It's one of my favourite train journeys this. Haltwhistle and the likes are beautiful. Old cast iron bridges.

    Nice video - many thanks.
RMT allowing, I'll be doing this journey myself in September, in the context of a ride on the Settle to Carlisle line, then across to Newcastle, and then back to Yorkshire with LNER.
We've only recently discovered Northumberland - it's generally been 'drive through' territory on the way to Scotland. But more recently we've stayed in the Tyne Valley near Hexham, and also further north midway between Alnwick and Berwick. Beautiful countryside.

Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreciated. Northumberland is a lovely part of the UK, spoilt for choice with the rolling countryside and beaches. Enjoy exploring.

Nice opening scene from Nelson Bridge - just by the path of the former avoiding line, until the derailment in 1984.

Great video! I'm a regular leisure user on the TVL and can recommend the Northern 'North Country Rover' (4 in 8 days) for £75.85 including Railcard - fantastic value! I'm based in Lancaster and can get right over to Whitby, which is best done via Scarborough and then the Coastliner bus up to Whitby, which gives you plenty time in Whitby before the train leaves at 4pm.
Anyway - what I meant to say is - if you are sitting at a NORTH-facing window travelling east, you will see Hadrian's Wall come in diagonally from the NW right up to the railway just before (the closed) Gilsland Station.

Some ScotRail trains also operate from Carlisle to Newcastle or is it just Northern and occasionally TransPennine Express.

It's very scenic, and your fare was excellent.
If I could pay £10 more not to hear the moronic "See it say it sorted" mantra, I would.

Thanks for watching, much appreciated. Agree with that, gets right on my nerves at times.
