Is This Remaster of A 23 Year Old Game Worth It? (Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered Review)

- Originally released in 2000, Turok 3: Shadows of Oblivion is a classic shooter following up on the events of its predecessor. The game continues the series trend of featuring entertaining single player campaigns with inventive weapons that are a lot of fun to play around with. Add in the fact that there are multiple characters to play as, with each featuring their own weapon upgrade options, the title offers up a lot of replayability.
The only downside to the remaster of Turok 3: Shadows of Oblivion is the fact that the original game’s local multiplayer modes didn’t make the jump to modern systems. Aside from that, the remaster is excellent; it features sharper visuals while still maintaining its retro art style, and despite its bigger focus on the story, the game doesn’t waste too much of your time before throwing you into the action. Next time when you're going through the game's weapons, consider showing them in the video edit versus just describing them and running around with a bow and arrow.
😅
Good suggestion
Damn right… It's like they recorded most of their footage from a single level and cut it up into ribbons and just placed it underneath the dialogue. Show us the weapons for goodness sake instead of rambling on about them as if we're supposed to know what they look like, for those who haven't played it.
Man I hope we get a modern remake at least. Turok series should have never died.
I hope this sells well..... I'd like a new turok from nightdive studios someday. I enjoyed the system shock remake.
They don’t make new sequels. Your correct answer would be “I hope they remaster more obscure cult classics”
@kyledodson2992 no. I meant what I meant. What's wrong with you?
@@jamesjackson6563 I’m telling you they don’t make new games, they remake/remaster. That’s their whole thing lol
@@kyledodson2992what's your thing? Being a dinkus
@@ericseanlynch I’m just relaying actual information lol they only do remasters as of now. Their website provides this very information
I bought it asap. I didn't care about the price I enjoy it even though they have a bundle for all 3 turoks for I think $50 or $60 but either way it is new I do believe in update in the future to make it multi-player hopefully with bots and online battle even though it won't be alot of people I only did 1v1 on turok 2 once and after that I couldn't match a battle again but besides that I enjoy them all and now that I'm a grown adult and know that the heck I'm doing without getting lost its even better. Also, if anyone is interested in doing an online battle, let me know. I'm up for it. I'm on Xbox One
I just played with both characters, its the same game with some different routes, strategies, weapons, it has replayability, its not the best turok game, but its a good game and a turok game and that should be enough for any non turok fan series. The remaster, graphics, sound subtitles etc are just perfect. BUY it.
I can’t wait to play this again again. I really hope it comes to Xbox. I have Turok, the dinosaur Hunter and Turok seeds of evil. It would be good to add this to the collection. I remember Turok rage wars too
It's out right now on Xbox Series X, PS5, PC, Switch $29.99
@@mattfayne9691physical copy?
@@AllThingsInfamous1Limited Run Games did physical copies of the first 2 remasters for PS4 and I think Switch. So I think it's inevitable we'll get at least a PS5 and Switch one from them. Not sure about the other consoles honestly.
@@AllThingsInfamous1 T3 remaster didn't release physical. I bought digital. I just beat the game and still didn't get the invincible and unlimited ammo cheats. Should have never bought this game. I literally ONLY bought it for the cheats, so I could screw around. Have no clue why Nightdive devs are being such dicks about the cheats on the third one.
Most underrated turok
As a fan and owner of the orginal 3 Turok games on the N64 I could not wait for Turok 3 Remasted and Night Dive Studios delivered! Unlike the first 2 games which had PC ports, Turok 3 had no PC port and required more work to bring it to consoles which I believe justifies the cost not to mention T3 is a much bigger game than the first 2 Turok games. The good news is that all 3 games work perfectly on the Steam Deck and if you own the first 2 games on Steam, you get a discount on T3. I really hope this does well and would love to see a Rage Wars and a multiplayer DLC for this game.
