I think part of the reason there was such a boom in ghost hunting shows was because of the writers strike in the mid 2000s which caused an influx of reality tv shows

As a little kid, I LOVED Ghost Hunters any pretty much any other type of ghost show(Celebrity Ghost Stories, Destination Truth, etc.). My mom was a ghost hunter in her spare time in Hawaii, so when the Ghost Hunters came to Oahu to visit the super haunted Aviation/Pearl Harbor Museum, we actually got to meet them! Jason, Grant and every body else were super nice (but that could have been because I was like 8 at the time). Josh Gates was also there and you KNOW my mom was blushing the whole time. I don't know what it is about that man but middle aged women are obsessed.

My (possible) ghost story: I didn’t really believe in ghosts until I went on holiday last year to this huge very old house with my family. I had a room on my own in the oldest part of the house and heard/felt breathing in my ear one night - I thought it was me so I completely froze and stopped breathing, tried covering and uncovering my ears, switching position, and it just kept going until I ran out of the room. After that night my cousin shared the room with me and the sound never came back.

i appreciate your touching on the correlation or mere association that Americans' perspective on death has on these types of shows. In most cultures, death is not scary or taboo the way it is in the U.S. (and Canada for that matter). Whether it's the celebration of loved ones like it is in Mexico or embracing your former "murder capital" status like England, most countries are not as quiet surrounding the topic as the U.S.

The only "ghost" story I have is that one day in 2017 or something, I had a statue of David sitting on my desk. It was probably 10 pounds or so in weight. I was sitting in my bed on my phone when the statue suddenly fell over and a piece of it broke. I got it and examined it for probably 30 minutes attempting to recreate the fall, from shaking my desk to getting in my bed (which my desk was up against from the bottom) and bouncing around. I couldn't get it to happen again, no matter what I did, unless I physically pushed it over. Never really understood how that happened.

When I was younger I had a lot of weird paranormal experiences. One that happened a few times was when I was laying down in bed, what felt like a hand would suddenly close around my leg, like someone was grabbing it and holding it down. It would only last a moment. The blankets would always be indented at the spot I felt the grip. Sometimes I would also feel the blanket depress like someone was sitting down at the edge of my bed, and there would be an indentation there as well. There was also a myriad of visual things but I always remember the physical ones the most. They would usually happen after deaths in the family - and this was at an age where I didn't fully understand death or the finality of it.

Growing up, we had a ghost in the house - my sister and I would see it all the time, out of the corner of our eyes, and the electricity would Fritz sometimes, doors would open and close. We weren't scared but so matter of fact about it - my mum would always try to shut us down straight away. As an adult recently, she admitted it was because she'd seen it too and it freaked her out

My “ghost”(?) story: I’m not big believer in ghosts necessarily but I have a story that I still can’t explain to this day. I was 12 and staying up late one night. I was just chilling on my phone and it was probably between 2-3am. Then, the doorbell rings. I can hear it really clearly, and it’s definitely not coming from my ipad. The creepier part: it was a doorbell sound but not the sound of *our* house doorbell. It definitely sounded like it was coming from the house rather than a phone or smthn. And it wasn’t like a sound option for the alarm on your phone at the time (I was looking forward explanations). I was so freaked out. the next morning I asked my family if they’d heard it, but they’d all been asleep.

    • @mistahchad220
      @mistahchad220 Год назад +2

Oh man, that's freaky. It's that perfect blend of "mundane enough that you don't panic" and yet "shouldn't be possible and/or like this" that sets you on edge. I've had a similar experience with a water glass, where I was so /certain/ that it spilled on my foot (I could feel the cold shock, hear the splash against the linoleum tile I was standing on), yet when I looked down, no water had actually been spilled.
Silly example I know, but it's the closest to your encounter that I can think of-- the sound and feeling of being splashed was so vividly real, but it couldn't possibly have been.

