@@star80doessdastuff In many cases it isn't all that buggy because the window has a fill color the OS automatically paints on its background.
UI duplication of the Snipping Tool may be due to having a specific VRAM allocation.
It was interesting doing it with the Metro apps in Windows 8.1, and with the system UI on all of Windows versions.
The metro stuff resizes correctly, because it's designed to work with multiple screen resolutions, which is basically the same thing as resizing, but for the whole screen if you think about it
In windows 10, the Metro apps run in a Metro mode (you can see a button that acts as replacement charms bar and a full screen button in the title bar) and they can be resized just fine. Also stardock made a program that lets you run Metro apps in windowed mode on Windwos 8 using some DWM trickery.

So Windows 8 fiasco could've been easily avoided by having a smaller Start screen on left bottom, like any other Start menu.
Only if the power button is added early.
I mean, it’s design is good, but not at that time. Take MacOS and GNOME as an example, they provides a semi-fullscreen experience too.
I remember seeing a screenshot from Stardock [?] showing a program that basically did exactly that (probably Start8 or something like that). It was probably as simple as "start on boot, when Explorer loads, resize the Start screen's window".

I really enjoyed how much smooth Win8.1 was.
Even had it on a 2GB Intel Atom cheap tablet and I was amazed on how good it was.
Same with early Windows 10 versions
Went from 1511 to 1607, it's fast and probrably even more lightweight than Windows 7. 1703 and 1709, maybe slightly less so (still really smooth), went back to Windows 7 after a Windows Update failure, then upgraded to Win10 1909. It went to hell and back. Went to Windows 7 again due to OpenGL problems.
Software is artifically refusing to launch for older Windows 10 versions, even if they run under Windows 7... Even worse so for Windows 8.0. Would run 1511/1709 if I could.
Since Windows is assiocated with PCs, when Windows 12 comes around and does a bunch of bad things, more apps will only be avaliable through mobile and with websites forcing 2FA Authenticator and banks requiring SMS, by this point why use a PC.

I think sidebar didn't crash in Win7, it was just hidden behind the resized window, so Alt+Tab or closing the resized window would have brought control back to the sidebar program.
Windows 8 could be a great OS if they just make the Metro start 70% size in the center and add some Gaussian blur around it

Window size can't be negative, it's an unsigned integer which means it can only be a positive whole number

@@ArduinoTurkBatu it won't work, there's no way to do it but if you were to try then think: say -2 as a signed integer in binary is 110 (the first one determines its negative then the following numbers is the actual number) then instead of it being seen as -2, it'll be taken literally as binary 110 which is 6

Yes, you can adjust the size and position by changing the numbers in the AutoHotkey script.
Start8 should be able to do this natively.

What about pressing numpad 5 on the normal desktop? Like desktop is just explorer, so will resizing the desktop reveal what human eyes were not supposed to see?
The desktop consists of multiple layers, the uppermost is just a transparent explorer window (literally called "folder view" if you were to enable the titlebar), under that there's a WorkerW window that displays the wallpaper, and underneath that is a Program Manager window that cannot be manipulated (this also displays the wallpaper but it might just be a visual glitch)

You can actually do it with Task Manager (except certain apps shown in Windows 8.1+ in "What happens if you run explorer.exe from the login screen in different versions of Windows").
Most apps (if not all) just minimize/hide. You also cannot interact with ones that hide themselves in taskbar/task switcher.
The ones that doesn't minimize by clicking the taskbar icon again are misconfigured by not listening to window manager minimize call. They can always call it themselves tho (like Spotify).
It just basically means that standard non-resizable apps implement WM_PAINT message in absolute coordinates which is fine for the default UI.

There's an error in the video. You are installing v2 of AutoHotkey, but you write the script in v1.1 syntax, which makes the script incompatible for anyone who's copying the code 1:1 for v2.
If you run an AutoHotkey v1.1 script using AutoHotkey v2, it automatically downloads AutoHotkey v1.1.

Clicking on advanced mode on Char Map does resize it, just not freely by the user. Jk and I am an OG AHK method coder. I use this to make my own games and software that can shut down games. I even made malware using this.
