that Bongi Mbonambi has the most awesome smile I've noticed - a smile that could take him anywhere, easy to read, a face you could trust - i think? justmyopinion -
Let me tell you quick story about Mbongi. In 2014, he was playing for the Bulls. Although not a standout on the team, I often saw him working out at the Hazeldean Virgin Active. He was always friendly and would greet me. I remember casually asking him if he thought black players would ever get a real chance at the Springbok level. He didn’t answer directly but confidently said, “I’m going to be a Springbok one day.” I thought he was delusional for a couple of reasons: first, Bismarck du Plessis was at his peak, and second, the competition for the hooker position in South Africa was incredibly strong. Third at the time I really thought black players were hard done by at that point (I really thought the coaches did not trust them). Fast forward 10 years, and he’s now a two-time World Cup winner, playing a key leadership role. I was wrong, but more importantly, I learned a valuable lesson from a player who will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greats! P.S. Sorry to make this about race but I hope the story lands that Mbongi is an amazing ambassador for this country at the time I really was disillusioned about the Boks.
What a great story. If I may add this: it cannot be credibly* denied by anyone that he is in that team on 100% merit. He is a humble man, he is a loving man, but he has the heart of a lion and the physique that can smash a normal human being to bits. _* of course there are going to be people that would say the opposite, but remember that there are flat earthers around us too. Their opinions can be rubbished as soon as they speak._
great story, and it makes me smile so much to see how much we have grown, black players playing such a crucial role in the springbok success, the talent is out of this world its just so sad that sooo many black players still dont get the opportunity to make it in rugby. So much talent that just gets flushed.
Nice and relaxed style interview. What genuine guys. Not only for their awesome sporting achievements, but wholesome values and sense of humour to match. Honestly Eben being a vet in another life just speaks to what kind of heart he has. You can see why he and Siya are best friends - Iron sharpens iron yet they both are compassionate people by nature❤️ 🇿🇦
Can never go wrong with spaghetti bolognaise breakfast lunch and supper. I might be a boertjie but i swear i was an Italian in my previous life. Any pasta and i am happy.
O! Cumon mate but his line of questioning was based on that. What was the first question he asked Bongi, when he was asked about his weight or size.. it's called being different and unique
@@kwedini1181😅 ok granted. I would have wanted to know from a professional rugby player if size matters so much or if other things matter more like passion, strength, fitness and speed. Its a thing I have always wanted to know and I would find it fascinating to know what the best players actually think. That's why I was so eager to watch the video. But yes size was brought up a number of times in the interview 👍 and yes it's definitely a different style of questioning
He's been around a lot of Afrikaans people, that's what the rugby culture has been It will change over time Don't take away from his success and will power because of an accent
This interviewer did not feel genuine and looks a bit disrespecful to be honest. These guys are Mammoths in their game, his questions lacked substance. Go Bokke!🇿🇦🥇
Interviewer did a good job balancing the two interviewees.
Wise words from Bongi about learning to deal with the disappointments before finding success. Good life lesson.
Absolute credit to rugby ,two humble superstars

Should have asked them their max weight for different gym exercises. Awesome two guys
Would have loved to have heard that 😃
Their secret lies in Spaghetti Bolognese! 😂
Some questions werent clear
100% size matters ... ask every other rugby team out there that we have physically broken and bent, haha!!
But you didn't ask the question " Does size matter in rugby?" 🤷🏾♂️

Size does matter in all ways talking 😂😂😂😂😂 he was tall enough to accomplish what he did and in other way the size does matter too 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bongi has an Afrikaans accent.
He's been around a lot of Afrikaans people, that's what the rugby culture has been
It will change over time