First of all, I recently subscribed to you and now I'm just gradually going through you're catalogue and I have to say I'm so impressed with the quality of your content! You're gonna go places :)
    Now, ghosts 👻
I have no idea if ghosts are real, I'm really torn on the subject. I have had a few experiences that all relate to my father's passing that you might attribute to some sort of psychological thing. For instance: I sometimes sleep in a hammock I have in my room, but I no longer sleep on one particular side of it, because on three separate occasions when I layed down to sleep I could feel this energy between my ears and this sound just gradually increasing, getting louder and louder, even making me dizzy, culminating in my father's voice like shouting my name in the distance or saying a single word. This really freaked me out.
Something that I cannot explain with any degree of psychological phenomena though is what happened in my sister's house, who lives two blocks away. My dad was actually her stepdad and they didn't always have a very good relationship, but even though they didn't get along very well, my dad really saw and appreciate all she did for me and my mother.
One night my sister was watching television and it was a TV show in which someone's father ends up dying, and right at that moment the various light bulbs on the lamp next to the television start pulsating independently for about 15 seconds.
Something else that happened was actually related to my house too: I was making an exam at home (covid times) and all of a sudden the picture frame with my dad's picture comes crashing down from the wall. About a minute later I hear my mother answering the telephone. It was my sister and I hear my mother say "yes, I just heard something come down in Lukas' room too". Turns out that on roughly the exact same time that one picture frame came down, the clock in my sister's living room randomly fell of the wall. To this day I cannot explain this 'coincidence' with any logical reasoning...

my spooky ghost story happened on new years eve 2016 going into 2017. It was my friends birthday so me and a group of 4 other girls were having a sleepover at the birthday girls house. we spent the whole night down in her basement and the only source of light was one of those tiny windows that some basements have at the top of a room. My friend had told me before the party that her house was pretty haunted but I kinda took it with a grain of salt. when it got dark outside we decided to play hide and go seek in the dark. for context this group of girls was all short petite girls except for one of my friends who was probably around 5'10". I decided to hide next to this thick pillar that was in the middle of the room because I thought it would be like hiding in plain in sight. as the game went on my eyes sort of adjusted to the dark as best as they could. As I'm sitting against this pillar I see a figure crawling past me, and it was a bigger figure, my one taller friend was the only one who could've been big enough to be this figure, so naturally I assumed it was her, reached out my hand to gently touch her to let her know I was there. The figure stopped crawling turned it's head to look at me, slightly nodded then kept crawling the way it had been crawling. A few seconds later the lights were turned on because they had found the last person, who had been my tall friend and she was on the far opposite side of the room the figure had been crawling towards. She wouldn't have had enough time to crawl to that side of the room quietly or unnoticed. There's literally nobody else it could have been.

Ooo I love your spooky story! I actually had a sleep paralysis demon over my bed last night, but since I've had sleep paralysis for years, it didn't freak me out, Haha. Now, if my dog (who also sleeps in my bed) were alert and scared, then I would totally be creeped. To me, it's very obvious when I have sleep paralysis/night hallucinations. I feel like a real experience would be noticeably different.

I’m pretty skeptic and think most mysticism is bs and even most ghost pictures/firsthand accounts are usually nothing, but I also believe I’ve seen ghosts on three different occasions and I’ll share the second because it’s weirdly wholesome? I woke up unexpectedly around dawn for no real reason and saw a person in my room but since it was still dark I couldn’t tell who it was but I sat up a little and said “Who’s there?” And the figure reached out their hand and did this gesture that I don’t know how to to describe in words, but it’s sort of a wave and the only people I’ve ever seen do it is my dad and my grandpa, who died 15 years ago. So naturally I said “Dad? What are you doing in my room?” And then as it got a little brighter as the dawn progressed, it melted into the shadows.

