I didn’t even replace the switches, just took them out, blew some air to clean out any dust, reinstalled and voila, fixed!!! I was ready to replace the whole thing, thank you!!
Back with an update. My original switches worked for a little while then crapped out. I bought the Dorman 924-798 switch kit and they worked perfect on my 2010 Civic. Thank you!
After watching too many videos, I found yours. Concise and to the point, but clearly, showing at close range the cameras, and the tips about the prongs, and how NO TO BREAKE THEM, are excellent.!!!!
My map light switch hasn't worked for about 5 years and I tried your swapping the old switches method and it WORKED! You are the RUclipsr of the Year! Thanks so much for your help and excellent detailed video!
Excellent tutorial. I too, wasted $6+ on new bulbs before watching this. In my case, the suggestion from comments to disconnect switches, swap, and reinstall solved the issue. I didn’t have connector cleaner handy, so this was all I had to do and it worked. Thank you!
THANKEW! Just bought a 2008 Honda Accord EX-L and have been working my way through fixing minor (but ANNOYING) problems. As NEITHER one of the spotlights/reading lights worked, I was advised to replace the bulbs. HOWEVER after watching this video (AND reading a lot of the suggestions in your viewers comments), I had BOTH lights working just fine in less than 10 minutes. And I didn't have to replace ANYTHING! But, man, did your video ever help! I had NO idea how to get at those bulbs until I saw how you did it. Yup. Prying those "lenses" off was easy (by doing EXACTLY what you said to do). After that, I tried removing the 2 Phillip's screws - but I couldn't "wiggle" the centre part out and was afraid I might pull down the entire overhead panel. So, I removed both bulbs (they came out easily with the aid of a thin screwdriver), checked and discovered neither one of them was burnt out! Hmm... So, I decided to try cleaning all the contact points with my handy-dandy spray can of "Contact & head cleaner." (The one If have is "Nexxtech" 3.5 oz. Bought it for about $10.00 more than as DECADE ago. Use it whenever I have possible contact problems with anything "electrical," and it's STILL almost full.) Anyway - sprayed inside the bulb contact points (that hold the bulb in place), then used the screwdriver to pop those two on/off buttons to the side of the unit (WITHOUT removing them). Sprayed all around where the switches pop into place, then used the screwdriver again to GENTLY push the on/off switch back until you feel it "click" into place. Replaced the bulbs and - EUREKA! Both work just fine . Replaced the cover/lenses (GENTLY). No problem. They went smoothly into place. Pressed both. ALL LIGHTS WORK. So, thanks SO much. I suspect I would have snapped/broken something if I hadn't watched how you removed things FIRST. BTW: I was prepared to order the "repair hit" from Amazon, but got lucky and just had to clean up some dirty contacts. Appreciate it. Liked & Subscribed. Cheers, GN
THANK YOU! Right side went out a year ago, left one a month ago. Replaced bulbs and nothing. Sitting in the car waiting for my son and I watched you video and read comments. Switched sides of the switches and both work!!!!
that tip you gave at the very end about cleaning the old ones just made my whole day thank you so much for being so thorough I really wanted to get this handled when I change the bulbs which I had already procrastinated on so having to order something else because I had that exact problem the left one worked the right one didn't was not what I wanted to hear at all. I just cleaned them out and voila really the people these days go above and beyond and that last little morsel was above and beyond. thank you for your help.
Great video! After replacing the switches on my 2011 Pilot, it still wasn't working. I read through the comments and saw the note about swapping the switches from side to side. I took them off and scraped the connectors on each side them switched sides and it works now! Thanks for the help! I also prefer the soft white (yellow). We haven't had these things working for a couple years, so this will be great to have them back again!
Okay, wow! 2012 Pilot 196K miles, and the passenger map light stopped working with either the door open or using the map light switch. The obvious first thought was the bulb burned out. but couldn't readily find a replacement that wasn't LED [I didn't like the cool white options]. So I tried swapping the switch as the video suggested, and it worked!! I put the original bulb back in. Not sure how long that will last, but if a new switch was needed, that's easy enough to change out now that I know how. It honestly took longer to watch this video than it did to swap the switches. Clear, to-the-point information. I wish other RUclipsrs would follow those points. Well Done Sir!
