See a new video from Two Cents, click on it. Lovely! As a Springbok fan I can’t believe my go to channels are by a Kiwi and an Englishman (EggChasers) 😂
What a team! A Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the British & Irish Lions would be an incredible sight to behold, and this lineup wouldn't disappoint. The selection is full of talented players who have been in top form. I love the surprises in this team, like Siya's inclusion based on his impressive stats this year with the Springboks. I was surprised by Jasper Wiese's stats, whose running stats are better than I expected, but he needs to work on his defensive numbers. I really enjoyed with Albornoz, Mallia, Carreras, and Chocobarres - all exciting and hardworking players. Ratima was a standout for me, bringing a spark to the All Blacks that their other scrum-halves couldn't match. TJ Perenara showed his experience with some crucial back tackles, but maybe needs to zip his lips a bit. Caleb Clarke was a pleasant surprise, earning his spot with his performances. Let's not forget the Aussies, who had a tough competition but still had some individual bright spots. Fraser McReight's mention after just two games is a testament to his potential. Wright had a strong showing at fullback, while Wilson and Bell were quietly impressive. I'm also a fan of Fessler, and Salakaia-Loto had good impact for me too.
Good calls all. I'd add (perhaps controversially) Libbok. He's got the stuff and his ceiling is up there. The next decade or so with SFM and Manie vying at 10 for the Boks. Yes please!
Damn. And that is during a quiet tournament. I thought he looked slower and less energetic than usual and got outshined by Wallace. But damn. Imagine you deliver an average perfomance and it is still world class.
improvement due to their coach being friends with the refs. If the scrums was penalized each game would have had +4 yellow cards and 100 points differences. I love ARG but the ref was their best player. NO SCUM PENALTIES
My wife was like " why are you not freaking out when argentina does something good against south africa" and im like "I like Argentina, good scrappy team."
This is very good for rugby. If they keep improving at this rate they could become a top4 team in the not too distant future. Now if only we could get the Wallabies to resurrect their glorious past.
Thorough list. Guys like Nortje, Kolisi, de Allende and Mallia were some of those really hard workers that is maybe not as flashy(noticeable?) as others in the same position. Also thought Tom Wright was the one Aussie that played well against all opposition.
Amazing what injuries and some stiff healthy competition can do to a player and a team. Ox and Jesse Kriel are perfect examples of that...2 players who have been playing 2nd fiddle to the incumbents for a while now and once the incumbents got injured they both took their opportunities with both hands now and have become the owners of those jerseys whilst the previous incumbents are having a hard to regaining their spots back
They have been incredible. Ox though, he was a known destroyer as part of the Bomb squad, so he was already putting his hand up. And since Kitshoff is five years his senior and we would rather want to keep our favourite Spicy Plum around until 2027, I think we are going to go with Ox as the starting loosehead with Kitshoff coming on off the bench. Kriel and Am, I think the idea is going to be a squad rotation.
Kolbe doesn't get enough recognition come player of the year time. I don't know if it's his consistency that creates familiarity, but he genuinely needs a nomination.
8 out of 15 Boks, but 5 out of 7 (maybe I missed 1, but I only heard 7 replacements) speaks to the incredible depth of talent the Boks have. When not first choice, almost always second choice (prop, hooker, lock, scrum half, fly half)
Interesting about the stats, though the stats is not that simple. There should be different stats for props and locks and scrumhalves and full backs etc. despite the general stats. Then you have to ask which stat is more important for each position and you was spot on in your selection. Kolisi surprised me with his stats. His value as a captain also can't be compared in stats. Two cents rugby's team of the tournament was really the best I've seen this far.
08:39 this sounds so wierd to me. Less tackles because the boks play with more ball, a year ago the boks had more tackles because we played with less ball😅 took me a few seconds to wrap my head around that
I appreciate your stat-based picks Two Cents. So many of the other teams selected by other RUclipsrs clearly favoured those people’s favourite players which I dislike.