As a person that started having formative memories before 9/11, mid 90s and on, I can attest pre 9/11 there was a slight interest in the supernatural, and ghosts but they were mostly only allocated for the week(ish) before Halloween. Interestingly, this was also sort of the same for true crime. Yes, there were stories on the news but deep drives were mostly JUST a side story on 20/20 or 60 minutes. Shows like forensic files or American Justice were only on high-end channels and only once a week, not on repeat like they are now on crime tv. Often those shows were mostly focusing on the process and not the sensation of the crimes themselves.
Anyway, yeah early 2000s ghost hunting was my jam.

When I was right out of college my best friend and I stayed in a hostel in New Orleans that was definitely haunted. At one point I took a Snapchat video of her and when we watched the video back the sound was gone and instead it was a song neither of us had heard before- not Bessie Smith but similar- a song about a mother losing a child, garbled and sounding like it was being played through a gramophone. We sent the video to several people AND saved it and when we played the saved version the song was gone, and no one we sent it to had any idea what we were talking about. I have no explanation for what happened.
Now almost ten years later, I live in New Orleans now and my apartment is haunted as hell. I think the veil is just thin here.

My dad said he lived in it for a week and the "ghost" took his glasses then placed it in the kitchen 3 days laters and he used the kitchen everyday so he should've seen it if he misplaced it. Other people have had their own story but I don't know any of them. This is all my father would say 😂😂
Edit: I think I remember my dad saying someone had one of their bags disappear. This house is many used as a vacation home when visiting family members so this bag literally had all his stuff he travelled with

Spiritualism is good thing but that racism, religious discrimination and bigotry it brings to the table is still a bad thing. "You just gotta have faith" attitudes. That weird mixture of an openness to ideas most find crazy and also a closed mindedness towards ideas most find sane

The 9-11 hypothesis makes sense to me. I was 17 at the time and although Im not American I did receive a lot of American media through cable. I do see the point although I wouldnt say it was the only factor. Somebody mentioned about the writers strike of 2000 and that also added to reality media at the time like it did in 2008.

Im a ghost agnostic, leaning towards a believer but im very skeptical of the stuff i hear. I think that ghosts may or may not be real but if they are, sooo many people lie or misinterpret things that you wouldnt know the truth from a lie and it's why i absolutely hate ghost hunting shows. Theyre so hockey and exaggerated and they try to make something out of nothing the majority of the time.
That being said i do love hearing peoples real life ghost stories or things that happened to them that were spooky but they cant explain

Mcdonald's has to be one of the most haunted locations in the world. Do you know many people who have died in Mcdonald's?

In Search Of is actually from the 70s and early 80s. Dumb to comment on a nine month old video but oh well, I'm pedantic when it comes to Leonard Nimoy projects.

It sounds like your mom and my mom would get along spectacularly. Or at the very least they'd be very happy watching TV together.

Mine too. I enter her living room to hear “but their happy family wouldn’t be happy for long. In 19__ Sharon’s husband would snap and kill her, but at the time police didn’t know that. When investigating-“ (I just pulled that speech outta my ass lol but you get the point)

I love demographic inclusivity for the sake of it. It really adds value and depth to the media in question when the piece is made by someone's arbitrarily-born trait. Like why don't we have more inclusivity of nine-toed people? Like it's so fucking disgusting that we don't have more supernatural shows produced and hosted by people who were born with 9 toes

I'm 27, but I'm only just starting to realise how alternative some my families views are. Because the thoughts of ghosts being real is the most ridiculous concept to me 😅 Think of how many hours of footage goes into 1 episode of a TV show, it must be 50 hours minimum. Then think of the thousands of episodes about ghosts and ghost hunting. There could easily be 100,000 hours of ghost hunting footage, which is 11 YEARS of video. If none of them are able to capture anything that resembles scientific evidence, it would have been done by now. And the show creators definitely would get that validation if they could! Imagine the fame, prestige, and money they would get from proving ghosts exist as a ghost hunter.
Edit: I posted this before I listened to your personal story at the end of the video and now I feel bad about how mean this comment sounds.
And asking people to share their ghost stories is very much a way to get some confirmation bias. I can't tell you my "not a ghost" story, because that is literally every second of my life 😅
