Cabinet refinishing | full painting process: dark maple to white

- Cabinet refinishing | full painting process - In this video I go over the entire process of kitchen cabinet refinishing from start to finish.
This was a nice set of kitchen cabinets made out of maple, with dark brown stain and precat lacquer. And we painted it to modern white. We started from protecting floors, walls and ceiling with masking paper, plastic and masking tape.
Then we remove all doors and de-grease them, wash them and sand with electric sanders. We spray shellac based bin primer with Graco airless sprayer wit fflp 208 tip and our final coat of 2k poly waterborne from Milesi with hplv turbine system from Graco.
Also In the video I go over what we take apart to spray on spray stand and what we spray in place.
This is my first full length RUclips Video , I'm extremely excited and appreciate you're taking the time to watch this! I hope this video helps you in some way.

Those cabinets look amazing! Nice job on your first post!! Now if you could just spray their counter-tops to another colour. Too much white!😄
@Valentin Yosef Meh I use flixportal. you can find it on google=) -cash
This is AMAZING Constantine, amazing as usual. This is very good idea to film your craftsmanship and let all these people know who you are and what you do. Nobody does it better in lower mainland and British Columbia! Constanta Brand - VIP Brand!
Incredible - the project looks gorgeous! Well done
Top notch job
I’m about to start sanding all my kitchen cabinets and just purchased the Surfpro system and was dreading the shop vac noise and that yellow outlet box that appears to start/stop automatically with the sander is brilliant!! Thank you for showing it, I’ll look for it! …….I laughed at the box of Tim’s Keurig, as a Canadian and coffee hound when Reno-ing. You give such great information, so freely, thanks, subbing 😊

thank you ! very nice of you 😊🤝🤝🤝❤
Thank you for your detailed explanation. I always want to paint my maple cabinets but I don't have your tools. Can I simply use roller or Bush to paint?
Can't believe it is your first job. Great job. Brilliant to watch. I am just getting into airless.
Why ? 😊😊😊
@@KonstantinUdalov cos really an amazing put together video. Props and keep it up mate.
Dope video 💪🏼💪🏼
thanks brother! you motivate me to keep filming more of them!
Man I wish you guys were based near me. This was probably the most professional cabinet refinish job I've seen. Great work. And great video.
😊😊🙌🙌 I’m flattered ! Thank you so much!

@@KonstantinUdalov if their work is anywhere as good as yours then it will be worth it for sure. I usually do all my own construction since I was in the business for many years. And I could never bring myself to pay someone to do a job that I could do, and always felt if I want it done right I have to do it myself. But I'm not a painter, I've been researching the correct way to refinish cabinets , but doing this job myself would take forever. Also I can see how if the proper steps are not done then the finish product won't last. Great idea posting your process to allow your customers to see what quality work you do. I'll shot you a msg on ig. I greatly appreciate that.
@@nyinfamous2k2Appreciate you brother! 🤝

Thanks!

