WEMYSS BAY RAILWAY STATION IS TOTALLY WORTH A VISIT, PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST FINEST EXAMPLES OF VICTORIAN RAILWAY ARCHITECTURE IN SCOTLAND, THE FERRY RIDE TO ROTHESAY IS OK AND A VISIT TO THE VICTORIAN TOILETS IS OK, AFTER THAT SAY NO MORE.
Can confirm. Went from Stansted to Leicester early July 2024. There were free drinks (snacks available, but they had to be paid for). The tea was lukewarm. I was by myself and then joined by a 60+ business lady at Cambridge plus two Irish 'travellers' - a man and woman. They had no tickets. They claimed they had no time. The lady told me she was waiting more than 20 mins on the same platform as them. So they had to buy a ticket from the conductor for Cambridge to Ely (when the conductor came round) and then booked online for Ely to Birmingham. The conductor told them they'd have to move. He left. 20 mins they were still there, so the business lady went to inform me. To his credit he came after 5 mins and gestured for them to leave and they did. The 1st class tickets on cross Country are generally much cheaper than Avanti / LNER - no surprise there, but it is the worst 1st class service I've bought. I am 60 so I get a 33% discount - there's no way I pay the full whack. Lukewarm tea without even a Mars bar is quite pathetic, though the trolley service didn't have much on offer. I wanted to avoid getting the Stansted Express to London, then changing to St Pancras for the service to Leicester - I had a medium suitcase and a small carry-on one and a small rucksack - who wants to negotiate changing from Liverpool St to St Pancras in mid-July. I was also surprised the Cross Country service only had four coaches.
Class 800 seating is terrible. Why didn't they adopt the green car seats of the Japanese Shinkansen?
I believe I was your ticket examiner on this journey as I reckon my voice in one of the clips 😄
Good case for sound limiting earphones
Thank you
Great review. I was thinking of catching a flight from Vienna to Munich - Just in Munich for 1 night before flying out. Is it better to catch the train instead?
There isn't a link to the Glasgow Underground system from GLC. Downstairs in Glasgow central Low level (platforms 16 and 17) which are just normal commuter rail lines. Nearest Subway station is along the road at St Enoch's
I really enjoy your videos, just a wee point though (and one I have with most RUclipsrs) , why don’t you have e-tickets on your phone, much easier than using dodgy machines at train stations….
M-tickets ? That's only another way for the phone to run out of battery in my experience.
You can buy a direct ticket to Rothesay. Wemyss as in Wemyss Bay is pronounced Weems.
Thanks for watching, how exactly did I pronounce it? Surely wasn’t too far of Weems at all!?
You pronounced it "Wymes"...its "Weems" :) @@TheGeordieTravels
What a lovely journey and lovely places 😊
Thanks for watching mate, very much appreciated. A very nice part of the world.
Glad you enjoyed! There is a rail&sail ticket meaning with a railcard it's possible to do all this for £14.20 return .
Funny enough I went on the line from Glasgow to Wemyss Bay for the first time about a month ago, really to see the station itself, though it was heavy rain when I was there, coming from Inverness where we don’t have electrified trains, it was a bit of a novelty being on an modern electric train too 😊. Would definitely like to have an explore of the islands in that part of the world too.
Agree. Its an excellent day out, and the price is a bargain. I enjoy your videos. I like the way you let the shot continue:: the sequence out of Glasgow Central and across the Clyde , without a break, is just what i like. the sequences on the ferry were also good to watch. One of my favourite trips!
Enjoyed the video but pronouncing scottish towns not for everyone we dont make it easy 😄
SBB not at all the best service. Few ticket checkers are absolutely rubbish. They simply love to snatch money specially from the Asian people. Though Swiss people are earning more from Asian people actually. Because every year students are visitors come in Switzerland specially. I dont know why. There are many country in this world are cheaper to stay in a good way. And the level of their behaviour absolutely rough cruel and waiting to snatch money by hook or by crook. Absolutely SBB is the rubbish and specially in Zurich City. Yes I am a Swiss and I love my Country but avoid mostly SBB. Our family members are spreaded in many countries and we use flights or car drive🤘
Shame that that shelter on the south bound platform at Chathill is all boarded up.I think that the one at Acklington is too.
sir,how much for ticket brussels to amsterdam?