NO WAY!!! WORKED PERFECTLY!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME FEEL ENTIRELY EMPOWERED TODAY!!! SO GLAD I TRIED THIS *BEFORE* TREKKING TO THE STORE TO BUY NEW BULBS!!! I JUST WISH I WOULD HAVE TRIED IT SOONER... I'VE BEEN IN THE DARK FOR MONTHS!!!
Some other videos show taking out the two screws above the swivel down mirror and dropping the whole assembly. As you show, its not necessary. Five minute fix and mama will be thrilled. Thank you!
Did the switches in my Accord today! Quick and easy. Thanks for the advice. One thing to note... If the LEDs don't work, try flipping them end for end. I installed the first one correctly, and the second one 'backwards' at first.
I've had this happen on my wife and sister-in-law's 2006 and 2009 civics. I found both times that the switches and bulbs were fine but one of the two screws you last removed needed to be tightened, as it provides the ground to the light unit. Not that it really saves you any time but I'd recommend just giving a 1/4 turn to both of the mounting screws and pop everything back in and test. Great video!!!
Great video - well done. I was all set to buy a new switch for my one light that wasn't working, but I thought I'd fiddle with it first. With light cover removed, but not removing the two big screws to pull out the dome light compartment, I pushed on the inside edge of the current switch with a small screwdriver and noticed this caused the light to come on when the switch was depressed. When I stopped pushing on the switch, it wouldn't come on. So, I then pushed a bit harder which forced the switch to pop out of its compartment (towards outside edge) like shown in the video, but it won't fall out. I then pushed on the outside edge of the switch and popped it back in and voila, it now works again. Two theories: 1) it dislodged some dust at the connectors; 2) vibrations from the van dislodged the switch ever so slightly. I'm leaning towards #2 because my other light went out, but just going in and pushing on the bulb got the light back on, so I think it too got dislodged a bit from vibrations, etc. Hope this holds. Wish I could say this was a no cost replacement, but made the mistake of trying new bulbs I bought before watching this video. Still only $6 and extra bulbs in case I need them.
After watching the video and reading this comment from Krandy3, I used this method to fix the map light on a 2012 Pilot that was not working. Took about 2 minutes to fix and is now working fine. All of this after purchasing a new bulb that I didn't need! Thanks for the video and the additional instructions in the comments!
THANK YOU for this video! I had a 2009 Pilot Touring that had this problem when I bought it 2 years ago. I bought a new "relay" from Honda and had my mechanic put it in. Recently traded in the 2009 for a 2012 Pilot EX-L and it had the SAME issue with the SAME passenger side map light. In about 10 minutes I had everything fixed and new LED lights installed in both driver's and passenger's sides. I feel like I could conquer the world now! :-)
Awesome! Love saving money with a ten minute fix. I just pulled out the switches and swapped them, and now both of my lights work. I'm really stoked. Combined with new bulbs (not LEDs, I like the warm color light) but the car is now so illuminated, it feels a lot nicer.
Concise, clear, calm, detailed, extra helpful tips, clear video... PERFECT!!! I *love* how you catch yourself and notice that a beginner watching what you are doing may not catch X or Y detail... like ar 4:15, your right forefinger bracing the right switch so it doesn't ricochet around the car... "if you pry out too hard with the thin, flat object, the switch could go flying." And 5:47, "I needed to push it up a little bit more to get that screw in." Awesome! And thank you for sharing the comments from other people/ forums about switching switches to opposite sides and using compressed air!! Question, (because it's much easier to learn from your teaching style than others) (and because you convinced me to replace the other interior lights in my 2019 Honda CRV with super bright LEDs... I also MUCH prefer the warm/ soft white 2700-3k color, but even more than that, I *really* prefer being able to SEE with the brighter lights!)... so, the question... Any chance you might have a way to show how to change ALL the interior bulbs in a 2019 Honda CRV? (I really wish Honda had done a better job lighting the cargo /"trunk" space, so much so that I have rigged up a flashlight back there, but I'm planning to change all the bulbs back there to Super Bright 6k LEDs.)
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! 1. In focus. 2. Clearly explained 3.Clear view of work ([Many people take videos and half the time their fingers are in the way, blocking important points]. 4. Not sure how the switches were deduced as the culprit. Could it not have been a fuse or something else? Thanks again. Very Good work.
