Ridden this route many times but only ever southbound from Newcastle. It's definitely better in the day since you can grab food at the stop in Leeds - next door to Kirkgate Market.

I did this overnight coach back at end of March and I was surprised how busy it was. I wondered if we were on the same bus because I went back on Easter Sunday
