      The more you dig the worse it gets, you can easily find dialogs from Windows 3.1 in the newest versions of Windows

    • @unavailable292
      @unavailable292 2 года назад +8

      @@Allstarsoftware they probably kept those for compatibility purposes, but also removed unnecessary files in an attempt to not make Windows bloated, but I'm surprised that they removed the Windows 2000 logon screen even though they would instead use it as a fallback when the logonui.exe is missing or corrupt in Windows versions from Vista to 11, the last Windows NT Workstation version to have it is Windows XP and the last Windows NT Server version to have it is Windows Server 2003 you know

    Note: On real computers, disabling DWM in windows 10 will result in the black screen immediately without even the mouse, completely bricking the installation. Trying to boot will result the boot logo partially working and then it will not even display the sign-in page, being stuck on a black screen forever. The only way to fix this is to rename the file back to dwm.exe

  • @Odswietny
    @Odswietny 4 месяца назад

    Why Microsoft changed the DWM so it runs under its own user and restarts as soon as you end it? I'll explain.
    *Why does it run under its own user?* Since Windows 8.x we have this fancy Metro UI, right, well, turns out the sign-in screen runs as a part of Metro UI. And Metro UI without DWM is nothing. That's why it runs under its own user - so DWM will be available at any time.
    *Why does it restart upon termination?* As I said earlier, Metro UI without DWM is nothing, so the DWM needs to run all the time.
    Even in Windows 10 and 11 which use UWP, the same rules about DWM apply.

    • @World_of_OSes

      If you renamed dwm.exe then you could boot in with a live Linux USB or Windows install disc and rename it back.
      If you deleted dwm.exe then if you have another PC running the same version of Windows 10 you could copy dwm.exe from that computer. If you have a VM running the same version of Windows 10 then you could copy dwm.exe from there. If you have an ISO then you could mount it to a virtual drive and go to the 'sources' folder and open install.win with 7-Zip and copy dwm.exe from there.

    • @Odswietny