This video was fantastic! I was able to fix one switch by just switching it into the other side and ordered from your link the others I needed. Both bulbs were good. Now I have extras. 7.99 for bulbs ,tool and a we itches! Perfect. People’s comments helped too!
Thank you so much for posting this brother. I was scratching my head when all the fuses checked out. Turned out both our switches went bad within a month of each other too. My wife is the same way about LED bulbs, she hates that bright white light. Thanks again for posting!
Thank you! Thank you! I’ve been racking my brain for awhile as to why the map lights weren’t coming on when I unlocked my car and/or when I opened the doors. Also, why the passenger side light wouldn’t come on when pushing the button, but the driver side would. I came across your video and never thought that a bad switch on the passenger side would cause this issue. I used your link to buy new switches and within minutes I replaced them and now everything works as it should. A simple $10 fix!
Great vid! The passenger side (right) map light wasn't automatically turning on in my 2011 Pilot when I opened the doors. But it would still work if I manually pressed on the lens. All I did was open the lens assembly like you showed, removed the white switches, blew some air on the 3 little contact points inside and swapped the switches, and it somehow fixed it. Now both lights will automatically turn on/off. Thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome thank you! I got around to asking dealer to change bulbs when I was in for service, and they still didn't work...said would have to come back for electrical diagnosis another time. Well that just sounded like it was going to be needlessly expensive. Found your video, got me a kit and voila 10 minutes later it works! SO nice to be able to see again! Except now am a bit OCD annoyed that I should swap out middle and rear bulbs to coordinate. Thanks!
Yes! I’m glad it worked for you too. The dealer would have probably swapped out the whole assembly. My wife though she would want all new bulbs too but decided the bright ones up front were just right.
Thank you! We’ve been running without these lights for a while. The dealership told us we had a “short” and would need to swap out the whole unit. I ordered the switches and it took 5 minutes to replace them.
Thank you. I decided to give it a try. I piped the drivers side switch out (while still in place, didn’t remove anything) & popped it right back into place and now it’s working!! Thank you!
You saved me big $$ dealer wanted to replace whole unit - bought kit you recommended and did installation in 15 mins - really like the led bulbs / total cost under $20 dealer wanted $450
Some dealerships aren’t very honest. They take the easy route for themselves of replacing the entire unit instead of taking time to identify the issue with a part. I’m glad you found the video and fixed it yourself instead.
Thanks for the video. I bought the kit you recommended. I replaced the switches which solved my problem. The issue I now have is the new LED bulbs that came with it kept blowing the fuse. So I went to a 10 amp. If I turn one on it was fine but both on again blowing the fuse. So I went with the original bulbs and everything is working properly. I’m satisfied with that. Thanks again Maria
After trying a couple different things, I'm so glad I found this DIY fix. Simply cleaning out the switches and swapping them worked. Thank you for posting this!
This video was spot on. In fact I tried the trick he mentioned at the end about taking both switches and blowing compressed air thru them and swapping their left/right positions. Both the lights started working again! Great video!
Clear and concise replacement guide to courtesy light in Honda Accord . Ordered two switches from China for less than €6.00. Arrived after 40 days!! However, I have been years with faulty switch already, so wasn't bothered by delay. Worth the wait. Thank you so much.
Dude! This saved me, new to the Honda world, have a 2011 Pilot I bought 6 months ago, passenger map was out, so replaced, didn't evenlook at bulb cause new onecwas working, just went out again, same side, so when I saw this, I pulled the switch, used my WD40 Contacts cleaner and a can of compressed air, and voila, she's working again 😂😊 Now if I could just get the sunroof to work, lol. Tried all the reset procedures I've found on here, nothing, still will only tilt, might need that flash done by dealer, not too worried though, as long as she don't leave me alongside the road, I'm good😂👊 Thanks for the great vid, your way of taking the lenses off, is even better than what I've found and tried 🤟
Perfect! I took the switches out, cleaned them with air and put on some dielectric grease. They work fine now. Thanks for the video! One thing I did differently was that I removed the whole panel and then the switches were very easy to work on.
Thank you! I put off fixing this in my 2010 Element for too long and all modes now work with the new switches. Don't forget to re-install the bolts since the right (ground) does effect the functions. Also replaced bulbs with the brighter LEDs.
