I've been a fan since you demonstrated that Sergio's lag is largely a 2D camera artefact. I am 56, self and RUclips coached. I've been mid-single hcp for as long as I can remember and I enjoy practicing. Since I started following you two years ago, i've come in to +2 and have had a lot of fun on the course. Hey guys. My name is Shawn. I'm a golf fitness instructor and have three certifications in golf biomechanics and understand the golf swing pretty well. I watch a lot of golf videos. Some are good and some are bad (really bad) and one is excellent and that would be you. You guys have increased my understanding of the golf swing ten fold. Thank You! I would love to see a video on how the wrists gently hinge and set on the way to the top of the backswing. I tend to hinge a little early which bring the club inside and off plane. I still get to a good position at the top but that early hinge and set creates tension in my hands and consequently my brain wants to use that tension to help create speed. How about a drill to get tension out of the hands on there way to the top. It doesn't seem like a big deal but I know it has consequences throughout the downswing and release. Thanks guys and I appreciate your fantastic videos! You are the best instruction online.
With my students.... to get them to feel width... I have them feeling that they are keeping their knuckles as far from their right ear as they can. They are able to feel when they collapse that width when they feel their knuckles get closer to their ear. Works like a charm for my students.
@@AthleticMotionGolf Yes... when their eyes are on the ball.. they have no visual reference to where their hands are, so they need to feel where they are.. and keeping the knuckles away from the ear is simple to remember and easy to feel. ..and most importantly, is they can feel when they collapse that width... they can easily sense when the hands get closer to the ear, and are able to correct it very quickly.
Hey... did you get my message about a video suggestion? About the trail heel coming up before impact VS keeping the trail heel down until impact. I would like to see some GEARS analysis of that. cheers guys.
I recently discovered your RUclips site and applaud your use of technology to demonstrate the 3D movements of the body parts in the swing. I was wondering if you had any drills or suggestions on how to get the left hip to move backwards to obtain that quasi sit down position at the start of the downswing. thanks for any help. Is it because I’m not building up torque on the backswing so I have no tension to start it backwards? Is it related to a poor set up? Is it simply a skill that must be learned? Thanks again
Genius. In terms of putting over a fundamental concept this is one of your best videos yet. I understood the theory about protracting/retracting shoulders but the first time it clicked was in seeing the overhead views of the pros. Ta muchly for this. One question/suggestion for a follow up would be to build on this and cover how the two arms need to work as one unit to keep the "real estate" in place. I think the lead arm can kill all the good work of the trail if it squeezes across the chest too soon
Love this. You can get this feel using a foam role vertical on floor aligned with spine, legs at 90 deg, alternating scapular punches. It will also loosen the deltoids and rotator cuffs allowing the shoulders to glide over the joints and ligaments❤
Like usual, great video guys. Was just at the range today after taking about 1.5 years off of playing. Feel like this will definitely help, but my question is about how to reconcile the idea of trail shoulder retraction. If you protract the lead and retract the trail, wouldn't the hands have to move their respective position? How do you reconcile that in the swing?
Hey, you guys are great!! I am a chiropractor and can appreciate the biomechanics. I am a student of the game and getting back playing from shoulder and elbow surgery. I am looking forward to taking it 1 step at a time. As you guys know you must learn motor skills slowly to working more. Maybe you can suggest a routine without paying for the subscription. You guys are very articulate. Thanks again for the education. I would love to meet you guys 1 day. I’m in NYC.
Wow that was a great video. All the content was insightful, but the last part where Mike showed the drill regarding how incorporated the right shoulder “pull” was the best way to highlight what is the correct movement should be. I could tell instantly how I was doing it incorrectly by pulling my elbow back not my shoulder. Thanks again guys, your insights and understanding of the golf swing is superb👍.
