Really great 1/4 matches. Particularly the first three. That South Africa goal line stand was incredible. As an Irishman… that was frustrating! But exciting. Looking forward to the Semis on Saturday
Yeah I'm not used to massive defensive sets in 7s, but they showed how it's done
Again thank you so much for considering rugby 7s as part of your video recaps
As a South African fan I really take my hat off to the Irish rugby. Their rugby programme is the best in the world without a doubt and I’m sure they will soon get over this Q/final hoodoo. Off to the Semis, may the best team win. It looks like the French are still hurt from the 15’s w/final loss to SA with all that booing.
The salt is real
😂
And we got them in the Semis... maybe we can rub salt in the wound. Its gonna be tough
Aa an irish fan I love rebut I do like south africa also abd I hate all this hatred over a game from both set of fans it's a game at the end of day it's not a life or death or situation wish people would concentrate on things of importance
@@blathnaidsherry4035 couldn’t agree with you more, I do think however the players have a lot more respect for each other.
Look as an Irish fan we just didn’t have the killer instant to win the game but that last Fiji try how was that not a knock on and why didn’t the tmo intervene
Politics in rugby like everything else.
If you get a chance to watch the slow motion of the incident, the ref was in line with the contest and deemed it play on. Hence, the TMO doesn't get involved in play knock on.
Yes, I agree, clear knock-on. Should work a their conversion kicks, all those misses put unnecessary pressure on the team.
I think Ireland would have been better without Keenan. To me he is the best fullback in 15's but you could see he is not a 7's specialist and I think a specialist could maybe have offered that missing something to carry them over the line.
See your instinct is to go for excuses and look for something 😂 this is why you never seen a semi final
Maybe they have a luck of the irish😢😅😂.📍🇿🇦
Rugby Sevens is one of my favourite Olympic Sports to watch now. Gutted to see NZ have a quarter final exit though, South Africa defended REALLY well.
We in SA were just along for the ride KNOWING we'd go out against NZ. ONLY reason most of us were watching it was because it's another NZ/SA game, which we love watching. We were shocked. Sorry, NZ. gg
@@greenplasticgun Yeah it was still a great game. Looking forward to the rugby championship this year. NZ/SA contests have become even more intense in recent times I reckon.
Love your balanced and positive commentary! Keep it up!
so proud of the aussie boys, that win over argentina was huge
Yeah they've been bloody slick so far!
Really happy for the Blitzbokke, they barely scraped into the QF and to get the win over NZ took massive effort, that defense was immense. Im proud of the boys pulling it together. Lets see if they can keep that intensity against France in France
Rugby 7s is my favorite Olympic sport. I lived in Fiji for three years, so naturally Fiji is my favorite team. Go! Go! Go! FIJI!!! 🇫🇯
Yeah man crazy good to see the action the last couple days!
@@TwoCentsRugby 👍
Considering we were number one seeds and virtually guaranteed the Gold Medal pre-Olympics, and factoring in the Blitzboks' shaky sevens record of late, I think it's fair to say that we Choked. The Truth hurts. Congrats to the Boks.
Lol
@@jpfowlds5921Argentina was on top of the sheet before Madrid in hsbc seven and lost against France in the final in Madrid. NZ was one of the favorites but not gold medal guaranteed… 😅
Blatant knock on from the last Fiji try but hard to have a go as Fiji deserve to win it again
I’m the same, I never watch 7s. But the work rate is insane. No wonder it produces high work rate outside backs.
Well done for getting up to watch these!
It would be huge for the boks to take home 15s World Cup and 7s Olympic gold back to back. Let’s go bokke!
But optimistic i thought we had a bit of luck but we'll see i don't reckon anyone beats fiji on their day
@@kingpower4631Fiji's pretty dynamic, aren't they ? 🇿🇦
If we do the French again, they will cancel all tourist visas from SA.
I used to take part in the original sevens at Melrose. Always enjoyed it but my how the game has changed. Still enjoy watching, especially Fiji!
Melrose in the Borders? My first job was at the Borders General hospital and I loved watching the Sevens there!