Excellent DIY video on repair of the Honda Map light unit. I first replaced the bulbs with new LED units without success. Then I replaced the switches with no success. Finally I checked under the hood at location #22 (7.5v) in the fuse box and success! Should have tried that first time but you live and learn. BTW, my vehicle is a 2011 Honda CRV.
A suggestion from a retired instrumentation tech - often iffy or intermittent microswitches can be brought back normal operation by spraying contact cleaner into the switch around the actuator button and around the connector pins. Even if the fix is temporary, it is useful for diagnostic purposes or for restoring operation until replacement part can be obtained.
Just switch sides for the white switches and it works again! Initially just tighten the passenger side screw and that side started working when the door open, but after switching the white switches, both works!! Thanks!!
I recently purchased this model van and the map lights were both off. After watching towards the end of your video (the part where you mentioned that others said the switches might not be bad) I was able to get the lights to work without having to buy new switches. I didn’t have to take the whole assembly out either. Basically what I did was just remove the lamp cover and used a small screwdriver to slightly move the switches as though I was trying to pop them out (just as shown in your video). As I was pushing the switch out the light turned on. Then I repeated the same on the other side. Problem solved. I guess that overtime of pressing the switches that they end up moving out position and just needs to be reposition to work again. Thanks for making the video.
Thank you! I was about to go out and buy new bulbs, but mine looked fine so I googled and your video was the first on my search. I simply removed and swapped the switches and we have light again.
Awesome! Mine stopped working in door mode but it was working manually. Thanks millions for your video guide, i was able to switch left n right and it is working again now.
Thank you so much,i knew I had faulty switches .Just did not know how to remove them ,I thought they were soldered in.My CRV light unit was not as easily to remove as the one in the video ,the headlight unit clips that held it together were at the top so I had remove the complete unit.Mine had microphones built in and is a UK model. But got it removed. So many thanks for posting this .
Once again RUclips comes thru. I have the exact same issue except the drivers side hasn't stopped working yet. Just ordered the kit. Thanks for the excellent video.
Thank you. I’m glad you found it helpful. I’m actually a teacher by trade so I have a little experience providing clear instructions. I have several car repair videos so be sure to subscribe.
Excellent video. Just 2 small remarks - when unclipping plastic elements, it is much safer to use something soft as a detaching tool, instead of metal (no screwdriver!) - I use guitar feathers, but you can also use an old credit card plastic or something like that. My second remark is - never touch the LED elements on a LED lightbulb, when those elements are open / exposed and not encapsulated. This may lead to much sooner burn out of the lightbulb.
you guys may wanna try using a vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt from the switch connectors before replacing them. It worked for me !!! Thank you tightwWadDYI !!!
Check your bulbs aren't just out of position. My left side wasn't working, opened the cover, pulled the bulb out, the filament was still intact so as soon as it went back up the light came on. I immediately cancelled my order for LED bulbs for now since no need yet. Tested the button switch as well as the interior light mode switch and everything works! Still thanks for the video it was how I found out how to get started messing with it.
2009 CR-V. Great video, your tip to "click loose" the switch did fix one side. I guess I'll order a new switch for the other side as that trick did not work. Thank you!!!
I have a 2010 Honda Element and both of the front map lights have not been working on any setting for awhile, and it was pretty dark getting in and out of the car at night. This video was found for me by an employee of Auto Zone, where I stopped to check my fuse, which was fine. After listening to part of the video in the store, I decided to give it a try myself at home, and did it all in about 30 minutes with two screwdrivers, an air blower, and a headlamp to give me better vision in the compartment. Taking off the lenses was easy with a flathead screwdriver. In the Element, the assembly looks slightly different inside and a little tighter in the compartment, but I got the bulbs and Phillips head screws out easily. The hardest part for me was trying to get the whole assembly released because it was hard to get a good grip on it in the center to wiggle it free, but once I tried the flathead screwdriver at the top of the assembly, it unsnapped easily. Air cleaned and swapped the switches, and had to work with one of them to get it to click in and stay put, but finally it all came together, and they both work as intended! No new parts needed yet, but from the Amazon links you posted, I have that info saved in an Amazon list in case I need them in the future. Thanks for such good instructions!
Thank you so much for your informative and easy to follow video. I really didn't want to have to take my Civic to the dealership without trying to do it myself. Thanks again. 😁
Oh my goodness! This was an amazing video! Very thorough, links provided for replacements! *chefs kiss* thank you very much for this video! I changed out the switches and it was easy peasy thanks to your video!
