You are so right Brian. I had 41 points in the stableford on Saturday - the best round for a long time. I was not hitting the ball that well but my chipping was much better. I have practised chipping for the last few weeks following one of your videos. Thanks Regards David

My goal on chips of 20 yards or less is to be inside 10 feet and that is a 7 out of 10 result. Where my game needs big help is pitches from 25 to 50 yards from the hole where my results are not nearly as good. Again, you have made another superior video for those of us trying to improve our score.

Got new eye glasses today from my recent annual eye exam, worst round in almost a year, my new nickname could have been SHANKOPOTUMUS. Hopefully, I will adjust to the the “new vision”. All putts were pulled and putts from off the green were short and pulled dramatically. I will get out another putter for tomorrow’s round, any other suggestions?
@@2Eaglez That happens so often Phil. Don't stress about it. Don't change anything, there is nothing wrong. You just have to let everything adjust. Hit some balls on the range. Play a few holes by yourself and just allow the eyes to adjust. It could take a few days. Above all don't panic. Brian
I used to play a bunch (too old now). I tracked every shot in every round. I was always interested in one number: distance to pin in regulation. I did not care whether it was from heavy rough or on the green. The distance matters. This number factors in many aspects of golf: hiw well you drive, how accurate your iron game is, penalty strokes, even management and mental game stuff. The shorter that distance, the lower the score. Of course, almost 70% of my practice time was short game and putting.

Complex game. The golf I watch only televises the 'best' shots going close giving a false reality. Is it golf's fake news? .Learning not to belt the thing to get the highest score, rather than more finesse is reverse psychology for average me. Great video Brian.
To a large extent it is Neil. If we say that to play on the PGA Tour they are freaks (in a nice way). During the telecast of the final round it is fair to say that we see the freaks playing at their freakiest (which is why they are being featured in the first place) and we also see the directors cut of that. It's great to go to a tournament live and stay on a green behind a par 3 hole and watch all of the groups come through. You really do see a variety of shots. Not all good. Thats why I love the stats. I spend around 40 hours each year collating them at the end of the season and use those stats with my clients to balance out their expectations like I did with Will in this video. Some valuable strategy for sure. I drive 70% fairways in play can get there abouts in regulation, my bunker shots are poor chip and run barely serviceable but I'm a solid 2 putter with 3 putts 1 maybe 2 a round. Putting off the green pretty reliable. Some coaching on short game is definitely on the cards I think.

I don't have access to that stat Ken. But from shots less than 10 yards from the green the average proximity is 3' 8". From between 10 and 20 yards from the green the average proximity is 7 feet. All from the PGA Tour website. Brian

The mistake I see people make with pitching is using too much loft and too big a golf swing. We worked a lot on landing the ball in the right area about 2 paces on the green. We then played a game where we threw 9 balls around the green in different spots, We marked out a circle with golf tees with our goal in mind (say 12 feet). And we hit all of the balls and putted them out. Trying to get as many 2's as possible and counting how many shots got into the circle. Brian
@@fitzygolfpro thanks. I was using a 7 a lot from around the fringe and green. I’m currently using a chipper, as I like the feel of a more upright lie angle. Took a 60 degree out of the bag to make room for the chipper. Definitely going to concentrate on the advice you give in this video.
Every mid to high h/c golfers weakness, chasing the pars and birdies. When driving it sensible so your on fairway, punch a 7 to the open side of the green then chip or putt to the flag, 1 putt or easy 2 putt bogey is a no brainer strategy. REALITY smash driver as far as possible you're fairways hit stat suffers and if youre lucky your on fairway and hitting pw at the flag and you end up in bunker or thin over the back , some holes you manage to salvage a bogey or youre in double bogey or worse. Course strategy play your strengths plan for bogey and you will pick up the bonus par or lucky birdies .

They are but I have collected all the data for each of the past 10 years and it doesn’t vary that much. I wait until the end of the Tour Championship and then download all the data and put it in an excel spreadsheet. It’s a lot of work. But I just love the data.

4:10 when you say stop using lofted clubs to chip with, what did you recommend to Will instead?
I encouraged him to use a hybrid where possible and then a 7 or if he really needed it a 9 iron. He mostly went with the hybrid.

Well summed up Rob. The biggest enemy of the high handicap golfer in reality is their own ego.

Statistically it’s hitting long and accurate tee shots. The pros that hit the longest, make the most money; but chipping is also really good😉
