The stark difference between "Mr Birchum" and "King of the Hill", despite it being the same joke of "Old school conservative dad living in the changing modern day" is the fact that when Hank got upset about something, the joke was "Hank's upset by the changing times". In "Mr Bircham", the joke is "He's upset and you should be too and the thing he's upset about is wrong and should be mocked". Hank is old fashioned and resistant to the changing world and often times confused and frustrated, but rarely angry at it. Meanwhile conservative humor now is "Things that are different are bad and woke and should be made made fun of and hated specifically to own the libs"
Hank Hill works because he's someone we all know. An aging man confused by a changing world but he's never malicious he's just struggling but tries to learn and his heart is usually in the right place. He's someone you can understand. Mr. Birchum is just telling people to dig their heels in when they're angry and his heart isn't in the right place because it's inflamed from a mixture of a lard diet and morning scotch because he think it'll own the libs.
Hank hill is also receptive to change. Often times he's resistant but very commonly learns to accept what he can't control. Of course there are also times where he's the one that puts things right, like kicking bobbys bosses ass.
Hilarious that one of the Daily Wire founders was like, “for decades no network would touch this show because it’s so offensive”… like after DECADES at some point you gotta wonder if the show just isn’t funny
Yeah considering South Park is still around and they anger the type of people who made this show I doubt it was because it was offensive....it was probably the fact it was offensive AND not funny.
@Ceeeeee451 He used to use the character on Crank Yankers, a Comedy Central show where comedians would make real prank calls to random people. That was definitely at least better than what he's doing now.
A quote from Destroy All Humans. "Over the eons, we have learned to clone ourselves, but with each iteration, the information degrades and the results are increasingly unpredictable." Take out the "un" in the last word and it fits what these shows have become.
That’s not fair because there are tons of great shows that got only one season. I refuse to lump this garbage in with Wolverine and the X-Men or Clone High’s original run
How is it worse than Brickleberry? I remember when I first looked at BB I thought, "Okay, I genuinely don't think I'll hate an art style more than this one, it looks like it was drawn on a napkin". This is just so...bland. At least BB was KINDA distinct with how shitty it was. This is boring

@@traditionalempress6961 Honestly, adapting a centuries old fairy tell where a man kisses an unconscious woman (or was that sleeping beauty, I can never tell because they're basically the same story sans dwarves) should be a slam dunk in terms of how easy it is to adapt.
Producers tend to push it, the usual thing of "if our show is like this one it'll be just as successful." Its why the moment Rick and Morty came out and got big, suddenly we got shows like Inside Job or that star trek one that went with the same style. There's also a kind of "industry standard" style that gets around based on the standards of what networks want at the time. Say 80s kids shows having a certain look so the toys were easy to make from one mould, 90s shows using traditional styles inspired by looney tunes/rubberhose etc cus of the "back to basics" ethos of the time. A lot of producers these days just go "family guy big, make it look that." I remember hearing one show with kind of a different look, can't remember the name, did it's pitch and pilot to look like family guy, but once it was picked up just changed the style to what the creators actually wanted to do.
The funniest part about anti-woke comedy from big money conservative platforms like the Daily Wire is how they hype themselves up as these politically incorrect, fearless comedians, but then be like "But we get a lot of money from Evangelical groups, so there's not going to be any actual edge to this."
The funniest part of this entire situation is how so many people are up in arms about this cartoon saying shit like "Pfft, I'm not offended by this cartoon!" over and over again like they're trying to make a conscious effort to convince people they're not. All you're doing is showing how easily taunted you were when you heard that this cartoon was supposed to "trigger the libs" like you lmfao. You're right though, this cartoon is stupid, no better than Paradise PD, and honestly there's no point in getting this upset by it.
Right!! I'm glad someone mentioned this. He's coded and designed to look like he's in his 50 or just turned 50. Are we supposed to believe this character is in his 70s?👀🙄
Well the character originated from years ago and the show itself was pitched to several channels. So clearly this detail wasn't changed in development.
It’s weird how so many things that market themselves with how edgy they are, are always way tamer than plenty of mainstream shows like South Park or always sunny
Whats especially hilarious, is that now the Daily Wire audience is rejecting this show for being "woke". This show dares to have black characters, and even gay characters, happily coexisting as if they *gasps* belong. Daily Wire has created an audience that they can't keep up with.
