Yeah, it's really not a great setup yet for sound tests, I apologize. The last video was a bit better but not great either, have to work on it, thanks for pointing it out! 🙂
3:36 It's also missing the ` ~ key. With this layout that key is supposed to be a 1U next to \ | where backspace normally goes, backspace being swapped with \ |. I've recently switched to the closest to a UNIX layout I can muster with my New Model M, swapping Ctrl and Caps Lock and putting an extra Esc where ` ~ goes. Might change to a long spacebar down the line, using the leftover parts to split backspace and go all the way, but will only do so when I have to bolt-mod it. For now I replaced Menu (not a Super key) with ` ~, which requires adjusting to but works fine, I don't miss this key as I use tree style alt-bars and right-click more. On the soundtest, might be cool to put clickleaf or clickbar switches in it, going for more of a retro sound, making use of the hollow case. For this, it's on my radar for a potential upgrade, if I still find such sound enjoyable after using my buckling spring board for longer, it's still a very new experience to me. Especially compared to the Outemu reds I used before this upgrade, in a cheap RK board that was my first taste of mechanical boards. Liking this new format, not as much of a surprise which depending on my mood can be nicer or uninteresting compared to the usual content, both co-existing fine.
@@CheeseTurbulence Huh, clickleafs are the style used in old Alps style switches, in MX land only the Zelios switches have these I think. Clickbars are found in clicky Kailh Box switches, instead of the rattly plastic jacket they use a small coil spring that gets pushed of a cam. In both, the clicker slams against the housing, in a firmer and less rattly way than the MX style jacket. Heh, your content is generally is surprising and refreshing to see. I don’t think $99 is ridiculous for a beginner board at all, even if it is a barebones. Still I think I would recommend a Keychron V series to a beginner over this board. The layout might be confusing and the look is divisive. I still like it though
I would miss the button under Esc button like in normal keyboard, I dont know how its called in english its "tylda" in polish, but over all its cool keyboard. Cheers :)
in English it's also very similar - "tilde" :D I'd guess that pressing some combination of shift/fn/super and ESC will give you your ~~~~~ although every keyboard has slightly different variations. (I also have a keyboard without the tilde button, I get it with FN+Shift+ESC)
Really enjoyed your take on this board and your discussion of design and the build / build quality! Gotta say I was surprised at how loud it sounded given it had a silicon pad in between the plate and PCB, I’d have thought it’d be much more muted! Definitely looking forward to future vids!
White Halo96 comes with gorgeous white keys. I bought some shine-throughs from Drop (DROP Skylight - Horizon) and side by side the Halo's are way whiter.
am i crazy or do the lights shine downwards? haha weird layout. it removes keys on the bottom corners but added back in the F-row. it's in-between a 75% and HHKB layout maybe it was done to accomplish the silhouette
It sure looks good, but not the best layout/feature support But to be honest the design itself sells it (except for the ugly ass function row being matched to the number row in stagger, that’s the worst)

A lot of echo on the typing sound. The space bar made a lot of noise.

Never heard of clickleaf/bar switches but now I am very curious to find out more 😮
And thank you, glad you're enjoying the bytes 🙂

I love this idea! This is what I needed two years ago! I started with IQUINIX which switches and keycaps I then replaced at too high a total cost.

It looks awesome but the off center bottom row is a bit annoying

That HHK-like layout is not for me. It's very hipster of them to remove helpful keys.
😐
Anything less than 80% is a deal breaker for me. I don't get the appeal
Paying more for less lol

I believe that too, they wanted to achieve this look 😅

I like the looks of it, but not so much the rest 😅
Wow, very cool looking.