😂😂😂😂😂 how is Turok 3 a much bigger game than the first two? Turok 3 only has 5 levels and they're relatively short. I beat the game twice within a week. Took me month or 2 to beat the first two. The lair of the blind ones alone is longer than turok 3 lmao.
@@ryandixon7604 Very impressive! Work for me have been very busy so I have not really had a chance to put some quality time in T3. I am still trying re-play the games in order and I have not finished the original Turok. I can tell you T3 is much more of a straight forward game than the first 2 but T# is definitely a bigger. I have all 3 games on my Steam Deck. I just pulled up the game files and the original Turok is 259.4 MB, Turok 2 is 761.4 MB and Turok 3 is 1.18 GB.
I remember playing as a kid and thinking the game was so difficult without cheats lol. Mouse and kb controls definitely help, finished my first playthrough on normal in about 3 hours
It’s about 3 hrs long, but I still happily paid the 30$… why? Game’s preservation, and also, this kind of thing would never happen without Nightdive
The problem now is I'm missing four other secrets of the cheats unlimited ammo demigod mode and others I don't know if you got to beat the game with new other characters or I don't know what I'm doing wrong
@@kenzie1989 did you beat it with all 4 characters?
@@kyledodson2992 not yet I just unlocked the two if that's why I need to do then, I see ☺
@@kenzie1989 lol yeah, play all 4 and you should get the pip
Hopefully they do Rage Wars
Hopefully LRG does a physical release to go with the first two.
They currently are
You forgot the fact modern game developers want you to forget local play exists
The remaster is great! Love it
Agreed!
Same I had a blast with Turok 3 and beat the game yesterday
2 was my favorite.
2 is also my favorite, but 3 is basically a forgotten gem imo.
I agree, T2 is an absolute masterpiece. The best fps of all time for me.
Not having Multiplayer is not a downside, and local would have been underutilized. And with normal MP youd have to worry about them shutting down the servers at some point. As far the game, Linear is a nice change imo.. With the other 2 games id ALWAYS get lost trying to find a key or something, more so with the 2nd, so not having to do maze crawling while looking for stuff as much as the others is an overall boost to the game imo.
The game does look fun
It is!
@@why_so_serious indeed
I just watched todays gameranx release and commented about how a turok remaster would be amazing lol hopefully someone remasters the 1st game and does it in a quality way. Kind of like the dead space remake/
… not to be mean but… turok was remastered in 2015, and Turok 2 in 2017
I reckon they meant to say remake but people do use the term interchangeably for some reason.
Only played the first 2. Should be a good time
Damn I remember this! I hope they remaster dino crisis too
It's a huge shame the multiplayer isn't here. I remember playing the hell out of it with my sis. We'd slap 2 bots in and have a ball, especially on the mode where you turned into a small monkey, lol
I wanna get it. But i honestly can't justify $30 for a remaster. Especially since all of Nightdive's other remasters (including the 2 previous Turoks) are always $15 or $20. However when a sale hits that puts it in that price range, I'll grab it like the other 2.
It's 30 because of the amount of extra legwork they needed to even consider making this happen.
@@RetroDeathReviews666 I'm aware it took more work (no PC version). But it is still at the end of the day a remaster of an almost 25 year old game at half the price of a new game. So I can wait a bit. My game catalog has plenty to tide me over for now.
The humble bundle just came out and it has all 3, i’m debating getting it for $20
30 bucks? Nope. I'll wait for a deep sale...
Same. I get they needed extra work on this one since there was no PC version to work off of. So they had to dig through N64 code. But that's steep. I thought the previous 2 at $20 was pricey. I can wait. I had the game when it first came out on the N64. So it isn't as "new" to me as it is some people since this one had no PC release.
I don't think Turok 3's voice acting is *that* bad. There's *FAR* worse examples out there. Turok 3's voice acting is "tolerable" in my opinion.
40 dollars Canadian for an HD version of an N64 game? Seriously?