Imagine calling people snowflake while being triggered by people who are just existent how these people even live pass their teen age is beyond me. I kinda doubt the people who run Daily Wire even believe most the shit that they preach they pretty much just make money out of stupid extremist
3:53 You notice how every show ever always portrays the internet as just never-ending loads of cat videos? Like in the 2010’s this probably would be revelant but nowadays the joke is just extremely overdone
The funniest thing to come from Mr Birchum is how their target audience reacted to a gay character being in their show, even tho the show uses the character to make fun of gay people lmao
It reminds me of a while back when The Daily Wire had to fire some people for being massively antisemitic, because that is apparently not appropriate behavior from the site that constantly frames societal problems as an intentional plan from a nebulous "other".
It's basically that advertising of earthbound where they said it stinks reversed in the way that Birchum presented it as a good thing when the product was bullshit as opposed to Earthbound literally advertising as "this game stinks" and then being an absolute classic.

It shows a grey area to these sorts of issues in a proper way without shoving it in your face.
Fun fact: Ben Shapiro was a failed screenwriter before becoming a professional grifter and a puppet for billionaires. You can tell because this show is so god awful
Just like Steven Crowder failed as a comedian and Candace Owens also failed at another endeavour. There's a failure-to-conservative-mouthpiece pipeline.
They’re all Zionist shills. You can tell the difference between anyone actually right leaning and a controlled sycophant by how much they worship Israel’s genocidal balls.
It’s so funny how they marketed this show as super edgy even though something like smiling friends or even invincible are far more edgy than anything this show does.
Smiling Friends is genuinely creative and hilarious with unique situations in every episode. Invincible is a brutal, fun, and very emotional story about a guy wrestling with his father. This? This is just a Family Guy ripoff with even worse political commentary, but at least family guy had the balls to go all out for its bits, even if they didn’t always land.
smiling friends ended its first season with a main character being saved from the devil by god. THey won before this shit even crossed the starting line.
I will never understand why most adult animated shows have the most bland, generic, and basic character design ever, I wouldn't even call it basic, it's disgusting, can't wait for DailyWire + to fall off for good, first we had a Bluey ripoff, now we have a 4th Brickleberry clone. Beautiful. And it's depressing too because I know a lot of good adult shows with a very unique art style, Smiling Friends for example, but shows like this get overshadowed with stuff like Brickleberry or whatever, it's depressing.
zach from oneyplays said it pretty well; "The problem with animated shows these days it they're made by people who dont care about the medium, they just see animation as an easier way to make shows" ok that wasnt the exact quote but you get what i mean
King of The Hill was also more nunced in its politics. They humanized Conservatives and made fun of liberals but there were also episodes where they humanized the liberal view point. There was even an episode when peggy became freinds with a drag queen who was betrayed as a good person. Peggy was even called out for almost dumping the freindship because she was to judgmental after she found out. You can tell this show is never going to have an episode were liberals and progressives are going to be portrayed as anything but horrible, or stupid or both. They also still took shots at conservatives. Hanks dad, who was even further to the right then him, is betrayed as a miserable abusive tyrant. Hank didn't want to be anything like him and we even rooted for him over his father. Also Hank was a likable character. He had his flaws but he also had a good heart, cared about others and strong moral compass. You liked him for being more traditional and conservative. Birchum not so much.
i don't think any single show with this kind of premise has ever come out any good. No, I don't count KOTH, because KOTH isn't this kind of show, it's just striking an actual balance between "the old fuddie duddies aren't stupid" and "the old fuddie duddies still have a lot to learn just like the rest of us"
This is the problem with these "conservative" shows. Theyre more focused on making political commentary and bashing the left than actually making a good show with interesting and 'real'characters. Which is ironic by how they whine about shows that get alot of attention being 'left propaganda' when really the show is most likely just good. Its like theyre trying to combat the shows they think are propaganda with their own propaganda, and are shocked to find it doesnt do well. Im sure they then would blame the left again for creating a 'brainwashed society' for not liking their garbage.
