- The games industry can sometimes be a truly turbulent place, and witnessing promising studios and franchises being pushed to the wayside in favor of projects that are known for a fact would sell well is commonplace. Over the years, many fan-beloved IPs have fallen to the ground for this reason alone, which includes Iguana Entertainment’s Turok.
This first-person shooter involving dinosaurs and aliens was a formula ripe for success, and the team did a great job at realizing the potential with a handful of great entries in the franchise. Of course, there hasn’t been a new Turok game in quite a while which begs the question - what the hell actually happened to Turok?

Turok really needs to make a comeback it has so much potential honestly, a mixture of horror, alot of action not to mention it has dinosaurs and aliens!!! They could completely reboot the original turok series from the N64 era or even do something new like the one from 2008 or 2009. I really hope it comes back! There needs to be more Dinosaur games!
I think they should also remake the Dino crisis series if y’all remember those, I thought they were pretty cool

Put simply, I think the Turok franchise disappeared because the market became oversaturated with FPS games and COD clones, beginning with the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii. Back in the N64 era, the original trilogy stood out way more.
I think a new open world Turok could be amazing!
Imagine if Turok got the same kind of incredible TLC reboot that Doom got in 2016.

Hopefully, with Nightdive remastering 1 and 2 there's a spark of interest in the series again. 1 & 2 was my childhood and I still do playthroughs once a year.
Nightdive did amazing work with them too, including multiplayer 👍

They're so replayable. Even Turok 2 with it's insanely massive levels is so fun to replay, especially with the warp system added in the remaster.
I loved Turok (2008) on 360. I was gutted they never made another one. Such a shame.
I remember being 11 years old and playing this on the 360. The blood and gore was awesome. Hunting dinosaurs? Hell yeah!
We didn’t need another dino themed Halo clone that called itself Turok.

@@axelstone3131 I think most people would have known I was referring to “Turok” 08. And the only generic game here is T08, Halo revolutionized an entire genre and industry and all this game did was bury a beloved franchise into irrelevancy.
@@alexgomez6723 there was going to be a Turok sequel but the studio went bankrupt. The game itself was successful. A lot of people really enjoyed it including myself.
What happened? Disney shut down Propaganda Games who were trying to make a sequel to Turok 2008. The sequel had potential as the devs were listening to the fan feedback and trying to bring in more classic Turok elements.
Doesn't help that the original devs from the N64 games no longer exist either.
Hope Nightdive Studios remasters the other Turok games and Aliens Vs Predator 2 2001.

100% hope they do, it’s unfortunate that this awesome franchise has been in a state of dormancy, but thankfully nightdive studios revitalized the two classic turoks. And yeah the cancellation of turok 2 that was being made by propaganda games was a major disappointment. Hope a new game comes into being, I wonder if nightdive studio has any plans for a new turok game? Hopefully because, I don’t know when a triple A studio is going to make a new turok game, and do it justice.

I absolutely loved Turok. It's one of my top favorites and most wanted comebacks. Also no one's really done a proper dinosaur game ever, so it would have major grounds to get attention.

I remember getting turok 64 for Christmas as a child and was stuck on the first jumping puzzle for months.

One of my fondest\hated memories of Turok 2 was the save points. Since you could only save in specific spots it would force you to keep playing trying to find them again or loose all your current progress.

Man, sometimes finding those save points were a nightmare. I remember having to pause the game because I needed to leave the house, praying that the game wouldn't be frozen when I returned. And then there's the suspense of having to traverse these looooonngg segments with little health hoping you didn't die before the next save point. Recounting it now makes me feel like a Vietnam veteran telling combat tales; it's a mixture of nostalgia and PTSD.
@@trenton9 hell yea. And not having a save pack for memory just sucked ass. You just had to replay everytime and try to speed run it hahaha
I remember winning this game from a radio station in Seattle when I was12. I took the day off school to go pick up my prize, got it home and was blown away with it. Goldeneye wasn't out yet and this was totally insane to me. Slashing dudes with the knife and watching them writhe around in the ground choking for air with blood spurting out. Hadnt seen anything like it at the time.
Used to scare me when I was super young lol one of the first games I can remember owning

I played the heck out of turok on ps3 when it released. Wish they make another one. Heck, I probably won't be mad for just a remaster or something. I just miss turok 😪

I’ve been wondering about this for years! One of my favorite game series. The Xbox 360 one was so much fun to play with friends. The last one they made for Xbox 1 was so graphically appealing to me at the time and I really enjoyed it.
My dream game is for Retro Studios to reboot Turok. A large portion of the team that made Turok 1 and 2 are the same people that went on to form Retro Studios and make Metroid Prime. Now I've heard that the current Retro staff is very different than it was then, but I'm sure they could do some hirings and get the band back together.
Imagine: a new Turok from Retro Studios on the Switch 2.
I have such fond memories playing Turok 2 as a child. Lol. I bought the remasters recently and loving them. I would love for the series to be revived properly.