My 2012 Honda Odyssey has the same problem with the map light. I had it in for servicing this past weekend and they wanted to charge me over $200 for a diagnostic. I told them I'd do some research and I found this video. We will have to try this! It shouldn't be a fuse under the hood, right? Because if it was the fuse it would affect ALL of the interior lights, wouldn't it? Now I'll just have to order the switches using your link!
Awesome! I just ordered a new LED kit for our 2012 Pilot & these were the ONLY ones that didn't turn on after replacing all the bulbs. Followed this video and they're working now. Thanks!! 💪👍
@@RonAllenTaylor I get the impression, based on prior comments, that he just swapped the left bulb and the right one into opposite placements. But that's just how I read it.
This method shown in this video works fine on a Honda 2011 CRV. I needed to use an 8mm socket to take the screws out - to tight use a screwdriver. The process in this video is much simpler than other suggested methods on RUclips. (i.e. no need to remove and unplug the entire assembly)
Excellent video. Got right to my problem. Bad switch on right side. I sprayed contact cleaner in the holes then blew them out with compressed air. Switch works good as new. Liked and subscribed!
This video is by far the BEST on youtube for this. Congrats! My problem is that on my 2004 Accord, the bulbs are ok, they work manually, but they dont work when I open the door, even having the DOOR position placed. I will fix this problem doing this? Thanks from Spain, master!
@@TightWadDIY Negative, Sir. The lights only do work if I press the plastic panels, but none of them when the doors are open (passenger or pilot), or when I unlock the car with remote. Back seats light work fine when I open the rear doors.
@@TightWadDIY you mean by "ding" if I hear an acoustic signal. Not that I'm aware of. The key must be in but in which position for the door to ding? If you check on youtube "Honda Accord map lights", by user Maximum Tenacity, you will understand, cause exactly the same happened to him, and fixed it replacing the switch.
@@alexg6374 I would try changing the switch then. Typically when you have the door open while the key is on, there is an audible dinging sound. You may also have a dash indicator showing a door is open. I was just pointing out that the sensor that tells the auto the door is open may be bad.
My map lights worked fine (push-push, on-off) on my 2007 Civic. My problem was that they would not come on when the engine was turned off and the key extracted from the ignition, or when the door was unlocked. In the video, I noticed that the switches had three terminals. It occurred to me that one terminal was ground, one was to turn on the light, and the third must be a pass-through for the auto-on function. So, I removed the switches and sprayed them with contact cleaner. Now the auto-on function works perfectly.
Thank you very much, I did it on a 08 odyssey, removed and switched location the switches. Now both work. I may last for a while,,, if not,,, I will new one
Thanks so much for the link for that kit. The tool made the job so much easier. Question - any idea how to get the switches out from the back seat panel? It’s almost as if the switches are built into the piece.
Great video! My 2012 Ridgeline had this issue, now fixed thanks to you. But, my door lights and dome light won't come on. I am wondering if those screws you showed, go into a ground for door lights, or where that door ground is located.
@@TightWadDIY Update: I just replaced the NATO lights but they still don’t work. While replacing them, I recalled that neither of my vanity lights work either and nor does my interior light. However lights on drivers and passenger doors work. Any guesses on what may be the problem?
Thank you so very much for this tutorial! I have been annoyed for quite awhile that my lights didn’t come on any more! Thank you for the step by step and the links to the products. Truly appreciated!
I am having a similar problem. Neither visor lights nor overhead lights working, probably they have same wirings. fuses are fine but power not coming from down below. What could be an issue?
2013 Pilot… right sided switch was getting fussy. Removed the clear lenses. Used a small flat screwdriver to “pop” each switch laterally (figured the driver side would soon get wonky). Simply moving the switches laterally and then popping them in by pushing medially did the trick. Didn’t even have to drop the unit down from headliner. You can move the switches to the side but you cannot remove them without dropping the assembly from the headliner. Like other commenters noted, cleaning the contacts restores function. The lateral movement scraped crud or reestablished contact. For good measure, I sprayed a bit of MAF cleaner into the edge where the switches plug in (toward the midline of the car). I also shot a bit of cleaner into the plungers. Seem to work fine. Time will tell. If they act up again and don’t respond to this or to a more thorough disassembly and cleaning, then I’ll spend the $13 for new switches.