@@tailsprowerfan2729South park seems to poke fun at everyone and everything though, so i feel like thats a bad example to give, i never really thought of southpark as a purely conservative. I claimed this show as a 'conservative show' in my post because thats what the show seems to market itself as by blatantly bashing the left. Its very on the nose. You can be conservative and create a show, thats obvious. But imo you should make a show to make a show. Not to push an agenda. Its the same for liberals. (Velma comes to mind) Issue is alot of conservatives seem to scream out in horror that 'liberals are pushing their agenda' in instances where there is a story about a gay person or trans person, just the idea that there could be a story about a gay person (who exist in real life, what a shock) is somehow propaganda for their children. Thats what i mean by they are trying to combat propaganda with their own propaganda. I don’t care enough to check this, but apparently there is a gay character that gets gay jokes made about him, but part of their audience is enraged that a gay character even exists in the show lol
Watched first two episodes. There are three gay characters so far, one is Bircham's friend from the navy, the other two are friends of Birchum's rival and they are both from the army. But they all bond over beer at a bar where they celebrate veteran's day in the second episode. If anything, they showed better friendship between gay and straight people here than in Velma. The big joke is that Birchum asked the guy to prepare elastic pants for them because he is gay and the gay guy says that other guys are attractice. That's it. If it was supposed to be offensive, then they have failed miserably. I think that is why the nutjobs are mad about. The main character is friends with a gay guy, doesn't hate gays, and the gays are veterans and decent people. Like, even the gays in this show hate the social justice warrior guy
I just love all the self-owning they did. They claimed that for decades, no one would go near the show due to apparently “offending the wrong people” 1. Saying that you signed off on a show nobody wanted for decades is not the own you think it is. 2. I thought the narrative they liked to push was that “snowflakes” were created in 2016 and before that it was anything goes? So if nobody was offended until the 2010s or so, why were the networks scared of offense? I will never get tired of seeing the Wire shoot themselves in the foot over and over again.
Because it isn't humor, it's hate. There is no intention in making anyone laugh but rather having the audience point and say "wow I hate those things too"
Also, one thing that makes the show even worse but is peak “conservative comedy” Birchum is hated by everyone. All the kids make fun of him, the staff and adults barley respect him (until they side with him from writer contrivance) He’s a jerk to everyone, and is really just a miserable person. And the show sells that as a good thing, and openly celebrates him being an irredeemable POS. Cause conservative comedy thinks being a genuine A-hole and or seen as a horrible person is a good thing, out of cope. To them, that’s the standard of conservative comedy, everything you say is true, all your comedy is just reality, therefore if you’re an a-hole and or hated for being a truth teller, that’s how you know you’re right.
So surprisingly, I think this was supposed to be a spinoff of a show called Crank Yankers, a prank call/puppet show, whom the character Birchum comes from. In that show, he was more characterized as a boomer stereotype who complained about his wife and Vietnam
I want a show following Wanda Sykes character who found shit in her car after getting it detailed, and watch her tackle various life issues/get into more customer service fiascos.
Yeah I remember seeing the aborted pilot for it and I just saw it as a crappier right wing king of the hill knock off. I didn’t see a market for this show then and I still don’t. I didn’t even KNOW about the daily wire having a streaming service until this video.

There are women in the show that even... do things... and have jobs of their own.... His wife is a real-estate agent who probably makes a hell of a lot more money than a wood-shop teacher (which is a no-no!) And his daughter wants to cut wood too! (Isn't that a man's job? Shouldn't her dream job be a wife and mother? ) I don't know.... this show is looking pretty "woke"....
What makes me pissed off to this very day is that back then people complained how Disney doesn’t have lgbt rep which this may sound controversial, you shouldn’t force people to have diversity in stories. So when Disney did listen by making Baymax the series and Strange World, people still got offended for the lgbt rep. It’s hypocritical and it shows you can’t satisfy the public. I feel bad for those animators now people don’t really care for Disney films and Wish flopped. I wish I can go back to 2021 and Encanto craze since that the last time was Disney was so popular.
