I bought a 14 day all line first class rover at the beginning of February and everything you say about Avanti and particularly the staff are spot on. On my travels, I would have to say Avanti had the best 1st class offering out of any of the TOCs I travelled with. The worst 1st class.......for price and the product itself.....was CrossCountry. Great video!
Great video, the class 390's are by far the best trains on the UK rail network. (Mostly due to Virgin Trains). Avanti's Refurbishment certainly adds some missing details but they missed the table lamps! That was one of the best aspects of the 390s first class interior in my opinion.
I picked up this service at Birmingham New Street last Saturday, no catering due to staff sickness. When I got home I had received 2 emails, one saying that it had been cancelled the second that it had been re-instated!!!!
Thank you for this excellent video. I agree with all that you say, and in particular find the Pendolinos far and away the best long distance trains in the U.K. Glad you will use the West Coast route in future from Edinburgh, for whilst it takes longer, the comfort of the Pendolino in comparison to the LNER Azumas is superb ! I too have always found the Avanti on board staff to be very good and most helpful. Many thanks for your report !
Great video last year i travelled from Euston to Blackpool that train did same stops as yours until Preston. I was travelling on a staff pass so it was a freebie. Scenery on the Northern end of your journey really was worth looking at.
Looks a good trip even if not the quickest route. Good to see a train company who feels a first class premium price should offer a bit more than a wider seat and a window blind. Section through The Midlands looked “picturesque…”
I have thought of travelling to Edinburgh from southern England using Avanti's direct service. Avanti advised that in order to buy an off peak return on this route I would need to buy an off peak return from southern England to Carlisle and another off peak return from Carlisle to Edinburgh. If an Avanti direct service to Edinburgh is cancelled, it is possible to change at Carlisle for a TPE to Edinburgh. The Avanti standard class experience is massively better than LNER Azuma in standard class. The seats on the Azuma cause me circulation problems on very long journeys.
Great Video. Looks like you got well looked after on your journey from Edinburgh to London. Myself and the Mrs were in Brighton and we'd gone down on National Express and planning to return via National Express which was the intention. Unfortunately didn't quite work out like that, on the last evening before we were due to travel home my wife broke her ankle. She spent most the day in a&e. I had to book an extra night in the hotel which was a Friday night we had to find another way to get home, so I got 2 singles from Brighton to Preston via London costing an eye watering £223 first class, we missed our intended train at Euston and we got put onto a later train because the train from Brighton got cancelled at Haywards Heath. We got onto the train at Euston and on departure we got served with a cup of tea and a sandwich as it was a Saturday, he came down a little later with a couple of cans of Pepsi Max. That was it until we were 10 minutes from Preston I was livid. Just my experience.
Really enjoyable video with lots of detail. However I would have thought Avanti would have served a more compehensive catering on this train. I mean its revamped F class was supposed to emulate Business Premier on Eurostar or Thalys. Otherwise canny travellers might have been tempted to book Standard Premium which provides F class seating but minus the frills.
Yes "at present" but consider these units were supposed to run at 140 when they were delivered to VT many years ago. Spending cutbacks put paid to that !
This is the direct service that Avanti West Coast need to be operating from Manchester Victoria to Holyhead, timed to meet ferry check-in for Dublin and meeting ferry arrivals at Holyhead from Dublin, even after midnight - I’m not even bothered about express nor first class, but it does need to be direct - TfW’s current SailRail offering is terrible and involves the hassle of changing trains at Chester, Crewe or Lladnuo from the totally unsuitable station of Manchester Piccadilly, with tiny and overcrowded trains when they know perfectly well that most of their passengers are travelling SailRail - At Manchester Piccadilly, I’ve often jumped on a Northern Service to Chester and at Chester, I’ve jumped on an Avanti service to Holyhead in order to avoid missing check-in for the Ferry at Holyhead rather than wait for TfW to get thier act together - Network Rail really need to get this sorted AQAP if they want to provide a viable and sustainable alternative to flying and air travel in these days of climate change and even Irish Rail’s trains are better than them

Hi mate, thanks fir watching - appreciated. Yeah I agree, the table lamps were a very nice touch..

I love the northern WCML! And this is a nice counterpoint to all the bad press Avanti have got in the past few years.
hi mate, thanks for watching, appreciated
London Waverley, my favourite station 😂
Even better than Edinburgh Euston?
Thanks for watching, it a new station linked by a tunnel - have you not heard of it? 😂
Clearly the UK needs to build some reservoirs!
Of course I got an Avanti advert whilst watching this! 😃 Great video.
😂😂
Nice video! Always happy to accompany you on one of your trips! Hope you enjoyed your show.
Ho mate, thanks for watching, much appreciated - yes it was excellent, certainly recommend it.

Hi mate, thanks for watching, very much appreciated.
Fab video. FYI it's not Penrith NL, but Oxenholme Lake District where change for Northern services to Kendal and Windermere.
Hi mate, thanks for watching, much appreciated. Yeah, I realised that once it got uploaded.

Great video! I have done this route before but from my local station of Rugby to Edinburgh.
hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated
They are one of the best trains in the UK 🇬🇧 from Alan in Lowestoft buddy 😊
Thanks for watching mate, very much appreciated.
I was on this service down to birmingham when it was still under virgin. It's an interesting experience
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated.

Alternstively, using the same ticket combination one can get the usual Avanti rapid service to Carlisle and then get a TPE service to Edinburgh.
This is a good video and I have enjoyed watching it.
I think you meant to state Edinburgh Waverley to London Euston in the caption.
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated. Yeah slight mistake 😂
Great Video.

Ah the Back To The Future musical! What did you think to it? I saw it in January for the first time and loved it!
Hi mate - thanks for watching, much appreciated. M musicals are not usually my thing but this was excellent, I'd certainly recommend it.
Still prefer Virgin! And I guess the staff are still the same? They were great on Virgin too. (Unless you got a London crew)
Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated.
Fair play to Avanti for delivering a great service on your journey, not always the case with them, unfortunately. Enjoyed the video 🙂
Thanks for watching mate - appreciated.

Sandwell & Dudley hell yeah 🎉
Class 390s have a top speed of 140 mph not 125. Line speed limits them to 125, at present.
Yes "at present" but consider these units were supposed to run at 140 when they were delivered to VT many years ago. Spending cutbacks put paid to that !
Nice video . What about the lounge in Euston?
Pendliones are the best
Enjoy your videos and just subscribed! I'm just wondering have you done Edinburgh to London on LNER yet?
Hi matek, thanks for watching and thanks fir subscribing, very much appreciated
I never knew Avanti did trains from Edinburgh to London. I thought it was only LNER or Lumo
Launched a few years ago. Promoted to those travelling to or from WCML destinations.
Great video. How long did the journey take Edinburgh Waverley to London Euston
Thsnks fior watching, appreciated. the whole journey was just over 6hrs.
Where is london Waverley station because they is no such station
Nor sure what you mean bud 😂😂

The Train Operators still think it is okay to run services with filthy windows
Great video but sad that they constantly expose us to all their fear porn announcements
thanks for watching, appreciated.
What a sad looking sandwich!
a soogy sandwhich for 6 hours, what a rip off!
He got a hot meal further in the journey.
Got more that a sandwich
