If they hadn't of made the entire questline here a pop culture reference to Indiana Jones, this would've been the best zone. The atmosphere is so perfect in a way that no other games have really been able to capture.
@teengirlsquad52 I'd beg to differ on that...pick a zone from cata, any one (not "all zones") and tell me which one sounds like this...for that matter tell me which pieces of music sounds exactly the same...I'll give you the night elven themes though
Well that's kind of the beauty of Uldum. If you look closely, it's not entirely Egyptian themed. There are some Mayan influences in the structures and the Tol'vir are designed in such a way that they are more closely in line with the Greco-Roman sphinx than they are the Egyptian one, as well as looking somewhat like cat-centaurs. There's subtle things like that all throughout the zone that, even though the theme is predominantly Egyptian, help it to stand out and give it a little extra flair.
@Oromis0011 Trolls are a direct take on Rastafarian and African cultures. The Dwarves are a twist on Scottish and Scandinavian culture, not to mention the fact that the Orcs were originally conceived by Tolkein for LotR and based on warlike vikings. Almost every aspect of this game is based on mythology, a pre-existing culture, and pop culture. Why is it then that Uldum sucks just because it's based on Egypt? And by the by, a zone filled with towering monuments and oases isn't exactly empty.
OK who agrees with me: when i hit 83, lv / quest here till 85.. then just stay here to hang out.. i mean really?! this place is so cool from pics and videos ive seen, ill just hang out there all day...
@xXEryarXx Uldum had a device that "sealed off" its location from the rest of the world and made it not visible, but the cataclysm has ruined that device.
From the looks of it, having Halls of Origination similar to Halls of Stone/lightning, i'm betting there might be an dessert-like Ulduar raid dungeon in the future..maybe idk
@KeizerXilian yes but they've been changed enough to have their own atmosphere that distinguishes them enough from the very source they were derived from. I don't see that with Uldum at all. Take a look at the Tuskar in Northrend for ex. Created from the Inuit culture yet changed enough (giant sea turtle ferries for ex) to have there own unique culture. Uldum needs a better Blizzard touch as it lacks evolution compared to the things you listed. Some voices on those cat dudes would be a start.
why do ppl say this zone is so awesome? It's just a freakin desert with a rip off theme of egyptian culture, so much so that the very buildings are almost direct replica's of stuff in egypt...this zone is boring and empty. Vash'jr and Deepholm were the epic, ORIGINAL zones in Cata. Just being honest.
No, there has never been a point where something Egyptian hasn't been awesome, unless it's a very badly made sci-fi movie. But, more to the point, this music is excellently themed, and as awesome as the rest of the zone.
@gwatson2006 I've listened to both, and I'm afraid I'd have to disagree with you, though they both have slightly similar elements in them, they are over all different and quite easily distinguishable
@Freakylittlethingy i meant a real uldum themed raid with all the pyramids n stuff like a raid version of halls of origination, tot4w is just the OS of cata
Sure uldum is boring, but they put great quests into the game. The Harrison jones quests are great, and the zone dungeons are the best! So is the music :D
I remember wandering in there when I was lvl30 or 40 just out of curiosity and getting killed by some insect the second I got inside x)

This song always got me nostalgic...when I was searching the statue..or the sand flask...
man the first part makes me remember majora mask for some reason
@malonze10 hell yeah, I'm cruising Uldum at lvl81 just because its so nice!! (and I can max my mining :D)

Egyptian and proud. :))
i liked tanaris but we needed a second desert zone, wich REALLY improves on mysteries and old treasures, Silithus was not good enough, I LOVE ULDUM!!

@snaffu1 cause ya stone tower temple...lets make a moderately annoying dungeon and then to make it worse...LETS INVERSE IT TOO. god damn it nintendo.
@kisgeck0 I think he means SPEHS MAHRENS - Space Marines as spoken by Captain Boreale, don't know what that has to do with anything
Is it just me, or does this music almost feel like it came out of KOTOR at some parts? Especially in-game when it starts a cinematic.
@malonze10 me 2:P i stoped wow and i still hear i and i want 2 start again cause of this place i will when panadaria come out
When this music plays in the opening Uldum cinematic... it really sucks you into the atmosphere. Love this music :)
Everyone be sure to check out part 2 as well. Some of the best parts of the music in Uldum are contained in part 2.
tbh think the only way Uldum could have been more epic is if every quest had the Indiana Jones theme playing.
If the whole Uldum track is like, 14 minutes long, why is the song on the album only like, 5 minutes? D:
@Tarkye Yeah, reminds me of Ikana and Stone Tower a lot. Definite elements of it coming to mind.
@darkarbiter5 why is it excellently themed? its sounds like all the other music in the new xpac.
lvl 80 to 83 speedlevelling
lvl 83 to 85 taking 10 mins to kill a mob
thats how i enjoy cata
wow at 1:17 you can hear a faint sound like someone breathing in to play the instrument
You are correct anything egyptian themed is boss.
uldum music is disappointing. there is just too much dissonance for my taste
@Undeadguy95 SPAJS MARIHNS?! some sort of egyptians with troll DNA or what?
@CBleck The new tanaris theme is almost like this:
watch?v=K0qIttZLLq4
Blizzard should made an entire expansion based on Uldum's theme.
I wanted to hear this music so bad that I went there as lvl 60
@Unknown112112 its still an awesome place to go questing at :D
@kisgeck0 We better call the SPAJS MARIHNS !!!!
dude i hate uldum its boring...cant wait to get out
i want to travel to Egypt
what the hell are the necrons doing here?
@Alrogue My deck is full of trap cards.
I loved Uldum, best zone in Cataclysm
arathi highlands? whats that?
i love uldum!