Cne thing you can try- pop the switches off. Use a small needle nose or small flat screwdriver. Bend each set of 3 switch contacts just a hair forward, then a hair down (toward the cupholders) . Pop the switches back in, push in wire connectors, bulbs. Test for function.
Thank you for posting this video. I had a high hope that this would fix my non-working dome lights. I replaced both switches and the LED bulbs. But unfortunately the dome lights still don't lit. And I couldn't put the black screws back in. I thought my issue is not caused by a burnt fuse because it seems the fuse that is connected to the dome lights is also connected to other interior electronic devices which are working. Is there a fuse that only controls the dome lights? Do you have any suggestions?
I didn’t even replace the switches, just took them out, blew some air to clean out any dust, reinstalled and voila, fixed!!! I was ready to replace the whole thing, thank you!!

Interesting. Hopefully this helps out some other subscribers. I appreciate the info.
That is very interesting. That would also explain why many people said switching them from one side to the other made them work again.
Great video tightwady,. Just like Kendy3. I found my switch loose. Both of you helped a lot
P
Currently sitting in my 2012 Oddesey, with this exact thing happening- light was out, went to jiggle the switch, light is now on!
It does seem to be a common issue in Hondas. I’m glad it’s a fairly easy fix once you know how to do it.
I bought just the switches and fixed my lights! Perfect! Easy to follow. Saved me 118$ for the part service recommended. Thank you!
Yes! That’s great news!
Awesome! Love saving money with a ten minute fix.
I just pulled out the switches and swapped them, and now both of my lights work. I'm really stoked. Combined with new bulbs (not LEDs, I like the warm color light) but the car is now so illuminated, it feels a lot nicer.
@@AudreysKitchen Great! I’m glad it worked for you too!
I’m glad you found it helpful. We no longer have a Honda so I don’t have access to show how that is done.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! 1. In focus. 2. Clearly explained 3.Clear view of work ([Many people take videos and half the time their fingers are in the way, blocking important points]. 4. Not sure how the switches were deduced as the culprit. Could it not have been a fuse or something else? Thanks again. Very Good work.
Thanks. I appreciate the thoughtful comment. I had already replaced the fuse and the bulbs. The switch was the next thing on the list!
This video was fantastic! I was able to fix one switch by just switching it into the other side and ordered from your link the others I needed. Both bulbs were good. Now I have extras. 7.99 for bulbs ,tool and a we itches! Perfect. People’s comments helped too!
I wish your links to order were easier to find. I had to scroll through comments to get to it. Maybe it was me?
That’s great! The links should also be in the video description.
I’m glad you found the video!
Great! I’m glad it’s working.
Dude, this totally worked! I’ve been frustrated for years with my lights not being available. All good now! Thank you!!!
Glad I could help
Thank you! We’ve been running without these lights for a while. The dealership told us we had a “short” and would need to swap out the whole unit. I ordered the switches and it took 5 minutes to replace them.
I stopped using dealerships for service many years ago. Find you a trustworthy local mechanic instead.
Thank you. I decided to give it a try. I piped the drivers side switch out (while still in place, didn’t remove anything) & popped it right back into place and now it’s working!! Thank you!
That’s great! Something must be causing bad contact on the pins.
You saved me big $$ dealer wanted to replace whole unit - bought kit you recommended and did installation in 15 mins - really like the led bulbs / total cost under $20
dealer wanted $450
I wonder why LEDs would blow the fuse. Should be pulling even less power than the originals.
Awesome video! Checked the bulbs themselves and the potiential fixes, Didn’t think the switches would go out! Super clear and straight to the point!
I’m glad you found it helpful.
After trying a couple different things, I'm so glad I found this DIY fix. Simply cleaning out the switches and swapping them worked. Thank you for posting this!
That’s great! I’m glad you found the video then!
Sep 2024. Toronto....u helped me fix this issue with crv 2010. just cost me $10 in amazon to get that small piece replacement. tnk u😊
That’s great to hear!
This video was spot on. In fact I tried the trick he mentioned at the end about taking both switches and blowing compressed air thru them and swapping their left/right positions. Both the lights started working again!
Great video!
I’m glad to hear that worked for you.
I did break one of the covers while removing so I ordered using the links provided to help you out some. Thanks again!