I would want remastered collection set for Turok games on Xbox one console
& PlayStation 4 console as well.
Why can't any of these be available for stores not stream apps 😕
They already have one… are you a bot? Or just that ignorant ?
You never had to rely on lock ons or toggling between moving and aiming on 99% of the shooters on N64, genius.
Wish they would do Dark forces
If you are talking about star wars dark forces then it is been remastered releases on February28th 2024.
Yeah, Nightdive is doing a remaster of Dark Forces that comes out at the end of February as @AJediKnight1said.
This was the only turok I could finish for some reason, it was far less confusing and more enjoyable. My opinion of course.
Turok 3 Shadows of Oblivion just kinda Sucked. They changed Weapon Models, turned some Iconic Weapons into Stupid Attachments, and even the Basic Weapons like the Shotgun doesn't even look like it's Turok 2 Counterpart. The Graphics on the OG T3 were Lacking. It felt like a Downgrade from the Previous 2 Titles, Turok Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2 Seeds of Evil. Yeah Graphically Worse than those 2. You only had a Bar for your Healthand a Bar for your Ammo. And the PSG was actually a Required Weapon in order to beat Oblivion itself otherwise you either have to fight like hell or just Die a Lot until you lose all your Lives.
Also Bosses were a Let Down too. They just Suck, they didn't have any Ques to let you know what they were doing. Totally Unpolished. And the Enemy Variety was Meh. Nothing interesting about them.
Speak for yourself; I always turned of Aim Assist (even on N64) and used the C-buttons like WASD on a keyboard or a C-Stick (minus analogue controls). You noobs still use Aim Assist in modern games and let the Wiimote´s pointer fall by the wayside. Shame on you.
It’s 40 bucks on psn 😂
Thats weird, I paid €28,99 yesterday on ps4 here in Holland.

NIGHTDIVE STUDIO DEVS SCREWED US!!!
For Turok remaster 1-2, cheats were accessible right from the get go. However, for the third one, Nightdive suddenly decided FOR us, in typical fascist style, that we don't need cheats for the first playthrough. And so they locked them, and are only unlocked AFTER you beat the game. There are many problems with Nightdives brain dead, stupid a** decision and why it makes ZERO sense.
#1. Why require a full playthrough first, when every Turok fan has already beat the game multiple times.
#2. Why require a full playthrough first, when Nightdive DID NOT require it for the first two remasters??? The hypocrisy and double standard really shines here!!!
#3. We don't need game devs deciding FOR us, when it comes to cheats. We're all adults and can choose for ourself. We don't need a daddy and mommy telling us,
''NO CHEATS FOR YOU! Until you beat it first, even though you've already beat it many times. BECAUSE I SAY SO!!! And I will decide FOR you. In fact, I will lock them so you cannot access them until the game is beat for the 100th time. No fun allowed, until I SAY SO''!!!
Game devs are becoming baby Hitlers!!!
Bro I think you're getting a bit too triggered that you can't buy a game and immediately cheat your way through it. You must really have hated GoldenEye on the N64 since you had to earn the cheats on there at first. The button commands were long for each cheat and not made public knowledge for over a year. I know since I was there. The only unique code you can't earn and need a button code for is a wireframe mode.
@@danielthomas7193 dont bother, this lame person is posting the same copy & paste comment in all turok 3 remaster review videos he can find, guess he didn´t got enough attention as a kid or something.

And no, I LOVED GoldenEye. I cheated on that one too! I had a Game shark back in the day. The time when devs had no issues with cheats. Today though, it seems there is a war on them. If someone dares mention they want to use them, they get all kinds of crap from people like you, and others. At one time it was just a normal thing, they made games more fun.
I can't tell if this is bait or not lol.
Imagine saying a dev studio "screwed you" because they decided you shouldn't cheat your way through your first playthrough. Regardless if you've beaten it before on the console or not. Experience the remaster freshly.
