- So happy to finally upload this one. I recorded it about two weeks ago. Flying Whales is one of my favorite songs from Gojira. Everything in this song is simply legendary I don't know how to describe it otherwise. There will be more from that album "From Mars To Sirius"
Mario Duplantier is just so sick. He just released a short clip on his Instagram of him playing this live... If you think I'm a hard hitter think again hahahaha
I hope you'll enjoy this one. A lot of work has been put in this video. I had to do it all over again because I screwed something up in the first version. I'm very proud of this one though. Have a nice day !

such perfection, the dynamics! and the part where you were playing the ride cymbal, were you reading the sheet music or just were staring at the huge cover art of the album on the wall? then around the outro parts of the sticks were flying around while hitting the ride bell! and then you were screaming at the end! so much energy, fun to watch! cheers!

How many takes would you say it takes you to nail a song like Flying Whales?

The number of takes depends. I did a lot of my youtube videos on the first take. It takes usually 3 to 4 takes and sometimes a bit more. For this song I had to do it all over again because I was disappointed with one of the parts I played.
To learn a song like this it takes a couple of hours. Flying Whales is a bit longer than most songs but I've been listening to it years before recording it. So I already knew the song more or less. A better example is "Born for one thing". I learned that the day after it came out. Took me about 5 hours total I think.