Those two lines are literally seared into my brain. Turok 2 was an instant classic.

Damn I can't believe I forgot about this franchise. Brings back good memories. It's probably been gone to long with so much fps competition to make an impact if it came back.

The last turok I've ever played was on ps3. We need a new turok but with all the unfinished broken games releasing and micro transactions I say just leave it how it is.
The lost turkey game comes 2009
Yeah, even Turok 2008 on Xbox 360/PS3/PC sold map packs for the multiplayer and co op mode.
Today? It's even worse with all the microtransactions, loot boxes, etc.
Turok 2 is my favorite in the series. I love both remasters though and often revisit.
I was so obsessed with these games when I was younger! 1 and 2 were so awesome! I still can’t believe that the series didn’t take off with current gen. The reboot was just not good.
This game was fun yet difficult back when I played. I enjoyed this franchise and would love to see it return.
This game on N64 BLEW MY MIND back in the 90’s. Of course being stoned probably helped but at that moment, 3d first person was my true love. Kinda crazy how Nintendo is no longer appealing to me

It’s 2022 and I have 1-3 on the 64 and I recently bought Turok 1 and 2 on the Nintendo switch to relive those memories. I wish they would remaster the rest of them or make a new one. That would be awesome

I'll never forget playing Turok 2 at Babbage's in the mall right before Christmas. It was so amazing it was like VR today.

Turok Dinosaur Hunter was my first shooter, and I followed the franchise all the way through. Nothing will ever compare to the feeling of playing these games for me.
Turok 2 is one of the greatest sequel video games of all time! Legendary.
Turok is amazing since it’s one of those games you can vaguely describe and everyone will know what you are talking about it’s “the one where you shoot dinosaurs” even though I never really played turok I’ll also never forget it because of that
I remember the reboot of Turok I thought it was really good super underrated in my opinion.
The first 3 ganes I owned was Gokden Eye, Turok & Snowboarding 1080 when I got my Nintendo 64 way back in the late 90's.
Fun fact, on both the original Turok 2 and the two PC versions, you can use the cheat menu from multiplayer to warp to a single player level...and co-op it to a limited degree.
I worked at Propaganda Games during Tron and the reason Turok sucked was that Disney took over Prop to work on Tron and Pirates (another game that was cancelled), when they saw the "insane build" with blood, guts, awful shit.. they had prop take all that stuff out, didn't want Disney associated with that insane amount of violence. I saw a build of Turok that was very early in stages. Prop wasn't messing around when it came to violence. It brought it back to the roots and made it extremely graphic.
Turok Evolution was my fave game of the series and the first one I ever played. I just wish that they iron out the controls for the flaying part and made a sequel to the game taking to the head boss.
I wish the sequel for turok 2008 was never cancelled :(

Imagine remakes of the first 3 Turok games in similar quality to the remakes of the first 3 Resident Evil games.
Id settle for a port of Shadow of Oblivion ala the ports of 1 and 2 by Nightdive but a full remake or sequel of any of those games would be a godsend

Let id Software make a new Turok game from scratch. This franchise deserves a reboot.
Turok evolution was my game on the gamecube lol. Idk if it's a good game in the series but I had a blast with it as a kid
Rage Wars was A MASSIV Multiplayer hit which is often overlooked the Campaign together with Friends unlocking new Chars new weaps just to slay u and your friend even more in a brutal way like sticky mines , homing rockets etc. etc. it was so much fun i rlly loved the time ... 4ppl + 1 TV + 1 N64 = Massiv hit
Turok Evolution is a great game. The sound tracks are epic. Lizards might have beat out the monkeys as humans if it wasn't for those dam floods.

Be it back in the day on my N64 and CRT TV, the remaster on Xbox One, or just watching these clips, I still get really bad motion sickness with the original 2 Turok games.
What is it about them that just makes me feel sick?
I still loved playing them, but could only stomach about 20-30 minutes before having to turn off.
i actually liked this game pretty much. could have been better but the setting alone, fighting against dinosaurs and humans was kinda great and is stil pretty unique since there is no other shooter game like this. wish they would remake something like this with UE5 and a wide world. would be freaking awesome

Turok 2 got me. Unmatched for its atmosphere. The sounds, the loneliness and eerie feeling as each map gave a new biome. And felt big; play all over - didn’t feel linear and no silly boss fights. It didn’t need better graphics IMO, I’d already come from Doom etc and so the N64 was already a step down - that didn’t matter. The gameplay-mechanics (albeit tricky), voices, weapons, unlocks, all led to great feel.
I’m hoping for some awesome new titles. But this is one I’d happily pick up if re-booted. (The last one I played didn’t impress, ps3?)

I always wondered what Turok 4 for the N64 might be like. Imagine a weapon that carries stacks of mini Razor Winds that can be fired as fast as you can pull the trigger. I imagine Turok entering a dark cave, only to hear screeches begin to echo all around and as he looks up, insane albino pterodactyl-like bats come out of the gloom, swooping down at him in droves. They snap and claw at him with razor sharp teeth and claws. He begins to fire the Razor Wind weapon haphazardly as blood and body parts rain down all around him. Eventually, he becomes overwhelmed and has to escape through an underground river system that carries him far out into a new area of the jungle...just a scene I used to fantasize about back after Turok 3 came out lol.