I’m glad you were able to get yours working again. It’s possible the motor on the sunroof has gone bad.
Perfect! I took the switches out, cleaned them with air and put on some dielectric grease. They work fine now. Thanks for the video! One thing I did differently was that I removed the whole panel and then the switches were very easy to work on.
That’s great! I’m glad it worked!
Thank you! I put off fixing this in my 2010 Element for too long and all modes now work with the new switches. Don't forget to re-install the bolts since the right (ground) does effect the functions. Also replaced bulbs with the brighter LEDs.
I put it all far too long as well. It was an easy fix once I figured out what the issue was
Excellent video. Concise, to the point, no BS, relevant. Thank you!
I’m glad you found it helpful.
Im glad to hear you were able to figure it out!
That makes sense. It does appear to be corrosion causing a poor connection on these.
Just switch sides for the white switches and it works again! Initially just tighten the passenger side screw and that side started working when the door open, but after switching the white switches, both works!! Thanks!!
That’s great!
Fantastic video. I didn’t break anything - and by blowing the holes out on the switches and swapping sides - it fixed them both! Thanks.
That’s great!
Great job, excellent video. My switch was gone for like 2years. Just purchased new switches and white leds. Thanks for the tips on how to remove 🙏
That’s great! I’m glad it’s working now.
Great repair video, step by step instructions, very accurate. Thanks, replacement switches ordered from Amazon.
Note, I had the lights to on position so that it would turn on to let me know the switches were back into position.
That’s great! I’m glad it’s working for you!
Nice tip!
Thank you! I was about to go out and buy new bulbs, but mine looked fine so I googled and your video was the first on my search. I simply removed and swapped the switches and we have light again.
That’s great news! I’m glad it worked!
Awesome! Mine stopped working in door mode but it was working manually. Thanks millions for your video guide, i was able to switch left n right and it is working again now.
I’m glad to hear it worked for you too!
Brilliant video! You gave it that little extra to take it from good to excellent. The comparison of incandescent versus LED
Glad it was helpful!
I’m glad you got it fixed. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Be sure to subscribe.
Once again RUclips comes thru. I have the exact same issue except the drivers side hasn't stopped working yet. Just ordered the kit. Thanks for the excellent video.
Easiest to understand repair! Much thx! Cost $10 for the new clips...the Honda dealer told me $200 to repair.
For mine i use Microfiber along with few layers of Tamiya 10mm masking Tape. And small flat blade screwdriver.
you guys may wanna try using a vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt from the switch connectors before replacing them.
Nice tip.
2009 CR-V. Great video, your tip to "click loose" the switch did fix one side. I guess I'll order a new switch for the other side as that trick did not work. Thank you!!!
Update: apparently 1 bulb was bad. Thanks for the awesome advice
Nice work!
I’m glad it worked for you too!
Thank you so much for your informative and easy to follow video. I really didn't want to have to take my Civic to the dealership without trying to do it myself. Thanks again. 😁
I hope you can get it working!

That’s correct. It’s not a fuse if some lights work. Try to swapping the switches to the opposite side instead of buying new ones.
Thanks for the info.
That was the problem.
When I purchased my 06 Honda Accord they did not work.
Thanks to you, I now have map lights that work lol.
That’s great! I’m glad it worked for you too!
Awesome! I just ordered a new LED kit for our 2012 Pilot & these were the ONLY ones that didn't turn on after replacing all the bulbs. Followed this video and they're working now. Thanks!! 💪👍
That’s great! Did you buy new switches or just swap sides with your existing?
@@TightWadDIY Swapped sides but I didn't even know they could be replaced. So it's great to know if they go, I can buy new ones.
This video saved me over $200, the dealership recommended replacement of the entire light assembly.
I’m glad you got it figured out! I NEVER use dealerships.
Bought the switches for my 2009 Accord, works perfectly!
That’s great news!
I swapped the switches and both lights began working again. Thanks for the help!!
By swap you mean replaced, correct?
@@RonAllenTaylor I get the impression, based on prior comments, that he just swapped the left bulb and the right one into opposite placements. But that's just how I read it.