Any time brother 👊🤙😊 lots more to come ! Hope you’re getting some value out of my humble beginnings with videos 😊🤝
Great informative video
Thanks 😊🤝 glad it helps
Hi Konstantin! You sprayed edges first while you’re spraying the back of the cabinet door. Do you also spray edges again while you’re spraying the front?
Yes we do . And we also tape and mask off with paper the backs to protect it from overspray
Great job, Konstantin. The cabinets look beautiful! I have a question...we want to use the shellac primer that you use and recommend. We have seen on another video that you can't/shouldn't use the shellac primer in a sprayer. We will be using a sprayer like yours. Do you have any problems with the shellac in the sprayer? Also, how do you clean it and what do you do clean the shellac from the sprayer when you are finished.
Thanks again for this very helpful video!
I use it all the time - but that machine is dedicated to bin shellac only . The reason why you don't wanna clean it all the time and switch from water to alcohol based is because of the contamination in the spray house, filters and the intake houses , I'd recommend to use regular hvlp cup gun if you do a one time project (super easy to clean) and you always clean it with methyl hydrate. If you still want to switch from bit to water based - use methyl hydrate then achetone then water. and take off all the filters and replace or clean them well. Important note is that this applies to graco 390 and more durable sprayers. Magnum x5 - x-19 - wouldn't spray it because the guts are not solvent resistant on those machines . so those ones only designed for water clean up.
You make it look so easy but we all know you need to be brave to take on a job like that but overall great job
Thanks a lot Edgar 🙌😊yeah Man It’s actually easy when you do it everyday .
Awesome job on disassembling what most are to lazy to do.
Thanks Will 😊🤝
Awesome video. Question, any concerns inhaling that hardner? Does Milesi sell precatalized paint & do you think that helps avoid potential health concerns? Thank you!
@@KonstantinUdalov Thanks! Definitely subscribed. Even if as homeowners we don't do this ourselves, this informs us of the things to ask and look out for. Much appreciated on the safety tips. If my understanding is correct, the paint used (top coat) with the hardner doesn't require a finish correct? If normal Acrylic paint is used (like Ben Moore Aura for example), what are your thoughts on a Milesi 2k poly?
Another question if you don't mind. The Graco sprayer was used for the whole project? Which one was it?
Much obliged and again, keep up the good work. Need more videos on this channel.
Hi Konstantin! Amazing work!
I live in Bellingham, WA and I have a painting business here. Always wanted to do kitchen cabinets since I've run my own business. I would love to come to your business or job site, check out your work and see how you achieve your great results. Of course only if you are ok with that!
Welcome 🤗 🤝😊 anytime
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Why do you spray shellac with the airless? Why don’t you just spray shellac with the HVLP ?Thanks
I’d spray and I do spray with hvlp. (The body of the kitchen ) But not on doors. For the doors we need the efficiency and speed - and it doesn’t run when sprayed flat.
I live in Arizona I just recently bought the sanding tools you use and also the Grocu sprayer. I want to repaint my kitchen. what is a paint you recommend.
2 component water based polyurethane.
Awesome man! came to your content htough Gary vee challenge! Nice beginning video!! If in need for a help with the video editing or tips let me know
Great video! What kind of sprayer are your using for the finish coats?
Either airless or a regular cup gun . Depending on what I spray
Great video. Informative. To the point. Detailed. Good presentation.
Can you comment on the differences in effectiveness of cleaning with Naptha vs Denatured alcohol vs acetone, vs krud cutter vs a combination of these?
I most commonly hear about using 50/50 DA mix. And least commonly I hear about naptha. What is the advantage of naptha?
Hi Aaron. Absolutely:
Both methods work really good, naphtha works a lot more effective however in the do-it-yourself environment it may not be the best solution if you don’t have an industrial shop or you work on your doors in the clients house it does smell. However if you have a shop or a garage where you do all your doors, the app that would be much more efficient way
Great video and excellent write up.
Do you think I can get by with a cheaper hvlp ? I already own the Graco Truecoat VSP. Would that spray the top coat you used ?
As of now in November 2020 - I use airless with a 308 fflp graco tip . No air introduced to the wb 2 k coating
@@KonstantinUdalov I use a 208 but yeah, an airless can be used and imo is much faster and produced nearly identical results. How does this product compare to Renner?
are you always using BIN shellac as a primer? do you use an airless sprayer for the application of 2kl also? where do you purchase your 2k milesi from in canada? my options are sherwin or dulux.
im sorry for these questions. im a small business on the east coast wanting to get into cabinets and i believe the way you do it is the smartest i have seen so far.
Thank you =) you can try to find any 2 component polyurethane that's available in your area - they are all good.
I just subscribed to your channel. How many days to finish a job like that
Glad to have you here Jorge! 😊🤝 typically it's 3-5 days for the doors ( now we finish them in our shop ) and 1-2 days for the on site process . Hope this helps )
Outstanding of a job . I wished you lived in Spokane wa. Could you please
List the products and the equal parts needed is this to big of a job for do your self job? Any recommendations for the area of Spokane wa. Thank you
Sorry unfortunately I don’t know anyone in that area.
The products were : primer : water based polyurethane primer and top coat. Both 2 component . from Milesi
good job
Thanks my friend 🤝😊🙌
Great job .. I'm a new subscriber and I have a question. Do you spray the frames and side panels with primer also before the finishing paint... Also do you use the same spray gun for both primer and finishing paint..?
Hi Atan. In this video I used different machines. But usually I use one machine for both. The key here is that your primer and top coat have to be both of the same nature - waterborne or solvent based. Don’t switch back and forth . The clean up is not worth the time and hustle .
Thanks
Great video! I did notice your losing your hair, I went to my doctor about 10 years ago and he gave me some finasteride. Boom the thinning spots all grew back and you would never know. Anyway if you even care might be something you want to check out.
🙌😊🤝🤝 I appreciate it 🤝🤝🤝
@@KonstantinUdalovawesome video my cabinets look amazing because of you.
I'm painting cabinets for the first time i want to use water based paint and primer because I'm using the same airless sprayer.. I would really appreciate if you recommend me the paint and primer to use
I’d recommend waterborne 2 component polyurethane . Google some of these brands to see what’s available locally : Milesi , Renner, Cic , Sirca, envirolak, ICA, Sivam
Is BIN your go to primer and if so why? Why would you not use a Milesi primer if using a Milesi topcoat?
Thank you
It used to be. Now it’s solvent based 2k polyurethane . Sirca Milesi renner ica
What Graco HVLP number tip size did you use ? 5? 4? Or 3?
Hey Chris. to be honest I used that machine ones and will never use it again. Check out my latest vids - I switched to airless and it's been such a great move!
Hey Konstantin. Do you have a clone or know anyone who uses the same painting techniques and paint in the Ft. Worth, Texas area? After seeing this wonderful video I just can't settle for anything less with my kitchen cabinets.
I’ll ask in the group 👌😊
@@KonstantinUdalovAnyone in Colorado as well?
very good video! Where do you buy Milesi?
From Innovative manufacturing here in Vancouver bro
looks like you didn't sand the boxes before spraying? Did you just de-grease them?
Hi Lauren . I never practice this . We always sand. Everything. Very aggressively . If you find someone who says you can get away without sanding - this is scam .😊👌
hello good job mate. can I use sp 380 sirlessco in my workshop ? without using compressor and pot gun? thx for unswer 👊