I think the 2008 version is underrated, I honestly thought it was badass and awesome.
2008 was my fav. Handling didn’t feel very smooth, but the story was awesome. Just a really cool take on it. And those knife animations were amazing.
Evolution was my personal favorite. Imagine a new one with every dinosuar now known to man that would be such a badass game why does it not exist. Fans should take this into their own hands. I wish i knew how to make games

I still remember when i was a kid I had it for N64 but its saving system required like a memory stick or card or something ,which i didnt have at that time. So i would wake up early in the morning to try to finish it in a day...couldnt do it :p
Turok: Rage Wars was an absolute blast to play! The Claw trap, Sentry Turret, Cerebral Bore, were really good weapons in the game. The Monkey and Chicken mode was pretty funny. Turok: Evolution was ok. Turok on the PS3 was pretty sweet.
Wow haven’t seen this game title in yrs…I still remember playing the original game on the Nintendo 64…was a good game why till this day I prefer campaign style games, they made you think having to figure out and find different objects Boi did it feel good to finally figure something out after 3 Days of trying
If I was in Charge to make another Turok Game would pitch 2 ideas.
1. This Turok would take Place during the Wild West Days where Turok is a Comanche Brave Warrior and is fighting against a US. Army Calvary Solider. They both get transported to the Lost Lands must learn to work together to survive their new environment. As they fight to find their way home they learn to respect one another as Warriors and ultimately find a way home.
2. This Turok takes place during WW2 where Turok is a Navajo Wind Talker and is fighting with his US. Marine against the Imperial Japanese Army as they fall into a Portal into the Lost Lands. As Turok and the Marines try to survive the Lost Lands they must also Stop the Imperial Japanese Army who have Allied themselves with Dinosaurians who see them as Dragon Gods from taking over earth during WW2.
Turok has protentional to become a great franchise again if given the proper love and respect to the fans.

Personally I'd love it if there was a proper remake. That encompassed the first two games and then Rage Wars. Say what you will about RW, but the only reason people hated it was it didn't have a single player mode. And yeah it'd be like if Perfect Dark was split into two games. We got a chance to fix that. Having the first two campaigns put together similar to many of the Doom re-releases. And then having that multiplayer mode with more advanced bots to do deathmatch in. Online matchmaking, online co-op, maybe even an online mode that has one player playing Turok doing the campaign and another player controlling one of the NPCs.
Turok evolution was my favorite. The 1st turok game is what introduced me to FPS games and I wish the series would make a come back by sticking to its roots story wise while bringing in the newer fps elements in gameplay. I've played all but the so called reboot and own 1 and 2 remaster and evolution on the gamecube still. I think with the right developers it would be a big hit in the oversaturated zombie gaming world.
My first Turok game was Evolution on Xbox. I played it for so many hours. I'm really considering looking to find a way to play it again. Then again will it be able to keep up with ARK 2?

I don't think people wouldn't mind to much if Rage Wars did get a Remastered. Rage Wars Remastered would work so well in 2 player coop, Local and online play. As long as they fix the Monkey tag bug it would be awesome. Plus the weaponry in Rage Wars are just absolutely devastating. I don't really hate Turok 3 as much.
Turok for the N64 was my first fps. By the way I still have my system and all my games. Turok was fantastic! Months and months of playing and finally finished it! Then came Turok 2 Seeds of Evil! This was the best fps games in my N64 in my collection!! Then came the Expansion Pack! It vastly improved the graphics!!

Me and many fans disagree with Turok 3 being the downfall of the franchise.
Hell, many people don't even know that T3 even exists.
The true downfall of the franchise was Acclaim rushing games out the door.
T3 was made in just under 9 month, with the retail version being unfinished.
It also didn't help that T3 was released at the ass end of the n64's life cycle.
Evolution was even more rushed than 3, with a lot more cut content compared to 3.
Pretty much every old Turok fan agrees that the 2008 reboot was when the franchise truly died.
Love the first few games in this series! Didn’t play any past the N64 games. I bought the re-releases on steam and they are still great. :) I hope they bring back Turok someday. :) AND RE-RELEASE RAGE WARS ON STEAM!
Quake came out before Turok and I only paid $50 for it at launch. I still have it for N64
There is possibly no game besides Final Fantasy X have I played more than Turok 2 Seeds of Evil. Nightdive really kicked it out of the park with the remaster with full mod support. Hopefully in the future we can get a real new entry to the series that sticks to the vision Iguana had for it. My father and I had so many hours of fun with monkey mode, even with just 2 players its fun as hell. Basically hide and seek with one player as the monkey.
If there's ever a good remake or a proper turok 4 that picks up after 3 than I'd buy that the day of release