The thing about Ardie Savea is that teams are gameplanning for him specifically. I think not enough people have discussed that the Boks and the Pumas shut down J. Barrett and Savea and the ABs were damn near stuck.
I wouldn’t agree with that. ABs were the better team for 60 minutes in both SA tests and humped Arg in the second test. The bench was ineffective, leadership / game management poor in the final 20. That’s where the Boks and Arg were better than the ABs, not by shutting down 8 and 12.
@@DavidSmith-yi8ouardie savea was shut down though he has become a target happens to great players also defense are much better nowerdays except for australia there defense has either gone backwards or has never improved
Did you see the Eggchasers' video about POTY? There has never, in the histroy of the award, been a prop nominated. Never! Absolutely ridiculous and hope Ox can change that.
They will say, but but- Ireland. That said they give NZ any years they can't know what Northern hemisphere to give so maybe this year again may be our year (SA).
@Karma-qt4ji I understand the hype but that award carried through the hype of "a prop hasn't" would be unfair, The rugby world cup final did not count in the player of the year last year, so technically, it should count in this calendar year. In that way how could you NOT award it to PSDT on his form from then. I get it, like the Oscars and "X Got Talent" we get on the hype train story very quickly. But isn't that also unfair to props that didn't win it for a whole years work in the past over Ox 3/4 really good games? I think PSDT has won 5 MOTM awards this year.
Basing choices on stats by minutes played is tricky because, yes numbers could have gone up if they played more, but playing more adds a ton of fatigue and room for error so it's not simple math where you just multiply those stats by those extra minutes, and a player who plays a lot more means they're more important for the team so that adds value imo. Great content as ever mate!!!
Would be interested in seeing those open side stats broken down per match or minutes played. Even with only 2 games McReight's numbers look pretty good, still don't think you should pick him based on only 2/6 games but would be good for speculating about what might have been. Also curious to see what Tizzano looked like considering he was making his debut. Cane played all the games didn't he? Different kind of player but looked to be clearly off his game based on those stats. Interesting that there weren't really any surprises here which can sometimes happen when you're comparing vibes to the stats.
Great vid. Agree with 99% of this team. Would also start Malcolm of the bench for his impact. Was suprised at Kolisi ( but agree with the reasoning) but would start Eben.
Ruan Nortje was just very brave in my opinion, didn't dream of him playing this year but he was really a dependable addition. Taylor at hooker was juaat incredible
Very good team picked and I cannot fault you on your logic. I would have gone for Eben but agree that Taylor was pure class at hooker over Marx. A fun segment to follow every week 🎉
If Ox doesn’t win world player of the year, then I don’t know what must happen for a prop to get the necessary recognition. I mean where did those penalties come from which Pollard kicked in the World Cup? Where does the forward momentum come from for the back line?
Love the team. I would swop out Lomax for Malherbe, obviously. You did ask the question what stat does one look at for props; the answer is scrum penalties. Where it was up to Kitshoff and Ox these last five years to win most of these, its up to the Malherbe and Koch to not concede them. Tighthead prop is both the most demanding task and therefore the most important position on the field. No disrespect to Lomax, but Malherbe is an absolute rock. I agree with Cody Taylor pipping Marx in a starting lineup; Marx does sometimes have a dodgy lineout throw. Marx coming off on the bench though, another matter entirely.
In the same way that you judge a hooker by how well he marshalls the lineouts (esp the front of it & throw accuracy); You judge the fullback primarily on his ability to hold the last line of defence. Marshalling whichever two are back with him, initiating attacks or gaining distance to touch, holding up an attack while the defence returns, that kind of thing. The rest of the general metrics round it out but the aforementioned are critical imho
With the springboks swapping in/out many players, total minutes played for individuals is generally lower. Given that, comparing stats becomes more difficult. If some on has less carries, running meters, turnovers, etc but also got rotated out, a head to head stats comparison does not tell the whole story.
Honestly the only one I disagree with was 15. There were a few others that your stats convinced me you were right. But thought Fassi was absolutely electric this tournament.