@@charlottescott7150 That is the one where it all officially began. I am from Glasgow.
@@zworm2 wow that's amazing! My job there was in 1993. When did it start? I didn't know that I was witnessing history

@@zworm2 only 110 years!! I didn't know it began there. Thank you for reminding me of an amazing part of my life
Cant believe we nearly done it. Ireland played so well
@@Irish780 yes Ireland have put in a lot of hard work and effort to get as far as they did, really enjoyed watching both the Irish 7s and 15s rugby teams development brother.from a kiwi Go Ireland!
@@Jon-bk2yw Thanks, appreciate the acknowledgment 👍☘🇮🇪
Did not expect this from the Blitzbokke. There form lately has really been inconsistent and they tend to make silly mistakes in games that they should be able to win. Maybe the Olympics can make them focus a bit. I watch them have to get through the playoffs in Monaco to get here.
Our defense in 7's has also always been one of our strengths, but even that has been off lately. So very good to see how we defended in the NZ game.
There is already a call in SA Rugby to put some time in to get our 7's and women's rugby up to the top again.
Anything is a bonus at this stage. I am sure we will ge a hostile crowd again as we had in the 1/4 final in the 15's.
So go Blitzbokke !!!
Blitz boks attack is beyond deadly. They make silly mistakes sure but the thing is as a defense when the other team can counter attack like that it’s pressure. Cause they make mistakes but you know any mistake you make probably means being 5-7 more points behind. Same as the bok side except counter attack in 7s is much harder to counter.
Aussie and Fiji undefeated, bring on the semi!
Hoping for a Blitzboks & Fiji final :)
We have to get past Du Pont first
Thanks for the recap Mark. Really struggling to find any highlights so this is all I got!
I am surprised there aren't more freely available highlights anywhere!
@@TwoCentsRugbytry France tv sport the French broadcaster. I am not sure they are doing all teams because they are covering all Olympic
Just French teams replays sorry
Thanks boys. Found some with a UK Vpn on RUclips. Don't know why I didn't try there before
Defense was epic
7's is great. It's great watching how many Blitzbokke then move on to 15's🇿🇦
Great competition, but not sure that the Fiji should had won, with 2 tries that could be seen as knock-ons. Gutted, but that is sport.
dreadful decision in the Ireland game clear knock-on by Fiji for the winning score
The quarter-finals in a sold-out Stade de France were really great, the atmosphere was fantastic, only the last one was of lesser quality.
I'm hoping for a France-Fiji final, and may the best team win, but who knows with sevens, today's winner is tomorrow's loser, may as well be South Africa vs Australia.
Too bad that we can't have XV in the Olympics (I understand why).
Sevens is bloody great. NZR and RA should be doing a bunch of work promoting domestic Sevens comps. Aus and NZ are the two markets most impacted by a well-funded rise of the NRL. Sevens is fast and exciting running rugby with a carnival atmosphere that fans and their wallets love. Australia desperately needs a money-earner that gets more people excited about rugby. Sevens is the perfect foreplay for a general sports fan. The more that Sevens is built up, the more freedom the 15s game has to be its tough, tense, grinding self.
Sevens definitely seems like the game to get people into rugby
Ireland threw the game away with that silly kick when they were on the attack with one man up! Should have just kept the ball in hand.
Yeah and no drop to scrape by 😂 maybe semi finals just ain’t for you

Ouch! I don't mind losing to Fiji, but with what looked like a clear knock-on for the 3rd try, that's not a good look.
Still, great progress by our guys to come from nowhere last decade to contending with the best now. Still a lot of development to come.
I can see Sevens being a hit on social media and suited to modern attention spans, so should have a good future. Football is mostly running and passing, and that took over the world, so…
Im from canada so i really think france could get the gold medal this year the team chemistry is out the roof
People said the same thing during the RWC
@@bhekemsenidladla3202I think it is fair to say Fiji and France are favorite for the finals spots regarding the season and the tournament form so far. But in 7s you never know, small things can lead to go back home.