Thanks for watching - appreciated. Tickets were 25E plus a small booking fee i think
Thank you for posting this, you have done a great job on the production. As I have my own channel I know what it takes to produce a video of this calibre. Fyi I was born in Partickbthen moved to Knightswood (Westerton Station), played football all around that area and served my apprenticeship in John Brian’s shipyard. Your attention to detail of the landscape and lineside /station coverage will provide lots of information for the modeller. I hope you enjoyed the trip as much as I did. Cheers Charlie
Fabulous video. I know this area so well and these ferries
Thanks for watching - very much appreciated.
If LNER kept the HSTs operating on the Highland Chieftain that would be so much better
Thanks for watching - appreciated. Agree with that.
Do they somewhere you can watch the Euros?
Thanks for watching - appreciated. Sorry about the late reply, i did not see any tv's apart from in the room
Enjoyable video 👍
Thanks for watching - very much appreciated.

Chance are if you tried to repeat the same trip another 5 times it would be cancelled twice due to lack of train crew. did Edinburgh to Newcastle with Lumo for 8 quid last year seats were better than L.N.E.R and trans pennine excuse
My brother disagrees because he traveled with lumo and he said never again
Thanks for watching - appreciated.
Good video with lots of detail. Find it hard to believe that one of the Beeching Plan's recommendations was that Newcastle-Edinburgh be either closed or downgraded (to a regional route) with England-Scotland mainline trains taking the WCML. And today we have four operators (including Lumo) on this sector.
Thanks for watching - very much appreciated.
The F Seats like on LNER are passable. The Standard Class seats are concrete ironing boards. Horrible. Well done on picking one of the only sunny days we’ve had this year for your trip up to Edinburgh. 😂
That breakfast item was tiny!
Thanks for watching - appreciated, filled me up - just.....
Very interesting. I like the look externally and the livery. I still haven't forgiven Transpennine for withdrawing the 68's/November 3's on the Scarborough route. Thankfully I did at least manage to get one trip from Scarborough to York last summer - involved a day excursion by coach from Skegness to York, as well as the bus from York to Scarborough. Turned into an unintended Transport Challenge and, fortunately, all went well 😂
Thanks for watching - appreciated.
Good watch on one of my favourite lines.
Thanks for watching - appreciated.
Great video, you must really hate Sunderland lol😂
Lol, it's not that bad - I used to holiday up that way a few years ago at Roker a few times and later at Seaburn 😊
Thanks for watching - appreciated, haha - just a bit of local banter
Visually this was good to watch. The long sequence out of Newcastle really set the scene, and the early morning crossing of the Tweed was superb. I have never seen those reflections on the newer road bridge before!
Thanks for watching - appreciated.
the longer the class 720s stay the more we realize, it's bad its awful
I felt for you on that one; a noisy family, screaming brat, broken A/C and poor facilities like that hand dryer not working. Clearly a 2 car unit is insufficient for a service this long. Although TfW can't too much about the first two points, they should really improve on the others.
Hi mate, thanks fir watching - appreciated.
That's my main route to London. We get on at Warwick Parkway. It's normally £30 return for an adult and 2 children and often includes unlimited tube and bus travel around London too.
thanks for watching - appreciated.
It is still only a 65mph average.
Excellent camera work 👍 Job well done! Even though built by Hitachi, Azuma, is the poor cousin of trains in Japan ~ Thanks
Thanks for watching mate, appreciated.
An Gearasdan or Fort William in gaelic is my original hometown and a better journey you will nevr have than by coach to that town in Lochaber district
Locals of inverness have been known to refer to it as inversnecky

I did this overnight coach back at end of March and I was surprised how busy it was. I wondered if we were on the same bus because I went back on Easter Sunday
Hell is...other people!
Thanks for watching - agreed
It's one of my favourite train journeys this. Haltwhistle and the likes are beautiful. Old cast iron bridges.
Thanks for watching. Appreciated
That was a bit of an eye opener!! I never heard of that Birmingham station!!
hi mate, thanks for watching - every day is a learning curve 😀
My preferred route down to London. Avoids the ghastly Euston and it's a prettier route through the leafy Chilterns.
Will do the roundtrip as you did, in September this year. I´m danish and will flying to Inverness and return via Aberdeen. Nice Video. 😀
Its a lovely journey, thanks for watching.
Great video! These are my local trains as I live near Leamington Spa and I do really like them 😁
Thanks fir watching mate, appreciated
Interesting watch thanks 👍
Thanks fir watching - appreciated