@@bryanwalter5752 thanks! The ac has since gone out, $1500 to repair 😊
This method shown in this video works fine on a Honda 2011 CRV. I needed to use an 8mm socket to take the screws out - to tight use a screwdriver. The process in this video is much simpler than other suggested methods on RUclips. (i.e. no need to remove and unplug the entire assembly)
I’m glad you found it helpful!
Excellent video. Got right to my problem. Bad switch on right side. I sprayed contact cleaner in the holes then blew them out with compressed air. Switch works good as new. Liked and subscribed!
That’s great!
Worked! I just removed the white switched and plugged them back in and they started working again.
That’s great!
This video is by far the BEST on youtube for this. Congrats! My problem is that on my 2004 Accord, the bulbs are ok, they work manually, but they dont work when I open the door, even having the DOOR position placed. I will fix this problem doing this? Thanks from Spain, master!
Thanks. I appreciate the kind comment. Do any of your lights work when your door is open? Do they work when any other doors are open?
@@TightWadDIY Negative, Sir. The lights only do work if I press the plastic panels, but none of them when the doors are open (passenger or pilot), or when I unlock the car with remote. Back seats light work fine when I open the rear doors.
@@alexg6374 It’s possible you have an issue with the front door sensors. Does it ding when you have the key in and doors open?
Swapping side with the oem ones definitely works I tried it worked out for me, thanks for video
Good to hear
My map lights worked fine (push-push, on-off) on my 2007 Civic. My problem was that they would not come on when the engine was turned off and the key extracted from the ignition, or when the door was unlocked. In the video, I noticed that the switches had three terminals. It occurred to me that one terminal was ground, one was to turn on the light, and the third must be a pass-through for the auto-on function. So, I removed the switches and sprayed them with contact cleaner. Now the auto-on function works perfectly.
Very nice video, thank you! I have a 2014 ridgeline and i thought the bulb was bad. New bulb wouldn't work so now i know what to do!!
Glad it helped
Thank you very much, I did it on a 08 odyssey, removed and switched location the switches.
Now both work.
I may last for a while,,, if not,,, I will new one

I greatly appreciate this demonstration! I ordered the switches!
That’s great!
Thanks so much for the link for that kit. The tool made the job so much easier. Question - any idea how to get the switches out from the back seat panel? It’s almost as if the switches are built into the piece.
Sorry we no longer have this car and I never tried to remove the rear one.
Best method for lens removal. Makes perfect sense. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
This video is great. It helped me to get my lights working again. Thank you.
Great video! My 2012 Ridgeline had this issue, now fixed thanks to you. But, my door lights and dome light won't come on. I am wondering if those screws you showed, go into a ground for door lights, or where that door ground is located.
Check your fuses or the door switch.
thank you for this video. Swapping the switches do the work for me on a 2014 Honda Ridgeline.

My pleasure. I hope it worked for you too! A lot of people have shared their success after replacing the switches.
I have same issue & am going to try swapping the switches to see if that works first. Did that with the bulbs & both bulbs are good.
Let me know!
@TightWadDIY I swapped the switches & it worked
I am having a similar problem. Neither visor lights nor overhead lights working, probably they have same wirings. fuses are fine but power not coming from down below. What could be an issue?
Good to know that I do not have to remove the entire panel to change the bulb. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome!
Thank you!! Will order the switches now.
My pleasure.
Thank you!! Amazon primed it. Parts will be here tomorrow
That’s great! Hopefully it solves your issues too!
That’s great news! I bet compressed air would help too.
Just wanted to say thanks this video is priceless!!
My pleasure. I’m glad it worked!
Cne thing you can try- pop the switches off. Use a small needle nose or small flat screwdriver. Bend each set of 3 switch contacts just a hair forward, then a hair down (toward the cupholders) . Pop the switches back in, push in wire connectors, bulbs. Test for function.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that worked!
Did you ever replace the other two lights with let's? If so can you provide an Amazon link?
Thank you for posting this video. I had a high hope that this would fix my non-working dome lights. I replaced both switches and the LED bulbs. But unfortunately the dome lights still don't lit. And I couldn't put the black screws back in. I thought my issue is not caused by a burnt fuse because it seems the fuse that is connected to the dome lights is also connected to other interior electronic devices which are working. Is there a fuse that only controls the dome lights? Do you have any suggestions?
Not that I’m aware of. Sorry.
@@TightWadDIY It turned out my assumption was wrong. It's the burnt out fuse in the engine room fuse box!