Speaking of his wife and daughter.... why do they wear pants and non-feminine colors? I know the daughter is an insert that's supposed to blindly look up to her father, but knowing many conservatives in my life, that's not "god's womanly plan." She should look up more to her mother, instead. Why is the principal a woman? Going by the conservative culture, this makes no sense. But I know why they do it. They aren't that daft where they can't see they have to put on SOME kind of mask in the modern world. Albeit a very, very, very, very, very, very, VERY flimsy one.
Im starting to wonder, are these type of shows actually aim towards adults or kids who thinks swearing and saying crude jokes every 5 seconds is funny.
because they aren't actually aimed at adults (other than manchildren) they're aimed at the brand of edgy teenagers who stayed up way too late to watch Adult Swim and got an extreme shock-centric sense of humor. And in this case are also being groomed into conservative voters.
I think it's because kids shows need to be eye-catching, and work within their limitations. An adult show will just go for the concept directly with no interesting spin on it, causing it to be lackluster. e.g., a kids show may make a clever sex joke that works around the censors, while an adult show will just be blunt with it because it can be literal with said joke.
Maturity is about growth. Kids shows teach lessons. Adult cartoons lampoon lessons for (often cruel) indulgence. Compare the discussion of violence in Avatar: The Last Airbender to recent Family Guy Episodes. People die in both and in large amounts. But which one has a lesson?
I believe part of it is due to animation still being seen as "kid's media" and adults are ashamed to be seen as childish. So to compensate, they go all out on the blood, sex, and crudeness because obviously kids wouldn't be watching that, in theory. Also, these shows are usually watched by edgy middle school boys and the creators know that.
This show is a good example of why alt right jokes are so unfunny. It’s just the same old, “Let’s attack a minority and represent it as a person because that’s funny.” No, it just screams tired and old.
King of the Hill works because while the characters might be conservative, at the end of the day they aren't hateful conservatives. They aren't going out of their way to try and "own" anyone, and they push back against bullies on both sides. The characters in King of the Hill aren't judgmental towards others, they are just living their lives and reacting to outside forces that interfere with that. Probably the closest thing we get to an "anti-woke" episode in King of the Hill is the one where the guy wants to make a historically accurate depiction of the Alamo and takes it a bit too far, making Davy Crocket a coward that couldn't wait to surrender. Hank doesn't sit there and complain about pansy liberals (woke wasn't a term at the time), he gets upset because it goes against his Texan pride, but even though he hates it, he still accepts some of the hard lessons, then talks about why he still treasures the history and lets it proceed. We see the characters accept Dale's gay father, Bobby's love for theatre, Bill's need for companionship, Dale's crazy conspiracies, Nancy's unfaithfulness, and more. At the end of the day, King of the Hill works because the main message is to just be a kind and accepting person.
I don't like Hazbin Hotel, but I'll give the creators credit, they at least tried to be creative with the visuals and had ambition. This one is just a cheap glorified attempt to take potshots are liberals/ people of the left.
Bro as an American i cannot STAND Daily Wire.
This should be top comment. Very well said.
Hank hill is also receptive to change. Often times he's resistant but very commonly learns to accept what he can't control. Of course there are also times where he's the one that puts things right, like kicking bobbys bosses ass.

This is the problem with these "conservative" shows. Theyre more focused on making political commentary and bashing the left than actually making a good show with interesting and 'real'characters. @sjwsmasher4398
What are you whining about?
What makes me pissed off to this very day is that back then people complained how Disney doesn’t have lgbt rep which this may sound controversial, you shouldn’t force people to have diversity in stories. So when Disney did listen by making Baymax the series and Strange World, people still got offended for the lgbt rep. It’s hypocritical and it shows you can’t satisfy the public. I feel bad for those animators now people don’t really care for Disney films and Wish flopped. I wish I can go back to 2021 and Encanto craze since that the last time was Disney was so popular.
@sjwsmasher4398 Wow I didn't know that broken records could make accounts.
A teacher you say? In a union? WOOOOOKE!
Why are adult animated shows less mature than kids animated shows?
They can't actually do anything edgy because their audience is offended by bad words and sex.
It’s ironic 😂
And the existence of gay people, which apparently bit them in the ass in this case.
And also minorities being represented even tho back then people wanted diversity in media
