I’d love to see you do a breakdown of Murmaider III or DEADFACE by Dethklok. Ethereal vibes, along with heavy crushing but melodic riffs. Flying Whales definitely exudes some big Dethklok energy.

About the growling, it is a spin off to what is known as belting in opera. So they are actually singing, thats how they manage to avoid damaging their vocal cords. But it requires a lot of control because you can damage your cords if you mess up. The fact these guys can tour for months and play full sets without a damaged voice is testament to their singing ability.
Thank you so much for reacting to this track. Gojira are truly inspired and this album is an educational tool for those who wish to learn about the nature of reality. "Awwwrite!!" 🙏💜
Joe is such a unique metal vocalist. He has the ability to create legitimately melody, even using guttural vocals. Those Black Metal style screams he does are so damn rich sounding.
I'm late to the party, but on that note about washing the guitars out with reverb: Gojira actually used to stack a ridiculous amount of guitar tracks on their records. I remember reading Joe saying that they had like 18 guitars playing the same riff on "Backbone." So that reverb sound you're hearing is just the small human differences in each track creating all of that space!
Aww hell yeah, another one of my fave bands! Everyone is excited for the new album dropping at the end of this month. Amazonia is a new single off of it, and everyone's reactions are getting blocked. A cool little info on something you said around 18:00, about the vocal chords not being totally ruined hahaha As a vocalist myself, there's no way you get such a complex distortion (like the ones you've been reacting to) being tense. If the muscles of your jaw, your tongue and pretty much all your vocal complex are tense, there'll be no space for resonance, and therefore, no harmonics and the spectrum of your voice will sound flat and maybe even a little muddy... and also, you use the note you're doing as a backbone for the distortion you're using on top of that to bring a little bit of brightness and sparkles (lol) to the sound. I mention that because, without that note, or any other "backbone" you're unprotected and then you'll surely be hoarse. but basically, relaxation and effortlessly singing is key to endure a 2h concert. which is funny, this looks nothing but rage and power and aggressiveness . When I first heard this song and the entire album, it really changed my view on what makes heavy music great. Gojira always push the boundaries with their music and it pays off for the listener. Especially those listening for the first time. Great video and reaction.

This is from album number 3, all the way back in 2005. It's actually a concept album, absolutely incredible. Silvera was from their most recent album (Magma, 2016), Born In Winter was from 2012's L'Enfant Sauvage (you really need to do the title track of that one!)
Gojira never disappoints; they are super professional, complex and creative always growing, from the 2 concerts I saw always evolving, great great band.
This album has such a unique sound, I think that's mainly because of that reverb on the guitar and drums. When I first heard this song, I remember it, it blew my mind. Especially that breakdown near the end, never heard anything like it. Sounds like freakin Flying Whales!
Flying whales is the song that got me hooked me on Gojira when From mars to sirius came out. And yes as others have said The art of dying is awesome. One of my favourite songs ever.
The whole album From Mars to Sirius has such a massive sound. Also, Joe has an almost multi-tonal voice when he does his screaming. I don't know if it's a combination of his natural voice and vocal fry or if he's possessed by an environmentally conscious deity, but it's cool as hell to listen to live or in studio.