@@KonstantinUdalov awesome i will start fallow your channel good videos. I will look it today for sure and one more question what size of needle you use for top coat and why you guys use both systems for spraying? I use fuji turbine spayer for primer and top coat just curious
I used that turbine only once and didn’t like it much 😁 now I only run airless and air assisted airless (and cup guns in the shop)
@@KonstantinUdalov cool so what unit you own for airless with air assistant i use turbine just because is small unit and you can take it to jobsite and don't have to take compressor with you and obviously you need big unit for spraying
For airless I have graco 395, and 390 and air assisted airless - Sagola mini mix . Turbine is cool too but not for the doors (when you spray flat - airless is way faster and you don’t need to do 2 cress cross passes
Hello Konstantin. Do you know anyone in New Jersey who can do this as good as you. I wish you were from NJ area. 😀
I’ll find someone great for you ! 😊 I know a lot of great guys all across the country
great job buddy. i just wonder how much a job like that costs? can you give me an idea?
Hey Erick! Thanks man! Very quick answer is this one was around 4.5k usd , but Check out this Vid - I think it'll answer your question in details ruclips.net/video/l9yZhHsN5OQ/видео.html
@Boom Stick if you’ll find a homeowner who can do it at the level of quality we provide 🤓 and within a week! - I’ll hire that person’s immediately and make him or her my best employee 😊
@Boom Stick nice to meet you brother 😊🙌
Please note that adding the catalyst or hardener contains isocyanates and should be used with extreme caution and ppe with a fresh air system.
100% I agree. I now use it and promote it a lot. However there’s guys that find info from 3m that says that regular organic cartridges are sufficient. 🤷🏻
Where can I purchase Milesi product?

how much does it cost to refinish all the cabinets, I am having a maple color, I want to paint it white
Hi Randy 😊👋 just send me some pictures of your cabinets to my Instagram: and I’ll give you an idea 💡👌.

You can expect to pay at least $150 per opening (door/drawer, etc.)
I see in the video you are using a GRACO9.5 TURBINE SPRAY SYSTEM MILESI calls for only 5%reduction with water obviously it works did you reduce the paint more then 5% .I seen you in a later video and you changed to a air assisted airless. Maybe the 9.5 was not the easiest to work with. PLEASE COMMENT THANKS FRANK.
Yeah now I use airless . No reducer
Is that Bin primer water based?
No it’s not bro

Why did you take the crown off?
Hey brother. Can’t recall - I guess it was easier that way … I was still learning. It was 3 years ago 😊🤙
why wouldnt you take doors back to your shop
Because one year ago when I posted this video I didn’t have a shop 😊👌
Nice job....... I want to learn more about this product, and Renner, I live in NC and the store it's about 1:45 minutes from home, I do have experience with SW chemicals, I do finish bank furniture but I want to do my own business on the side, the downside it's the fact that since I'm new in this matter I don't know how to price the projects, I have done a few kitchens in the past but I was paid by the hour, and I don't think it was very beneficial for me, I'm not saying by any means that I want to get rich with a couple jobs, I just want to be fair with the customer and myself, also I like the idea about using WB products, that is why I want to learn all about them, I'm assuming that the stores can add the TDS for the material and check drying times, how many coats , compatibility etc.... Thank you and keep doing this great job, it look amazing, by the way where did you get the door rack, I use staples and hooks to spray them then I hang them in a rack I need out of pipes, you know , spray both sides at once.
Thanks for the kind words brotha! 1 ) door rack is from richelieu - google it - you'll find one in your area. 2) pricing - you can find me on instagram and send me pictures of your potential clients kitchens - I'll price them out for you.
Thank you man, I will open an instagram account , other than that do you have an email ? I would love to send pics or video of some jobs, therefore perhaps you put me in the right track, I have some tools to do the job ,but I want to invest in some hvlp turbine system.... Apollo graco, fuji , what would you recommend?...... Also I need to understand more about materials, I want to be ready and prepare myself, I enjoy watching you videos and foremost the work ethic and the knowledge from you part hopefully you will be able to help me out thanks a lot K ....
Yeah man send them to my email (you’ll find it in my about channel section) - wouldn’t suggest any sprayer before I know what you spray bro