@@bhekemsenidladla3202yes but this time it’s true 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
That was Brutal! 😂😂😂🤗
Sad drive home from work today 😂 I look forward to new videos from you
So true, in 7's anything can happen!
Brian Habana, Bob Skinstad, Cheslin Colby, Quagga Smith.... and there are plenty more who used 7's as their platform into Rugby Union.
Yeah man for NZ guys like Lomu and Cullen are in that category too
How was that crowd during the French game!! Immense.. didn’t really have the feel of the olympics where you don’t boo contestants but my word what a 8th man
The Irish live their rugby dreams a quarter at a time...
Actually we quite enjoy winning a Test Series away from home, in someone else’s back yard. If I remember correctly, I think we did that fairly recently, does that ring any bells with you?

The medal matches are all Saturday. Still time to catch some of the best games.
How is it over?
Dont blink.
Ireland are dominant until they reach the quarters. Then they revert to factory settings
Man it's brutal... but yeah my Kiwi team were no better!
They lost in pool play....
🤣
Meaningless pattern fitting. If ireland draw samoa in the next RWC 1/4 final & win, will people say WOW they finally broke their streak guys, guess now they're Good at Rugby !!!
How do they decide who verses who in the quarter finals
i think France are going to pick up the Gold
It would be the most South African thing ever to go from being the last placed team who lost 2 pool matches and then go on to win gold. Defending 8 phases on your goal line in 7s is monumental, equivalent to defending 50 on the goal line in 15s
Also the fiji last try was 100% a knock on however as far as i know its an actual rule in 7s that the tmo can only intervene for very specific things such as being in touch, dropping the ball over the line or foul play. A bit unlucky but thats the game. Also i just wanted to ask where all those irish pundits and fans who were saying ireland won the series because of the 7s match are because they are very quiet right now
same boat as you, just now getting into 7s and it's really faced paced and unforgiving.
Yeah 100%, I'm enjoying it for a bit of something different aye
@@TwoCentsRugby Hey man I pretend to understand 15s, why not add 7s?
Fiji with three penalties in a row and no card. Missed knock on to boot. Terrible refereeing.
Yay! My Blitzboks have a medal chance!
If we beat France in a Semi-final on Stade de France, we might never be allowed by in Paris ever again? 😮
Soon sa will be banned for winning too much😂
@@kingpower4631 Lol. NZ has Razor now. When the ABs start playing his game plan successfully, they might become one of the most exciting and difficult to beat teams in the world.

@@kingpower4631 I guess...
Naaaa! It's okay. Just watch out when you order a "café crème", the cream might not be cream.
I honestly dont get the fuss around the 7's Olympics. Surely the ultimate in 7's is to win the World Series? If a team is able to keep the ball alive after time is up, play sometimes continues for up to 5 minutes extra, that is 71% of the time of a normal half. Imagine a 15's game continuing for an extra 28 minutes. That just seems dumb as does the 6 man scrum. What is the purpose of that? Is it really worth the sacrifice Hugo Keenan made to play for a few minutes? Dupont barely plays 6 minutes per game? What is the prestige of 7's? Are players like Keenan and Dupont not just hurt by losing the world cup and trying to win something? I just cant get a liking of 7's and I have really tried to.
Sevens is amazing and fast. The Olympic gold has become more prestigious than any sevens trophy. If you like raw attacking rugby, then sevens is for you. If you are new to rugby, sevens is a great introduction to rugby. You will never see so much side steps in 15s like you do in sevens. So as a South African, I love both formats
Like in most sports, Olympic gold is the pinnacle. You only get a shot at it once every four years, which is what makes it so special.
😂😂😂😂😂If south africa can beat france then i think dupont is really gonna hate us
As a French fan, I will wholeheartedly support my team during the game. Regardless of the outcome, we can enjoy together a refreshing cold beer afterwards.😉
@@ruditaunus136 i watched the French springboks semi final so many times, it was such a good game, I've never seen such a fast pased match with so many tries at that level
Oh what could’ve been for us.😢
Haert breaking to loose... 7s is n feast to watch...
