    KEEP THE BRACKETS!
When you realize you need a place to mount something, you might find that EGR bracket is great for some controller box, and the coil bracket will hold your fuel filter. There's even already a place you might be able to put the bracket, without drilling new holes and adding nutserts.

Super poor quality engine. Did the rings at 25k.
My old man is a mechanic. We rebuilt the engine. He and his mate who was an engine builder told me everything was rubbish.
Sold it not too long after that.
Great memories , tho, as my first car.

I don't ever remember seeing a Vauxhall Chevette Coupe in the UK, but in 1983 I was posted to Germany with a new driving licence and a desire to drive around Europe. My first car was a bright orange 4 speed manual transmission, 1976 Opel Kadett 1.2 SR. As I'm sure all of us can with out first cars, the registration number was TX 815 B (a British Forces Germany plate). It had been very well maintained by a Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers mechanic. It wouldn't reach 100 MPH, but it would sit on the autobahns at 95 MPH for hour after hour until the fuel tank was empty.
It had a 150 W/channel Pioneer stacking non working stereo, and huge speakers on the rear shelf with an illuminated "Pioneer" logo wired into the lights. I was an electronics technician and it turned out to be an easy fix, so I had an awesome (for the time) sound system to boot!
Steel Ro-Style black and silver wheels with oversized 175/70/13 tyres and an aftermarket black foam rubber boot lid spoiler completed the look.
I worked on the RAF airfields and with access to an enormous runway I learnt how to drive that car to the ragged edge in the dry, the wet and during the winter snow as well. All I did in 2.5 years of ownership was service it, it never needed anything and never broke down. The guy who sold it to me had brought an Opel Manta GT, it looked good but he often told me whilst getting drunk together in the NAAFI bar that he regretted selling it.
When I sold it, I had put about 50,000 miles on it and due to the difference in the Pound to the Deutsch Mark exchange rate I sold it for more than I paid for it.
During my ownership of it, we bought a tatty 1.6 together, prepped it and used it to compete in rallies and rally X events organized by the RAF. I don't remember that one ever having anything serious go wrong with it either and man did it get abused!!
I'd love to own one now, but I live in Thailand now where they were branded as the Isuzu Gemini, they're slightly rarer than rocking horse pooh and having become familiar with the mod cons of modern cars, I wonder if the reality of ownership today would match the memories of ownership from over 40 years ago.
But I am looking forward to the full restoration and the modernizing of it. Although from experience I do wonder if despite their cleanliness compared to early 70s engines, a modern engine will prove to be as robust and low maintenance oa the original?

I got my Ps in a Gemini. Half my year 12 had them for a first car. Other popular first cars were 70s RWD Corollas, Mk2 Escorts, and early commodores. Brings back memories as I worked on lots of mates Gems in the early 90s. Even did a non engineered V6 conversion into a TD that was dodgy as, and twisted the body when you nailed it. It lasted 6 months before we got pulled over and red carded….. By ‘95 they all seemed to just vanish.

Other options back then... My first car, the two door Mk2 Escort, which already had a worked 1600 put into it when I brought it, even though it started life as an 1100cc rental car, It ended up with everything from a 1600sport except the diff, I swapped that to the 4.44 diff from the Panel van & once I worked the engine even more with 1300 pistons, hotter cam, even bigger Webber carb, new extractors that were a vast improvement over the sports extractors... it was much faster than an Ausy RS2000, the only thing that was missing was the Capri vented disc's and split kit for the type 16 callipers to make it really awesome!
but there was also the Vauxhall Chevette, and the ones that shocked people because they were much faster than they looked, the Hillman Avenger & Morris Marina!

Im jealous! I too had many Gemini's back in the day.. and i also did pizza delivery in them! I still have a key chain somewhere with most of the keys from all of them! My first car was an HR wagon, hand-me-down from dad, but the first car i bought was a TX Gemini sedan that the rear quarter panels looked like they had been stung by bee's.. Obviously it had had a rear ender at some point and was badly repaired. Only cos me $500 and i loved it. I always wanted a TC Panel van with wide wheels on the back and a rotary in the front.. But sadly these days the prices of both are skyrocketing and out of my reach. But i still imagine what it could look like every day! Im really looking forward to seeing how this build turns out!

Some of those parts are worth keeping and or selling as they aren't really available here in Aus.. Bumpers, Seat buckles etc.. The window trims will go back on and would be nicer if the paint is taken off and polished. Never seen sound deadner on the engine bay shelf before.. About time too.. Friggin awesome.

When I was in high school (at a similar time to Marty), one of my teachers had a Gemini coupe the same model as this one. We all thought it was an old banger back then. It leaked and water pooled in the same spots as Marty's car. PJ's (the owner) solution was to hammer a phillips head screwdriver through the floor at the deepest point of the puddles.

    Diesel Gemini
One of the engine options for the first generation Gemini in Australia in the early 80's was a diesel, but only a small number were sold.
It was incredibly slow, but was, by far, the slowest vehicle I've ever driven. It was so slow it had trouble keeping up with normal traffic even when your foot was smashed to the floor. If any car needed a turbo, it was this one.