Wow hit the range and got those shoulders moving independently. Unbelievable feel. Had so much time in the downswing to find the slot. My 7 iron was carrying 180 plus easily which is good for me. This really stopped me swaying and maintained I stayed a lot more centred. Great lesson. Thank you
Thanks for all of the great instruction you guys provide to all of us! This instruction SEEMS to contradict another GEARS video (one of the first I watched of AMG, that has always stuck with me) that showed how much LESS the Pros turn their shoulders (and rather, drop their right hip deeper) as compared to the AM who made a lot of shoulder turn but didn't drop the right hip back very much. The GEARS compared the angles of shoulder turns with the pros being much less. How does that instruction correlate/reconcile with the instruction in this video for greater shoulder turn? Very curious, and wondering if I am not remembering the other video properly. I'll have to try to find it.
I think you might want to revisit the other video (and make sure it’s one of ours😊) because I can’t think of anything contradictory we show in this video compared to what we’ve shown in the past. Would be happy to take a look if you’re able to recall the title.
When should you focus on that extra turn/extension of the shoulders? Can this be done early in the takeaway? Great work bytheby. Thanks for sharing. Curt
Great question. The left pretty much starts extending from the start with the right retracting towards the end of the takeaway. There will be some variation dependent on length of swing.
Does these tips still work if you're cack-handed playing golf. I find it a little bit harder to keep the arms in the correct place when moving to the back swing it fells like it's more strain on the chest.
Great video guys! I noticed all 3 players start from an open upper body position. Can you comment on this and is this a starting position you recommend. Thanks.
Great catch! It’s very rare to see a good player not have slightly open shoulders at setup. It helps to not get the club inside early in the backswing👍
As always extreme goodness. What I would ask is that you not just give drills but assign a minimum number of reps and number of times going through the drills. Such as : we see results happen with this when students do X number of these every other day, or every day, over this X period of times. Keeping in mind we will be adding drills from other videos. So no one drill can be too much or go on for too long. Also please always differentiate between what applies to driver, irons or both. Also just now things change slightly as you move up the irons and into hybrids/fairway woods. You guys are Awesome.
Good job fellas. I wouldn’t mind seeing a video on the distance differences between hitting up on a golf ball vs down on a golf ball. Using driver. Got in a simulator the other day and saw that I was hitting down on the ball 6 degrees. Soooo, not great. I’m working on it. Thanks.
I focus on my left shoulder get past my chin . Would this be a good thing and at same time keeping width? Also would it help at set up to have closed stance? Thanks for answer in advance

Hope i can fly over one day to experience the great gears that you guys have created ! regards from Malaysia.
Another great video. Seems like a good time to ask this question. I've been working keeping my left shoulder down on the backswing, and it seems one thing that causes problems is when I try to reach back too much to create width. My shoulder comes more forward instead of down and my shoulders get flat on the backswing. However, I'm also trying not to keep my arms pinned to my chest. You showed an example of a guy with his shoulders sloped forwards some, which I thought was a counter to keeping your spin straight at setup. How should I think about my shoulders at setup and as the club goes back?
i remember tiger and butch working on really tucking the right arm in.....you guys are promoting a flying right elbow? I've tried this and it's very hard to find the bottom of the swing and feels weird when releasing....the tucked is nice, the right arm flys out through the shot in a touch of whip release.....that right arm straight method, my arms are locked up through the shot hand the head has a hard time passing the grip.....thoughts? maybe it's just two different types of people?...i mean are you looking for windows?
@@AthleticMotionGolf why don't you bums talk about the handle raising or lowering at impact? should you keep the handle low? when I stand the handle up, it's a push cut.....there needs to be a device that "slaps the handle position" proper lean AND PROPER lift angle.....meh meh? you geeeetttt it?

What would his angles be that many of us could hope to also achieve.
Isn't the degree of right elbow angle bend dictated by the player's length of their arms, the width of their shoulders, and how much left arm adduction they do?
It just seems like people should, at the very least, be able to get this one, extremely important golf swing fundamental correct. Stop breaking that elbow down yall! Only swing back as far as you are able to keep that arm straight, even if it's waist high, and then start the downswing.
@@AthleticMotionGolf I just grabbed my 7 iron and went outside to try it. I can hit it 300 out of bed and I’m tight. I’ll bet you guys could get me to 310-320. The concept of starting to turn your wrists at the top to square it and instead of at the bottom is what I’m working on now.