Yesssss cmon fiji
Fiji playing average all season, even having their coach replaced, only to go into beast mode in the Olympics have me convinced they were just playing mind games with everybody
USA sometime ago use to kick it long from their 22 and their speedstars would win the race.
7's predictions are far more difficult than 15 a side. France and Fiji must be favorite to advance, but write the Boks off as underdogs your own peril. The booing crowd might galvanized the Boks yet again. At the RWC I was backing the Boks/France winner to win the Tournament and I am going to back these 2 teams again to win Gold. It will be boring if Fiji won it for a 3rd time.
After that quarter final, looks like Fiji's going to take home gold again
They are the best team but showed some serious inconstancy against Ireland. Ireland did commit two errors on start-up kick which put the Fidji back in the game. And that has been their problem this season, they did under-perform many times in key matches after rolling over everybody for 3 matches. But I would be happy for Fidji if they get gold. They deserves some prize and recognition for their contribution to rugby.
When is World Rugby going to address the unsportsmanlike behavior of the French fans,? this whistling and booing is getting out of hand. #rugby #rugbysevens
#moan #kleenex
Literally any bodies game now..I'm just praying Fiji take it to another level and make it 3!!..
Ireland has nobody to blame but themselves. What an error on that routine restart
Yeah restarts I've noticed are even more vital in 7s than 15s
Predictions:
Fiji - Gold
France - Silver
South Africa - Bronze
France Olympic champions 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Blitzbokke Bo❤
I thought the draw was absolutely shocking, pool stage was a irrelevant really, given South Africa could lose both important games and end up still making the semis, whereas NZ out with 3 wins. Should have been just top 4 into semis, would have put more onus on the pool stage too. NZ and Ireland as the best 1st and 2nd place teams given the worst draws also didn't feel fair.
Shutup
@@jpfowlds5921 a fair and well reasoned argument.
I'm sure the rules and formula is clear before any games starts.
@@dn822 oh it is for sure, just doesn't make the most amount of sense. Anyway Fiji have looked the best team and they will likely end up winners in the end
Would 7 top Australian rugby league players win this ?
Tough day to be an Irish-American. Good competition though. I’m betting Fiji-Gold / France-Silver / SA-Bronze
Yeah man I would back Fiji too - but from what I've seen so far, anything could happen
Exciting to watch but I can't take 7s too seriously, it's like flicking a coin, just never know who's going to win. I wrote the Blitzboks off after losing to Ireland, I mean to lose 2 games and then they hammer Japan, beat NZ and get through to the semis 😂
I don't know hey.
I think Ireland are really cursed…there’s no way …quarter finals every damn time 🤦🏾..I feel bad for them(Bok fan)
Yeah well, they don't have O'Keefe and WR to help them going further on...

Aaaah,Ireland and quaterfinals.....
The Irish getting WC flashbacks lol
boks gold
Boks can do it if they turn up
Ireland and quarterfinals…
Strange that we had to play south africa being in the same pool
South Africa should have played Fiji, since Fiji top the whole pool and Southe Africa came in at 8, and New Zealand 2nd shoud have played USA since they were 7th place, Fiji was supposed to play Ireland in the Semi's, Rugby Politics, it is design for France to win Gold,
Are you guys already making excuses for your next defeat? Come on, be serious.
Samoa participation medal 🎉
Don't care who wins, SH ftw!
Imagine being the rest of the French Sevens or 15s team when all anyone talks about is Dupont. It's getting too the point of being a bit ridiculous now. People talked Lomu and Carter and McCaw up in their respective years but it was always about the team first. Maybe one of the reasons why they were so much more successful than the French. It's the Dupont show, not about the teams at all.
Salty Irish fans listen up, it is and always has been the case in 7s that a TMO can only check foul play, touch line and grounding. They are not allowed to check the build up of the try. So knock on or not, that would never ever be checked in 7s.
Don't blame the ref, blame the laws.
After all the players remonstrations the Ref could have asked the TMO to 'check for foul play' - see the incident on the big screen and then change his call - As a ref you just need to think outside the box at times - TO GET A FAIR RESULT
Ireland? Quarterfinals? Say no more.
