solo flute at the bottom of its register and make it resonate enough to be heard in the audience over even just pizzicato strings.
Wonderful! I think when God was handing out musical talent, He gave Kranj twice as much as every other place on earth!
...another lovely performance, especially with the rarely-heard and
enchanting choral music..... even the accident, and coughing doesn't detract from one's enjoyment of their lovely sounds!...... So admirable that Slovenia has a youth orchestra of this calibre AND a national orchestra! As a music-appreciator in Calif, its evident that the musical kultur in Slovenia ECLIPSES that of most US cities with much larger populations, especially those with trillions of high-tech $...
Well, its the truth. A perfect illustration of how $ and bad government, and ill-educated citizenry corrupt the arts. And its depressing to see this in all areas of the USA on the coasts, where hi-tech congregates, and empowers the uglier elements of society. This is not a good time for classical music in the USA.
Yes, bad luck about that. Put it out of your mind and move on.

The Cymbal drop just added a dramatic dimension to the piece. They should write it in.

Simply wonderful one can even forgive the incident with the cymbals. The tone of the choir and the balance of voices and orchestra is truly remarkable.

No harm done, worse could happen! And I think it's nicer when you can hear the rustle of music sheets, chairs being moved, the occasional clearing of a throat, etc rather than having them filtered out. Makes the experience feel more real.
I don't think that's cymbals falling down. It sounds like a triangle and tambourine and associated mallets and beater sticks hitting the floor. All that stuff is sitting on a stand visible at 2:07, and there's no one even around it, so the stand must've been loose and just flipped down from too much stuff sitting on it. at 2:50 you can see the triangle on the floor, and the tambourine isn't on the stand anymore, but not visible.
@@gorak9000Nice catch. We (percussion) always used music stands for auxiliary percussion instruments and got away with it, but this proves its not the right tool for the job.
Why do they need composers though? They're reading their music not looking at him.

Oh, so you KNEW Gabriel Fauré then, and he told you in person that he disapproved, right? No? Well then, in THAT case, it is strictly you personal opinion, and a snippy little comment. Nothing new on RUclips. Always a few spoilers around.
Fauré himself used to joke that it was the princess who was dead, not the pavane. Believe me, he didn’t want this performed in a stuffy, overly formal, or unduly reverential way.

I like the steady tempo and the choir, but the tempo could be much slower. This is a Pavane - think Ravel.
Such a beautiful performance. Why didn't they stop and start again when the 'accident' occurred? Knowing it is about to occur definitely has a negative effect on my listening experience. What a shame! 😓

Music stand took a header, according to my friend who was the founder and music director of this orchestra. Accidents happen. But these kids, so professional at such young ages, did not miss a beat. 😌💖
Much too fast for my taste, the notes aren't given the gravity and weight they need when they're played at this tempo.

Quite right here is what comments Wikipedia as well as the English translation of the french poem:
"The Pavane in F-sharp minor, Op. 50, is a pavane by the French composer Gabriel Fauré written in 1887. It was originally a piano piece, but is better known in Fauré's version for orchestra and optional chorus. Obtaining its rhythm from the slow processional Spanish court dance of the same name, the Pavane ebbs and flows from a series of harmonic and melodic climaxes, conjuring a haunting Belle Époque elegance. The piece is scored for only modest orchestral forces consisting of string instruments and one pair each of flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, and horns. A typical performance lasts about six minutes...Fauré composed the orchestral version at Le Vésinet in the summer of 1887. He envisaged a purely orchestral composition, using modest forces, to be played at a series of light summer concerts conducted by Jules Danbé. After Fauré opted to dedicate the work to his patron, Elisabeth, comtesse Greffulhe he felt compelled to stage a grander affair and at her recommendation he added an invisible chorus to accompany the orchestra (with additional allowance for dancers). They made the same error due to the conductor's direction of course that they made in 2009 with Ravel's Bolero. The orchestra played the work in 13 minutes applause included. Check here the same work performed by Gergiev with the LSO: ruclips.net/video/dZDiaRZy0Ak/видео.html . Duration 16'44" when you eliminate the 2'16" of intro to the archive! One can accept at most a difference of duration of 1 to 2 minutes but not nearly 4 minutes for such a work.
Here when you listen to other performances of the Pavane the average duration is between 6 and 7' , shorter timing is a complete nonsense.
Nonetheless the orchestra is really very good and for some of the works they performed recently of a very high level considering the average of the different players. They should be very proud of the incredible progress they made between 2009 and 2018. The Scheherazade recording is amazing in 2010.

It was a cymbal stand that got knocked over. Did you let that ruin it for you? Too bad for you, then. And you should probably avoid Ever going to a live symphony concert, because stuff just Happens at those events , and not just coughs and sneezes. 🙄

Beautiful performance. Let the audience be quiet, without coughing or sniffing. And an accident with an instrument is really impossible, it ruins the great performance.
It didn't ruin anything, unless you allowed it to. Not One of the "kids" in this superb orchestra or chorus missed a beat, or even blinked. People do cough and sneeze during live performances. And, occasionally, a door inadvertently slams or, as here, a cymbal takes a tumble. I will take that Any day rather than a recording in a sterile studio with multiple edits so that it is "perfect", in some sound engineer's opinion.
Too bad for you that your experience was "ruined". All of the rest of us were just Fine. Maybe you should stick to your CDs or DVDs, where every second is clinically-perfect, and spare the rest of us here your angst. 🙄😊