Great analysis however I believe Frans and Sasha could have made the starting 15. Very close so it’s understandable. Thanks for the work, enjoying the channel a lot 🇿🇦👍🏽
Kriel was good but defensively was caught out of position in both games against the All Blacks. Fair enough at Ellis Park he shifted to wing after Arendse got injured, but then kept shifting in which created the gaps for Caleb Clarke to score
Mark!!! You looked like a deer in the headlights leaving out BiG Eben😂😂 good for you mate sticking to your process…it’s a big mistake leaving Eben out but you have your reasons…
Loving the stats! Will you ever go on the Aotearoa Rugby Show? Think you’re their missing link.. The Breakdown can suck a fat one they know nothing about Rugby😎
Good XV but man, this is also an indictment on how bad Aussie rugby is currently. They better get themselves together before the Lions tour in 2025 otherwise it’s gonna be a disaster.
Obviously the world cup last year didn't count towards any of the player of the year or team of the year bullshit so it has to count for this year, combined with the mid year tournaments, there is only one player that can get it and it is Ox Nche. No one has been so technically instrumental to a team's success than him. Ffs world rugby give a prop a bells once in a while man, or some cake, but we want player of the year for Nche
I always underrated Tupou Vaa’i, but this season he has proved me wrong. Maybe being a starter suited better than coming off the bench. When he came off the bench, he always came on too late . He just needs to stop applauding when the opposition concedes a penalty..
Just some healthy feedback- it would've helped you to express stats in terms of 'per 80 mins' to help you choosing between players :) instead of saying 'this guy has 10 more tackes but played 2 more games'
Hard to argue with who you’ve picked Mark which is unusual for me 😂 I still think Artie is playing out of position, should be open side flank with Sititi at no. 8
“Not that often you take a winger on his defensive capabilities?”Have to stop you there. A winger will never even be considered if they are not solid under high balls and tackling. Forward ( and scrum half to 2nd center) tackling stats are in high traffic areas ( half the time there running right at you) unlike a wingers, who have to cover speed and space. Way more challenging to make your tackles.
The ABs are starting so look scary again. Losing 3 games is underwhelming for your great nation. But you got some pretty great finds in Ratima, and Wallace. I'd like to see Will on fullback with Caleb and Talea on the wings. That'll be DAMN scary. I think dmac was disappointing. Like he is good. Very good. But for a AB flyhalf he is just a too big step down from Muanga.
If the team if the tournament played one game against a best of the 6 nations team imagine trying to pick the head coach for the rugby championship xv lol😂
Barring a one-point loss against Argentina with a team that left the top players in South Africa and the relative ease with which the Springboks blew through the rest of the matches to win the RC by a wide margin suggests that the statistics used to select this team is flawed. The Argentinians and ABs selected here looked ordinary against the Boks except for Cody Taylor, who made the team, and Ardie Savea, who did not.
Demasiado hacen.
6 missed tackles out of 26 for De Allende, he had 1 very good game and average(poor for him) the rest of the time. Not sure how even looking at your own stats you picked him ahead of Chocobares. I would pick De Allende, but not from these rugby championship games.
Love the channel, but onky comment is: you did not pick McReight as he only played 2 games but picked Ratima, who only played 2 games. Just comment on rationale, not whether they were the best choice. Just a thought to consider choice of hooker: number of lineups won/ lost. Their key role in some respects. You mentioned this statistic for the locks(Vaai). So, it should be considered for hookers. Either way, great stuff.

Codie Taylor was great as a Saffa
Why is succesful line out throws not part of stats for hooker?
Surely Fassi at 15
Ox - Bongi/Marx - Malherbe. Come on, it's not hard.
I Dont think he got allot of game time Championship bit if there is one loose forward I want on my bench for impact its Kwagga Smith

Marx is interesting.. As it was considered he was "off from".
Form*.
Savea at 8 is a better choice. The stats are a little deceiving on that one.
Ok I'm here, give me my stats now please
No eben. Shocker
Saffas in the comments be salty typical.
